U.S. AUTHORITIES SUPPORT BERESFORD-REDMAN’S EXTRADITION TO MEXICO

Reality TV producer BRUCE BERESFORD-REDMAN has suffered a blow in his extradition battle against charges of homicide - U.S. judicial officials have sided with Mexican prosecutors and plan to make sure he faces trial.
The man behind hit show Survivor is accused of involvement in the killing of his wife, Monica, whose body was found in a sewer near the couple’s hotel in Cancun last April (10).
Beresford-Redman fled Mexico and returned to Los Angeles shortly after the tragedy, and he has since been charged with aggravated homicide.
U.S. authorities actioned a formal extradition request from prosecutors in November (10) and took the producer into custody as his lawyer fought plans to send him back to Mexico to stand trial.
Representatives at the U.S. Justice Department reiterated their support for the Mexican officials’ request on Monday (14Mar11), and the case for extradition will now be heard by a Los Angeles judge on 16 May (11).
Beresford-Redman has maintained his innocence, but has yet to formally enter a plea.

50 CENT DRAWS BACKLASH AFTER TWITTER TSUNAMI JOKE

Rap superstar 50 CENT came under attack from some of his Twitter.com followers over the weekend (11-13Mar11) after making a series of tongue-in-cheek comments about the Japanese tsunami and earthquake disaster.
The In Da Club hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, took to the micro-blogging site on Friday (11Mar11) to share his shock over the natural disasters and reveal his plans to leave Los Angeles, after the entire U.S. west coast and countries in the Pacific Rim were placed on tsunami alert.
In a series of posts, he wrote, "Man I hate to say this but the world is coming to a end. Look at japan tell the people you value you love them… US west coast TUSNAMI (sic) watch f**k this I’m going back to new york." But 50 Cent’s tone soon shifted and he sparked controversy online when he appeared to make light of the situation.
He continued, "Hawaii under a watch this s**t is crazy. I can’t swim… Now they are saying they know it’s gonna hit the west coast damn.
"Wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing. Look this is very serious people I had to evacuate all my hoe’s from LA,Hawaii and Japan. I had to do it. Lol (laugh out loud)." The messages prompted a backlash from some of his four million Twitter fans, who branded him "an a**hole" and "insensitive" for joking about the Japanese tragedy, prompting 50 to reign in his sarcasm.
In a final post about the earthquake and tsunami, he added, "Nah this is nuts but what can anyone do about it. Let’s pray for anyone who has lost someone.
"Some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I’m cool either way." Kelly Osbourne appears to be among those appalled by his comments, taking to her Twitter accound on Monday (14Mar11) to scold, "its truly disgusting that people r making jokes about whats going on in Japan not 2 mention posting videos thanking god. it makes me sick!"

KUTCHER LISTS CRAFTSMAN HOME HE RENOVATED AT $2.6 MILLION

ASHTON KUTCHER is selling off the Hollywood Hills bachelor pad he renovated with his dad.
The actor bought the home in 2004 for $1 million (£670,000) and has listed it at $2.6 million (£1.7 million).
The small estate comes with a pool, spa and "inspired landscaping".
Kutcher sold passes to view his former bachelor pad last month (Feb11) to benefit the Demi and Ashton Foundation, which aims to eliminate child sex slavery worldwide and rehabilitate victims.
Reports suggest Kutcher will donate the sale fee to the charity.

EMINEM STEALS FACEBOOK CROWN FROM KING OF POP

Rap superstar EMINEM is officially the most popular person on Facebook.com after stealing the crown from late King of Pop, MICHAEL JACKSON.
The Not Afraid hitmaker overtook Lady Gaga as the top living soul on the social networking website last month (Feb11) when his profile garnered almost 29 million ‘likes’ from fans.
According to FameCount.com, only Jackson had more Facebook followers - until now.
Eminem had surpassed the 30 million mark by Monday (14Mar11), leaving the Thriller legend trailing in second place with 29.8 million ‘likes’.
But his power on Facebook doesn’t come close to Gaga’s on Twitter.com - the Paparazzi star leads all musicians with 8.7 million followers, while Eminem is placed just inside the top 20 artists on the micro-blogging site.

HOLLYWOOD ACCENT EXPERT DEAD

SAM CHWAT, the dialect coach who helped JULIA ROBERTS and ROBERT DE NIRO perfect tough accents for film roles, has died.
The 57 year old lost his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on 3 March (11).
He ran the Sam Chwat Speech Center in New York City, which has helped thousands of people with speech impediments and accents.
As well as working with De Niro for Cape Fear and This Boy’s Life, and Roberts for Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias, the speech therapist also coached politicians to perfect speaking patterns to lure voters.
According to the Los Angeles Times, his first Hollywood client was actress Andie MacDowell, who asked for his help after her voice was dubbed by Glenn Close in 1984 movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes after producers decided her South Carolina accent was too extreme for the character of Jane Porter.

