Actor HUGH LAURIE is "excited" about his new winter cold - because he has never had one before.
The House star insists he has baffled doctors for 50-plus years because he has never had a sniffle - but now he’s ill.
Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday (28Feb11), Laurie was visibly sick and explained, "It’s the first cold of my whole life.
"I’m excited about it because for so many years I believed that I didn’t get colds because, basically, nothing could live in this body. I was so addled with booze and cigarettes… but it appears I have curb appeal after all.
"I don’t know how I got it. The whole thing is so novel that I feel like I’ve sort of rejoined the human race… I’m hoping to string it out."

ANNE HATHAWAY was refused entry to an Oscars afterparty on Sunday night (27Feb11) - just minutes after she undertook presenting duties at the ceremony.
The actress co-hosted the 2011 Academy Awards with James Franco, and after the show ended, the beauty headed straight to the VIP Governors Ball in Los Angeles to celebrate.
But the strict doormen failed to recognise her after she forgot her invite, and she was forced to go to the venue’s ‘resolution desk’ to gain entry to the bash, according to New York Post gossip column Page Six.
A source tells the publication, "Anne couldn’t find her ticket. She was the Oscar host, and they still wouldn’t let her in. She was fumbling for her ticket, but security told her to step to the ‘resolution desk,’ where she had to explain who she was. Finally, they let her through."

Comedian STEVE HARVEY stunned his ex-wife this Valentine’s Day (11) by sending her a court summons concealed in a box of chocolates, according to a report.
The funnyman took out an injunction against Mary Lee Harvey last month (Feb11) after she accused him of cheating on her during their marriage.
In a series of videos posted on YouTube.com, she alleged the comic-turned-relationship guru left her homeless and "turned my son against me" after they split in 2005.
But Harvey, who denies her claims, seems determined to have the last laugh - Mary Lee tells TMZ.com that three days after Valentine’s Day (14Feb11), she was served "with a box of chocolates, a romantic card, and a notice saying you are going to be required to come back to court on March 10".

TV legend JOAN COLLINS was taken to hospital during the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party after her figure-hugging dress left her feeling faint.
The Dynasty star attended the magazine’s bash at Hollywood’s Sunset Tower Hotel in a tight-fitting lilac gown, but after mixing with A-listers for several hours, the 77 year old began to feel dizzy.
Her concerned husband Percy Gibson called an ambulance for his wife, and medics decided to rush the star to a nearby hospital for tests.
Collins was relieved when doctors gave her the all-clear - and blames her corseted dress for the fuss.
She tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "We had been there for seven hours, and I started feeling dizzy. I tried to get some air, but I felt really faint. I wanted to leave in our limo, but Percy decided to call an ambulance. We went to the hospital, and they did all the tests before the doctors told me I was absolutely fine and released me.
"The truth was, I made the wrong decision to wear a very tight dress, and had something rather like a Victorian swoon. The good news is, I am in good health and feel fine today."

Jewish actress NATALIE PORTMAN has taken time out from celebrating her Oscars triumph to publicly slam JOHN GALLIANO after a video emerged of the fashion designer admitting his "love" for Nazi tyrant ADOLF HITLER.
The style guru was arrested last week (24Feb11) after he allegedly hurled racist insults at a couple drinking in a Parisian bar.
He was released without charge but was suspended by bosses at fashion house Christian Dior, where he is head designer, while further police investigations took place.
Galliano’s lawyer, Stephane Zerbib, denied the claims, and revealed that the star is planning to sue the couple for defamation. But the flamboyant couturier faced further scandal on Monday (28Feb11) with the release of a new video which apparently shows him lashing out at another group of drinkers at the same bar, telling them, "I love Hitler".
Now Best Actress Oscar winner Portman, who is currently the face of Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, has taken aim at Galliano - insisting she will no longer have anything to do with the shamed designer.
She says in a statement, "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful." The designer attended a Paris prosecutor’s office on Monday (28Feb11) and denied all the allegations, according to the Associated Press.

VANESSA HUDGENS is reportedly dating actor JOSH HUTCHERSON following her December (10) split from ZAC EFRON.

