POWDERFINGER REUNITE FOR BOOK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

Retired rockers POWDERFINGER are set to reunite to put together a book detailing the band’s 20-year career.
The Australian group, which formed in 1989, played its last ever show in November (10) and stepped away from the music scene, but they will now tell all about their time in the spotlight in the band’s first ever book, which will chart their rise to fame.
The tome, titled Footprints, will be written with the help of journalist Dino Scatena, who tells the Sydney Morning Herald, "They are genuinely five of the sweetest, humblest and funniest guys you’ll meet in rock ‘n’ roll. That won’t come as a shock to anyone who knows anything about Powderfinger. What will surprise is the story these very private men finally share here about their extraordinary 20 years together." The book is due for release in November (11).

ARCTIC MONKEYS HIRE TENT FOR U.K. SHOWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

British rockers ARCTIC MONKEYS have hired a huge tent to shelter fans at their homecoming gigs this weekend (10-12Jun11) in case the shows are marred by torrential rain in the gloomy northern city.
The Fluorescent Adolescent hitmakers hail from Sheffield, England and will play to crowds of 10,000 at an outdoor venue on Friday (10Jun11) and Saturday (11Jun11) to mark the release of their new album, Suck It and See.
They have decided to hire a huge tent to cover the audience during the shows, as the city frequently suffers downpours even during summer months.
Frontman Alex Turner tells NME magazine, "It were (sic) the tent that sealed it. Because it usually rains. You need rain at a gig like you need mustard on your index finger. The show must go on, and all that."

UNDERWOOD FRUSTRATED BY TARDY PAISLEY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

Punctual CARRIE UNDERWOOD became frustrated while working with fellow country star BRAD PAISLEY because the singer is always late.
The stars have teamed up to record a track called Remind Me for Paisley’s new album, This Is Country Music, but Underwood admits the collaboration nearly didn’t happen because of their busy schedules.
Paisley’s record was delayed, and it meant they were able to find time to record together - but Underwood, who describes herself as always punctual, reveals she was baffled by his poor timekeeping.
Speaking at the Billboard Country Music Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, she said, "I want to be on time. I want to be prepared… Let me tell you about Brad Paisley. Brad is not on time. Ever… I always say, (Paisley song) Waitin’ on a Woman? Yeah, right! It’s Waitin’ on Brad…. This (collaboration) was the most unorganised (sic) thing I’ve ever been a part of. But I was so excited by the song when the words came together." But Underwood is still a big fan of Paisley, despite his tardiness, adding, "He’s just a nice guy. You cannot not like Brad Paisley."

LYKKE LI APOLOGISES FOR CANCELLATIONS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

Swedish pop star LYKKE LI has apologised to fans for cancelling a pair of California concerts after falling ill.
The Little Bit hitmaker was forced to call off a performance in Santa Barbara on Friday (03Jun11) and another in San Diego on Sunday (05Jun11) after she was struck down with a high fever.
The singer has since taken to her official blog to apologise for letting down her devotees.
Li writes, "Note from sickbed! My deepest sincerest apologies again… Doctor told me I had multiple infections going, sinus as well as my throat as well as my respiratory systems as well as an ear infection and God knows what! "I am now in bed with instructions to rest my vocal chords (sic) and my soul with nothing else to say but how awfully sorry I am but I simply can’t sing right now, can hardly breathe, I am sick, I am human. Please forgive me." The 25 year old admits she may have overworked herself by booking more shows so soon after hurting her back and scrapping her U.K. tour in April (11).
She adds, "I might have gone at it a bit too soon but you can’t control everything in life. I am really truly sorry for not being able to perform for you, you know there is nothing I would love more then belting it out in open air California! I will make it up to you in some form."

KAISER CHIEFS FEARED RADIOHEAD HAD SAME IDEA FOR ALBUM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

KAISER CHIEFS feared they would have to scrap their groundbreaking plans for the release of their new album because their fellow British rockers RADIOHEAD had beaten them to the idea.
The I Predict a Riot hitmakers announced last week (beg30May11) fans will be able to choose their own tracklisting and artwork for their latest record The Future is Medieval.
The band hopes the innovative technique will discourage fans from downloading the album for free, and admit they want the release to "revitalise and subvert" the troubled music industry.
But the rockers were faced with the possibility that Radiohead had hit upon the same idea when they announced the online release of their eighth album, The King of Limbs, in February (11).
Drummer Nick Hodgson tells NME magazine, "Three months ago, when Radiohead did the Lotus Flower video on the Monday and announced they were putting out The King of Limbs on the Friday, we got a bit nervous. We were like, ‘Have they just done what we’re going to do?’ "Then there were all those rumours, that they were going to put out another disc straight afterwards. But they didn’t. It’s been a bit stressful like that, because we’ve been keeping this secret for so long. There have been times when you get a bit drunk and feel like blurting it out." Part of the release scheme even allows buyers to earn some money by recommending their version of the album to pals - and the Kaiser Chiefs are urging celebrity fans to donate their cash to charity.
Hodgson adds, "There is a danger that a lot of that money will go to celebrities. But we’ve nominated a registered charity they can give it to: The Alzheimer’s Society."

