BATTLE: LOS ANGELES FIGHTS TO TOP OF U.S. BOX OFFICE CHART

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:14 am

Actor AARON ECKHART’s alien war movie BATTLE: LOS ANGELES has invaded the U.S. box office chart to debut at number one.
The sci-fi action film, which also stars Michelle Rodriguez and singer-turned-actor Ne-Yo as U.S. Marines, grossed $36 million (£24 million) in its opening weekend (11-13Mar11).
It also proved popular outside of America, taking $16.7 million (£11.13 million) from 33 global markets, boosting its worldwide haul to just under $53 million (£35.3 million).
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp’s animated western Rango performed well in its second week on release with $23 million (£15.3 million), while Red Riding Hood entered at three, grossing $14.1 million (£9.4 million).
Disney’s new 3D animation Mars Needs Moms opened with a lacklustre $6.8 million (£4.53 million), placing fifth behind The Adjustment Bureau.

GREEN EXPLAINS MARS NEEDS MOMS ABSENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:12 am

Actor SETH GREEN has cleared up confusion surrounding his new Disney movie MARS NEEDS MOMS after fans discovered his voice had been removed from the animation - even though he’s given top billing on promotional posters.
The Austin Powers star helped producers capture the movements of the film’s lead character, nine-year-old Milo, but studio bosses decided against using his vocals for the boy because he sounded too mature. Child actor Seth Dusky was brought in to voice the part instead.
Green’s fans were baffled to find the star was still given prime credit in film ads and the funnyman has taken to Facebook.com to explain the reason behind the move and lavish praise on Dusky.
He writes, "The movie was made in the same way that Avatar and A Christmas Carol were, through performance capture filmmaking. The other actors and I performed the entire movie in skin-tight velcro suits in a massive empty volume with hundreds of cameras recording our digital information.
"Since I’m a 37-year-old man playing a 9-year-old boy, it was always expected we’d get a real kid to re-record (my character) Milo’s dialogue, and that’s what we did. A great young actor named Seth (great coincidence, no?) Dusky recorded every line over my vocal performance, using it as a guide for his. He did a fantastic job." The 3D film revolves around young Milo, who only realises how much he relies on his mother after Martians kidnap her and take her to outer space to raise their offspring.

GYLLENHAAL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH FAN’S BATHROOM SNAP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:12 am

JAKE GYLLENHAAL’s representative has played down reports the actor was involved in a bathroom bust-up at the South By South West Film Festival, after a male fan snapped a photo of the star at a urinal.
The Jarhead actor was attending a special screening of his new action movie Source Code on Saturday (12Mar11) at the Austin, Texas event when he found himself accosted as he relieved himself in the bathroom.
Rumours online suggest Gyllenhaal became embroiled in a heated moment with the man after approaching him and demanding he delete the picture.
The Hollywood hunk appeared to confirm the news when asked about the incident, telling Entertainment Weekly, "That’s true. I think it’s an appropriate space to keep privacy. I hope that people wouldn’t disagree with me on that." But his spokesperson insists it didn’t happen quite how gossip bloggers have described, amid claims Gyllenhaal had grabbed the man and thrown him against a wall.
His rep tells Eonline.com, "There was no scuffle, it was an excited fan who tried to take his picture in the restroom. He asked the guy to please delete it and he did! No drama."

PHANTOM SEQUEL SHUT OUT OF OLIVIER AWARDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:12 am

Theatre impresario ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER’s PHANTOM OF THE OPERA sequel was completely shut out of London’s prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards on Sunday (13Mar11), losing out in all seven of the categories it was nominated for.
Love Never Dies looked set to dominate the prizegiving after landing the most nods, but it was overlooked in every category and beaten to the Best New Musical trophy by the stage adaptation of Legally Blonde.
The star of the West End show, Sheridan Smith, danced away with Best Musical Actress for her portrayal of sorority queen Elle Woods - the role played by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 comedy - while her co-star Jill Halfpenny took Best Supporting Role in a Musical.
A production of Terence Rattigan satire After the Dance took home the most prizes with a tally of four, including Best Revival and acting nods for Nancy Carroll and supporting actor Adrian Scarborough.
Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods was named Best Musical Revival, while Queen musical We Will Rock You landed the BBC Radio 2 audience award.
Other winners included David Thaxton (Best Actor in a Musical for Passion) and Howard Davies (Best Director for The White Guard), and race relations show Clybourne Park claimed Best New Play.
The Laurence Olivier Awards celebrate the best of the year’s West End shows.

