ANTHRAX STAR IAN WRITES ABOUT TSUNAMI TERROR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:15 pm

ANTHRAX guitarist SCOTT IAN was caught up in the panic following the Japanese tsunami, as waves threatened to hit the tropical resort of Hawaii where he was on holiday with his pregnant wife.
The musician recently confirmed he is expecting a baby with his wife Pearl Aday, daughter of veteran rocker Meat Loaf, and the couple embarked on a vacation to Hawaii earlier this month (Mar11) ahead of the impending birth in the summer (11).
But the relaxing trip took a terrifying turn after an earthquake and tidal wave struck Japan on 11 March (11) and a tsunami warning went out to islands across the Pacific, including Hawaii.
In a post on his online blog, Ian writes, "We went on a ‘babymoon.’ Basically, our last trip just the two of us for a long time. It was a great vacation, super relaxing… and oh yeah, there was a tsunami…
"We were at dinner with friends when one of them got a text saying there was a tsunami warning because of the earthquake in Japan… By the time we left dinner… traffic was insane with people trying to get out of Waikiki and it suddenly hit home that this could be serious." The couple drove back to their hotel before the wave hit, but panic set in when they saw footage from Japan and realised their resort was set on a coastal road: "We made it back around 12:30 a.m. and turned on the TV and saw the devastation in Japan. Unbelievable… After seeing this, we did start to worry. Would it really be safe here? Are we high enough up (fourth floor)… I called the (reception) desk half a dozen times asking these questions and telling them I had a pregnant wife with me and they reassured me each time that we’d be OK.
"At around 2 a.m. the hotel security announced over the PA that we had to leave our rooms and close our balcony doors and shutters and move into the hallway. We decided to stay in our room. If something was coming, I wanted to see it." But when the wave finally struck, the damage was minimal and Ian felt like they had a lucky escape. He adds, "There was some damage on the Big Island and some damage to boats in some of the harbours but, all in all, a non-event, especially when compared to Japan. If it was a wave like that, I’d be typing this from my mattress 20 miles out at sea somewhere." Ian and Aday weren’t the only celebrities caught up in the disaster - comedian and U.S. chat show host Jimmy Kimmel was evacuated from his resort in Bora Bora and singer/songwriter Jack Johnson was touring in Japan when the quake and the waves hit.

LAURIE TOO ‘PARANOID’ TO LEAD NORMAL LIFE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:15 pm

Actor HUGH LAURIE refuses to leave his house to socialise in Hollywood circles - because he’s "paranoid" he will be photographed.
The British star relocated Los Angeles when he began filming House seven years ago, and admits he has become a virtual recluse ever since, leaving his home only to go to work on the hit show.
And Laurie admits he has struggled to give up his privacy for success.
He tells Britain’s The Times Magazine, "I’m much more guarded, even paranoid. Pathetic really, but I operate in this horrible world of false names, dark glasses and wide-brimmed hats… I even had the windows of my car tinted because it just became so boring, trying not to get stuck at the front of the line at red lights. Everyone’s got digital cameras, and before you know it you’ve caused a hold-up.
"Truthfully, I pretty much don’t go out… Pick up the groceries or collect dry-cleaning? I haven’t done that stuff in years. Terrible of me. Terrible. But the last time I did try going to the supermarket, I was photographed and I hated it. I hate people peering at what I’ve bought, taking photos of what’s in my basket. I just hate it…
"You can’t go out and lead a normal life. You can’t just be yourself." And Laurie admits he even worries about being watched while he’s on set, adding, "In the age of Facebook, Twitter and all the rest, it’s hard to confide in anyone. There’s this malevolent delight in spreading stuff. I might say something on set and two hours later, I’ll read about it on the net. It’s happened. The result is that I can’t be completely honest in any situation."

RADCLIFFE BUYS THIRD NEW YORK HOME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:51 am

HARRY POTTER star DANIEL RADCLIFFE has expanded his property portfolio after reportedly purchasing a multi-million dollar home in New York - his third in the city.
The actor, who has amassed a $63 million (£42 million) fortune since landing the boy wizard role in 2001, purchased the five-bedroom townhouse in Manhattan’s West Village for $6.4 million (£4 million).

The Brit already owns a $4.8 million (£3 million) loft on Mercer Street, which he lets for $4,800 (£3,000) a week, as well as a $5.6 million (£3.5 million) apartment in the TriBeCa area, where he has been living while performing in the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

NASH LAUNCHING YOUNG FEMALE SONGWRITING CAMPAIGN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:48 am

British singer KATE NASH is launching a new scheme in the U.K. to encourage schoolgirls to take up songwriting.
The Foundations hitmaker is worried about the lack of emerging female music writers, and she’s spearheading the Rock and Roll After-School Music Club initiative in a bid to nurture young talent.
Nash will even visit her own alma mater, Avonbourne Girls School in Bournemouth, south England, on Wednesday (23Mar11) to encourage pupils to take part.
She tells Britain’s The Independent, "A lot of women in pop aren’t writing their own songs and there is this preconception that women are meant mainly as performers. A lot of people still ask me whether I write my own material, as if women are not capable of doing it. That is damaging to people’s reputation." "It’s about showing people a path and saying: ‘You can totally do this’. It can be as simple as talking about what I’ve done. People need to be told they can be themselves; a little bit of encouragement; to be told that they are worth something."

