CANCELLED SOAPS LAND TOP DAYTIME EMMY NOMINATIONS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:06 pm

Axed U.S. soaps ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE are set to go out with a bang after scoring a combined total of 25 nominations for the 2011 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Earlier this year (11), ABC network bosses announced All My Children will come to an end in September (11) after 41 years on air, while One Life To Live will also be scrapped following a 43-year run.
But the shows look set to dominate the 38th annual Daytime Emmys - All My Children, which has 13 nominations, is up for Outstanding Drama Series, competing against The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless, while its stars Alicia Minshew, Debbi Morgan and Ricky Paull Goldin will all do battle in the Leading Drama Actor categories.
All My Children’s Melissa Claire Egan will go up against One Life To Live actress Bree Williamson for Best Supporting Drama Actress title, alongside the likes of Julie Pinson (As The World Turns), Heather Tom (The Bold and the Beautiful) and Tricia Cast (The Young and the Restless), while Williamson’s co-star Brian Kerwin will fight for Best Supporting Drama Actor, a category which includes Jonathan Jackson and Jason Thompson from General Hospital.
Medical drama series General Hospital leads the nominations with 21, while The Young and The Restless garnered 20 and children’s show Sesame Street earned 16.
Comedienne-turned-talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is also set for a big night after taking 12 nods, including Outstanding Talk Show - pitting The Ellen DeGeneres Show against The View, Regis & Kelly and Rachael Ray.
DeGeneres’ hit programme also gained recognition for direction, set design and make-up, although the star herself failed to land a nomination for Outstanding Talk Show Host - a title she has won four times before. Instead, The View’s star-studded line-up - consisting of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters - will battle against the presenters of Regis & Kelly, Rachael Ray, The Doctors and Dr. Oz for the top TV category.
The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony in Las Vegas on 19 June (11). Actor/comedian Wayne Brady will host.

SPEARS TO BECOME COMIC BOOK STAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

Pop superstar BRITNEY SPEARS has become the latest celebrity to be immortalised in a comic book.
The Toxic hitmaker’s rise to stardom and highly publicised private life has been turned into a series of illustrations by heads at Bluewater Productions Inc., who recently turned Lindsay Lohan’s woes into a story.
Other stars who have been given the comic book treatment by the firm include Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, as well as Lady Gaga.
Writer Patrick McCray says, "She is far more complicated than most people realise. No matter what preconceptions you have about her, there will always be more layers and surprises. Beyond the performer, there is a real human being there, struggling for a real life, struggling to connect with her art, and struggling to be understood." The 32-page comic is due for release on Wednesday (11May11).

SMITH’S MEN IN BLACK TRAILER CAUSES UPROAR IN NEW YORK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

The giant trailer which WILL SMITH is using while filming MEN IN BLACK III has sparked complaints from New York residents who have branded the massive structure a nuisance.
The Hollywood actor is currently filming the sci-fi sequel in Manhattan along with co-stars Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
Smith spends his free time on set in a huge double-decker mobile home, which has been parked in the city’s SoHo district as he shoots scenes for the upcoming blockbuster. The trailer is set over two floors and features a cinema, a lounge bar, offices, a meeting room, a full-sized kitchen, as well as a large bedroom and bathroom, and measures a massive 53 feet (16 metres) in length.
Smith also has another trailer on site which houses his full-sized gym.
The sizable structure has infuriated residents in the neighbourhood, who claim the trailer is causing disruption.
Myrna Reisman, 62, who lives close to where the trailer has been parked, tells the New York Post, "It’s ridiculous! I’ve lived here 26 years, and I’ve never seen anything this size. This thing is like a duplex. How would Will Smith feel if I parked that thing out in front of his house? People forget this is a residential neighborhood, not a film lot." Another neighbour, Brigette Moreno, 22, adds, "It looks bigger than my apartment! The smell that comes along with it is disgusting. It’s like living in a gas station. I really like Will Smith, but I would be embarrassed if that was my trailer. A little modesty goes a long way." City officials have confirmed cops are working with the production team to ensure parking restrictions are not violated by the crew’s vehicles, with Julianne Cho, an associate commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, insisting no rules have been broken. She says, "NYPD supervisors and officers assigned to the set from the Movie/TV Unit are on hand to ensure a production’s parking is in compliance with its permit." While a representative for Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio behind the movie, adds, "We know we are guests in the neighbourhoods where we film, and are always respectful of the area residents and businesses."