DURAN DURAN & DAVID LYNCH TEAM UP FOR CONCERT SPECTACULAR

DURAN DURAN have recruited maverick moviemaker DAVID LYNCH to direct their upcoming UNSTAGED concert in Los Angeles for a live stream to fans across the world.
The Rio hitmakers will take to the stage at the Mayan Theatre on 23 March (11) - the day after the release of their much-anticipated new album All You Need is Now - and Blue Velvet director Lynch will capture the event on cameras and beam the footage around the world via YouTube.com.
Keyboard player Nick Rhodes tells Billboard.com, "What appeals to us very much about working with David is that we like the way he thinks about things and how he’s always gone out on a limb to make things different than anybody else.
"He works completely outside of the system, and that’s what we try to do. I think the combustion between us and David should create something that nobody’s ever seen before, something mysterious and magical and surprising."

WARWICK FEARS POST-EARTHQUAKE JAPAN SHOWS

Singer DIONNE WARWICK is considering pulling two upcoming Japanese concerts - because she fears further tremors following last week’s (11Mar11) earthquake disaster.
The Walk on By star admits she’s terrified of quakes - and moved out of Los Angeles when the last ‘big one’ hit the city.
She still hasn’t ruled out the upcoming shows in Tokyo - but she’s not looking forward to the trip.
She says, "We’re still waiting for word. The last we heard it was still no power, they’re still having aftershocks and I don’t do earthquakes very well… They ran me out of this town… I left here in a flash.
"Back east you kinda get a warning about hurricanes, you get a warning about tornadoes, so you know what to do.
"That last earthquake here, it threw me outta bed and when I got my bearings, I said, ‘OK, I’m outta here… Whatever’s here can stay.’"

SOCIAL DISTORTION’S ROYER CHARGED FOR OVERDOSE IN FRONT OF SON

Punk icon CASEY ROYER has been charged with child endangerment after allegedly overdosing on heroin in front of his son.
The former Social Distortion drummer was admitted to hospital in Orange County, California last week (ends13Mar11) after allegedly collapsing while watching TV with his 12-year-old boy.
The pre-teen appealed to neighbours for help and the police were called to the scene, which was littered with drug paraphernalia, reports TMZ.com.
Royer, 52, was hospitalised, revived by doctors and subsequently arrested.
On Monday (14Mar11) he was charged with child endangerment and being under the influence of heroin.

DEGENERES’ ALLEGED TRESPASSER GIVEN PROBATION

A woman charged with trespassing on ELLEN DEGENERES and PORTIA DE ROSSI’s Los Angeles estate has been sentenced to three years probation.
Karen Sjoden was arrested on the grounds of the stars’ Beverly Hills compound in February (11) and charged with a misdemeanour.
The suspect pleaded no contest to the count in a California court on Monday (14Mar11) and was granted credit for the 49 days already served in jail.
She was ordered to serve three years on probation and told to stay away from the couple, its home and one of DeGeneres’ employees.

MASI OKA DEVASTATED AND HEARTBROKEN BY JAPAN TRAGEDY

Former HEROES star MASI OKA is still coming to terms with the devastation of last week’s (ends11Mar11) earthquake and tsunami in his native Japan, which came immediately after he celebrated his homeland at a party in Los Angeles.
The actor’s Tokyo-based family are all well and accounted for, but a lot of his friends are still trying to track down relatives following the disaster, which has so far claimed the lives of 2,800 people.
Oka admits he’s "heartbroken" by the images of death and destruction he has been seeing on TV over the weekend as a desperate clean-up operation begins, and he may fly out to Japan this week (beg14Mar11) to see if there’s anything he can do.
He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood Live, "I was in Japan about a week and a half ago and I was actually supposed to go again this Wednesday, which I still might." The actor reveals he was at a party with Japanese friends just before the tragedy struck: "I was ironically celebrating a birthday party with a lot of my Japanese friends… I came home, I was in a conference call with my colleagues in Japan (and) after I got off, my mum says, ‘Watch the news…’ I see all these images… It was really surreal…It’s very overwhelming." But he’s very proud of his countrymen and women as they begin the process of piecing their lives back together.
He adds, "There’s definitely a sense of community, a oneness with Japanese people and there’s a lot of pride in trying to help each other as well as trying not to burden the people around you… They don’t want to be a bother to other folks." Oka is now urging fans to pray for Japan and give generously to the Red Cross - to boost the charity’s relief efforts.
He states, "We’re all connected as human beings and this is something that we have to work (on) together."

