Bosses at the BBC have decided to close down filming on DR WHO spin-off THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES following the death of the series’ star ELISABETH SLADEN last month (Apr11).
The actress, who played the sidekick of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker’s time-travelling doctors for a decade, passed away at the age of 63 following a battle with cancer.
She had starred in her own series for the broadcaster’s children’s channel CBBC since 2007, and rumours suggested the show would carry on without the beloved actress.
However executives have chosen to end the programme as a mark of respect.
A statement from the BBC says, "Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011.
"As a tribute to Elisabeth, the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed."

Funnyman DAVID SPADE is getting serious about the tornadoes which devastated parts of the midwestern and southern states of America last week (ends29Apr11) - he’s donating $200,000 (£125,000) to aid the clean-up operation.
The Joe Dirt star has handed over the cash to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
He says, "With the devastating disasters the tornadoes and floods are causing I wanted to help the Red Cross in their efforts to provide help as quickly as possible.
"I also hope this will help to shine the spotlight on the people of the United States who are in desperate need right now and that others will join me in donating what they can to support the American Red Cross’ huge disaster relief effort." A statement from the Red Cross reads, "The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from David Spade who, over the years, has selflessly donated his time, talent, and money to assist those in need." The organisation has revealed Spade, who is an American Red Cross National Cabinet member, donated $50,000 (£31,250) to disaster relief efforts in Kentucky and Tennessee last July (10).

Actor JACKIE COOPER, the man who played CLARK KENT’s newspaper boss in the first four SUPERMAN films, has died. He was 88.
A former child star, Cooper was one of only two young stars to win a Best Actor/Actress Oscar nomination before his 18th birthday for his role in 1931’s Skippy. He was nine.
He also appeared in Treasure Island as Jim Hawkins and 1940’s The Return of Frank James before turning his attention to TV as a regular and, in his later years, directing dramas like M*A*S*H* and The White Shadow.
But he’s best known by movie fans as Perry White, the editor of the Daily Sentinel, where Superman’s alter-ego Clark Kent worked in 1978’s Superman and its three sequels.
He was also a true American hero - Cooper served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific towards the end of World War Two and became a leading naval recruitment officer in the Naval Reserve.
In the mid-1970s, just before he took on the role in the Superman film, he was promoted to a Captain.
According to IMDB.com, the Navy proposed a period of active duty at the Pentagon for Cooper in 1980, which would have resulted in a promotion to Rear Admiral - but he declined the offer so he could concentrate on his directing dreams.
Only one other celebrity, James Stewart, has held a higher military rank.
Flowers were placed on Cooper’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Wednesday afternoon (04May11).

ROBERT PATTINSON is relieved he earns so much money - because it enabled him to save his dog’s life when the puppy fell sick.
The actor recently adopted a stray pooch from a shelter in Louisiana - where he has been filming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - to keep him company when he stays in hotels.
The British star was devastated when his pet fell ill with canine parvovirus, but he immediately used his wealth to order the best possible healthcare for the pup.
Pattinson tells Britain’s Elle magazine, "It sounds ridiculous but my dog was sick with a puppy disease called parvo and it was such a relief being able to go into the vet and say, ‘I want the best, immediately.’"

MICHAEL JACKSON’s mother has launched a collection of floral arrangements.
Katherine Jackson has teamed up with SendHerFlowers.com for a blooming new business venture just in time for America’s Mother’s Day on Sunday (08May11).
She explains, "I met the person that’s doing it with me through a friend. I love flowers and he had told me that that his family has been in the flower business for many years.
"I thought that was a good idea and a very good thing for us to do together. And here I am with a flower collection. And I love flowers anyway. I have them all around the house, all around the yard. I have them everywhere." Customers can visit the website and purchase one of Jackson’s six personally designed bouquets, created especially for the holiday.

