CELEBRATED MUSICAL COMPOSER ROBERTS DIES
Celebrated composer, conductor and director HOWARD A. ROBERTS has died, aged 86.
Roberts produced recordings for a variety of artists at Columbia Records, including Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand. He was the musical director and conductor for the Tony Award-winning musical Raisin as well as Broadway shows Guys and Dolls, The Wiz, and Comin’ Uptown.
The musician also composed theatrical scores for the plays The Sun Do More, The Amen Corner, Blackbirds and Langston Hughes’ Harlem Sweet.
He passed away on Thursday (10Mar11) of diabetes complications.