SALMA HAYEK has finally settled into her new role as a fully-fledged housewife after spending the early years of her courtship with FRANCOIS-HENRI PINAULT fighting against the idea.
The Frida actress was a big Hollywood star when she met the French businessman and entrepreneur in 2006 and they became engaged after a whirlwind romance.
But Hayek, who wed Pinault in 2009, admits she was firmly against the thought of leaving Hollywood behind to start a new life in Paris, because she was convinced she would hate spending all her time indoors.
She tells the New York Times Style magazine, "The first thing I panicked about was moving. I got scared. I said, ‘I’m not moving to Paris to be a housewife.’ And he said, ‘Fine, we’ll be different.’ It’s sort of exciting to have a different kind of marriage.
"He knew I was going to end up here (in Paris), but he said the right thing! Before I knew it I was spending most of my time here, and I love it." Hayek has now fully embraced her duties as a wife and mother to their three-year-old daughter Valentina and admits she revels in being the perfect housewife.
She says, "I am a housewife. Do you cook every night for your husband? I do. I am most definitely a housewife. And a good one, I must say! "He’s very low-key. Our life is great and glamorous in many ways, and in many ways - in the good ways - it’s very homey."

CHARLIE SHEEN was admitted to hospital for hernia treatment after he shunned prescribed medication and downed vodka to ease his pain.
A wild night of partying in January (11) ended in a 911 drama for Sheen after he complained of abdominal pain, stemming from a hernia.
The star reveals he had refused to take drugs prescribed to him by a doctor for the condition and instead turned to alcohol to blot out the pain - which resulted in his hospitalisation.
He tells CNN chat show host Piers Morgan, "The reason it went bad is because I don’t do pills… I don’t do any of that nonsense.
"I had this hernia thing that was popping out, it was gross - the pain was like someone was driving a hot sabre through my gut. And because I won’t take a pain pill, because those things are like ‘wow!’, I maybe hit the vodka a little too hard to reduce the pain. That was the final push, that final drop down the falls. I guess somebody decided to call 911."

CHARLIE SHEEN has lashed out at the writers of his TV hit TWO AND A HALF MEN once again - accusing them of ripping off his wild lifestyle to use in storylines.
The troubled star has launched several vicious rants against the series’ creator Chuck Lorre, prompting CBS network producers to axe the programme for the remainder of its current season - but that hasn’t stopped him speaking out once again.
In an bizarre interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, he branded writers’ material "juvenile and gross", before accusing them of using his own personal issues as inspiration for plotlines.
He says, "When I first look at the writing, I look at a lot of the stuff they were already getting away with… There’s always a pee pee or a butt or a poo poo joke… in ways that they make you see things or feel imagery, it’s just juvenile and gross. I don’t think it comes close - I think it eclipses - some of the stuff I’m doing out there on my most epic nights.
"It’s ok to smoke cigars, just not cigarettes… it’s ok to drink tons of vodka but don’t go near cocaine.
"I think that they in some way think they have some magic literary influence over me by perhaps writing things and going, ‘Oh my God, look how powerful we are, now he’s doing it!’ "No, moron, the reason the show was created was ‘cos the lifestyle I had, you guys based it on it. I gave you so much of your fodder already."

THE KING’S SPEECH director TOM HOOPER’s big Oscars win was bittersweet - because he had to pick up his prize from HILARY SWANK.
The moviemaker suffered pangs of guilt as the double Oscar winner took to the stage at the Kodak Theatre to present the Best Director award - because he suddenly remembered he hadn’t replied to an email she sent him.
The Brit says, "She sent me a lovely email a couple of months ago and I thought, ‘Oh my God, I never replied to it!’ "So when I got up on the stage, I kissed her hello and I said, ‘I’m so sorry, I forgot to reply to your lovely email. Thank you’. She said, ‘I can’t believe you’re using the Kodak Theatre, winning the Oscar, to tell me that.’"

LISA MARIE PRESLEY has quit her $12 million (£8 million) estate in England after failing to adapt to the country lifestyle, according to a U.K. report.
The singer has lived in California since her father Elvis passed away in 1977, but last year (10) she put her five-bedroom ranch up for sale at just under $9 million (£6 million).
She then purchased a home in the quiet town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, reportedly because of its vicinity to East Grinstead, Sussex, where Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard settled in 1959 after moving from the U.S. The star is a devout Scientologist.
However, Presley has decided to leave the sprawling estate and move back to America, according to Britain’s The Sun.
A source tells the publication, "Lisa Marie thought she’d love life in England but simply couldn’t settle. She wanted to get away from Hollywood but ended up missing it. Although she enjoyed the scenery in Kent, the lifestyle wasn’t for her. It’s not rock ‘n’ roll enough."