JOHN TRAVOLTA’s upcoming Gotti family biopic has turned into a real family affair - KELLY PRESTON has signed on to play his onscreen wife.
Preston, who wed the Pulp Fiction star in 1991, will portray Victoria Gotti and the couple’s real-life daughter Ella Bleu, 11, will star as their onscreen child, Angel, in the upcoming film Gotti: Three Generations.
The movie’s producer, Marc Fiore, tells People.com, "The love and passion between John and Kelly… will bring a huge benefit to John Sr. and his wife." He adds, "They have a lot in common. They both lost a child at a young age and they understand what the Gottis went through when the Gottis lost their child." Travolta and Preston’s son Jett passed away in 2009.
Lindsay Lohan has also signed on to play Kim Gotti, the couple’s daughter-in-law, in the movie.
Rain Man moviemaker Barry Levinson was announced as the film’s director on Tuesday (03May11).

MARIAH CAREY has put to rest speculation about the names of her newborn twins - her baby daughter will be named MONROE and her son MOROCCAN SCOTT.
The pop superstar gave birth to husband Nick Cannon’s babies on Saturday (30Apr11) - the couple’s third wedding anniversary.
Carey decided against immediately releasing the names of the tots, but teased that they both began with the letter ‘M’ in a Twitter.com post.
But it appears she can no longer keep the news a secret and revealed all on Wednesday (04May11).
In a tweet to fans, a representative for the singer writes: "Mariah & Nick reveal the names of #dembabies Monroe Cannon & Moroccan Scott Cannon!" Carey called her baby girl Monroe after her idol, late Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, while the couple took inspiration for its son’s name from the Moroccan Room in the new mum’s New York apartment, which features North African-themed decor. It was also where Cannon proposed to Carey after a whirlwind romance in 2008.
The baby boy shares his middle name with Cannon, which is also the maiden name of the TV personality’s grandmother.
Little Monroe was not given a second name as Carey doesn’t have one either, according to a spokesperson for the superstar.

Actress SANDRA BULLOCK has cut off all contact with ex-husband JESSE JAMES, despite pledging to maintain a friendship for the sake of his daughter.
Bullock and James split in 2010 after the TV mechanic’s infidelities hit the headlines, but she suggested she’d always stay close to little Summer, seven, after forging a bond with the child during the marriage.
However, after confessing he had no contact with Louis, the baby he and Bullock adopted just before the split, earlier this week (beg02May11), James has now revealed he and his ex never even speak.
During an interview with U.S. news show Nightline, which will air in its entirety on Wednesday (04May11), James says, "I’ve never seen Louis since everything happened… (Sunny’s) seen her a couple times, but that’s it. But pretty much no contact for several months." But James, who has since proposed to celebrity tattooist Kat Von D, is determined to the put the past behind him and move on with his life.
In a defiant statement on the show, he adds, "I can’t worry about her (Bullock) anymore. I think I’ve spent a good chunk of the last five or six years worrying only about her and what she thinks and what I should do and, like, controlling all my movements and everything else. And I think it’s time to worry about Jesse and making sure Jesse is happy." James plans to wed his fiancee this summer (11).

Singer-turned-reality TV judge DANNII MINOGUE had a hair-raising moment on AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT when she grappled with a giant snake.
The Aussie star was filming an episode of the talent show to be broadcast on Wednesday (04Apr11) when a contestant produced the creepy grey-and-black reptile as part of his act.
Nature-loving Minogue couldn’t wait to get up close to the snake - and she was so proud of the moment, she posted a photograph online showing her smiling and cautiously holding the creature aloft.
In a message on Twitter.com to accompany the image, she writes, "A close encounter of the slithery kind!!!" It’s not the first time Minogue has worked with the reptiles - in the music video for her 2006 hit So Under Pressure, she was seen writhing with a white python.

The singer has brushed off reports she was furious with her husband Russell Brand when he posted an early morning photo of her without make-up online, insisting she’s not the glamorous hottie her fans always see in photos and onstage.