POYNTER: ‘SANDFORD DEATH THREATS ARE OUT OF CONTROL’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

British boy band star DOUGIE POYNTER is fuming after learning his ex-girlfriend FRANKIE SANDFORD has been targeted with death threats after he checked into rehab to recover from their split.
The McFly bassist checked into a clinic earlier this month (Mar11) to deal with personal issues stemming from his break-up from The Saturdays singer Sandford in November (10).
Poynter left the unit on Monday (14Mar11) after finishing his treatment - and was disgusted to learn Sandford has been subjected to violent messages from McFly fans.
He tells Britain’s News of the World, "It’s out of control really. I think anyone receiving death threats is not a good thing. I don’t support anything like that. I don’t wish bad things upon anybody." But the Brit, who kicked off a trek with his bandmates on Friday (18Mar11), is pleased he decided to take a break to deal with his heartache.
He adds, "It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done in my whole life. I’m still me but it’s definitely been very positive. I don’t know how I’ve changed. I try not to really think too much about it."

ODD FUTURE STORM OFFSTAGE AT SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:42 am

Much-hyped hip-hop group ODD FUTURE sparked controversy at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas on Saturday night (19Mar11) by storming offstage just minutes into their Billboard magazine showcase following a series of sound issues.
The group didn’t even get through its first song at the Buffalo Billiards venue before rapper Tyler, The Creator stopped the show and demanded sound problems onstage were fixed immediately.
He raged, "Mic number two is f**ked up. Fix that s**t." The group then restarted the set, but made it through just three songs before throwing down their microphones and storming offstage.
Tyler later took to his Twitter.com blog to further berate the sound engineers who he claimed ruined the show.
He wrote, "That Show Was Stupid. Thanks to the Fans and N**gas that Was There In The Front… F**K THAT CLUB." It was the second controversy at an Odd Future performance in as many days - Tyler was hit by a bottle thrown at the stage during a surprise SXSW set on Friday night (18Mar11).
The show was halted as the rapper and his bandmates searched for the culprit in the audience.

JARAJ’S BALLET SCHOOL TERROR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:42 am

British actress KIMBERLY JARAJ has opened up about her experience as a young dancer at the U.K.’s Royal Ballet School, insisting she lived in fear of her strict instructors.
Jaraj began attending the prestigious academy when she was just eight years old and admits it wasn’t the best environment to grow up in as teachers pitted students against one another.
She says, "Someone would cry every day. I never felt the pressure for being skinny, but other girls definitely did. They did weigh us frequently and they would say things to me like, ‘Your mother’s 5ft 6in and your father’s 6ft, so why aren’t you taller?’ I’d think, ‘How am I supposed to know?’ "The smallest thing, like, if you didn’t have your little pink ribbon in your hair, you’d panic. They would tell you to sit out. You’re in competition with your friends every day. (And) they didn’t really warm to other ethnicities. They weren’t that accepting of somebody who wasn’t white or Christian." Now the 22 year old has the utmost respect for professional ballerinas, adding, "It really is the hardest profession."

COOPER SHUNS SOCIAL NETWORKING TO PROTECT MOVIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:39 am

BRADLEY COOPER refuses to reveal too much about his personal life because he’s worried opening himself up to audiences will spoil their enjoyment of his movies.
The Hangover actor, who is reported to have split from girlfriend Renee Zellweger, has no plans to sign up to any social networking sites and admits he’s baffled by stars who open up to fans online.
He tells Britain’s OK! TV, "It’s a taste thing - I see the benefit of it (social networking) for sure. It’s a great way to promote ideas and projects.
"For me, maybe I’m old fashioned, if I know so much about you and you’re playing a character in a movie then that’s a lot of work I’m gonna have to do to forget who you are so that I can believe the character and therefore enjoy the movie."

JONES AND GILLIAM ARE OPERA RIVALS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:39 am

Former MONTY PYTHON co-stars TERRY JONES and TERRY GILLIAM are preparing for a stage showdown as they each launch their first operas in London.
The funnymen are directing productions at rival venues in the British capital - Jones has adapted his short story The Doctor’s Tale for the Royal Opera House, while Gilliam’s The Damnation of Faust opens at the London Coliseum.
The stars insist it is a coincidence that they are both taking on new opera ventures, but Jones reveals he has turned to opera fan Gilliam for support - because he’s completely new to the genre.
He says, "We’ve been discussing our operas and how they are going… I’ve only been to two operas in my life - both quite recently. One was Rossini’s Cinderella, but it was worse than a pantomime. Then I went to Anna Nicole at Covent Garden. I didn’t really like the music and I found the dialogue a bit daft." The Doctor’s Tale will premiere next month (Apr11), while the curtain goes up on Gilliam’s show in May (11).

WYCLEF SHOT DURING ELECTION TRIP TO HAITI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:57 am

Rapper WYCLEF JEAN has been shot in the hand in his native Haiti.
The former Fugees star, who lives in the U.S., travelled to the country earlier this week (begs14Mar11) to lend his support to presidential candidate Michel Martelly as he prepares for the final round of elections against former First Lady Mirlande Manigat on Sunday (20Mar11).
Reports emerged shortly after midnight on Sunday suggesting Jean’s car had come under attack and was peppered with bullets as he was being driven through the city of Port-au-Prince with hip-hop pal Busta Rhymes and record executive Jimmy Rosemond.
The guitarist’s hand was injured in the shoot out, although he is said to be in a stable condition after seeking medical attention at a local hospital.
No other passengers are thought to have been injured during the incident.
A photo appearing to show Jean lying on a hospital bed with his right hand bandaged and his left hand covering his face has since emerged online.
Confirming the shooting via a post on Twitter.com, his representatives write, "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers - Management." Jean was himself a presidential hopeful, but was ruled ineligible to run for office last year (10).
The news of Jean’s shooting comes hours after exiled former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide arrived in the country on Saturday (19Mar11).
Hollywood actor Danny Glover had jetted to South Africa to accompany Aristide back to his earthquake-ravaged homeland, seven years after being ousted from power following a rebellion in 2004.