SHEEN PLEDGES SHOW PROFITS TO JAPAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

CHARLIE SHEEN has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from his live stage shows to help those affected by the Japanese earthquake.
An 8.9-magnitude tremor hit the country on Friday (11Mar11), triggering a tsunami which has left more than 2,000 dead, and many more still missing.
Sheen posted a message on his Twitter.com page after the disaster, stating: "Pain & devastation in Japan demands us all to dig deep & LOVE THEM VIOLENTLY." And now he’s vowed to help out financially - by promising to donate $1 (66 pence) from the sale of every ticket to his upcoming stage shows to the Red Cross relief fund.
A post on his website reads, "One dollar from each ticket to My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option Show LIVE will be donated to the Red Cross Japanese earthquake relief fund." BALDWIN: ‘SHEEN SHOULD BEG FOR TV JOB BACK’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

ALEC BALDWIN has urged CHARLIE SHEEN to "sober up" and "beg" TV executives to reinstate him on TWO AND A HALF MEN, insisting the troubled actor "can’t win" his battle with network chiefs.
Sheen was fired by TV bosses earlier this week (07Mar11) after months of controversy, which included a public feud with the show’s creator Chuck Lorre, hospitalisations, rehab and a number of headline-grabbing stunts. He also fell out with his former co-star Jon Cryer by labelling him "a troll" for failing to support him.
Sheen subsequently filed legal papers seeking more than $100 million (£66.7 million) in damages for his dismissal, naming Warner Bros. executives and Lorre in his suit.
Baldwin has now reached out to Sheen, calling for the actor to apologise to TV bosses and "beg for America’s forgiveness" - because he is "a great television star".
In an article for The Huffington Post, he writes, "You can’t win. Really. You can’t. When executives at studios and networks move up to the highest ranks, they are given a book. The book is called How to Handle Actors. And one principle held dear in that book is that no actor is greater than the show itself when the show is a hit. And, in that regard, they are often right. Add to that the fact that the actor who is torturing their diseased egos is a drug-addled, porn star-squiring, near-Joycean internet ranter, and they really want you to go.
"Granted, it didn’t get real until you insulted them. And your suit may have real grounds. But you know what you should do? Take a nap. Get a shower. Call Chuck. Go on Letterman and make an apology… and then beg for your job back.
"Your fans demand it. You will never win because when you are as big a d**chebag as some of these guys are, they have no choice but to snuff you. (Do you secretly want to get snuffed? So you can go back and make movies?) "Sober up, Charlie. And get back on TV, if it’s not too late. This is America. You want to really p**s off Chuck and Warner Brothers and CBS? Beg for America’s forgiveness. They will give it to you. And then go back. You are a great television star. And you’ve got the gig. P.S…. buy Cryer a really nice car."

STARS PROTEST BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S ART CUTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:32 pm

Screen stars including DAME HELEN MIRREN, MICHAEL SHEEN and JULIE WALTERS have joined forces to protest against government cuts to arts funding in Britain.
Kenneth Branagh, Sheila Hancock, David Tennant and director Mike Leigh are also among the names who have signed a letter, published in U.K. newspaper The Observer, declaring arts and culture in Britain are facing "the biggest threat" in decades.
It comes after officials last year (10) wound down the UK Film Council, which has funded movies including the Oscar-winning The King’s Speech, as part of a range of cost-cutting measures.
The letter, organised by the actors’ union Equity, states, "Before the last election the Government promised to usher in a ‘golden age’ for the arts. The reality couldn’t be further from this.
"With the reductions announced in last year’s comprehensive spending review, the withdrawal of huge amounts of local authority support, the abolition of the UK Film Council and the financial pressures faced by the Arts Councils and the BBC, we are currently facing the biggest threat to funding the arts and culture have experienced in decades.
"If we are serious about rebuilding our economy, culture cannot and should not be an easy target for cuts." Harry Potter star Walters is also calling for government chiefs to protect local arts organisations and community theatre, adding: "That’s where tomorrow’s hit shows will come from and where the stars of the future learn the trade we have become world famous for. Cutting of funding at a local level deprives a community of its cultural focus and future audiences from a generation of talent."