KNAPP PREGNANT WITH PHILLIPPE’S BABY - REPORT

Actor RYAN PHILLIPPE has found himself at the centre of new reports suggesting his ex-girlfriend, actress ALEXIS KNAPP, is pregnant with his baby.
The Cruel Intentions star dated Knapp for several months last year (10) before splitting in September (10).
Knapp recently stepped out in Hollywood with a distinct baby bump and, although she has yet to officially comment about her pregnancy, sources tell UsMagazine.com she’s convinced Phillippe is the dad.
The insider says, "She’s being telling people he is the father. Ryan doesn’t know if he is the dad. If he is, he will take full responsibility of the child." The actor already has two children, Ava, 11, and Deacon, seven, with his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon. The couple divorced in 2007 and Phillippe has most recently been linked to Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried.
Representatives for Phillippe and Knapp had yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press.

SINGER WESTENRA TO PERFORM AT EARTHQUAKE MEMORIAL

Soprano HAYLEY WESTENRA will pay tribute to earthquake victims in her New Zealand hometown on Friday (18Feb11) by singing the national anthem at a memorial service attended by British royal PRINCE WILLIAM.
The opera singer was in London when her native Christchurch was devastated by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake last month (Feb11), killing more than 160 people.
She received a personal request from New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key to perform at the city’s memorial service, where the prince is expected to address the congregation.
Meanwhile, Westenra has unveiled details about Quake Aid, a star-studded benefit concert she’s organising to raise much-needed funds for the local community as residents try to rebuild their lives in the wake of the tragedy.
She said, "Putting on these concerts is the best way I know to help - it’s my way of giving back to the city that means so much to me." Westenra scrapped a scheduled tour of New Zealand in order to plan the charity show. It will take place in Auckland in August (11), with all proceeds going to earthquake relief.

ADELE MAINTAINS HOLD OVER U.K. POP CHARTS

Soul sensation ADELE continues to reign over the U.K. pop charts as her album 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN celebrates its seventh consecutive week atop the countdown.
The London-born star managed to hold off competition from British rockers Elbow, whose Build A Rocket Boys! charges up the chart to debut at number two - the band’s highest-ever placing.
U.K. singer Jessie J is at three with Who You Are, while Adele’s 2008 release, 19, is still riding high at four. R.E.M.’s Collapse Into Now is another new entry at five.

SAXON WERE SNOWBOUND DURING STUDIO SESSIONS

Heavy metal band SAXON were forced to work overtime when they recorded their new album last year (10) after falling behind schedule when they became stranded by snowstorms.
Remote areas of the U.K. were cut off in December when blizzards crippled roads and caused travel chaos throughout Europe.
And the veteran British rockers have revealed they put studio sessions for their new album, Call To Arms, on hold because of the bad weather - and had to work extra hard to complete it in time.
Frontman Biff Byford tells Metal Hammer magazine, "We’ve had to work really fast on this record, because all the bad weather in England over the winter put us behind schedule. We were stuck in the wrong part of the country when all the snow came down."

JO WOOD LAUGHS OFF RONNIE RECONCILIATION

RONNIE WOOD’s ex-wife JO has dismissed reports she’s preparing to reconcile with the rocker, branding the speculation "ridiculous".
The Rolling Stones star has been dating polo coach Ana Araujo since last year (10), but they were reported to have split last month (Feb11) - prompting gossip about a possible reunion with his former partner.
But Jo has brushed off the rumours, telling Britain’s Sunday Mirror, "It’s ridiculous. I’ll always love him but I could never live with him again." The veteran guitarist married Jo in 1985, but they split in 2008, after his affair with young Russian waitress Ekaterina Ivanova was exposed in the press. Their divorce was finalised in January (11).

ICONIC JAZZ DRUMMER MORELLO DIES

Celebrated jazz musician and longtime drummer of the THE DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET, JOE MORELLO, has died at the age of 82.
The star passed away on Saturday (12Mar11) at his home in New Jersey. A cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Morello began his career in New York in the early 1950s, playing with a variety of artists, including pianist Marian McPartland.
He teamed up with Dave Brubeck, saxophonist Paul Desmond and bassist Eugene Wright in 1956 and the band performed and recorded together for more than 12 years. Among their classics include Take Five and Blue Rondo a la Turk.

ECKHART EYEING PARIS MOVE

Actor AARON ECKHART is planning to leave the hectic Hollywood lifestyle behind and move to Paris, France.
The Dark Knight star has previously spent time in Europe and Australia before focusing on breaking into the movie industry.
But he admits he’s yearning to get back to the French capital and is hoping to relocate in the near future.
In an interview on U.S. talk show Live with Regis & Kelly, he says, "I love Paris, I’m hoping to eventually move to Paris.
"I used to live in Paris, 20 years ago, well actually I lived in the South of France and ever since then I’ve always wanted to go back there and live so I think I’m going to do that." Eckhart experienced the Parisien lifestyle on Saturday (12Mar11) when he celebrated his 43rd birthday in the city while on a promotional tour of Europe for his new movie, Battle: Los Angeles.
