PETER FALK DEAD AT 83

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:22 pm

COLUMBO star PETER FALK has died at the age of 83.
The beloved actor passed away peacefully at his Los Angeles home on Thursday (23Jun11).
Falk was born in New York in 1927 and enjoyed a career spanning 50 years.
He broke into the acting industry in 1956 when he landed a role in an off-Broadway production of Moliere’s play Don Juan. That same year, he made his Broadway debut in Diary of a Scoundrel.
He later shifted his focus onto TV and film work, but he was warned early on not to expect too much success due to a glass eye he had implanted at the age of three - after doctors found a malignant tumour in his right eye.
However, he defied Hollywood agents and scored his film debut with a small role in Wind Across the Everglades in 1958. Two years later (60), Falk appeared as gangster Abe Reles in Murder, Inc - the same year he married first wife Alyce Mayo, with whom he has adopted daughters Catherine and Jackie. The movie was a hit with critics and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1961.
Murder, Inc. proved to be Falk’s break-out role, and he would go on to reprise the role again in 1960s TV series The Witness.
Meanwhile, his film career continued to rise with a part in Frank Capra’s 1961 comedy Pocketful of Miracles - another Oscar-nominated role - and parts in director pal John Cassavetes’ movies Husbands (1970) and A Woman Under the Influence (1974).
But it was Falk’s turn as Lieutenant Columbo in the hit TV crime series Columbo that he is best known for. The programme aired on U.S. network NBC between 1971 and 1978, and later moved to ABC, where it was shown from 1989 to 2003. The role won Falk four Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Falk suffered from deteriorating health towards the end of his life, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
His personal life hit the headlines in January 2009 when his daughter Catherine, a real life private detective, battled Falk’s second wife, actress Shera Danese, to be named conservator of his estate. Catherine claimed her father also had dementia and could no longer care for himself.
Falk is survived by Danese, whom he married in 1977, and his two children.

BLACK VEIL BRIDES ROCKER TOO INJURED TO TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:19 pm

Rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES have pulled out of the start of America’s Vans Warped Tour to allow frontman ANDY BIERSACK more time to recover from injuries sustained after he fell from a balcony in Hollywood.
The singer lost his grip and fell while he was clambering across a balcony at the Hollywood & Highland shopping mall during a promotional appearance. He fractured three ribs.
A handful of shows were cancelled and now Biersack has revealed he’ll be unable to take the stage for the first week of the upcoming Vans Warped Tour, which begins in Dallas, Texas on Friday (24Jun11).
Recuperating at a Los Angeles hotel, the rocker tells Billboard.com, "It was just me being dumb onstage and trying to put on as good of a show as possible… I sort of misjudged the mark and paid for it dearly.
"I’m going to have to miss the first week of the Warped tour at the very least, and that’s frustrating, but I’m also not going to push myself to get onstage before I’m ready.
"It’s a crappy time for (the injury} to happen."

SCHERZINGER UPSET ABOUT COLE X-FACTOR ‘STUNT’ DRAMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:19 pm

Pop star NICOLE SCHERZINGER has blasted her ex-manager for sparking rumours she was always destined to become a judge on SIMON COWELL’s U.S. X FACTOR talent show - and first choice, CHERYL COLE’s appointment, was all part of a publicity stunt.
Jeff Haddad has claimed Cole, who is a judge and mentor on the British version of the show, was never going to get the job - even though she was Cowell’s first choice.
He insists Scherzinger, who was initially named as co-host, was always the girl who would land the judging spot alongside Cowell and music industry heavyweight Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid.
But the Pussycat Dolls star insists Haddad has got it all wrong, and she isn’t happy that he has stirred up the drama.
During an appearance on U.S. radio show Kidd Kraddick in The Morning, she said, "That’s such gossip, man. I was very hurt by that because it was my ex-manager who said that. It just unfortunately goes to show how much he doesn’t know… He wasn’t involved.
"It was a hard process for me and I’m sure for Cheryl. I started out as a co-host and I loved the job. They offered me the job (of judge) and I was just ecstatic and I was so grateful to be a part of it (show) in that way." And she’s positive bosses at production company Freemantle didn’t waste cash on a publicity stunt: "I don’t think Freemantle and all these people would go through all that money to have to go through something like that."

Group member Charlie Dewar says, "Tax(es) nestling in the band’s bank account should be helping to keep open the hospitals, schools and libraries that are closing all over Ireland." The protesters plan to unravel banners and placards in front of photographers, film crews and nearly 170,000 fans expected at the gig - in order to send the rich rockers a message.