PIZZORNO SAVED FROM BALDNESS BY WONDER CURE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:32 pm

A style guru saved KASABIAN rocker SERGE PIZZORNO from losing his hair - and now she’s thanking him for inspiring her to launch a range of men’s grooming products.
Beauty expert Lisa Hilton noticed Pizzorno frequently wore a hat to cover up his thinning thatch, and she advised him to massage his scalp every day and visit an upmarket salon to treat his tresses.
The guitarist soon realised his flowing locks were getting thicker - and the wonder cure for baldness inspired Hilton to dream up her own range of male cosmetics, called +Rehab.
She says, "He could have gone bald if he’d carried on the way he was. That’s why he was wearing hats all the time. He wasn’t cutting off his straggly ends or getting enough blood circulation. So I did a proper cut and made him massage his scalp daily.
"He inspired me to set up the +Rehab London range because men don’t look after themselves enough." Pizzorno adds, "My girlfriend cuts it just the way Lisa said and now my hair’s sorted!"

CHURCH SPLITS FROM LABEL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:29 pm

Welsh singer CHARLOTTE CHURCH has parted ways with her record label, just a year after announcing the $3 million (£2 million) deal.
The Crazy Chick hitmaker signed with Power Amp Music in 2010 after a five-year career break, which saw her give birth to two children.
Church’s latest album, Back To Scratch, failed to set the charts alight in Britain, scraping in at number 23, and it has now been revealed the singer has split from the label, amid rumours of a dispute over how best to promote her music.
Her spokesperson tells Britain’s Mail on Sunday, "All I can really say, because of the confidentiality issues, is that it was in Charlotte’s financial interests to do so before the agreement entered the second year of its term.
"This is typical for these type of deals, which are investment deals rather than record deals. I can also say that the decision to terminate the term early, which suited both parties, was made well before the commercial release of the album." A representative for the label adds, "It didn’t work out with Charlotte and that’s fair enough. There was no falling out. It was a mutual decision. They decided to exit the deal."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:29 pm

NINE INCH NAILS star TRENT REZNOR has pulled out of work on the movie adaptation of quirky bestseller ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.
The rocker, whose The Social Network score won him an Oscar last month (Feb11), was said to have signed up to compose the music for the dark drama and agreed to appear onscreen in the film.
But he’s now revealed to fans he is no longer involved with the project.
In a post on his blog, he writes, "As it turns out, I WON’T be working on (acting or scoring) ALVH after all. There’s no juicy story here, it’s just that when the news mysteriously leaked out about my involvement I hadn’t made up my mind completely, because various aspects of the project were changing.
"I felt the need to say something earlier this week because my inbox was filling up with speculation, and at that moment I thought I would be doing it. Confused yet? Apparently I am. Bottom line, I wish them the best with the film and I’m sure it will still be great."

RITCHIE’S CCTV BATTLE WITH LOCAL COUNCIL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:23 pm

Moviemaker GUY RITCHIE is in talks with officials from his local council after a CCTV camera pole was erected in the grounds of his English country estate without planning permission, according to a U.K. report.
The director is said to have put the pole up within the boundaries of his $16.5 million (£11 million) property in Salisbury, England without proper paperwork and chiefs from Wiltshire County Council subsequently sent an enforcement officer to carry out an inspection.
Ritchie was told the pole would have to be taken down unless he received retrospective planning permission, according to Britain’s Mail on Sunday.
A council spokesperson tells the publication, "We have looked into it and found there is no planning consent for the pole.
"A retrospective planning application has now been made. If that is not agreed, the pole may have to be taken down." This is the second property problem for Ritchie in as many months - in February (11) his $9 million (£6 million) London house was taken over by squatters. He was forced to take legal action and a judge then ruled the director could have his property back.