She reveals her new fiance popped the question during what she felt sure was a birthday celebration: "I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy." Actor ROB LOWE has sensationally revealed he was onboard the terrorist test flight Al Qaeda operatives took while planning the 9/11 attacks on America.
The former The West Wing and Brothers & Sisters star didn’t realise how close he came to the men behind the 2001 atrocities until he received a letter from the Attorney General of Maryland in excusing him from having to testify at the 2006 trial of hijack mastermind Zacarias Moussaoui.
Moussaoui, who was arrested after the 9/11 attacks on New York and The Pentagon that killed almost 3,000 people, was on Lowe’s flight from Washington, D.C. 11 days before the terrorist attacks.
He says, "I was shooting The West Wing in D.C. at the time and I always took the flight that leaves Dulles to Los Angeles that they eventually put into the Pentagon.
"They tell me I’ve appeared on Zacarias Moussaoui’s list of people he wants to depose for his trial (sic) and I think, ‘This has gotta be an April Fools (prank).’ I had my lawyer check it out and indeed that’s how I found out that flight was a dry run and I was surrounded by these guys.
"I looked around the cabin and I don’t remember anything in particular; nobody looked scary, nobody looked like a terrorist." Moussaoui is serving a life sentence at the SuperMax prison in Colorado after being convicted for his part in the 9/11 attacks.

MEL GIBSON’s ex-girlfriend has dropped her allegations of domestic violence against the actor in a bid to settle their bitter custody battle once and for all.
The Braveheart star split from Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his daughter Lucia, early last year (10) and she went on to accuse him of beating her in a violent domestic dispute.
The Russian singer has been fighting to alter their custody arrangements based on the battery claim ever since and the case returned to a Los Angeles court on Wednesday (04May11) .
But a lawyer for Gibson was left stunned when Grigorieva’s lawyer Dan Horowitz announced to Judge Scott Gordon they were no longer interested in pursuing the domestic violence allegation.
Grigorieva has also had a restraining order against Gibson terminated, according to TMZ.com.
The actor, who recently revealed he was confident he would achieve "some kind of justice" in the custody fight, was sentenced to three years probation and a year of counselling in March (11) after pleading no contest to a misdemeanour for simple battery.

Movie star ROBERT PATTINSON is homeless - because he "freaked out" when he was faced with buying his own place.
The Twilight star grew up in west London and now lives a jet-set lifestyle moving between film sets across the globe.
Pattinson has refrained from buying his own property and relies on staying in hotel rooms, but he admits not having a base drives him "crazy".
He tells Britain’s Elle magazine, "I came close to buying a house in Los Angeles, but 20 minutes from signing the contract I freaked out. So I don’t own a house or really have a home.
"It can drive you a bit crazy not having any kind of anchor. Hopefully it will settle down some time soon but for the next few years, I’m going to be filming all over the place."

FALL OUT BOY rocker PATRICK STUMP knew he needed a makeover after he posed for a special snap with U.S. President BARACK OBAMA - and failed to recognise himself in the photo.
The singer met Obama in 2009 on the night the politician was inducted into the White House and was stunned by a picture they took together because he was practically "hidden" from view by his accessories.
Stump decided then to lose weight and swapped his trademark hats and shaggy sideburns for slim-fitting suits and a cropped haircut.
He tells WENN, "I met Obama the night he got inaugurated. I looked at the photo and you can’t see me in it because I’m behind all this stuff. That’s something I’m going to show my grandkids and you can’t see it because I was so caught up in these accessories.
"It became this thing of, ‘What hat is he going to wear today? I love your sideburns, can I touch your sideburns?’ People were really attached to these things. I got really scared. (Entering Fall Out Boy), I didn’t know that this was the only outfit I was ever going to wear. When I had the opportunity, I was just like, I’m going to stop this and dress how I wanna dress! "I had the hat, I had the sideburns, sometimes I had glasses - a lot of things to hide behind. My face wasn’t really out there."

CHARLIE SHEEN has made good on his promise to raise funds for victims of the recent tornados in the U.S. - he’s launched a charity website selling autographed baseballs.
The former Two and a Half Men star visited the ravaged state of Alabama on Sunday (01May11) after almost 300 people were killed when devastating storms hit the south of the country last week (beg25Apr11).
He promised to use his current high profile to help raise money for those affected by the disaster - and now he’s launched a website urging fans to donate to the cause.
The site - called Torpedos Against Tornados in honour of Sheen’s recent My Violent Torpedo Of Truth/Death Is Not An Option stand-up tour - gives fans the chance to donate cash via PayPal, with the promise of a special gift for big contributors.
Sheen is pictured on the website homepage next to the message: "Donate at least $100 and get a baseball personally signed by Charlie Sheen!"

CAMERON DIAZ has opened up about her relationship with baseball star ALEX RODRIGUEZ, confirming for the first time that the two stars are a couple.
