ROCKER: ‘I NEVER THOUGHT SUPPORT ACT U2 WOULD MAKE IT BIG’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:48 am

Former STRAY CATS star LEE ROCKER is still amazed by the group’s one-time support act U2’s success - because he was convinced BONO and his bandmates would never make it big.
The Irish rockers opened for the Stray Cats in the early 1980s and the bassist admits he was convinced they were too political to make it in the music business.
Rocker tells WENN, "They were the opening act on a couple of shows and I didn’t see that one coming. I never thought they’d ever really make it.
"I think there’s a place for U2 but, for me, personally, I’m not a giant fan of political rock. That’s just not my bag. I didn’t love them."

LOST GALLAGHER ALBUM REMASTERED BY NEPHEW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:48 am

A lost 1978 album recorded by late Irish blues great RORY GALLAGHER has been unearthed and remastered by his nephew.
Gallagher’s Notes From San Francisco was shelved following a studio rift between the guitarist and producer Eliot Mazer, but it remained the property of the Taste frontman.
His nephew, Daniel, stumbled across the recording last year (10) and his father Donal, who oversees his brother’s estate, gave him permission to remaster the sessions.
Donal reveals Rory was keen to take another look at the lost album just before he died in 1995.
Spokesperson Carol Kaye tells WENN, "This is the Holy Grail for Rory’s fans." The new album comes with a live album taken from four December nights in 1979 at San Francisco’s The Old Waldorf.
Kaye adds, "Daniel Gallagher chose to add the live side to highlight why Rory chose to shelve the studio album and reduce his band back down to a three-piece. Rory, after seeing The Sex Pistols at Winterland during final mixes for his own album, was struck by the stark drama and blunt primitivism of pure punk.
"He had been saying that he wanted to get back to what he called ‘meat’n'potato rock’n'roll,’ a stripped-back primal raw immediacy hearkening back to his Taste days."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

Singer JUSTIN GUARINI is the latest star to become a dad after welcoming a son on Tuesday (26Apr11).
The former American Idol runner-up is a new father after his wife Reina Capodici gave birth to little William Neko Bell Guarini.
The couple’s new arrival was due in March (11) but his timing was perfect for Guarini, who wrapped his role in Broadway’s American Idiot musical on Sunday (24Apr11).
He tells People.com, "Quite a polite fellow for waiting until late Monday, early Tuesday to make his entrance. With a full head of curly brown hair, wide open and alert eyes he came charging into the world.
"Reina is doing wonderfully and should be given a medal for going 10 months and 1 week with child." Funnyman Kevin James, Black Eyed Peas star Taboo and former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Ian Ziering have also become dads in the past few days.

MAYALL SHOCKED BY MOORE’S DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

Blues legend JOHN MAYALL is still stunned by the death of guitar great GARY MOORE, who died after suffering a heart attack in Spain in February (11).
The former Bluesbreakers leader, 78, worked with Moore on his 2001 album Along for the Ride and was hoping to work with his old pal again some day when he heard the sad news Moore had passed away.
Mayall tells WENN, "He was a good friend and it was really a surprise. It’s always sad to lose someone who was talented and prominent in the blues world. We can’t really afford to lose people like that." And he still has fond memories of working with the late Thin Lizzy star on If I Don’t Get You Home.
He adds, "It wasn’t really a planned thing. I was collecting musical people for the album and it turned out he just happened to be in the studio that was above our studio at that time. It was almost accidental. He took a break and came downstairs and put on his guitar track all in one take. That’s the way we worked."

NEIL’S DUI CASE OFFICIALLY CLOSED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

Rocker VINCE NEIL can put his most recent DUI charge firmly behind him after completing court-ordered counselling sessions as part of his sentence.
The Motley Crue star spent his 54th birthday behind bars in February (11) as he served 10 days of a 15-day jail term in Nevada, stemming from his 2010 arrest for drink driving.
He endured a further 15 days under house arrest, paid a fine and was told to enrol in alcohol awareness lessons.
However, the case was declared closed on Tuesday (26Apr11) when a Las Vegas judge signed off on the completion of the counselling course.
Neil also made a $500 (£312.50) donation to the campaign group Mothers Against Drunk Driving, according to court spokeswoman Mary Ann Price.
But the singer’s legal woes don’t end there - he is due to be arraigned in a Las Vegas court on Monday (02May11) on separate charges of misdemeanour battery and disorderly conduct relating to an incident in March (11). The charges followed an altercation with his TV reporter ex-girlfriend Alicia Jacobs, and could land him back behind bars if the judge rules it was a violation of his probation.

BEYONCE IN LEGAL TANGLE WITH VIDEO GAME BOSSES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:42 am

BEYONCE has been accused of putting 70 people out of work after "abruptly abandoning" plans for a video game "on a whim", according to new legal documents.
Bosses at a firm called Gate Five claim they were set to release a game with the R&B singer called Starpower: Beyonce, but the deal fell through when she suddenly pulled out of the project last year (10).
According to a complaint filed on Tuesday (26Apr11) in New York, the agreement fell apart during a "crucial moment in the project’s development" because Beyonce made "an extortionate demand" for more cash.
As a result, Beyonce allegedly "destroyed Gate Five’s business, and drove 70 people into unemployment, the week before Christmas".
Gate Five chiefs want to recover the $6.7 million (£4.2 million) investment they put into the venture and more than $100 million (£62.5 million) in profits they claim the game would have pulled in, reports TMZ.com.

