SIR ELTON SLAMS DISNEY FOR SHUNNING GNOMEO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:32 pm

SIR ELTON JOHN has taken aim at Disney bosses for resisting his plans for GNOMEO & JULIET and failing to throw their full support behind the animated movie.
The singer spent more than 10 years trying to convince executives to greenlight the project, which is based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as the star-crossed lovers in gnome form.
The 3D family favourite has gone on to top the U.S. box office, but Sir Elton is convinced it would have been even more successful with the support of everyone at Disney.
He tells Canada’s Marilyn Denis Show, "We fought resistance from the (Disney) studio for so long, and to be honest with you, the film has taken $75 million in America, and we haven’t had a message of congratulations from anyone within the studio.
"Gnomeo & Juliet took us 11 years to make. We defied all the odds and all of the people at Disney who said this wouldn’t be a hit. And it’s the biggest hit, but it could have been a bigger hit if Disney got behind it more.
"They’re so ashamed, and they should be ashamed of themselves - they’re so afraid to congratulate us because John Lasseter of Pixar did not want us to make this movie that we still haven’t had a message of congratulations or well done."

MCFADDEN GIVING SONG PROFITS TO DATE RAPE CHARITY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

Irish singer BRIAN MCFADDEN is pledging the profits of his latest single to charity after he was accused of singing about date rape in the track.
The former Westlife star came under fire after singing about taking "advantage" and doing "some damage" to an intoxicated girl in Just The Way You Are (Drunk At The Bar), which critics branded "disgusting and wrong".
McFadden, who is engaged to Australian singer Delta Goodrem, was quick to explain that the song was written about appreciating his fiancee’s tipsy dancing.
Now the pop star is hoping to make amends for the controversy by donating any earnings to an organisation supporting date rape victims.
In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "(I) feel sick that my single is getting so much attention for the wrong reason. I love making music but I do not want this song played on radio or being sold to profit myself if people think it’s about ‘date rape’. It’s not about date rape.
"I’m gonna give all my profits from the song to victims of rape because it disgusts me. Sorry people misunderstood my lyrics… And finally… My song is supposed to be fun… not offensive… Guess not everyone has the same sense of humour."

GALLAGHER BLASTS RADIOHEAD IN EXPLETIVE-STREWN RANT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

Rock wildman LIAM GALLAGHER has aimed a foul-mouthed rant at RADIOHEAD, accusing the band of writing about "a thousand year old tree" on their new album.
The Creep hitmakers surprised fans last month (Feb11) with the sudden release of their eighth record, The King of Limbs, which is named after a famous ancient oak in England’s Savernake Forest.
But Gallagher has mocked the band’s choice of inspiration in an expletive-strewn rant, telling them: "Go f**k yourself." The furious Beady Eye frontman tells TheQuietus.com, "I heard that f**king Radiohead record and I just go, ‘What?!’… I like to think that what we do, we do f**king well. Them writing a song about a f**king tree? Give me a f**king break! A thousand year old tree? Go f**k yourself!… You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?"

The young couple shared an intimate meal at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (01Mar11), but sparked rumours the evening did not go as planned when they were later pictured scowling as they left the eaterie.
Now another image from the evening has emerged suggesting Bieber is growing up fast - he’s shown sitting in his car and flicking his middle finger at snappers as Gomez shields her face.

LUMLEY AND RICHARDSON JOIN WOMEN’S RIGHTS CAMPAIGN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

British actresses JOANNA LUMLEY and MIRANDA RICHARDSON are among stars who have spoken out to support women’s rights in a new public service announcement.
Former Bond girl Lumley and Oscar nominee Richardson signed up to take part in anti-poverty charity ActionAid’s Get Lippy campaign, which highlights inequality around the globe.
They were joined by singers Beverley Knight and Sophie Ellis-Bextor in a promo clip celebrating women’s rights, which was filmed to mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on 8 March (11).
Lumley says, "I have travelled in all kinds of countries so I know some of the terrible disadvantages women have been struggling under and continue to struggle under all across the world. I want them to know that we are going to help, we are there for you.
"It’s obvious what women are best at. Multi-tasking, we are genetically able to multi-task - men can’t do that. What’s worst? The way we have been discriminated against in all religions and in all societies throughout all time." Richardson adds, "Women have amazing imagination in just about any situation."