CHEADLE DREAMS OF BOLLYWOOD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

Movie star DON CHEADLE has a dream to take over Bollywood.
The Hotel Rwanda star has always had a fascination for Indian movies - and now he’d like to star in one.
He says, "I would love to sing and dance in a Bollywood movie. I think they’re great, the theatricality of them. I love the presentational aspect of the storytelling as a fable.
"So often in American cinema we’re trying to pull things off and it has to look real and things have to seem believable and the violence has to be really violent and the sex has to look good. If I’m sitting in a theatre I know it’s bulls**t; I know that you’re not really dead. I know you’re not f**king. I don’t mind seeing something that’s fantastical.
"I like the fantasy aspect of that. I’ve done a bunch of different kinds of martial arts for a long time. I’m a fan of the genre when it’s done really well." And he’d also like a role in a martial arts movie: "I would have loved to have been in (2004 Stephen Chow film) Kung Fu Hustle. I thought that was a great movie. I’m not as skilled as those fighters but I would love to be a part of something like that."

BRANDO TRUSTEES SUE FURNITURE FIRM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

MARLON BRANDO’s estate executors are suing a furniture company for using the late movie icon’s name to sell sofas and ottomans.
Lawyers for Brando Enterprises have filed suit against the bosses of Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc., claiming they have infringed and misappropriated the Brando name.
The executors are keen to recover damages caused by the sales and marketing of the unlicensed Brando furniture.
The suit comes a month after Brando Enterprises filed suit against Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, insisting the biking company was also using the Brando name without permission.
The executors’ lawyer Jeffrey I. Abrams says, "Companies taking advantage of protected brands appears to be a growing problem for many iconic celebrity estates. Companies may recognise the potential profits derived by associating products with iconic celebrities, however they need to know they are not entitled to generate revenues from the sale of products bearing unlicensed names, images and trademarks.
"The estates of classic and legendary celebrities, such as Marlon Brando, generally have representation for licensing matters, and manufacturers have the opportunity to negotiate an agreement that will provide the marketing and promotional benefits derived from associating with an iconic figure." A statement from the Brando Trust reads, "We will pursue any infringement of the Marlon Brando name and carry out our mission to serve Marlon’s wishes as they relate to his legacy and his family."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

The Spinning Around hitmaker is currently Down Under with her Aphrodite: Les Folies shows and she took to the stage in her native country on Wednesday (22Jun11).
Minogue spotted a flamboyant man called Ben in the crowd wearing a feathered fancy dress costume and asked him to join her on stage at the Burswood Dome. Minogue covered her mouth in disbelief when the man said, "Today’s nine years. I’m from Broome, he’s from Kalgoorlie and maybe I was wondering if you’d give me the honour… will you marry me, Baby?" Minogue then gushed, "I’m in shock. I’m so happy for you both!" After the man told Minogue he has been meaning to propose for three years, she joked, "So you just thought you’d wait until I rolled back into town? Thank God I made it. It’s an honour and privilege. LOHAN VOWS TO ‘FOLLOW RULES’ AS LAWYER DEFENDS ‘LENIENT’ SENTENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

LINDSAY LOHAN has spoken out to insist she is "following the rules" just hours after her lawyer defended the troubled actress by confirming "she didn’t get a special deal" in court this week (beg20Jun11).
The Mean Girls star is currently serving three months under house arrest for violating her probation from a 2007 DUI case by taking a necklace from a California jewellery store. She was initially handed a jail sentence, but it was changed due to prison overcrowding.
Lohan was ordered back to court this week (beg20Jun11) to face allegations she failed an alcohol test, but she escaped any possible jail time when the judge ruled the test came after her booze ban expired.
Her lawyer Shawn Holley has spoken out to silence rumours Lohan has received special treatment, telling E! News, "People think celebrities get it easier and a break, but the converse is true… Anyone with her background would have gotten house arrest, she didn’t get a special deal.
"I worried perception would harm her… But everyone - the judge, the courts - were professional, so it was fair. It was difficult in my mind. I believed public pressure would make the powers that be behave differently but she got what everyone would have (got)." Lohan also spoke out to insist she is taking the terms of her punishment seriously, after the judge overseeing her case ordered her to stop throwing parties while under house arrest.
She tells TMZ.com, "I am responsible, and I’m following the rules and obeying my judge and the Los Angeles judicial system… I’d like to do what I must to get my film career back and the respect of directors, actors, writers, studio heads, fans and so on."