ELDARD PACKS ON THE POUNDS TO PLAY ROTUND ROADIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:42 am

BLACK HAWK DOWN star RON ELDARD packed on 20 pounds (nine kilograms) in just two weeks to play a roadie in his latest movie.
The film star packed on a total of 38 pounds (17 kilograms) while making Roadie - and he was amazed how easy it was to get fat.
He tells WENN, "I would eat late at night; every night I would have many slices of pizza, milkshakes, candy, french fries and fried food.
"I ate well during the day so I wouldn’t fall asleep at work. I was so uncomfortable. I was sweaty but it was great for the role. Every day I would go to craft service and load up bowls of candy and cookies." Eldard is now losing the weight, so he can portray a washed-up rocker in a new film based on his own screenplay.
He adds, "I’m actually writing a script about a rock star that I hope to star in and direct. It’s about a guy who was a star and the business has changed so and he has a major substance abuse problem. It’s a road trip movie. It’s his struggle to come to terms with what is going on in his life."

RUFFALO CONTINUING CHARITY WORK AFTER FILM RESEARCH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:42 am

Actor/director MARK RUFFALO continues to dedicate his spare time to helping the homeless after lending a hand in a soup kitchen as part of his research for new movie SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS.
The Kids Are All Right star takes on double duty in the film, featuring in his own directorial debut as a priest who works for a homeless shelter, and he wanted to make sure he understood all aspects of the role by teaming up with a local Los Angeles charity to volunteer for himself.
Ruffalo took to the streets of Skid Row, one of the city’s most notoriously violent homeless districts, to serve up hot meals and admits he found the work so rewarding, he likes to help feed the homeless whenever he can.
He tells WENN, "We spent a lot of time feeding the homeless. I had a priest who was my consultant, Father James Dugan, who was a Jesuit homeless activist who had a homeless shelter in Hollywood.
"We spent a lot of time on Skid Row feeding the homeless as well. There’s a lot of grace in just a simple act of giving people the barest of necessities, food, water and shelter. It’s very moving and quite beautiful and very poetic; they’re essentially pretty sweet people who happen to be down on their luck. It’s a huge population in Los Angeles and it becomes apparent that it’s not hard to get there these days (to become homeless). I’m still involved when I can be with The Love Affiliation (organisation which feeds the homeless) in New York."

GLENN WANTS TO CONTINUE ACTIVE LIFESTYLE AS LONG AS HE LIVES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:39 am

Veteran actor SCOTT GLENN is refusing to take heed of his doctor’s advice and quit performing his own movie stunts after undergoing surgery for a shoulder injury for a second time.
The Silence of the Lambs star, 70, has continued to take on action roles in films such as The Bourne Ultimatum and this year’s (11) Sucker Punch, despite his advancing age, and he also enjoys an active lifestyle when he’s not in front of the cameras, indulging in his love of climbing, skydiving and motorbike racing.
He insists the adrenaline rush he experiences while living on the edge is what gives him the zest for life - and he has no intention of letting a few bumps and bruises slow him down.
Glenn tells WENN, "The one sort of quandary that I have right now is I’m this old fart with grandkids but, in terms of the parts I’m offered, kids still know who I am and get it. I don’t sit behind a desk and give orders or hobble out to sit on a rocking chair and read books.
"I go deep water spear diving and climbing and still get track days on motorcycles and live a very physical life. There aren’t that many parts around that reflect that.
"Physical injury is part of the price you pay for doing these things. I’m onto a second shoulder surgery and my orthopedic surgeon thought it was the end of my hopping onto my Ducati (motorbike) and going down to the racetrack. I said, ‘No, if I bottom out I’ll see you in the hospital again!’…
"I’ve probably been hurt more seriously making movies than anything else. In Urban Cowboy I got a concussion, a cracked collarbone. I did a terrible movie in Europe where I was jumping between buildings and I tore my back up; my lat (upper back) muscles completely separated. I got burned doing Backdraft when they set me on fire and it kind of got out of hand.
"I probably paid a physical price more for my art than I have for the sports I do, which is crazy. I’m very lucky too. I’ve gotten away with way more than I probably should have."

GRANT’S DAUGHTER RELEASING MEMOIR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:39 am

Hollywood icon CARY GRANT’s daughter has laughed off long-running rumours about her father’s sexuality in a new memoir.
The British actor’s only child, Jennifer, has put pen to paper to reveal all about life with the To Catch A Thief star in Good Stuff: A Reminiscence of My Father, Cary Grant, which also includes rare photos and personal mementos of their time together before his death in 1986 at the age of 82.
In the book, Jennifer, now 45, admits her famous father was always intrigued by the gay rumours and may have even played up the reports on purpose.
She writes, "Can’t blame men for wanting him, and wouldn’t be surprised if Dad even mildly flirted back. When the question arises, it generally speaks more about the person asking.
"(But) Dad somewhat enjoyed being called gay. He said it made women want to prove the assertion wrong." Jennifer insists she is a living testament to her dad’s legendary charm, adding: "OK, I had a crush on Dad. OK, more than a little crush on Dad. My other real crushes were (singer) Donny Osmond and (French actor) Jean-Paul Belmondo." Grant’s daughter also touches on her dad’s four-year marriage to her mother, actress Dyan Cannon, in 1965, admitting it was never going to work out in the long term because both stars were so headstrong: "Something in me has always felt that my parents came together to make me." And Jennifer has also taken the opportunity to address claims the actor was tight with money, writing, "In my experience, Dad was neither cheap nor excessive. Which, for a wealthy man, is remarkable." Good Stuff: A Reminiscence of My Father, Cary Grant is due for release next week (begs02May11).

CHARLIE SHEEN came to the rescue of his pal LENNY DYKSTRA last week (ends24Apr11) by allegedly posting the sports star’s bail.
The former baseball player, who is embroiled in bankruptcy proceedings, was arrested earlier this month (Apr11) on suspicion of illegally removing and selling personal property from his home without official permission.
Dykstra - nicknamed Nails - was held on remand and eventually freed on $150,000 (£93,750) bail last Wednesday (20Apr11).
Reports now suggest Sheen helped his longtime friend out of jail by offering up 15 per cent of his bail bond - a downpayment of $22,500 (£14,063), according to TMZ.com. The troubled actor appears to confirm the news to the website, saying, "The rendition guilty trolls that kidnapped my dear friend Nails clearly forgot that he’s a fellow Vatican assassin and his best pal is a warlock."

GELDOF NOT HOSTING THE TUBE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

PEACHES GELDOF has shot down rumours she is set to revive the British music show which was hosted by her late mother PAULA YATES in the 1980s.
Yates married Peaches’ father Bob in 1986 but famously left the rocker in the mid-1990s after falling in love with INXS star Michael Hutchence, who she had previously interviewed on rock TV programme The Tube.
Peaches was recently rumoured to be taking on presenting duties for a new version of the show, but she insists the reports are false.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Just to clarify - I’m not presenting on the new series of The Tube, if there’s going to even be one. It’s an internet rumour and isn’t true."

MCKAGAN’S FEARS OVER REALITY SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Former GUNS N’ ROSES star DUFF MCKAGAN was determined to retain control over what was broadcast in his recent reality show - because he "didn’t want to look like a buffoon" on TV.
The rocker and his partner Susan allowed cameras into their home to document their lives in Married To Rock, which also featured Jane’s Addiction star Perry Farrell and his wife Etty, as well as other rock couples.
McKagan admits he wanted to keep their involvement "controlled" so he spent hours pouring over contracts to make sure he had a say in what was aired.
He tells Thesunsetstrip.com, "As far as cameras in my personal life, I think I probably put more stress on myself. Just making sure the contracts were structured correctly… You know limiting what they could and couldn’t use, and you know, I just didn’t want to look like a buffoon. I didn’t want to be that guy walking down the street and be known as ‘that reality show guy’.
"I’m a musician first and foremost, and forever, and I don’t want to be known later on in my career as a reality show TV guy. So I think I just put stress on myself… We kept it controlled; we didn’t show our kids." But the bassist is glad he signed up, as the show introduced him to a new generation of rock fans. He adds, "It was innocent, if anything a younger audience who may not have recognised me does now."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm

R&B star TONI BRAXTON has moved to end her money woes by completing a court-ordered course on financial management.
The singer filed for bankruptcy for a second time last year (10) amid allegations her debts spiralled to between $10 million (£6.3 million) and $50 million (£31 million).
She was ordered to enrol on a course about money matters as part of her case, and she passed on 15 April (11).
Braxton’s pass certificate, obtained by TMZ.com, reveals she completed an "internet instruction course concerning personal financial management".

COMBS’ DASH FOR NEW JERSEY CLUB APPEARANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm

SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS faced a race against time to attend a nightclub appearance in New Jersey on Friday night (22Apr11) after aviation officials failed to approve his demand for a helipad, according to a U.S. report.
The hip-hop mogul was due to appear at Club 4 Sixty 6 following a show in New York and planned to get there fast using a helicopter, but he was left grounded when chiefs at the Federal Aviation Administration did not give the flight the green light in time.
Combs was then given a police escort to the club, according to the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six.
A source tells the publication, "Diddy heard his helicopter had not been cleared for landing, and said he wouldn’t go to Jersey if he couldn’t get there on time. His team spoke to the police, and he was driven - like a head of state - in his Bentley with three SUVs in a convoy, with two police cars in front, lights flashing, and another behind." John Mahdessian, owner of dry-cleaning service Madame Paulette, which helped the star with clothes for the show, says, "This happened last-minute. I organised the police escort through my contacts. There were three squad cars with the lights flashing. I went along also. We were at the club in New Jersey within 15 minutes." Combs’ representatives have not commented on the report.
