NICOLE KIDMAN is in talks to help movie bosses deliver THE PAPERBOY after SOFIA VERGARA was forced to drop out of the project.
Director Lee Daniels’ movie, about a reporter who investigates a murder, has been hit with a series of problems - Tobey Maguire quit the project last week (ends26Jun11), and Vergara has now also walked away due to scheduling conflicts.
Kidman is now in talks to step in to Vergara’s part as a woman who pens letters to men on death row, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron will also appear in the film.

Soul supergroup the TEMPTATIONS are in talks to turn their Motown success story into a new Broadway musical.
The group’s soul-surviving original member Otis Williams tells Billboard.com the group is working with Broadway producer Ira Pittleman on a stage spectacular based on the band’s history.
He says, "I never would have imagined the possibilities of the Tempts life story going to Broadway, but it’s wonderful." Williams insists work on the show will start once a new musical about Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr.’s life lands on the Broadway stage next spring (12).

COUNTING CROWS singer ADAM DURITZ is battling severe withdrawal symptoms after choosing to ween himself off mood-stabilising drugs.
The Mr. Jones singer started taking Lithium pills to better balance his life after he was diagnosed with a form of dissociative disorder, but now the star is committed to getting off the drugs with his doctor’s help, despite his body’s negative reaction.
Writing on his band’s Facebook.com page, he states: "Docs Friday instructions: cut Lithium dose in half - F**k me - not so good now. Gotta keep pushing/get off this s**t. Going faster than I should but it still takes too long. All my friends say how clear & present I am. ‘Clear & present’. Horror. Not mutually exclusive…
"Just to clarify: I will not be leading any kind of ’sober life’ after this. These are not drug addiction problems. I was f**king crazy. I needed meds. I took meds. Now I’m less crazy. I need less meds. I’m stopping meds. That’s it.
"These meds just happen to have some freaking vicious withdrawal symptoms when you stop so u (you) can’t do it all at once (sic)."

JOHN LENNON was a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism, at the time of his death - according to the tragic BEATLES star’s last personal assistant.
Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon’s death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.
In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn’t the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.
He says, "John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.
"He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event… Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that… He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.
"I also saw John embark in some really brutal arguments with my uncle, who’s an old-time communist… He enjoyed really provoking my uncle… Maybe he was being provocative… but it was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism.
"He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he’d been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy’s naivete."

Rocker TOM PETTY has demanded Minnesota congresswoman MICHELE BACHMANN stop using his hit AMERICAN GIRL at campaign rallies - because he doesn’t agree with her politics.
Republican Bachmann announced her official bid to run against President Barack Obama on Monday (27Jun11), and upset Heartbreakers leader Petty by using his rousing anthem.
The rocker’s management team has sent Bachmann’s campaign officials a cease and desist letter, asking them to stop using the song as her theme tune.
It’s not the first time a politician upset Petty by using one of his songs on the campaign trail - RollingStone.com reveals the rocker had to stop George W. Bush using his solo hit I Won’t Back Down at rallies back in 2000.

The iconic star’s Old Saybook, Connecticut home has six bedrooms, a private dock and a beach, according to TooFab.com.
The property has been listed at $18 million (GBP11.25 million).
The Bringing Up Baby star lived at the residence until her death in 2003.

Actor SHIA LABEOUF dressed up as a clown when he was a toddler to make money for his hard-pressed family.
The Transformers star admits growing up he was so poor he dressed up and danced around selling snow cones when he was just three years old to help make ends meet.
He says, "My dad used to get big industrial freezers (and) I used to make these big bricks of ice, shave them, put syrup on it, dance around and juggle and smile."

SHIA LABEOUF has hinted he and his fired former TRANSFORMERS love interest MEGAN FOX became more than just co-stars on the set of the movie franchise.
The actor refuses to go into great detail about the much-rumoured romance and has no idea if Fox was dating Brian Austin Green, who is now her husband, at the time - but he has revealed that something was going on behind the scenes on the first two action blockbusters.
LaBeouf tells the new issue of Details magazine, "You’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them.
"I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen… It was what it was." Green and Fox briefly split during the making of the Transformers movies but they reconciled and wed last year (Jun10) in Hawaii.
The couple renewed their vows on their one-year anniversary recently.
Fox has since been replaced by model/actress Rosie Huntington-Whitely as LaBeouf’s love interest in the latest Transformers film, Dark of The Moon.
In the Details interview, LaBeouf also opens up about romances with actresses Carey Mulligan and Isabel Lucas, who also starred alongside the actor in the Transformers sequel.
Of his time with Lucas, the star says, "It was sort of disastrous… Neither one of us, I think, were in love. Just sort of experimenting or whatever." But it’s clear British actress Mulligan, who he romanced through 2010, meant an awful lot to him." He explains, "I still love her… I think she’s a f**king awesome person and an incredible actress. We’re still pals. I wouldn’t take any of it back, and I don’t think she would either. It just ran its course."

