FINANCE PROBLEMS HOLDING UP CHEADLE’S MILES DAVIS FILM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:43 am

DON CHEADLE’s dreams of playing MILES DAVIS on the big screen have been stalled by financial problems.
The Hotel Rwanda star admits financiers have been put off the ongoing project because it isn’t "your standard middle of the road studio fare".
He tells WENN, "It’s still grinding trying to get the finance… It’s not a biopic, it’s not deep, it’s not serious fare, it’s not a cradle-to-the-grave overview of his entire life. The movie takes place over a day and a half of his life. It’s a very intense day and a half of his life but a lot of people haven’t engaged because of what they perceive it’s going to be.
"They say, ‘We don’t want to do a movie like that,’ and I say, ‘Have you read it?’ ‘No’. ‘Read it and then say you don’t want to do a movie like that!’ "It’s having to push through and once they read it they go, ‘Oh this is great.’ Everyone is dying to be the second person to invest in this film."

LOHAN BACK IN COURT, FIGHTING TO STAY OUT OF JAIL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:22 pm

LINDSAY LOHAN is back in court trying to stay out of jail after allegedly failing an alcohol test last week (ends17Jun11).
The nervous actress, who has been under house arrest for the past month after violating her probation from a 2007 drink-driving case, arrived to court on time on Thursday morning (23Jun11), wearing a blue and white striped shirt and black trousers.
Officials at the Los Angeles County Probation Department have reportedly asked the judge in the case to cancel Lohan’s house arrest, which was set to end next week (29Jun11) - and sentence her to jail.
According to reports, Lohan took two sobriety tests last week and failed one, which was conducted after the Mean Girls star threw a barbecue at her home in Venice, California.
Lohan began a 35-day house arrest term last month (May11) after she was accused of stealing a necklace from a jewellery store in Venice. She was originally sentenced to serve 120 days behind bars after pleading no contest to a misdemeanour charge, but her punishment was reduced to 35 days of home confinement due to jail overcrowding.
Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers insists the actress is not taking her sentence seriously and should not be having parties on her rooftop while under house arrest.
If the Probation Department officials get their way, Lohan could find herself behind bars on her 25th birthday on 2 July (11).

SMITH ESTATE LOSES LATEST ROUND IN MARCHALL FAMILY CASH BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:19 pm

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s estate has been dealt a bitter blow in its bid to land a large slice late oil tycoon J. HOWARD MARSHALL’s fortune - a Supreme Court Chief Justice in Washington, D.C, has overturned a decision to give the tragic model’s family $475 million (GBP297 million).
The billionaire Texas oil tycoon was briefly married to Smith when he died in 1995 and she fought his son and other family members for a large cut of his estate up until her death in 2007.
A California bankruptcy court judge awarded the late Playmate $475 million from Marshall’s estate, but now Chief Justice John Roberts has decided that ruling was a mistake.
In his ruling on Thursday (23Jun11), he wrote, "We conclude that, although the Bankruptcy Court had the statutory authority to enter judgment on the counterclaim, it lacked the constitutional authority to do so." Marshall left his estate to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, and nothing to Smith. Upon her husband’s death, she filed a petition for bankruptcy in California and was initially awarded $425 million (GBP256.6 million) in total damages.
Pierce Marshall challenged the ruling.
The battle over the estate has continued even though Pierce Marshall died in 2006 and Smith a year later.
Smith’s lawyer Kent Richard tells ABC News that today’s ruling means his client’s estate no longer has the right to the millions awarded by the bankruptcy court, but he reveals there are continuing separate proceedings ongoing in other courts.
He says, "There are ongoing appeals. Because of the complexity of the case there are other aspects to the case in other courts that will continue to be finalised."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:16 pm

Embattled reggae star BUJU BANTON has been sentenced to serve 10 years behind bars for allegedly planning a cocaine deal in 2009.
The Jamaican hitmaker was taken into custody two years ago after he was busted with two other men.
The case originally went before a judge last year (10) but ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
A second trial got underway in a Florida court in February (11) and Banton was convicted on three counts - including conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, which carries a potential 15-year sentence.
Banton appealed for a shorter term earlier this month (Jun11) and the judge in the case received letters from several of Banton’s 15 children, Jamaican officials and celebrities including actor Danny Glover, asking him for leniency.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

Olympic rowing stars TYLER and CAMERON WINKLEVOSS have dropped their court appeal of a settlement with Facebook.com founder MARK ZUCKERBERG.
The partnership which led to the legal wrangle was documented in acclaimed 2010 film The Social Network.
The Winklevoss twins, who were portrayed by Armie Hammer in the film, claimed they were shortchanged in a $65 million (GBP40.6 million) settlement with Zuckerberg in 2008 because Facebook.com had misrepresented the value of company stock.
In April (11), a federal appeals judge rejected the argument.
The Winklevosses asked Zuckerberg to help them write the coding for a social networking site they were developing at Harvard University in 2003. A year later Zuckerberg launched thefacebook.com, which his business partners alleged was created using their ideas.

BAR WHERE DUNN DRANK WON’T BE CHARGED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

The owners of a bar where tragic RYAN DUNN spent his final hours will not be charged for serving the JACKASS star and then allowing him to drive off intoxicated.
Dunn and a pal were drinking at a West Chester, Pennsylvania bar called Barnaby’s of America shortly before the stuntman lost control of his Porsche in the early hours of Monday morning (20Jun11). Both men died in the accident.
Police reports suggest Dunn was too drunk to drive when he climbed behind the wheel of his sportscar.
However the general manager of the bar, Frank Herron, will not be charged for giving the star eight drinks over the course of four hours because, as far as employees could tell, Dunn did not appear to be intoxicated.
Herron tells the Associated Press, "He spoke clearly. He walked clearly. He came in hop, skip, jumping. He left hop, skip, jumping. If these (toxicology) results are true, I’m shocked at it. We were very confident that he had not had that much." The toxicology reports which will determine just how drunk Dunn was at the time of his death will be released next month (Jul11).

DUHAMEL PHONES IN TO LOCAL NEWS STATION TO OFFER SUPPORT AMID MINOT FLOODS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

Movie star JOSH DUHAMEL called in to a local TV news station in North Dakota on Thursday morning (23Jun11) from Moscow, Russia to share his memories of growing up in flooded Minot.
The actor has been watching the devastation unfold on his computer as he prepares for Thursday’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon premiere - and felt compelled to call the KX News broadcast to offer his support to those left homeless - like his own sister.
He told newsman Shaun Sipma, who has lost his property to the floods, "I have been glued to my computer watching you guys… it’s difficult to see some of the stuff that’s happening there.
"I’m sorry to hear that you… are going to lose your house. It’s heartbreaking… It’s horrible to see… You see these things happening in other places around the country and around the world.
"Minot is still home to me. I went to elementary, junior high, high school and college in Minot and lived there until I was 22 years old… I’m seeing these places that are in the floods and it’s just unbelievable." Clearly emotional, Duhamel confessed he felt he should be in Minot with his family.
He said, "I feel a little bit silly sitting here in Moscow promoting a movie when I feel I wanna be home… but If there’s anybody who’s equipped to deal with something like this it’s the people of Minot." Thousands of locals have been evacuated as rising water from surrounding rivers threatens to wash away the town.
