STARR SHOCKED BY FURY OVER LIVERPOOL ‘JOKE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

RINGO STARR was stunned by the reaction of fans in his hometown when he insisted he missed "nothing" about the English city of Liverpool - because the remark was meant as a joke.
The former Beatles drummer sparked fury among residents in the area where he grew up when he made the comment to British TV presenter Jonathan Ross during an interview in 2008.
Several angry viewers complained to the BBC over the incident, and a Beatles memorial in the city was vandalised, but Starr is adamant the remark was made in jest.
The rocker, who has lived in Los Angeles and Surrey, south England for decades, tells British magazine Live, "I played the Echo Arena (in Liverpool) and everything was great. Then I did the Jonathan Ross show and he said, ‘Is there anything you miss about Liverpool?’. I said, ‘No’. I was being flippant. It was funny. I thought the whole of Liverpool would laugh."

SUGGS WRITES STAND-UP SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

MADNESS frontman SUGGS is set to test his comedy skills by heading out on tour as a stand-up.
The British singer - real name Graham McPherson - was inspired to write a one-man show after trying to track down his father, who walked out on the family when Suggs was aged three.
He takes the production, titled Live Suggs! The Rambunctious Recollections of the Madness Frontman, out on the road in the U.K. later this month (May11), and he has promised fans he will include renditions of Madness hits and humorous anecdotes to lighten the dark subject matter.
The Baggy Trousers hitmaker tells Britain’s Culture magazine, "Someone had been talking to me about doing a one-man show for six months or so, and… I couldn’t really feel the point of it, you know? Just standing up and telling a load of anecdotes.
"But maybe this journey I was going to go on, finding out about my dad, would be a useful way to be able to tell my life story - for me, as well as for an audience, I felt it had a purpose."

SCOTT PLAY TO OPEN IN AUSTRALIA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

The life of late AC/DC frontman BON SCOTT is to be immortalised on the stage in a new Australian play.
The 33 year old died of acute alcohol poisoning in 1980 after a night of heavy drinking in London, and the band later continued with his replacement Brian Johnson.
Scott’s tragic story is now the focus of a new stage production titled Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be - The Story Of Bon Scott, which documents his early years and rise to fame.
Australian singer/songwriter Nick Barker will take on the title role and the longtime AC/DC fan admits the job is a dream come true, telling Undercover.fm, "The impact that AC/DC had on me as a teenager was huge. Even growing up as a musician I spent a lot of my time playing in pubs and AC/DC was the benchmark. Bon Scott is an Australian icon as much as (outlaw) Ned Kelly. We’re doing his show with the humility and truth that it deserves." The play will open at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne on 12 July (11).

He tells The Sunday Times Magazine, "One of the great things about anonymity is that you can enjoy road rage, but you can’t when people know who you are. In one altercation, the driver looked at me and said, ‘Oh my God, it’s McNulty’."

HENDRICKS TELLS OF BULLYING HELL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:12 pm

MAD MEN star CHRISTINA HENDRICKS has opened up about her hellish experiences at the hands of childhood bullies.
The actress admits she was "a bit of a goth" in her younger years, and her wacky dress sense and love of acting alienated her from her classmates.
Hendricks is adamant the atmosphere at her "mean" school was so tribal it reminded her of William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies.
She tells Britain’s You magazine, "I went to a very mean school and was bullied like crazy. I was a bit of a goth with purple hair and I was also part of the drama group, which was filled with actors and writers and wasn’t really accepted by the rest of the school.
"There was a long corridor with lockers on either side and kids would sit on top of them and spit on you. It was like something out of Lord of the Flies, but if I learned anything it was to remain true to myself and not to conform for the sake of it."