FIELD PRAISES GALLIANO AFTER DIOR FIRING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

SEX AND THE CITY stylist PATRICIA FIELD has defended JOHN GALLIANO after he was filmed making anti-Semitic remarks, insisting the video footage is a "farce".
The disgraced designer was fired by bosses at Christian Dior on Tuesday (01Mar11) following his arrest for allegedly hurling anti-Semitic and racist abuse at a couple in Paris, France. He was also caught on tape declaring his "love" for Adolf Hitler.
Field is outraged that the fashion world has turned its back on the couturier, and she’s offered her support in a message entitled In Praise Of John Galliano, posted on her Facebook.com page.
She writes, "Beauty, intelligence and energy would describe John as I know him. Where in this trilogy could one find hate? I ask you! My second question is… What exactly did he say? And the third is… What is really going on here??" And in an interview with WWD.com, Field maintains Galliano’s behaviour in the video is a "farce".
She adds, "People in fashion all they do is go and see John Galliano theatre every season. That’s what he gives them. To me, this was the same except it wasn’t in a theatre or in a movie. John lives in theatre. It’s theatre. It’s farce. But people in fashion don’t recognise the farce in it.
"All of a sudden they don’t know him. But it’s OK when it’s Mel Brooks’ The Producers singing Springtime for Hitler."

The star’s son Paul tells the BBC, "He did pass out and as a precaution he was taken to hospital to be looked at. I’ve just spoken to him in hospital. He seemed absolutely fine but obviously something happened and we need to establish what, but I’m on my way to see him right now. I should think he’ll just be checked over and hopefully it will be nothing more sinister than that."

SHEEN ‘SURRENDERS SONS TO POLICE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:32 pm

CHARLIE SHEEN lost custody of his two sons on Tuesday (01Mar11) - just hours after his estranged wife BROOKE MUELLER won a restraining order against the troubled actor.
Sheen was forced to temporarily surrender his 23-month-old twins, Bob and Max, to police who visited his Beverly Hills mansion, reports People.com.
He later took to Twitter.com to assure followers his little boys were OK, writing: "My sons are fine… My path is now clear… Defeat is not an option..!" The latest turn in Sheen’s personal woes came after Mueller obtained an emergency restraining order against the actor, alleging he was abusive to her.
In court documents, she stated, "I am very concerned that (Sheen) is currently insane. I am in great fear that he will find me and attack me and I am in great fear for the children’s safety while in his care." Mueller also accused Sheen of taking the boys from her residence last week (26Feb11) and threatening to "cut your head off, put it in a box and send it to your mom" when she to get them back.
Sheen is now banned from being within 100 yards of Mueller and the children.
Their marriage began unravelling after a Christmas Day bust-up in 2009, which landed the Two and a Half Men star behind bars and eventually led to an assault charge.
They began proceedings to officially end their two-year marriage in November (10).
Both are due in court for a hearing on 22 March (11) to determine whether the restraining order will be extended.

WINSLET TREASURES OSCAR AFTER LIFETIME OF LOSING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:29 pm

KATE WINSLET treasures the Oscar she was handed for her role in THE READER, insisting the trophy makes up for "all the prizes" she missed out on winning as a youngster.
The British beauty was honoured with a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of a naive Nazi guard in the 2008 movie.
Winslet had previously been nominated five times as both a Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress - but had never won.
And she admits she had become familiar with losing out on prizes.
The Titanic star tells America’s Glamour magazine, "I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn’t on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn’t me.
"So winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal fist-pumping moment of ‘yes’."

MOVIE BOSSES PAY FORTUNE TO FREE RADCLIFFE FOR POTTER PROMOS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:29 pm

Bosses at Warner Bros. have reportedly paid out half a million dollars to ensure DANIEL RADCLIFFE is free to promote the final HARRY POTTER movie later this year (11).
The second installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is due to open in London in July (11), but the film’s star Radcliffe is signed up to appear in this year’s revival of Broadway play How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
It means the actor might not have been available to fulfil promotion duties for the closing chapter in the wizard franchise - so Warners chiefs have reportedly stitched up a deal to "buy" the Hirschfeld Theatre, where the play is staged, for up to five nights to keep Radcliffe free.
A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "This is the final film, so it’s a big deal. A grand world premiere is being planned as well as a U.S. premiere and a press tour. They absolutely couldn’t do it without their big star. But the theatre producers dug their heels in and said they wouldn’t release Radcliffe unless Warner bought out the entire theater for the nights they need him.
"Studio bosses are furious, but they have no choice but to pay up for five nights costing over $500,000." A spokesman for Radcliffe tells the publication, "Everything is fine, Dan is promoting the film and is happy to do so. With all productions there are scheduling issues but everything has all been worked out. Warner Bros. is very supportive of Dan, and there is no issue."

Wood says, "He was a good friend of mine, very protective. My mother used to like him - very polite boy.
"He’d be causing severe damage one side of the room then serving my mother brandy with his smoking jacket on the other side of the wall.
"One hell of a hellraising, all over the place drummer. He couldn’t keep a beat… bit like his personality. Instead of taking one pill he’d take a hundred."
