JOLIE REPLACED BY WINSLET FOR LUXURY BRAND

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

Oscar winner KATE WINSLET is the new spokesmodel for upscale brand St. John, replacing ANGELINA JOLIE and JACK WHITE’s wife KAREN ELSON.
The Tomb Raider star was dropped by the designer line last year (10) after starring in its ad campaigns for more than five years, with redheaded singer Elson taking her place.
But now Elson is out of the picture, too - and Titanic star Winslet is slipping into her shoes.
The British beauty’s appointment has come as a surprise to fashion insiders since top executive Glenn McMahon admitted last year (10) that Jolie was dropped because she "overshadowed" the brand.
He added, "We wanted to make a clean break from actresses and steer away from blondes and cleanse the palette." Winslet posed for a campaign shot by photographer Craig McDean last week (ends01May11) and will appear in St. John advertisements later this year (10).

PREGNANT BROWN FEARS FOR BELAFONTE AT BIRTH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

Pregnant pop star MELANIE BROWN has no plans to have husband STEPHEN BELAFONTE as her birthing partner - she’s terrified he will be "all over the place" in the delivery room.
The former Spice Girls star, who has two daughters from previous relationships, is expecting her first child with Belafonte this summer (11).
The couple is already preparing for the new arrival and Brown’s imminent hospital stay - but the star is worried her husband won’t cope during her labour.
She tells Britain’s new! magazine, "Will he be my birthing partner? Oh God, no, he’s going to be horrendous. I mentioned to him that we’re going to pack our overnight bag and he went white. I instantly had a flash forward that he’s going to be all over the place."

CLAFLIN DITCHED SOCCER HOPES FOR ACTING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

Rookie actor SAM CLAFLIN is still stunned he was chosen to replace ORLANDO BLOOM in the next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie - because he always dreamed of a career as a soccer player.
The Brit was a keen footballer in his youth and planned to sign up for English Premier League club Norwich City, but his sporting career was cut short when he suffered a broken ankle.
Claflin’s mother suggested he tried his hand at acting instead and he won roles in several minor British TV shows - and less than two years later he’s been plucked from obscurity to star as Johnny Depp’s new sidekick in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Claflin tells Empire magazine, "I realised I was too weak to play football at an adult level. As I was a drama queen on the pitch, my mum said, ‘You should try acting on stage.’… The biggest challenge (on the Pirates of the Caribbean set) has been staying focused. You have to pinch yourself, say, ‘I am working… but look at that cave!’" Bloom quit the swashbuckling franchise after 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End to concentrate on more theatre work.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

MELANIE CHISHOLM has thrown her support behind a motivational charity in the U.K. by singing the soundtrack for the organisation’s film.
The former Spice Girls star has long backed Kandu Arts, which aims to promote development and raise awareness in society - she donated the proceeds from her 2000 single If That Were Me to the cause.
And she’s once again lending her name to the charity by recording a song, Viva Life, for a small-budget movie, named Bash Street, about real-life experiences of crime, growing up and relationships.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Thank you for all your lovely comments on Viva Life. The title song for Bash Street, the new film by my favourite charity Kandu Arts. I’m honoured to be a part of this fantastic project."

COLE REPS DENY SHE’S BACK WITH EX-HUSBAND

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

Representatives for British singer CHERYL COLE have dismissed a report she’s set to announce she has reconciled with her ex-husband.
The Girls Aloud star filed for divorce from England international soccer ace Ashley last year (10) following allegations he had cheated on her with several women.
Their four-year marriage officially ended in September (10) and Cole later told of her heartache during a tearful TV interview with Piers Morgan.
On Tuesday (03May11), a British magazine reported the pair reunited several months ago and is preparing to go public after deciding to give the failed romance another chance.
But a spokesman for the Fight For This Love singer moved swiftly to deny the claims, posting a link to the article on Twitter.com with the message: "It’s bulls**t Tuesday. Again."

SMITH WINS SWEDEN’S POLAR MUSIC PRIZE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

Punk icon PATTI SMITH has been selected to receive Sweden’s prestigious Polar Music Prize.
The rocker will share the honour, which is handed out by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, with the Kronos Quartet.
The prize committee which selected Smith insisted that "by devoting her life to art in all its forms, Patti Smith has demonstrated how much rock ‘n’ roll there is in poetry and how much poetry there is in rock ‘n’ roll".
The judges added that the 64 year old "has transformed the way an entire generation looks, thinks, and dreams".
Both Smith and the string quartet will be invited to a ceremony in Stockholm later this year (11) to accept the prize of one million kronor ($166,000/£103,000).
The Polar Music Prize, which was founded by ABBA’s former manager Stig Anderson in 1989, is shared annually by a pop artist and a classical musician. Last year (10), it was awarded to Icelandic singer Bjork and Italian composer Ennio Morricone.

STUMP REFUSES TO CELEBRATE BIN LADEN DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

FALL OUT BOY rocker PATRICK STUMP was stunned by footage of Americans rejoicing after terrorist leader OSAMA BIN LADEN was shot, because he would never "party" after someone’s death - no matter how evil the person had been.
The singer was in London to embark on a European solo trek when news broke that the U.S. military in Pakistan had killed bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, at the weekend (30Apr11-01May11).
Stump admits he was surprised to see relieved patriots in his homeland waving flags to mark the event and admits he found the news footage "unsettling".
He tells WENN, "The thing that is hard for me as an American is that… obviously it’s a symbolic victory for the War on Terror but at the end of the day, I don’t think it’s ever cool to celebrate anyone’s death. I just don’t believe in that.
"Not to say that I don’t think he was a bad guy - I think he was a bad guy, he did a lot of terrible things. He killed not only Americans, he killed people all over the world, he killed people of all different religions.
"He was a bad guy but I’m not going to jump up and down and party because some guy died - that’s not cool. It’s unsettling because I can say that I’m glad that he won’t order more killings but that’s about it. I’m not glad that a person got shot."

Funnymen WILL FERRELL and JOHN C. REILLY puckered up for a smooch at a basketball match on Monday night (02May11) - after staff targeted them with a "kiss-cam".
The close pals attended the Los Angeles Lakers game against Dallas Mavericks and were pictured munching burgers as they cheered on their team.
But their evening took a saucy turn when pranksters working in the control booth aimed the venue’s kiss-cam at the pair - obliging them to lock lips for the amusement of other fans.
And the actors proved they’re willing to entertain even on a night off by leaning in for a smooch, prompting a huge cheer from the crowd as it was broadcast on giant screens in the auditorium.