WAINWRIGHT PERFORMED CHARITY SHOWS IN HOPE OF SAVING MUM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT threw himself into performing for charity while his late mother KATE MCGARRIGLE was battling cancer because he was convinced he could "save her life" with the shows.
Folk singer McGarrigle was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2006 and her son fronted several gigs to raise funds for those fighting the disease, including a 2009 concert at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall in aid of Cancer Research UK and his mum’s foundation, the Kate McGarrigle Fund.
McGarrigle died last year (10), at the age of 63, but Rufus is still determined to do all he can to raise money and awareness of the disease.
He tells NowToronto.com, "(My advocacy) coincided with the greatest tragedy of my life so far, which was my mother dying of cancer.
"When I started doing charity shows (before she passed away), there was a side of me that believed it would save her life.
"As I was able to (raise money), life threw me a situation: this is what you’re really involved with, so, you know, look out!"

CORGAN TO RELEASE ‘SPIRITUAL MEMOIR’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

Rocker BILLY CORGAN is putting pen to paper to write an autobiography detailing his private life and career.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman has already written 300 pages of God Is Everywhere, From Here To There, which he describes as a "spiritual memoir".
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It’s a very interesting take inside my personal life and my band life. I’ve decided to write this on my own, which is complete insanity. I try to spend an hour a day on the book, which is the time I would usually put towards music writing. So that means I have to find that hour, because I won’t give up that music writing time. It’s a journey, for sure." Corgan admits he has had to tread carefully with the subject matter following the backlash he faced after taking to his MySpace blog in 2005 to write about abuse he suffered as a child.
He adds, "It’s totally fresh material. When I started talking about child abuse stuff, and people started saying, ‘You have no right to talk about that stuff,’ it was a total turn-off. Because people start saying, ‘Well, my dad ripped my arm off, so you can’t talk.’ Well, I’m just talking about my journey. I apologise that I didn’t get beat more." Corgan’s book is due for release next year (12).

JUSTIN BIEBER struggled through his gig in the Philippines on Tuesday night (10May11) as he was vomiting during the show.
The Baby hitmaker is in the country as part of his My World tour and he took to Twitter.com over the weekend (07-08May11) to inform his fans he had been struck down with a mystery illness.

The veteran actor takes on the role of the famed investor in new HBO film Too Big To Fail alongside co-stars James Woods and William Hurt.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show star thoroughly researched the role, but never had the opportunity to come face-to-face with Buffett.

DOCTOR WHO WRITER CONDEMNS LEAKS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm

DOCTOR WHO writer STEVEN MOFFAT has taken aim at fans who leaked top-secret plotlines from the show, calling the spoilers "horrific" and "heartbreaking".
Two storylines from the current season of the British sci-fi programme were posted on an internet forum last year (10) before the episodes were broadcast.
Moffat blames fans who were invited to a preview screening, where producers specifically asked guests not to give away any details.
He tells the BBC, "You can imagine how much I hate them. It’s only fans who do this, or they call themselves fans. I wish they could go and be fans of something else.
"It’s heartbreaking in a way because you’re trying to tell stories, and stories depend on surprise. So to have some twit who came to a press launch write up a story in the worst, most ham-fisted English you can imagine, and put it on the internet… I just hope that guy never watched my show again, because that’s a horrific thing to do." Moffat admits most Doctor Who followers are "spoiler-phobes" who avoid reading about the cult series, adding: "They want to preserve the surprise. The tragedy is you have to work hard at that now. Stories depend on shocking people. Stories are the moments that you didn’t see coming, that are what live in you and burn in you forever. If you are denied those, it’s vandalism."

CHRISTENSEN VOWS TO APPEAL TV LAWSUIT DISMISSAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm

HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN has vowed to launch an appeal after a judge dismissed his lawsuit against the TV bosses he accused of stealing his idea for a comedy series.
The Canadian actor and his brother, Tove, filed suit against executives at the USA Network over allegations one of the channel’s shows is based on an idea the brothers pitched to them back in 2005.
They claim their proposal for a show called Housecall, about a "concierge" doctor who makes home visits to rich and famous clients, was turned into Royal Pains, starring Mark Feuerstein.
The case went to court in New York on Tuesday (10May11) and Manhattan federal Judge Colleen McMahon dismissed the lawsuit, ruling the claims concerned "materials that are not copyrightable, such as ideas".
Their lawyer, David Marek, has now confirmed the brothers will appeal the decision, telling the New York Post, "We are disappointed with the ruling and hope to have it reversed on appeal."
