MCFLY PERFORM WITHOUT POYNTER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

British pop stars MCFLY have refused to let DOUGIE POYNTER’s admission to rehab halt their promotional duties - they performed on U.K. TV on Monday morning (07Mar11) without the bassist.
Vocalist/guitarist Tom Fletcher confirmed at the weekend (05-06Mar11) that Poynter has checked into a clinic to deal with personal issues, believed to be linked to his split from The Saturdays star Frankie Sandford last year (10).
But the group is forging ahead with promotional duties for their new single That’s The Truth and they appeared as a three-piece on U.K. TV show Daybreak on Monday, with Fletcher filling in for Poynter on bass.
In a post on his Twitter.com page before the show, Fletcher wrote, "Yep, I’m on bass again for Daybreak. Way too early to be singing!"

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

British DJ-turned-actor GOLDIE questioned his parenting skills after his son was convicted of murder, but he refuses to blame himself for the tragedy.
The star was devastated when Jamie Price was jailed for life in England in September (10) for the brutal slaying of a rival gang member.
Former James Bond actor Goldie was so stunned by the incident that he queried whether he was to blame - until an apology from Jamie made him realise he’s not responsible for his children’s choices.
He tells The New Review, "With my son Jamie, while I asked myself, was I doing things right as a father, ultimately he made those decisions, that’s his journey. After it happened, he phoned me to say, ‘Dad, I’m so sorry this happened.’"

LOVATO SPEAKS OUT ABOUT REHAB TREATMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

DEMI LOVATO has broken her silence about the personal problems which forced her to seek treatment in rehab, calling the last few months the "darkest time" of her life and revealing she "wouldn’t be here today" without the support of her fans.
The Disney singer/actress shocked the showbiz world by quitting her tour with the Jonas Brothers back in October (10) and checking into a treatment centre to address "emotional and physical issues".
It subsequently emerged one of her backing dancers, Alex Welch, had accused the star of lashing out at her in an altercation on a plane. A legal dispute with Welsh was settled in December (10).
Lovato left rehab in January (11) but was spotted seeking further counselling by attending a meeting at the New Journey Eating Disorder Center in California.
The 18 year old has not spoken publicly for the last few months, but she’s now reached out to fans to address her demons.
In a video message posted on her Facebook.com page, she says, "I wanted to let you know that I am back and home… I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the support you guys have given me along the way… Your support is what got me through this…
"The journey that I’ve been on has been very difficult over the past few months. I was dealing with issues that I know not only girls just my age but of all ages are dealing with.
"I can’t tell you how much light you guys brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be here today."

SPACEK SINGS WITH DAUGHTER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

SISSY SPACEK has shown off her musical talents by singing back-up vocals for her musician daughter.
The actress’ daughter, Schuyler Fisk, recently released her second record Blue Ribbon Winner and she’s now revealed her famous mother contributed to her debut, 2009’s The Good Stuff, and even joined her on stage for a performance.
But Fisk admits the Carrie star was too shy to sing in front of the crowd, so she joined in from backstage.
Fisk tells the Boston Herald, "She actually sang some harmonies on my last record, but gets too nervous to come on stage with me. During one show, I asked her to come up on stage to sing, but she wouldn’t, so she sang backstage! So there was this phantom high harmony coming from the wings. The audience thought I was probably singing to a track…"

JONES RULES OUT KELLY ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

MAD MEN star JANUARY JONES has ruled out ever portraying GRACE KELLY in a movie biopic - she’s convinced it would destroy her career.
The actress has frequently been compared to the legendary Hollywood beauty but she’s determined never to step into her shoes for a film role, because Kelly is too well known to movie fans.
Jones tells Britain’s The Times, "I’ve been offered a couple of TV movies playing Grace Kelly and there was no way I would touch them with a seven foot pole. It would be career suicide. No one would watch them and come away saying anything other than, ‘She’s so not Grace Kelly.’ "Cate Blanchett got it right as Katharine Hepburn, but generally it doesn’t matter how much you look like that person or how good an actor you are, it’s impossible."

SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT LAWSUIT UNDERWAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

The producer of BURT REYNOLDS’ classic comedy movie SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT has filed suit against Hollywood studio bosses, alleging he has been cheated out of the proceeds from the 1977 film.
Mort Engelberg and members of his production company filed a lawsuit at Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (04Mar11) against executives at Universal Pictures and Sony, the company which later acquired the Rastar production firm that made the movie.
Engelberg claims the studio bosses are obliged to pay him 50 per cent of "net profits" from the film, as well as its 1980 sequel and another movie, 1979 comedy Hot Stuff starring Dom DeLuise.
He alleges film chiefs have reneged on his original deal with Rastar and he’s taking his compliant to court demanding the right to audit their books and then seek appropriate damages, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The suit lists a number of accusations including breach of contract and unjust enrichment.
The original Smokey And The Bandit film made a massive $127 million (£84.7 million) on its release, and spawned two sequels. The third film, Smokey and the Bandit Part 3 from 1983, is not part of the legal wrangling.

