RIHANNA has hit back at critics protesting her hard-hitting video for MAN DOWN, in which the singer guns down a rapist, insisting she is simply showing fans what can happen in the "real world".
The Umbrella singer, who was brutally beaten in 2009 by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, shoots a man at a railway station in the promo. A series of flashback images then show her grappling with the male outside a nightclub as he tries to attack her.
The clip premiered on U.S. TV earlier this week (31May11) and Rihanna immediately came under attack from activists at the Parents Television Council for depicting the graphic murder. They accused her of suggesting a "cold, calculated execution of murder" is an acceptable form of justice.
But Rihanna has blasted the negative feedback, insisting it’s not her job to show kids what’s right and wrong - she’s just using her art to express her own feelings on the subject matter.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com blog, she writes, "I’m a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What’s up with everybody wantin (sic) me to be a parent? I’m just a girl, I can only be your/our voice! "Cuz (sic) we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why!Cuz (sic) we turn the other cheek! U (sic) can’t hide your kids from society,or they’ll never learn how to adapt!This is the REAL WORLD! "The music industry isn’t exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its (sic) your job to make sure they dont (sic) turn out like US." And Rihanna has called on her loyal fans not to take out their anger on PTC activists.
She adds, "Guys please stop making threats #NotCool!!! We love it, they don’t…that is all, and the world keeps turning!"

JESSICA ALBA will be giving Yale University’s Class of 2001 reunion a starry touch this weekend (04Jun11) after revealing she’ll be there to support husband CASH WARREN.
Warren was a 2001 graduate at Yale and he’ll be heading back to school for the 10-year get together - and he’ll have a celebrity guest on his arm.
In a post on her Facebook.com page, the pregnant actress writes, "On way to NYC and Connecticut with the family. Love spending time together although Cash is bothering me already… ha! Yale reunion this weekend. Excited to live vicariously through all those Ivy Leaguers with fancy degrees."

Los Angeles probation officials were called to LINDSAY LOHAN’s Venice home earlier this week (31May11) when the actress’ electronic monitoring system alerted them to the fact she may have left the confines of the property.
The Mean Girls star is currently serving a house arrest sentence after her conviction for shoplifting a necklace and she is not allowed to leave her home.
The authorities dropped by unannounced and found the actress watching TV and reading scripts.
It is unclear why the ankle device went off, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Steve Honig, a spokesman for the actress, says, "They (officials) came as part of standard procedure to make sure the monitoring equipment was working properly." The actress was sentenced to serve 120 days behind bars last month (May11), but jail overcrowding issues and the fact she is a non-violent convict prompted officials to allow her to serve a reduced sentence at home.

Hip-hop mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS is set for another major business honour - he has been named the recipient of the first Difference Maker accolade at the American Business Awards.
The Def Jam Recordings co-founder will be feted at the prizegiving, aka the Stevie Awards, on 20 June (11) at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
The award will be presented to Simmons for his "groundbreaking vision and influence on music, fashion, finance, television and film, as well as the face of modern philanthropy." Stevie Awards president Michael Gallagher says, "Russell Simmons is the personification of the American business spirit. TWIN PEAKS composer ANGELO BADALAMENTI is to be honoured with the 2011 Henry Mancini Award at the upcoming American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Film and Television Music Awards.
Director David Lynch will lead a tribute to Badalamenti and present him with his latest accolade at a Beverly Hills gala on 23 June (11).
The Henry Mancini Award is awarded to composers in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music.
Previous recipients include Quincy Jones, Randy Newman, James Newton Howard, Howard Shore and Hans Zimmer.
Composer Alf Clausen will also be honoured at the event - he’ll receive the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award, which is presented to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones. Past recipients include Mark Snow, Andre Previn, Garth Brooks, Jay-Z, Tom Petty and Stevie Wonder.