Rocker GENE SIMMONS has confessed his longtime relationship with model SHANNON TWEED is in tatters as he attempts to mend years of infidelity The couple fell out during the filming of the latest season of reality show Gene Simmons Family Jewels after the KISS rocker poked fun at his infamous womanising ways, and joint TV interviews to promote the series have been frosty at best, with Tweed walking out on one when her boyfriend joked about his busy penis.
The rocker has agreed to seek counselling help to save the relationship and now he admits he has a lot of work to do.
He tells Parade magazine, "When you have a cut on your hand, it doesn’t heal overnight. It takes time. And, if you don’t take care of it, it gets inflamed. We’re working on it.
"It’s not easy on the kids, Shannon, or myself." Simmons and Tweed share two grown-up kids.

Rising British band BROTHER have been forced to change their name after the threat of legal action from an Australian group with the same moniker.
The rockers have gained a cult following in the U.K. and have been tipped as the next big thing overseas, but they’ve been forced to re-brand themselves Viva Brother.
Representatives for long-running Aussie trio Brother, who are based in the U.S., reportedly threatened legal action if the British group refused to change its name.
In a statement, singer Lee Newell says, "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away three men decided one day that it would be a good idea to start a band called Brother. Many, many years later four frighteningly handsome devils in (Britain)… decided to do the same thing.
"But something called ‘litigation’ got in the way. However with this out of the way we do finally feel free. Brother is dead. Long Live VIVA BROTHER!"

EMINEM’s TV commercial dedicated to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan has been honoured at the 2011 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
The rapper teamed up with bosses at car firm Chrysler to film the advertisement, which depicts him driving through the beleaguered motor city behind the wheel of a new Chrysler 200.
The tribute, set to Eminem’s 8 Mile theme Lose Yourself, landed a haul of five awards at the annual advertising festival in France, receiving honours for Best Direction, Best Script, Best Use of Music, Best Automotive Commercial and Best Editing.
Eminem wasn’t the only hip-hop star feted at the event - the campaign for Jay-Z’s memoir Decoded, run in association with Microsoft search engine Bing, took home the Integrated Grand Prix and Titanium Lion on Saturday (25Jun11).

Singer PINK had a scary delivery experience when she gave birth to her daughter earlier this month (Jun11) - the singer had to have a C-section because the baby’s head was in the wrong direction.
The So What hitmaker welcomed beautiful baby Willow Sage on 2 June (11), but Pink admits everything didn’t go as smoothly as she and husband Carey Hart had hoped.
She tells People magazine, "I was really looking forward to the whole rite of passage - giving birth perfectly present, unmedicated, in the way nature intended… Turns out this little girl had other plans. She is my daughter after all." Pink ultimately had to shelve her plans for an all-natural home birth with midwives and instead head to the hospital for an emergency operation.
She adds, "Even though (it) wasn’t what we intended, it all turned out perfectly in the end because she is healthy and happy and so am I."

Actress LISA KUDROW feared she had blown her big chance at TV success when she was fired as FRAZIER’s sidekick ROZ.
The Friends star only spent three days on set before the role was recast, and Peri Gilpin took over, and she admits it was the lowest point in her career.
She tells More magazine, "I knew it wasn’t working, and they fixed it." And Kudrow wasn’t the only one worried about her career choice - her mother feared she had made a big mistake.
She adds, "I’ve since found out from other family members that she was very worried. She was happy with the idea that I could have a career, but this one didn’t look like it was working out. And there was no boyfriend.

Embattled actor MEL GIBSON has settled his divorce case with his estranged wife, according to a U.S. report.
The Lethal Weapon star’s wife Robyn ended the couple’s 28-year marriage when she filed for divorce in April 2009, citing "irreconcilable differences", but, although both Mel and his ex have since moved on romantically, their separation was not officially legal - until now.
TMZ.com reports Robyn’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, appeared before a U.S. judge on Tuesday (28Jun11) and declared the former couple has finally reached an agreement regarding the terms of the divorce and their property settlement.
Mel and Robyn’s lawyers are set to draft the final documents and enter the judgment in August (11).