WALLIAMS HITS BACK AT CRITICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Comedian DAVID WALLIAMS was stunned when his new show with LITTLE BRITAIN co-star MATT LUCAS was slammed as racist - insisting the pair did not set out to deliberately offend viewers.
Come Fly With Me, a comedy show based around a fictional U.K. airport, launched on the BBC last year (10) but attracted several viewer complaints after Lucas darkened his face to play a Muslim and adopted a West Indian accent to portray a black woman called Precious.
But Walliams is adamant there was no intention to cause controversy, because they simply wanted the show to reflect Britain’s multi-cultural society.
He tells Buzz magazine, "I was surprised by the ‘racism’ criticism. To put it in perspective, 17 million people watched the first episode and the BBC had 22 complaints. But me and Matt just want to make people laugh, not to offend them, so we take even one complaint very seriously.
"As the show is set in an airport, which is a very multi-racial workplace, and we were representing 25 different characters each, it would have been strange if they were all white, middle-aged men. None of our characters were defined only by their race."

PACINO IN TAX TROUBLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:23 pm

Hollywood legend AL PACINO has been handed a bill for $188,000 (£125,333) by officials at America’s Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Officials at the tax office have filed a lien against The Godfather star, alleging he failed to hand over $169,143 (£112,762) in 2008 and a further $19,140 (£12,760) in 2009.
A representative for Pacino has acknowledged the tax bill and blamed the error on the actor’s former financial adviser Kenneth Starr, who was recently sentenced to more than seven years in prison after he admitted embezzling $30 million (£20 million) from celebrity clients.
The rep tells TMZ.com Pacino now has new management and is looking to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

WINSLET REFUSED THERAPY AFTER MARRIAGE SPLIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:26 pm

Actress KATE WINSLET refused to undergo psychotherapy to help her deal with her split from husband SAM MENDES last year (10) and relied instead on her "own intuition".
The British Oscar-winner announced her separation from the American Beauty director last year (10), putting an end to their seven-year marriage.
But the Titanic star admits she didn’t turn to a professional therapist to help her deal with the upheaval in her personal life.
She tells Vogue magazine, "One of the reasons I’ve never done intensive psychotherapy or any of that stuff is that if there’s anything in me that needs fixing, I want to know that I can rely on my own intuition to fix it."

WEST WINS STRONGER BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:26 pm

KANYE WEST has emerged victorious in a court battle over his hit track STRONGER after a judge threw out a lawsuit.
Songwriter/producer Vincent ‘Vince P.’ Peters filed suit against West last year (10), alleging the rapper copied chunks from his own composition, also named Stronger, which he alleges was written in 2006.
Peters claims he gave music manager John Monopoly, one of West’s business associates, a copy of the song during a meeting in 2006, and was stunned when the star’s Grammy-winning version appeared the following year (07).
But a judge at a court in Illinois has now ruled in West’s favour and dismissed Peters’ claim. Judge Virginia Kendall decided the two songs are not substantially similar and threw out the case, according to Allhiphop.com.
The news comes just days after West settled a long running legal dispute with music mogul Marion ‘Suge’ Knight, stemming from a 2005 shooting at a Florida party.

BROWN FELT ABANDONED AFTER RIHANNA FIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:23 pm

CHRIS BROWN has opened up about the loneliness he felt in the aftermath of his notorious fight with ex-girlfriend RIHANNA, as friends and colleagues distanced themselves from him.
The R&B singer was left with an assault conviction after he beat the Umbrella hitmaker in a furious argument in 2009.
Brown’s career nosedived in the wake of the incident and he admits that although some of his associates stood by him, the scandal left him with few friends in the music industry.
He tells New York’s Page Six Magazine, "A handful of people stuck by me. But when people see certain things happen to somebody, they usually turn away. They don’t want to get involved with it because they don’t want their name attached to anything negative." But two years after the incident, Brown is convinced many of his former friends are coming back to him.
He adds, "They wanna get on the record. They wanna let me back in the door. The last two years, everybody dissed me. But my fans were so dedicated. The way I look at it is, you can’t walk around mad, because then you just prove everybody right that you’re an angry person."

ROCK HEADING TO BROADWAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:23 pm

CHRIS ROCK is set to swap stand-up for the New York stage after signing up to make his Broadway debut later this year (11).
The comedian will play a drug counsellor in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ controversial new play The Motherf**ker With the Hat, which is set to begin previews on 15 March (11) before opening on 11 April (11) at Manhattan’s Gerald Shoenfeld Theatre.
Rock has described the show as "The Honeymooners with drugs" and hopes to become a Broadway regular if his stint on stage is a success.
He tells the Associated Press, "I could absolutely do one of these every once in a while. I like this process because it values the writer. Literally, nothing’s done without the writer’s approval - and that’s so different from the movies. In the movies, they kind of hate the writers. The writers’ union needs a Rosa Parks."

