WAINWRIGHT PERFORMED CHARITY SHOWS IN HOPE OF SAVING MUM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT threw himself into performing for charity while his late mother KATE MCGARRIGLE was battling cancer because he was convinced he could "save her life" with the shows.
Folk singer McGarrigle was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2006 and her son fronted several gigs to raise funds for those fighting the disease, including a 2009 concert at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall in aid of Cancer Research UK and his mum’s foundation, the Kate McGarrigle Fund.
McGarrigle died last year (10), at the age of 63, but Rufus is still determined to do all he can to raise money and awareness of the disease.
He tells NowToronto.com, "(My advocacy) coincided with the greatest tragedy of my life so far, which was my mother dying of cancer.
"When I started doing charity shows (before she passed away), there was a side of me that believed it would save her life.
"As I was able to (raise money), life threw me a situation: this is what you’re really involved with, so, you know, look out!"
