PROTESTERS TARGET KID ROCK NAACP PRIZEGIVING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:21 am

KID ROCK faced the wrath of angry protesters outside the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) gala in his native Detroit, Michigan as he picked up a special prize on Sunday night (01May11).
Organisers’ decision to honour the star sparked outrage among civil rights leaders because of his affiliation with the American Civil War-era Confederate Army flag, which has been adopted by white supremacists.
When the tribute was announced, leading Detroit activist Adolph Mongo said, "It’s a slap in the face for anyone who fought for civil rights in this country. It’s (Confederate flag) a symbol of hatred and bigotry." Before Kid Rock took to the stage at the event to accept the Great Expectations Award, around 60 demonstrators picketed the city’s Cobo Center to burn a replica of the controversial flag.
The musician went on to address their concerns at the event, telling the audience, "I love America. I love Detroit, and I love black people." Detroit NAACP President Wendell Anthony defended the board’s decision, saying, "We’re not lifting up the flag. We’re lifting up a gentleman who has worked very hard to be a booster for Detroit."

OSBOURNE SLAMS CRITIC OVER OZZY FILM REVIEW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:18 am

JACK OSBOURNE has taken aim at a critic of his new documentary about rocker dad OZZY after the journalist gave the film a less-than-glowing review.
Jack acted as producer on God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, for which he teamed up with directors Mike Piscitelli and Mike Fleiss to create a tell-all movie about his father’s unconventional story.
The crew followed the Black Sabbath star around for three-and-a-half years to create a never-seen-before glimpse into the Prince of Darkness’ life.
However, Variety reviewer John Anderson dismissed the movie’s credentials, insisting "non-fans will grow restless" and claiming the graphic detail of Ozzy’s former drug use bordered on "disgusting".
The review infuriated Jack Osbourne, who has addressed the critic in a foul-mouthed post on his Twitter.com page, writing, "Dear Variety Magazine, your review of my film is absolute b**locks. Your journalist obviously had his head up his a**e the entire time."

CHER PRAISES SON’S SEX-SWAP BRAVERY AT FILM SCREENING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:18 am

CHER praised her son CHAZ BONO’s bravery during a private screening of his revealing sex-swap documentary at her home over the weekend (30Apr-01May11).
The 41 year old, who was born a girl called Chastity, allowed directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato to film him as he underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2008.
The documentary, titled Becoming Chaz, features footage of Bono preparing to go under the knife to remove his breasts.
The Believe hitmaker has previously revealed she struggled to get used to having a son instead of a daughter, and admitted she often makes Chaz angry by referring to him by his birth name.
To show her support for his life-changing decision, the singer invited pals round to her Malibu, California home to watch the movie, according to People.com.
An insider tells the publication, "Cher and 10 of her and Chaz’s friends stood up and cheered when it was over," before revealing that Cher addressed the guests to say, "I admire my son Chaz’s courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That’s what I care about the most. He has my love and support."

WILLIS FILES NEW LAWSUIT OVER VILLAGE PEOPLE ROYALTIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:18 am

VILLAGE PEOPLE star VICTOR WILLIS is heading back to court once again after suing his former bandmates for $1.5 million (£890,000) in royalties.
The singer, who played the cop role in the camp group, left the line-up in 1979, but claims he is owed a larger slice of the proceeds because he helped to write hits including Y.M.C.A., Macho Man and In The Navy.
He filed his lawsuit in federal court in California last week (ends01May11).
Stewart Levy, a lawyer for Can’t Stop Productions, which now owns the rights to the tracks, insisted Willis’ legal action is "without merit".
Willis is no stranger to suing over his Village People past - in 2009, he settled a legal battle with the organisers of a college football half-time concert, which featured an offshoot of the Village People. He insisted a group using the band’s name had no right to include his image while performing under the moniker at the 2009 Brut Sun Bowl, which was broadcast across America.
He has not performed with the Village People since 1984.

RINGWALD EXPLODES HUGHES FILM CASTING MYTHS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:15 am

The casts of cult JOHN HUGHES films PRETTY IN PINK and THE BREAKFAST CLUB could have been completely different if the late writer/director had his way, according to his star MOLLY RINGWALD.
The actress attended a Hughes film class at the University of Southern California last week (ends29Apr11) and let slip that the stars of the two movies weren’t necessarily her mentor’s first choice.
She told students her break-out role in Hughes’ Sixteen Candles cost John and Joan Cusack leading roles in The Breakfast Club - the siblings were slated to play bad boy Bender and outcast Allison in the school detention movie, but studio bosses wanted to shoot Sixteen Candles first, and the Cusacks were forced to bow out of the project.
According to EW.com, Ringwald explained, "Universal said ‘We want to do this one first. We feel like it’s much more commercial’, which I think is funny because, well, I love Sixteen Candles, but I think Breakfast Club is a more interesting screenplay." The actress feels Hughes never settled with the eventual choice of ‘method actor’ Judd Nelson as Bender - and their relationship was frosty at times, particularly when Nelson goaded her in rehearsals.
She said, "In my head, he was doing an acting thing. It didn’t bother me but it bothered John a lot… I don’t remember specifics about what he said, but he made some crack about Stevie Wonder and my father is blind. All of the sudden I turned and looked at John and his face was like stone.
"The rehearsal ended early and all of a sudden it blew up. I don’t know what happened, but I’d heard he told Judd he was ready to put him on a plane." Ringwald also revealed Rick Moranis was the first choice to play janitor Carl, but studio heads persuaded Hughes to use John Kapelos instead: "He decided it would be funnier if the janitor was a Russian immigrant.
"He (Moranis) came and filmed for two days, and Rick Moranis was hilarious, but it just did not belong in this movie at all." And even Jon Cryer’s iconic role as Phil ‘Duckie’ Dale in Pretty in Pink wasn’t set in stone as pre-production on the 1980s film got underway - Michael J. Fox and Robert Downey, Jr. were both in the mix to play the character.
Fox dropped out to replace Eric Stoltz in Back to the Future and Ringwald admitted she had a lot of fun with Downey, Jr.
She recalled, "I remember Robert came in with a jacket decorated with Pez dispensers. He was just so funny and charming and charismatic, and we had this sort of sexual charisma together."

TAYLOR: ‘I’M NOT THE MAN FOR VELVET REVOLVER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

SLIPKNOT frontman COREY TAYLOR has dismissed reports he’ll be SCOTT WEILAND’s permanent replacement in rock supergroup VELVET REVOLVER, insisting the role was not meant to be.
The rocker auditioned for the role in Slash and Duff McKagan’s band, but he has nailed shut any suggestion he’s the man for the job in a new interview with BackstageAxxess.com.
Asked if he’s still in the mix for the vacant frontman role, Taylor replies, "It wasn’t on the cards, and that’s cool. I made some great friends… It was just cool to kind of get together with them and jam, man. But it’s all good." But Taylor has teamed up with McKagan in his band Loaded - and the bassist has nothing but respect for the Slipknot leader: "We recorded a bunch of songs with Corey. I think he’s f**king great. Whether he’s in Velvet Revolver or not… I think he’s the best voice of a new generation. The best rocking voice out there. He’s got a lot of positive energy. I’d be proud to do anything with him."