LADY GAGA has heaped praise on Amazon.com bosses for allowing fans to purchase a digital copy of her new release BORN THIS WAY for $0.99 (£0.62) - because it gives everyone the chance to hear her music.
The Poker Face hitmaker’s highly-anticipated album hit stores on 23 May (11) and the online retailer offered the digital version to fans for a fraction of its normal price on the day of release.
The deal proved so popular, the huge numbers of customers flocking to the website caused it to crash. Amazon.com executives extended the sale for a second day (24May11) to promote its Cloud Drive download service.
The promotion helped Gaga to smash U.S. digital album sales records by scoring first-week figures of 662,000, boosting her total sales to 1.1 million.
And Gaga insists she had no problem with Amazon selling Born This Way at the bargain price.
Asked whether she thought her album was worth more than $0.99, she tells the Wall Street Journal, "No. I absolutely do not, especially for MP3s and digital music. It’s invisible. It’s in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music." But Gaga admits she wasn’t the one losing out on money: "It also wasn’t really 99 cents, because Amazon paid the difference on all of those purchases as part of their promotional campaign for one of their new services. I think it’s amazing and it was a really nice surprise and I felt honoured that they chose my record to be part of it."

British soul singer ADELE’s soap dreams are about to be realised - she has been offered to chance to appear on her favourite show NEIGHBOURS.
The Rolling in the Deep hitmaker recently revealed she was a big fan and told a reporter she wanted to follow in the footsteps of fellow Brit Lily Allen - and make a cameo.
She says, "I love Neighbours and especially (veteran character) Harold. He plays the tuba, so I’d love to ask him to play on some of the tracks. In return I could do a cameo on Neighbours like Lily Allen did. But I have to overcome my fear of flying all that way first." Word apparently travelled fast - Neighbours director Susan Bower has extended a warm invitation to Adele.
Bower tells DigitalSpy.com, "I can promise Adele she would receive a huge Neighbours welcome from all the cast and crew. We would love her to have some fun with us on Ramsay Street. I’m a huge fan and I know a number of the cast are also."

GLEE star JANE LYNCH has signed on to host the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Already an Emmy winner, she will take charge of the 63rd annual prizegiving at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on 18 September (11).
The thrilled comedienne/actress says, "I am tickled pink… I’m looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit." Lynch plays tough, tracksuit-wearing cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in Glee.
Emmys producer Mark Burnett insists Lynch was his first choice to host the awards: "Jane was my first - and only - choice as the host for this year’s Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said yes. She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host." It will mark the first time the show has had a solo female host since Ellen DeGeneres took charge of the Emmys in 2005.
Lynch landed the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series honour at the Emmys for her role in Glee.

Bosses of a New York company have launched a campaign to buy the iconic white dress MARILYN MONROE wore in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH when it comes up for auction this month (18Jun11) - because they believe the outfit belongs in the Big Apple.
Monroe made movie history in the dress and sent the temperatures of film fans soaring when she stood on top of a New York subway grate in the movie and delighted in watching it billow up.
And now inQuicity executives want to buy the dress from actress Debbie Reynolds when it becomes available at an upcoming Profiles in History sale in Los Angeles, where it’s estimated to fetch over $1 million (£625,000).
The technology company bosses have set up a website, www.savethedress.org, to attract donors, who will be credited in any exhibition of the dress.
inQuicity co-founder Darlene Newman says, "The dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch is… a prolific piece of New York City’s vivid history and culture, and deserves to find a permanent home here." The dress will be part of a treasure trove of costumes being offered up by Reynolds from her fabled collection.

KELSEY GRAMMER’s ex-wife CAMILLE is going head-to-head with the actor over their two children - she has filed for sole custody, weeks after the star demanded the same.
The Frasier actor ended his marriage to reality TV star Camille last summer (10) and has since wed Kayte Walsh.
The ex-couple was expected to seek joint custody of son Jude, six, and daughter Mason, nine, but Grammer sparked a new war of words in May (11) when he filed court papers requesting he be recognised as their primary guardian.
Camille has now challenged Grammer’s claim, filing her own legal papers in Los Angeles Superior Court and accusing the actor of trying to "create a false impression to the media and to wrongfully disparage" her.

