DE NIRO CREW MEMBER CHEATS DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

A crew member working on ROBERT DE NIRO’s new movie cheated death when a huge steel beam speared a vehicle he was travelling in, missing his head by inches.
Mike Prisco was scouting potential locations in New York for Another Bulls**t Night In Suck City on Wednesday (02Mar11) when a 20-foot (six metre) long metal girder fell from a nearby building.
The beam smashed through the roof of Prisco’s truck, narrowly missing his head.
He tells the New York Post, "I feel very lucky. I almost died. I was on the phone with the locations manager, and I heard a loud bang and jumped up. I thought I was rear-ended and I got out, and I saw a beam sticking out of my roof." Another Bulls**t Night In Suck City is due to begin filming in the Big Apple later this month (Mar11).

MINOGUE BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS ON TV

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

KYLIE MINOGUE cut short an Australian TV interview at the weekend (26-27Feb11) after breaking down in tears during a chat about cancer.
The singing superstar this week (beg28Feb11) celebrated five years all-clear since her battle with breast cancer, but proved the memory of her illness is still raw during a recording of The Morning Show on Sunday night (27Feb11).
Minogue became tearful as she described visiting a children’s hospital ward when she was ill, telling TV host Molly Meldrum, "I was talking to some parents across the other side of a bed and their child was there. I was saying the things that I would normally say in that situation, just making conversation with the child, with the parents, giving them some support as well, and then they really caught me off guard. They just eyeballed me and said ‘How are you, and we hope you get through it’ and it’s like…" The Spinning Around star struggled to speak and became so upset she fled the studio to compose herself, explaining on her return, "The reason that that gets me is… the humanity of it and there’s certain moments where that really cuts through."

FRANCO AND TAYLOR-WOOD SET FOR R.E.M. PROJECT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:23 pm

MICHAEL STIPE has recruited JAMES FRANCO and SAM TAYLOR-WOOD to create short films to accompany the highly-anticipated new R.E.M. album, COLLAPSE INTO NOW.
Franco and Taylor-Wood have signed up to direct clips inspired by different songs on the record for Stipe’s Collapse Into Now Film Project.
The rocker hand-picked both the actor and the Nowhere Man director for his latest effort, and admits he gave them "free rein" to do whatever they liked with his tracks.
He tells NME.com, "I went to people I really wanted to work with and I could trust them to do whatever they wanted. They had absolute free rein. In many instances I was surprised, in many instances I got what I wanted. What I wanted wasn’t primarily important though, what was important was to trust the directors with something as precious as a brand new song.
"It was really fun for me to curate, working with all these different artists, and seeing how they interpreted the songs. The thing that was surprising is how much they interlockingly work, like an album.
"It was a way of presenting the idea of an album in 2011, beyond a music fan’s idea of an album 20 years ago. The way technology is right now, it’s possible to present something in any way you want to. I basically wanted to explore the idea of what is an album, and how do we present it with everything that we have available."

BARAT SILENCES LIBERTINES GLASTONBURY GIG GOSSIP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:23 pm

British rocker CARL BARAT has denied reports his cult band THE LIBERTINES will be returning to the music scene to play at Britain’s Glastonbury festival in June (11).
The group, which includes troubled musician Pete Doherty in its line-up, reformed in 2010 after six years apart to play a comeback gig at the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festivals, much to the excitement of fans.
The musicians were rumoured to be planning another rare appearance at Glastonbury - the country’s most famous music event - this summer (11), but Barat has silenced the reports by insisting he and Doherty are too busy on their own projects to perform.
However, the rocker is refusing to rule out another reunion in the future.
He tells Britain’s Daily Star, "Getting back together at Reading and Leeds was more than I could ever imagine and made me understand and realise what an impact the band had on a generation.
"In time I would do it again but Pete Doherty and I are busy doing other things. It’s definitely not over."

MCGRAW AND HILL HONOURED FOR CHARITY WORK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:23 pm

TIM MCGRAW and FAITH HILL received an award for their tireless charity work at a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday (02Mar11).
The country couple was presented with the Country Radio Broadcasters’ Artist Humanitarian Award for their fundraising efforts, at the annual Country Radio Seminar at the Nashville Convention Center.
They were handed the prize by last year’s (10) winner, country singer Trace Adkins, and honoured for the founding of their charity, Neighbor’s Keeper, and their work to help other causes including raising funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and flood relief efforts in Tennessee.
As she accepted the prize, Hill said, "Being honoured for our humanitarian work, while incredibly humbling, is also bittersweet for us because it comes at the expense of others who are suffering through hard times. People just like us - with families, brothers, sisters, children and friends - need our help. People with or without homes, with or without jobs, with or without families, the fact is that uncontrollable and unforeseen disasters are not discriminating." McGraw adds, "It sounds like a cliche at the end of the day… but we do think that we are better people for it. We know we are better people for it. We’ve been inspired and enlightened… The courage, the grit, the determination of those in need and those who are helping each other are always awe-inspiring to us. And that’s what we dedicate this award to - people who help each other." Country duo The Judds was honoured with the Country Radio Broadcasters’ career achievement award earlier in the week (01Mar11).

