Reality TV producer BRUCE BERESFORD-REDMAN has suffered a blow in his extradition battle against charges of homicide - U.S. judicial officials have sided with Mexican prosecutors and plan to make sure he faces trial.
The man behind hit show Survivor is accused of involvement in the killing of his wife, Monica, whose body was found in a sewer near the couple’s hotel in Cancun last April (10).
Beresford-Redman fled Mexico and returned to Los Angeles shortly after the tragedy, and he has since been charged with aggravated homicide.
U.S. authorities actioned a formal extradition request from prosecutors in November (10) and took the producer into custody as his lawyer fought plans to send him back to Mexico to stand trial.
Representatives at the U.S. Justice Department reiterated their support for the Mexican officials’ request on Monday (14Mar11), and the case for extradition will now be heard by a Los Angeles judge on 16 May (11).
Beresford-Redman has maintained his innocence, but has yet to formally enter a plea.