JUSTIN BIEBER is appealing to his fans to donate money to charity to mark his 17th birthday on Tuesday (01Mar11).
The Baby hitmaker is forgoing gifts from his devoted fanbase in a bid to raise cash for Charity: Water, a non-profit organisation bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
In a post on his fundraising page, he writes, "I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream. So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I’m asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change.
"Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease? By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this! 100% of all donations go directly to building clean water projects in developing countries with charity: water, and we’ll be able to see photos and GPS of the projects we helped build! I want to make my birthday matter this year - let’s make it so more kids can grow up to have a 17th birthday like me. Join me to make a change.
"I’m really so grateful for my family, friends and fans - and I believe we can do something big to help bring clean water to people in need. Even if you don’t have $17 to give I just ask you to go out in your community and try and make a positive difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way." Rocker DAVE PAJO has quit INTERPOL less than a year after replacing bassist CARLOS DENGLER.
Dengler parted ways with the band last May (10) after the completion of its self-titled fourth record and Pajo subsequently joined the line-up.
However, he’s decided to leave the group to spend more time with his family - and his bandmembers are fully supportive of his decision.
The remaining members - Paul Banks, Dan Kessler and Sam Fogarino - say in a statement, "We’re all friends. It’s just an out-of-the-hotel, into-the-home sorta thing. He’s going to be missed to be sure. Aside from being an exceptional musician, Pajo is a wonderful person to be around." Pajo has been replaced by Brad Truax, who has previously played with Home and Jah Division.

Rapper KID CUDI has parted ways with his label after admitting he and his record company bosses have "different visions" of how his music should sound.
The Day ‘N Nite hitmaker recently revealed he is ready to launch a rock career because he no longer feels "passionate" about writing hip-hop songs.
And now he’s stepped away from the Dream On record label and split from managers Patrick Reynolds and Emile Haynie in a bid to realise his creative dream.

British pop star SINITTA called on ex-lover SIMON COWELL to help her when she was diagnosed with a tumour - and he insisted on taking her and her mother to Hong Kong to recover from the awful news.
The singer recently underwent emergency surgery after doctors discovered she had a growth in her stomach, and she has since been given the all-clear - but the So Macho star admits there was a moment when she feared the worst.
Sinitta has now opened up about her diagnosis, revealing news of a tumour was the last thing she expected to hear when she saw a medic following a busy 2010, working on Cowell’s reality show The X Factor.
She tells Britain’s Star magazine, "I’d been feeling exhausted at the end of last year… and couldn’t seem to get well.
"I have a medical every year, so when I came back from holiday I went for my check-up, and it was then they discovered something and I was sent for an MRI scan.
"They realised it was a tumour and (it) was wrapped around my stomach and spine, towards my bowel." And she reveals close pal Cowell was shocked when she revealed her health diagnosis to him, and insisted on taking her to Hong Kong, where her ex-husband Andy Wilner lives, to focus on her recovery.
The star adds, "He was quite flabbergasted. And then I just started talking about other things that I was worried about and he said: ‘Let’s just focus on this for the moment’, and told me to forget everything else and concentrate on getting well.
"So that was it, it was just my mother, Simon and my ex-husband Andy in Hong Kong." Sinitta insists it was important for her ex-husband to be part of the health drama because "I needed to tell him in case he had to look after the children." Sinitta shares two adopted kids, Zac and Magdalena, with Wilner.

Country sweetheart MIRANDA LAMBERT has axed her upcoming tour of Australia after falling ill with a respiratory infection.
The singer was due to support Alan Jackson on his tour Down Under from Friday (04Mar11), but she’s cancelled her appearances on doctors’ orders.

KINGS OF LEON star MATTHEW FOLLOWILL is set to become a first-time father - his wife is six months pregnant, according to a U.K. report.
The rocker and his songwriter partner Johanna Bennett are expecting their first baby together, which is due in late spring (11), reports Britain’s The Sun.
A source tells the publication, "Although Jo and Matt haven’t made any announcement it’s well known among her friends that they’re having a child.
"They are both absolutely thrilled and can’t wait to become a proper family. They don’t know what they’re having but don’t mind either way.