SEYFRIED: ‘MAMMA MIA! SEQUEL WILL NEVER HAPPEN’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:20 pm

AMANDA SEYFRIED is adamant a MAMMA MIA! sequel will never make it to the big screen because script writers have nowhere to take the story.
The ABBA stage show became a box office phenomenon when it was transformed into a 2008 film, overtaking Grease as the world’s top-earning movie musical after pulling in a mammoth $600 million (£400 million) in global ticket sales.
Following the film’s success, Seyfried admitted she spread rumours of a sequel around Hollywood because she was desperate to return to her role as lovestruck Sophie.
But now the actress has conceded she will never play the part again - as film bosses would struggle to put together a new installment.
She tells Britain’s Marie Claire magazine, "F**k no! That’s never gonna happen. Like, what would they do? What would they write about? How would they get all the actors back?"

YALE WRITER: ‘NO FEUD WITH FRANCO’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:20 pm

A writer for Yale University’s newspaper has shrugged off a perceived feud with JAMES FRANCO after the actor appeared to lash out at her.
The 127 Hours star took aim at the student publication by posting a photo of himself in a car with the words ‘F**K THE YALE DAILY NEWS’ on his Twitter.com page.
The outburst was in response to 20-year-old Cokey Cohen, who sent him the message, "Your Twitter sort of sucks," while she was blogging for the Yale Daily News about Franco’s Oscars co-hosting duties on Sunday (27Feb11).
But Cohen insists she was only poking fun at Franco’s novice attempts at updating his Twitter feed.
She tells the New Haven Register, "My tone is tongue-in-cheek. I would usually never berate someone for tweeting inadequately, because that would be hypocritical - but James Franco is not just some rando (random person) on Twitter.
"He’s a Celebrity Tweeter, which deserves all caps and necessitates a higher quality of meaningless, incessant electronic communication." Cohen is an English major at Yale, where Franco is pursuing a doctorate.

PATRIC KEEPS FATHER’S ASHES ON STAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

JASON PATRIC stays close to his late father by keeping the playwright’s ashes on stage with him while he stars in a new production of his dad’s most famous work.
The actor is currently appearing in a Broadway revival of That Championship Season, written by his late father Jason Miller, opposite Kiefer Sutherland and Chris Noth.
Patric admits he has an unusual way of retaining a link to his father, who died in 2001, while he tackles the emotional task of acting in the play - he keeps his ashes on stage during performances.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I do have his ashes up there. I thought the old man should be up there with us. I feel in some ways, when I’m doing this, I’m in communion with him, opening up to that vulnerability, that wound." A spokesperson for the show adds to the New York Post, "The ashes of Jason Miller are kept in an urn onstage in a bookcase. They have never been sprinkled on stage. They are kept in the urn."

ROONEY: ‘STEPSON SOLD MY OSCAR’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:17 pm

Hollywood veteran MICKEY ROONEY has blasted his stepson for allegedly taking his honorary Oscar statuette and selling it off for his own financial gain.
The Babes on Broadway star won a restraining order against Christopher Aber and his wife last month (Feb11) amid claims his stepson has been attempting to convince the actor to sign over control of his assets, leaving the 90 year old fearing for his safety.
Rooney’s experiences have prompted him to lead the charge against elderly abuse and he appeared before a Senate committee in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (02Mar11), urging politicians to create new laws to protect the aged.
He told the committee he felt "scared, disappointed… and angry" when Aber took control of his affairs, accusing his stepson and his wife of abusing him emotionally and financially.
Rooney claims Aber took a number of his personal items - including the star’s treasured Academy Award, which he received in 1983 in recognition of his 50 years in the movie industry.
In an interview on America’s Today Show, the ageing actor admits he suffered in silence for years because he was embarrassed.
He says, "As a man (I was embarrassed to speak out); our individuality was taken away from us. Our personal things, things that meant everything to us were gone. And he even sold my Oscar…" But when he finally did speak out against Aber, Rooney felt abandoned: "It seemed that no one wanted to believe me." Aber has denied all allegations of abuse. In a statement issued to the Today show, his representative says, "Allegations that Chris Aber threatens, intimidates, harasses, yells and screams at Mr. Rooney are false." Rooney’s calls to Congress appeared to be heard loud and clear - after the hearing, committee chairman Senator Herb Kohl introduced legislation that would create an Office of Elder Justice to help co-ordinate law enforcement response to chronic abuse of the aged.