SUTHERLAND’S BROADWAY DEBUT LEAVES REVIEWERS COLD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:23 pm

KIEFER SUTHERLAND and CHRIS NOTH’s Broadway revival of THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON has left critics unimpressed following its official opening on Sunday (06Mar11).
The Jason Miller play, centred on four former high school basketball players who meet up with their coach 20 years on, originally debuted at an off-Broadway theatre in 1972, and went on to scoop a Tony Award for Best Play and a Pulitzer Prize the following year (73).
It emerged last year (10) that director Gregory Mosher would helm a revival of the show, starring Sex and the City actor Noth and 24’s Sutherland in his Broadway debut - but the reboot has not impressed reviewers.
The New York Times’ chief theatre critic Ben Brantley branded it "extroverted", "star-swollen", and dated, adding: "Gregory Mosher’s production… seems to be shouting at you." Bloomberg’s Jeremy Gerard brushed off the show as an "irony-free revival", and slammed Noth’s performance, writing, "Mosher hasn’t coaxed much more than whining and empty bluster from his cast. Hardest to take is Noth, who fills the theatre with Serious Acting, entailing much grimacing and mangling of words".
Scott Brown, writing in New York magazine, describes the play as "dog-eared", "a season or 40 out of date", with a "distinct cologne of embalming fluid", and damns the second half of the show as "interminable".
But USA Today’s Elysa Gardner took some positives from the performance, insisting That Championship Season is "a capably crafted and solidly acted show".

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

British rapper MIKE SKINNER is on a course of super-strength medication after he was left battered and bruised by a crowd-surfing stunt on his farewell tour.
The Streets star released his final album, Computers and Blues, last month (Feb11) and announced he would undertake one more road trip before bringing the curtain down on the band nine years after the release of its debut album.
But the tour ended in agony for Skinner - he is taking "every painkiller out there" after over-eager fans at his show in Brighton, south England on Friday (04Mar11) injured the star when he clambered over their heads for a new promo film.
At a concert in London the following night (05Mar11), Skinner repeated his crowd-surfing stunt but told fans, "This show nearly didn’t happen… I tried this last night in Brighton and I got torn to shreds, so please be tranquil. I’m taking every painkiller out there."

HARDING’S ROMANTIC NEW YEAR’S EVE PROPOSAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

GIRLS ALOUD star SARAH HARDING has opened up about the moment she became engaged to her boyfriend TOM CRANE, revealing the DJ proposed on a beach in the Maldives as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve (31Dec10).
The British singer has been dating Crane for five years and in January (11) they confirmed their plans to wed.
Harding has now spoken for the first time about the romantic proposal, admitting she had no idea her partner was planning to pop the question.
Crane reveals he bought a ring locally and asked for Harding’s hand in marriage while they sat on the beach just before they rang in 2011 together.
He tells Britain’s Hello! magazine, "We sat on the beach on our own… dipping our toes in the water as the ocean lapped the shore. The New Year’s celebrations were gearing up and Sarah was chattering away, so much so that I had to say to her… ‘Will you just be quiet and listen to me, there’s something I really want to ask you.’… I pulled the ring out of my pocket… got down on one knee and asked her to marry me." Harding adds, "I wasn’t expecting it at all, and although Tom stumbled over his words a little, I loved that because it was really sweet and heartfelt. He hadn’t rehearsed some big speech - he was saying how he really felt." The star is already planning her big day, and although her Girls Aloud bandmates will be invited, Harding has decided not to ask them to be bridesmaids: "I don’t think the girls would really want that now, and I already have six bridesmaids. Another four would be pushing it… I honestly don’t think they’d thank me if I asked them to do it."

ECKHART BRAVED BROKEN ARM PAIN TO COMPLETE NEW MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:17 pm

THE DARK KNIGHT star AARON ECKHART refused to halt filming when he broke his arm during the making of his new movie BATTLE: LOS ANGELES - as he wanted the painful moment to be caught on camera.
The actor slipped and fell while trying to pull off an ill-advised stunt, and even though he knew he had snapped a bone, he put up with the pain and carried on acting.
Eckhart didn’t see a doctor about his broken arm until after the movie had wrapped, and admits he is glad the incident made it into the final cut of the film.
He explains, "I heard it break and I said to the director, ‘Don’t cut,’ and finished the scene. It’s actually in the movie.
"I finished the movie, never missed a minute of work, I went to the hospital two days later, never had a cast on it."