PRODUCER EXPLAINS MALICK’S CANNES ABSENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:09 pm

A producer behind TERRENCE MALICK’s acclaimed new movie THE TREE OF LIFE has defended the reclusive director after he failed to show up at the Cannes Film Festival to receive the coveted Palme d’Or prize.
The new drama, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain, premiered at the event in France last week (ends22May11) and went on to win the festival’s top award on Sunday (22May11).
Malick didn’t promote the film with its stars and he was not present when the Palme d’Or was handed out, but producer Bill Pohlad has now explained why the notoriously publicity-shy moviemaker did not turn up.
He tells reporters at Cannes, "Why isn’t he here? I’m not saying it’s an easy question to answer, he is personally a very humble guy and a very shy guy. A lot of people… (see) this kind (of) behaviour as a bit of an act, but it’s not that way with Terry. He sincerely wants the work to speak for itself."

British musician DAVE STEWART has confirmed he has formed a supergroup with ROLLING STONES legend SIR MICK JAGGER and revealed they managed to keep the project under wraps for two years.

Stewart tells Beatweek magazine he is disappointed the story leaked, adding: "It’s unfortunate. We’ve kept this quiet for two years. We have 18 songs recorded and mixed. We have all the staff and we’re working on cradling this… It was like a huge long jam session that went on for months that then slowly turned into structure."

LOST DYLAN INTERVIEW REVEALS ‘HEROIN ADDICTION AND SUICIDAL THOUGHTS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

A previously unheard interview with BOB DYLAN appears to confirm longstanding rumours the music legend once battled a heroin addiction and reveals the rocker once felt so low he considered suicide.
Tapes of the folk-rocker talking to his music critic friend Robert Shelton during a plane journey in the 1960s have been obtained by Britain’s BBC and during the chat, the Blowin’ in the Wind hitmaker is heard talking about his brush with drugs.
Dylan purportedly tells Shelton, "I kicked a heroin habit in New York City. I got very, very strung out for a while, I mean really, very strung out. And I kicked the habit. I had about a $25-a-day habit and I kicked it." The two-hour long interview, which was recorded on Dylan’s private plane during a journey from Lincoln, Nebraska to Denver, Colorado, in 1966 also reveals the star’s thoughts on death, with the musician suggesting he once considered killing himself.
Dylan, who turns 70 years old on Tuesday (24May11), is heard saying, "Death to me is nothing… death to me means nothing as long as I can die fast. Many times I’ve known I could have been able to die fast, and I could have easily gone over and done it. I’ll admit to having this suicidal thing… but I came through this time…
"I take it (music) less seriously than anybody. I know that it’s not going to help me into heaven one little bit, man. It’s not going to get me out of the fiery furnace. It’s certainly not going to extend my life any and it’s not going to make me happy…
"I’m not the kind of cat that’s going to cut off an ear if I can’t do something. I’m the kind of cat that would just commit suicide. I’d shoot myself in the brain if things got bad. I’d jump from a window… man, I would shoot myself. You know I can think about death, man, openly." The recording was made while Shelton was working on Dylan’s biography, No Direction Home, which first came out in 1986. The tapes were uncovered during research for a revised edition which was recently published to mark the star’s upcoming birthday.

DUNST GRATEFUL TO LAND AWARD AFTER VON TRIER SCANDAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

KIRSTEN DUNST used her acceptance speech at the Cannes Film Festival awards gala to thank members of the jury for keeping her movie MELANCHOLIA in the competition after director LARS VON TRIER was banned from the French event.
The Danish moviemaker hit headlines last week ends (22May11) for making controversial comments about Nazi leader Adolf Hitler at a Cannes press conference to promote the new drama.
Festival bosses subsequently banished Von Trier and the director admitted his remarks were "completely and absolutely stupid," but the scandal failed to stem the success of Melancholia.
Dunst landed the Best Actress award for her role in the film and when she took to the stage to pick up the prize on Sunday (22May11), she praised festival bosses for keeping the movie in the contest.
She said, "Wow, what a week it’s been… This is an honour that’s once in a lifetime. Thank you to the Cannes Film Festival for allowing the film to still be in (the) competition… I want to thank Lars for giving me the opportunity to be so brave in this film. It’s such a special night for me."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm
