WYCLEF MAKES LIGHT OF SHOOTING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:30 pm

Rapper WYCLEF JEAN poked fun at his recent gun shot injury in Haiti as he took to the stage over the weekend for his first performance since the incident.
The former Fugees star was shot in the hand after his car came under attack and was peppered with bullets as he was being driven through the city of Port-au-Prince promoting the election in his native Haiti.
But the hip-hop artist brushed off the shooting in a freestyle rap as he performed at Haze Nightclub in Las Vegas on Saturday (26Mar11), with a Haitian flag wrapped around his wounded hand.
And Jean is thankful his misfortune helped to highlight the country’s turmoil, which may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
He tells People.com, "It brought light to the fact that there was an election going on that day. I don’t think none of you all knew about an election in Haiti until everyone heard what happened to me." The rapper, who lives primarily in the U.S., had expressed his desire to run for president in his home country, but was ruled out of the political race after Haitian lawmakers decided he did not meet the necessary residency requirements.

PINTO’S FOREIGN TRIPS SOLVE SHOE WOES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:28 pm

Actress FREIDA PINTO loves to embark on shoe-shopping expeditions during trips to Britain and the U.S. - because her feet are too big for traditional footwear in her native India.
The Slumdog Millionaire star is a fan of sexy high heels and trendy pumps but struggles find shoes that fit her from stores near her home in Mumbai.
So she makes it her main priority to stock up on footwear from designer stores whenever she heads to Europe or the U.S.
Pinto tells Britain’s You magazine, "I have unusually big feet for India - 41, which is a size 10 in America and a size seven in the U.K. - so I just go crazy when I come here or to the U.S.
"I buy three pairs for me, three pairs for my sister, three pairs for mum. Sometimes I just look at them, I don’t even get to wear them, which is so sad."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:28 pm

Actress MIRANDA COSGROVE is leading a new TV campaign to raise awareness about bullying in the digital age.
The iCarly star has joined forces with executives at children’s TV network Nickelodeon and a host of its young actors to stamp out the hurtful behaviour among youths and advise kids on what to do if they are targeted by bullies online.
In one advertisement featuring True Jackson, VP actress Ashley Argota, she says, "Sign off the computer; don’t reply to a hostile messenger; block bullies from access; make a copy of the message to show to an adult you trust." Nickelodeon’s campaign has been launched across the U.S. in connection with officials at advocacy group Common Sense Media.
The TV stars aren’t the only ones speaking out against bullying - celebrities including Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera and Cher have all issued public service announcements in recent months following a spate of school suicides in America linked to bullying last year (10).

RADCLIFFE’S MUSICAL DEBUT RECEIVES MIXED REVIEWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

DANIEL RADCLIFFE’s Broadway revival of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING has received mixed reviews following its official opening on Sunday (27Mar11).
The musical, based on the bestselling novel by Shepherd Mead, is about one man’s ambitions to climb the corporate ladder using a self-help book.
And the current Broadway run, starring the Harry Potter actor, has divided opinion among reviewers in the Big Apple.
The New York Times’ chief theatre critic Ben Brantley gives Radcliffe just "6 out of 10" but adds that the British actor "conscientiously hits his choreographic marks, speaks his lines quickly and distinctly (with a convincing American accent) and often sings on key".
Overall Brantley suggests the supporting cast, including John Larroquette, is "passable and generic", and insists the "only reason to see the show" is because of Radcliffe’s "effortfull (sic) performance".
Elisabeth Vincentelli, writing in the New York Post, calls Radcliffe "so adorable" in his musical debut that "you just want to pinch his cheeks".
But the New York Daily News reviewer was not as convinced, claiming Radcliffe "shows off a pleasant singing voice" but isn’t "animated enough" and "doesn’t quite succeed".

NORTON’S RAT ENCOUNTER AT CINEMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

EDWARD NORTON has lost interest in watching movies and plays in a theatre after a creepy experience with a rat left him squirming in his seat.
The American History X star headed out to a cinema near his home in New York City to watch Oscars sensation The King’s Speech but was stunned to see a vicious-looking rodent scarpering around the auditorium.
And he admits the unsettling experience has put him off watching films at a movie theatre because he feels more comfortable at home.
Norton tells Britain’s Guardian Guide magazine, "I’m not particularly precious about the theatrical experience any more. I still love it, but my experience equates with a lot of other people.
"I went to see The King’s Speech, and there’s been this plague of bed bugs in New York City, with people getting them off the movie theatre seats, so I was thinking about that and then a rat ran across the aisle! I sat there thinking, ‘I could be watching this at home!’"

BLUE AND THE WANTED IN BOYBANDS BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

British boybands BLUE and THE WANTED are embroiled in a war of words after outspoken singer LEE RYAN launched a bitter tirade at his newcomer rivals.
Ryan and his Blue bandmates Duncan James, Antony Costa and Simon Webbe split in 2005, but recently regrouped to represent Britain at the annual Eurovision Song Contest.
In the run-up to the event, Ryan took aim at Simon Cowell’s The X Factor and manufactured pop bands, especially hot new group The Wanted, who have enjoyed a string of top 10 singles and a hit album.
The singer said, "It’s been so boring without Blue. Bands like The Wanted are so dull. Don’t worry, Blue are back now." But The Wanted have quickly responded to the insult, with bandmember Tom Parker taking to Twitter.com to slam Ryan and Blue’s involvement in the much-mocked Eurovision competition.
He writes, "Dear Mr Ryan. I’m writing this message to say f**k you calling us "dull" in the paper today. I’m really excited to see you represent the UK at Eurovision this year. My thoughts, and more importantly MY PRAYERS, will be with you at this very difficult time."

FOO FIGHTERS HAILED BY AUSSIE POLITICIAN FOR FLOOD GIGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

The FOO FIGHTERS have been praised by a leading Australian politician after performing a gig Down Under to raise funds for victims of the country’s devastating floods earlier this year (11).
Dave Grohl’s band played a show in Auckland, New Zealand on 22 March (11) before jetting over to Brisbane, Australia to perform in the city’s Botanic Gardens on Sunday night (27Mar11).
The profits from the New Zealand show went straight to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, while tickets from Sunday’s show helped pay for part of Queensland’s clean-up effort.
And the state’s premier Anna Bligh thanked the rockers for their generosity after meeting the band backstage at the gig.
She said, "(Dave Grohl) said, ‘This is what I know how to do. I don’t know how to fix people’s roofs, but I know how to make music and make money.
"They wanted to speak about how many people were out of their homes… they are genuinely interested. They were wanting to help. Foo Fighters care about people who need help."

MINOGUE’S AGONY DURING CHILDBIRTH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

New mum DANNII MINOGUE has revealed why she abandoned plans for a home birth and opted for a Caesarean section in hospital - her baby ETHAN was in a painful position during labour.
The singer-turned-reality-TV judge had her heart set on a natural birth at her home in Melbourne, Australia but was taken to hospital to have the baby removed by surgeons after 20 hours of "excruciating pain".
And she has told of her relief when little Ethan was born healthy - because he had slipped into an awkward position as she prepared to deliver him.
In her upcoming memoirs, serialised in Britain’s Mail on Sunday, Minogue writes, "Typically for me, nothing about the birth went according to plan. For a start, Ethan arrived ten days early, and then we discovered he wasn’t in the correct position for a smooth delivery.
"So, after 20 hours of excruciating labour, my plans for a home birth went out of the window and I ended up having Ethan in hospital… But several hours into my labour my initial serenity had evaporated. Because Ethan was in a posterior position, meaning his back was in line with my back and his arms and legs were moving freely across my tummy, I was in absolute agony.
"(The midwives) have since told me how brave I was during those long hours of labour; but not having had a baby before I had no idea at the time whether it was bravery or delirium that saw me through… But when I held Ethan for the first time, the pain and worry melted away… It was wonderful." Minogue gave birth to Ethan, her son by her rugby player boyfriend Kris Smith, last July (10).

IRON MAIDEN CANCEL BRAZIL GIG OVER SAFETY FEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

IRON MAIDEN were forced to scrap a gig in Brazil on Sunday night (27Mar11) over fears their fans would not be safe.
The legendary rockers arrived at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday to find the safety barrier put in place to stop fans from storming the stage was not sufficiently sturdy, and the band’s reps decided to postpone the show until Monday night (28Mar11) to allow the venue’s bosses to address the issue.
A statement from concert promoter Evenpro says, "The IRON MAIDEN concert at HSBC Arena has been postponed to Monday, March, 28 due to technical problems with the barricade provided in front of the stage. This decision was taken by HSBC Arena in agreement with the band’s staff, because it’s their priority not to put fans’ safety in risk (sic).
"IRON MAIDEN will stay in Rio de Janeiro one more day to be able to make the show and not leave Rio de Janeiro out of this leg of ‘The Final Frontier Tour’. All the fans at (Sunday’s) concert must bring their ticket stub tomorrow to be allowed entry the concert. The band are naturally very sorry for any fans that can’t return tomorrow but promise a great and safe show tomorrow… for those who do." The promoter ensures fans who aren’t able to make the reschedule gig will receive a full refund.

SEINFELD RELISHED COURT BATTLE OVER CHEF’S LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

JERRY SEINFELD was disappointed when a judge threw out a "ridiculous" lawsuit against him - because he was looking forward to fighting "the system" like his hero LENNY BRUCE.
The funnyman was caught up in a legal battle after chef Missy Chase Lapine filed suit against him for mocking her during an appearance on David Letterman’s U.S. chat show in 2007.
Seinfeld was adamant his remarks were covered by free speech as detailed in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and he was relishing the prospect of a legal battle similar to legendary stand-up comedian Bruce’s clashes with authority in the 1960s over his obscenity-laden routines.
But the case was dismissed by a judge in New York last month (Feb11) because it was clear Seinfeld was joking during the TV interview.
He tells The Sunday Times Magazine, "(Lapine) sued me for defamation of character, which is, of course, ridiculous… But I really wanted to go to court. I wanted to invoke the First Amendment, have my Lenny Bruce moment, fight the system, say you can’t tell me what to say… Yeah (I enjoyed it). I felt edgy."

PINTO DEFENDS RACY MAGAZINE SHOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Actress FREIDA PINTO has defended her racy photoshoot for a men’s magazine, insisting it was her decision to pose for the pictures.
The Slumdog Millionaire star raised eyebrows last year (10) with a series of racy shots for the U.S. version of GQ, including several images of her sprawled across a bed in her underwear.
Gossips speculated that the photoshoot was a deliberate attempt to shake off her ‘nice-girl’ image - and Pinto has now spoken out to stress she was not manipulated into taking part.
She tells Britain’s You magazine, "The decision to do those pictures was mine. I definitely knew how I wanted to look. A stylist may have chosen the clothes but the decision to wear them was mine. I would hate to feel that I was being objectified.
"I have always said that a woman’s sexuality should not be used in a way that is demeaning to her. But, you know, I don’t think this is a sexist issue any more because actors are strutting their stuff in photoshoots just as much as actresses now."