LONDON’S ACCUSED KIDNAPPER ACCEPTS PLEA DEAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:17 pm

Actor JEREMY LONDON feels "vindication" after the man who was accused of kidnapping him pleaded guilty to felony false imprisonment on Wednesday (02Mar11).
Brandon Adams was accused of kidnapping the star last June (10) after he and his friends offered to help the actor change a flat tyre on his car.
The 27 year old has accepted a plea deal, admitting to lesser charges of felony false imprisonment and a misdemeanour charge of vehicle theft.
Adams was sentenced to 16 months behind bars but he had already served nine months and was given credit for double that time.
Former Party of Five star London admits he felt relieved by the outcome after his own mum and brother questioned the validity of his story, citing previous substance abuse.
London told the Palm Springs Desert Sun after the hearing, "It’s vindication in a way. It’s proof that I’ve been telling the truth the whole time. An innocent person doesn’t plead guilty." But the actor admits the case is not fully resolved, insisting Adams was not the member of the alleged kidnapping team who wielded the gun.
He adds, "We’ve never claimed that Brandon Adams was the one that put the gun to my head. The gunman is still out there."

SHEEN’S MANAGER DEFENDS STAR AGAINST ANTI-SEMITIC TEXT CLAIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:35 pm

CHARLIE SHEEN’s manager has defended him against BROOKE MUELLER’s allegations the star sent her an anti-Semitic text message detailing how he wanted to "execute" his longtime representative.
Sheen’s estranged wife obtained an emergency restraining order against the troubled actor on Tuesday (01Mar11) after she was refused physical custody of the couple’s twin sons in an ongoing court battle.
In legal papers, Mueller claimed she feared for her safety, as well as that of her two kids, after Sheen had reportedly threatened her, and according to the New York Daily News, she also alleged he sent her a text message branding his manager Mark Burg a "stooped jew pig".
But Burg has refused to believe his embattled client would write such an insult - because his entire team, including recently resigned publicist Stan Rosenfeld, are Jewish.
Burg tells the publication, "We’ve managed Charlie for 12 or 13 years, and I don’t think it’s a text that he would ever send.
"Charlie Sheen’s entertainment lawyer Jake Bloom is Jewish. Charlie Sheen’s litigation attorney Marty Singer is Jewish. Charlie Sheen’s (former) publicist Stan Rosenfeld is Jewish. Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife is Jewish, as are his two boys Bob and Max." Sheen and Mueller split following a Christmas Day fight in 2009, for which the actor received a stint behind bars and an assault charge.

MIRREN AGAINST READING SHAKESPEARE AT SCHOOL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:32 pm

DAME HELEN MIRREN is convinced children shouldn’t be introduced to Shakespeare’s work in the classroom, insisting the classic plays need to be seen to be appreciated.
The actress has performed in several productions of the playwright’s works and has even graced the stage with Britain’s renowned Royal Shakespeare Company.
Mirren has gone back to the Bard once again with a starring role in Julie Taymor’s new big screen adaptation of The Tempest, and the Oscar-winner is adamant she would prefer kids to see Shakespeare’s plays performed by actors, instead of labouring over his texts.
She tells Britain’s Daybreak TV show, "Honestly, I don’t think kids should be made to read Shakespeare at all. I think children’s very first experience of Shakespeare should be a performance in the theatre or on film. Mostly in the theatre but it should be performed because that makes it alive and real…
"The great thing about doing Shakespeare on film (is that) in 20 years’ time when Avatar is - don’t get me wrong, I think it was a groundbreaking, brilliant film - but it will be kind of old hat. The Tempest will be watched as fresh in 20 years’ time as it is (for) anyone watching it tonight. I watched Shakespeare plays on film. They bring people to Shakespeare in a very exciting and real and much easier way than having to sit reading the play."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:32 pm

At the end of her visit, the Oscar-winner released a statement calling for help for the millions of refugees who are struggling to survive in Afghanistan.
She says, "The focus needs to be put now on reintegration and that means not just putting up shelter but making sure there is water, job opportunities, a school for the children and medical clinics."

MICHAELS CONVINCED HE’D LOSE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE DUE TO SICKNESS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:29 pm

BRET MICHAELS was so convinced he’d lost the 2010 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE contest, he began plotting "mean" insults to hurl at DONALD TRUMP before the winner was announced.
The Poison star had to pull out of the show when he first fell ill in April (10) to undergo an emergency appendectomy. Doctors then diagnosed bleeding on the brain and for five days he fought for his life at a hospital in Arizona.
During his recuperation he suffered a mini stroke and was subsequently found to have a hole in the heart, but jetted to New York for the finale in May (10).
However, he felt the trip was a wasted journey - because he was sure Trump would pick fellow finalist Holly Robinson Peete to triumph.
He tells Piers Morgan Tonight, "You know what I was thinking… when you get in there and you’re going through tasks and winning and then fighting, not fighting, with people that you befriend, eventually you’re gonna go head-to-head if you survive that long. I was sitting there thinking I’ve been really, really sick…
"I was sat looking over at Trump and thinking, he started with her (Robinson Peete)… and I thought I had lost. He has a pattern (of winners). I was going, ‘I flew all the way out here almost dead and I’m gonna lose here in front of America.’" Michaels admits he was secretly plotting what to say to Trump after he lost the contest - and was stunned when he was revealed as the victor.
He adds, "I was mad - in my head I was already thinking of mean things to say to him. I was staring him down and all of a sudden he goes, ‘You won!’"