Troubled soul star AMY WINEHOUSE has left a London rehab centre and will continue to battle her sobriety issues as an outpatient.
The Rehab hitmaker, who has long struggled with drink and drug abuse, checked into The Priory last week (ends27May11) after reportedly suffering a relapse.
However, her representative Chris Goodman reveals she is no longer staying at the facility full-time.
In a statement released on Thursday (02Jun11), Goodman says, "Amy Winehouse has completed her assessment at the Priory Clinic in London and will continue as an outpatient." And the spokesman insists 27-year-old Winehouse is now looking forward to getting back on the road as she prepares to tour Europe this summer (11), admitting she’s "raring to go".
The singer will perform in Belgrade, Serbia on 18 June (11).

Rapper SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS has hired an etiquette coach to teach his entire staff proper manners.
The music mogul recently enlisted the help of expert Dawn Bryan to give lessons to all Bad Boy Records employees based in the Manhattan office, according to the New York Post.
Bryan was specifically called in to give courses on how to conduct business practices appropriately overseas. She reportedly taught staff members how to hold chopsticks, present a business card, eat caviar and select gifts for the host.
A representative for the star confirmed Combs’ new mission and insisted the new training "is a protocol for new hires".

Actress JENNIFER GREY is set to star in a TV movie about the young burglars who raided the Hollywood homes of PARIS HILTON, LINDSAY LOHAN and ORLANDO BLOOM.
Five people, including Nick Prugo - the man billed as the gang’s ringleader, were arrested and charged on felony first degree residential burglary counts last year (10).
The group, known as the Hollywood Bling Ring, was believed to be responsible for a string of celebrity break-ins in 2008 and 2009, reportedly stealing designer clothing, jewellery and cash from victims including actress Rachel Bilson and reality TV star Audrina Patridge.
Network bosses at U.S. cable channel Lifetime are now working on turning the alleged crime spree into a film entitled Bling Ring, although the suspects’ names will be changed for legal reasons.
Dirty Dancing star Grey will play the mother of Prugo’s small screen character, according to TMZ.com. Bling Ring is expected to premiere this summer (11).

Rapper EMINEM has filed a lawsuit against German car maker Audi for allegedly featuring one of his songs in a European commercial without his permission.
The star previously authorised the use of his hit Lose Yourself to Chrysler in February (11) for an ad to promote their latest model release.
But now he has learned Audi bosses are using the same tune in a commercial which was unveiled at a Berlin press event last week (begs23May11) - without his consent. Eminem has issued a cease and desist order against the company.
It is not yet known which advertising agency is responsible for creating the clip, which is now available on video sharing website YouTube.com.
Bosses at Chrysler, based in the rapper’s home town of Detroit, Michigan, have credited Eminem with giving them a financial boost - sales increased by 154 per cent after the star offered up his track for the commercial, in which he stars.

An SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) slammed into the guitarist’s silver Toyota on Tuesday (31May11) - and the rocker feels lucky to be alive.
The star has taken to his Twitter.com account to post a photo of his mashed up vehicle and alert fans to his scary experience, paying tribute to his car’s safety features for helping him escape the crash unscathed.

Pop star PINK has sent fans into a frenzy after posting a cryptic message on Twitter.com hinting she’s given birth to her first child.
The So What hitmaker is expected to give birth to her and husband Carey Hart’s first child imminently - and gossip bloggers are speculating Pink became a mum on Wednesday (01Jun11) after the singer appeared to suggest the baby had been born.
She wrote, "New Moon in Gemini today a good time to start something new…. Also called the Honey Moon." Babies born between 21 May and 21 June fall under the Zodiac sign of the Gemini.
