PERRY: ‘WINEHOUSE’S DEATH MAKES ME GRATEFUL FOR BRAND’
Pop star KATY PERRY has a new-found appreciation for her husband RUSSELL BRAND’s sobriety following the tragic death of his troubled pal AMY WINEHOUSE.
The Firework hitmaker was among the many celebrities who took to their Twitter.com accounts on Saturday (23Jul11) to express their sorrow over Winehouse’s sudden passing at the age of 27.
But Perry admits the sad news hit her hard because it made her realise that Brand could have faced a similar fate if he hadn’t managed to overcome his long battle with drink and drugs.
During an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Monday (25Jul11), she said, "My heart felt really sad. My husband, who’s been clean and sober for almost nine years, you know, I see him working (on) a (sobriety) programme and working on himself every single day and I see how much work it takes to be clean and sober when you have addiction on your hands.
"So it gave me a real gratefulness for my husband, who got clean when he was 27. And I just feel sad and I hope she finds peace." The cause of Winehouse’s death has yet to be revealed after an initial post mortem examination on Monday (25Jul11) proved inconclusive.