EMINEM TAKES AIM AT ‘EVIL’ BIEBER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

JUSTIN BIEBER has become the latest star to suffer the wrath of EMINEM after the rapper described him as "evil" in his new song.
The 8 Mile star is known for taking aim at celebrities in his lyrics, famously poking fun at Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears in the past, while his new song A Kiss mocks Lady Gaga and brands her a "male lady".
It has now emerged Bieber is also a target in the track, with Eminem branding the teenage pop singer "evil" and a "demon" in the song.
Eminem raps, "Him (God) don’t give a damn about Bieber, do Him?/What a demon, a behemoth, evil just seems to be seeping through him." But the hip-hop star’s celebrity comments are not all negative - the lyrics reveal he is a big fan of pop star Katy Perry: "Aw hell Shady, he’ll tell it like it is/So Katy Perry he’s on her tail/He’s tailgating." The song is part of Eminem’s Bad Meets Evil side-project, a collaboration with rapper Royce Da 5′9.

MRAZ CALLS OFF ENGAGEMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:25 pm

Singer/songwriter JASON MRAZ has split from his fiancee TRISTAN PRETTYMAN.
The I’m Yours star proposed to fellow singer Prettyman in December (10), but subsequently insisted they would not be walking down the aisle until gay marriage is legalised in the U.S.
However, Mraz has now confirmed the engagement is off and he has blamed his heavy workload for the split, telling The Daily Beast, "My greatest mistake right now is, I’ve been clinging to my art. In that, I have victory for my art and a great loss for my heart. At the moment, my beautiful fiancee is no longer my beautiful fiancee.
"Two halves don’t make a whole. Two wholes make a whole. In my relationship, I was giving myself away to make the relationship better, but in actuality, wasn’t doing better by doing that. I became less of a man." But Mraz is adamant the break up was amicable and they are even still attending yoga classes together. He adds, "We are still super friends, we go to yoga together, we surf together. We acknowledge the journey that each of us is on. We certainly want each of us to feel whole and complete. And it’s when you’re whole and complete that that attraction exists and it really thrives."

BARDOT TAKES ANIMAL CAMPAIGN DOWN UNDER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:25 pm

Outspoken animal rights activist BRIGITTE BARDOT is urging Australia’s prime minister to end the export of live cows to Indonesia forever following publication of shocking images of cruelty in Asian slaughterhouses.
The veteran actress has taken her longrunning battle to end animal suffering Down Under by writing to the country’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard, demanding she implement a permanent ban on animal exports.
Bardot’s public plea comes after an Australian TV station published disturbing footage of cows being abused in Indonesian abattoirs.
The images caused outrage and the Australian government this week (beg06Jun11) suspended the cattle trade to Indonesia for up to six months. Bardot is now urging Gillard to make the suspension permanent.
She writes, "(The cows are) condemned to the worst mistreatment in Indonesian slaughterhouses… Please, Mister (sic) Prime Minister… listen to the massive protest of your own citizens and of thousand(s) of animal lovers in the world who are, like me, expecting Australia to finally end live export?"

British voice artist ROY SKELTON has died at the age of 79.
Skelton passed away on Wednesday (08Jun11) after suffering a stroke, his daughter Samantha has confirmed.
He was best known for providing the voices of puppets Zippy and George in classic children’s U.K. TV series Rainbow from 1973 to 1992.

Rainbow star Geoffrey Hayes has paid tribute to Shelton, telling the BBC, "He really brought Zippy and George to life through his voice. (He was) fabulous at improvising if something went wrong.
"The most wonderful thing was if Zippy and George were having an argument between themselves, it sounded like he’d double-tracked it as they seemed to be talking over each other. It was a wonderful technique and I don’t know how he did it.
"Although he was known for Zippy and George he was actually a fabulous actor with a great singing voice and a wonderful raconteur - he used to tell us some wonderful stories."
