STING’S SON LOSES OUT ON EUROVISION BID

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:20 pm

STING’s son JOE SUMNER’s hopes of representing Austria at the annual Eurovision Song Contest were dashed on Friday (25Feb11) after citizens chose a native pop star to perform for their country.
The 34 year old Brit took time out from his band Fiction Plane to join Austrian act Klimmstein to compete in the final stages of the country’s selection process, where voters choose an act to represent the nation at the music competition.
Klimmstein competed against fellow hopefuls Nadine Beiler and Trackshittaz, but only managed to come third when the viewers’ votes came in.
Beiler, with her English balled The Secret is Love, came out the champion. She will sing for Austria at the event in Dusseldorf, Germany, in May (11).

Rockers LIAM and NOEL GALLAGHER’s estranged father has received a police warning after he lashed out at a neighbour in a bust-up over a parking spot outside his home in Manchester, England.

An onlooker tells the newspaper, "His language was awful. There were children present and I think the woman was really frightened."

GAGA CREATES TWO BORN THIS WAY PROMOS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:17 pm

LADY GAGA hopes to make up for some fans’ disappointment in her highly-anticipated single BORN THIS WAY by creating two separate videos for the song.
The superstar released the lead track off her upcoming album of the same name to much fanfare earlier this month (Feb11), but immediately came under fire from some fans and critics who claimed it was a rip-off of Madonna’s Express Yourself hit.
She insisted she had Madonna’s "complete support" for her track, and the star proved her popularity when Born This Way shot straight to the top of America’s Billboard Hot 100.
And Gaga has announced fans will be given an extra promo which will be a "stripped down" version of the song - with part of the profits of sales on iTunes going to charity.
She tells Gayle King, "I do have some exciting news about the new single. I’ve been so excited about (the) reaction and seeing the fans be so excited during the show every time we play Born This Way, it’s been really amazing. I’ve made two music videos for the song.
"So there’s one that’s coming out on Monday. But then I’m actually putting together another video, which is a more stripped-down version of the song that will be released on iTunes and also released as an audio file. A portion of the money raised selling the song is actually going to go towards an anti-bully charity."

SPECTOR NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE PRISON FOR LEGAL FEES TRIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:17 pm

Prison authorities are refusing to allow jailed music producer PHIL SPECTOR to attend court when his bid to recoup $1 million (£666,700) in legal fees from a celebrity attorney goes before a jury on 7 March (11).
Spector is serving 19 years behind bars for the fatal shooting of actress Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra, California home in 2003, for which he was convicted in May 2009.
He is embroiled in a legal fight with lawyer Robert Shapiro, who he hired as his first legal counsel after the shooting.
Spector paid huge fees to Shapiro, who’s also represented O.J. Simpson, but later parted ways with the high-profile lawyer and went on to be convicted of second-degree murder after two trials.
Spector is demanding a refund of the fees, amounting to $1 million, and in December (10) Judge Malcolm Mackey ruled the case should be heard before a jury.
However, at a pre-trial hearing on Friday (25Feb11), Spector’s new lawyer Michael Dempsey told Judge Mackey that bosses at California’s Corcoran State Prison will not allow for the shamed producer to be moved for the trial.
He will now testify via a taped deposition.

JUDGE THROWS OUT CHEF’S SEINFELD COMPLAINT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:14 pm

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against JERRY SEINFELD by a chef who accused the comic of wrecking her reputation when he mocked her during a U.S. TV interview in 2007.
Missy Chase Lapine sued the funnyman’s wife Jessica in 2008, claiming Seinfeld’s bestselling cookbook Deceptively Delicious had been "brazenly plagiarised" from her own tome, The Sneaky Chef.
The suit was thrown out of court in 2009 and a subsequent appeal was dismissed the following year (10).
Chase Lapine also filed suit against Seinfeld for damaging her reputation after he dubbed her a "wacko" during an interview with David Letterman when quizzed over his wife’s legal battle.
However, Justice Marcy Friedman refused to allow the case to go any further on Friday (25Feb11) when she dismissed the complaint, insisting it’s clear the star was joking during the interview.
A lawyer for Seinfeld says, "(The) decision is a complete victory for Jerry - and also a victory for the First Amendment and the right of comedians to tell jokes. The decision also vindicates (publishers) HarperCollins and Jessica Seinfeld yet again, confirming what the two different federal courts have already ruled: Jessica independently created her bestselling book, Deceptively Delicious."

POLANSKI AND TARANTINO HONOURED AT FRANCE’S CESAR AWARDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:14 pm

ROMAN POLANSKI was named the best director at the Cesar Awards in France on Friday (25Feb11), while QUENTIN TARANTINO was honoured for his film achievements.
The Pulp Fiction moviemaker was hailed "a great international artist" at the 2011 event in Paris, France, which was hosted by Jodie Foster.
Polanski received the revered best director prize in his adopted homeland for The Ghost Writer, which also won awards for screenplay, music and editing.
The awards were especially poignant as Polanski was shooting the movie when he was arrested in Zurich, Switzerland in September 2009 over a sex charge dating back to the 1970s. He was released in July (10) after Swiss officials refused to extradite him to the U.S. and he returned to France.
However, the movie missed out on the best film prize, which went to French-made religious drama Of Gods and Men.

TAMBOR QUITS CAGE ROLE DAYS AFTER TAKING OVER FROM GRAMMER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:14 pm

Actor JEFFREY TAMBOR has quit his role in Broadway hit LA CAGE AUX FOLLES just days after taking over from KELSEY GRAMMER.
The former Frasier star wowed critics with his portrayal of suave club owner Georges in the drag queen extravaganza, and cemented his love of the show by marrying fiancee Kayte Walsh at the Longacre Theater on Friday (25Feb11).
Arrested Development star Tambor stepped into Grammer’s shoes last week (ends18Feb11), but received less than rave reviews from theatre critics who described his start on the stage as "shaky".
Tambor has now quit the production, with a rep for the theatre revealing the actor struggled to keep up with the hectic performance schedule due to a recent hip-replacement operation.
The spokesperson says, "Jeffrey was experiencing complications from hip surgery, and the pain and the challenge of performing in a musical eight times a week proved to be too physically demanding. We respect his talent enormously and regretfully accept his withdrawal." Tambor has been replaced by understudy Chris Hoch.

DOUGLAS DEFENDS ZETA-JONES AFTER PAPARAZZO ‘PUNCH’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:38 am

MICHAEL DOUGLAS became embroiled in a scuffle with paparazzi in London on Thursday (24Feb11) after his wife CATHERINE ZETA-JONES accused one photographer of punching her in the face.
The Hollywood couple had spent the day at royal residence Buckingham Palace, where Zeta-Jones was honoured as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Charles, Prince of Wales.
The stars were chauffeured back to their hotel in the British capital, but they encountered trouble as they exited their car and had to fight their way through a horde of snappers waiting at the entrance to their residence.
In video footage of the brawl, obtained by U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, Zeta-Jones can be heard shouting, "How dare you punch me!" at one overzealous paparazzo as they enter the hotel lobby.
She then demands, "I want a police officer right now. He punched me! The guy coming in here, he punched me!" Douglas leaps to his wife’s defence and stares menacingly at the alleged attacker, branding him an "a**hole" before appearing to grab the photographer and push him as hotel security rush to separate the two men.
It is not known whether an official police complaint was filed over the incident, which spoiled a "fabulous" day for the Douglases, according to the Wall Street star’s publicist Allen Burry.
Referring to the video, he tells Entertainment Tonight, "You saw it for yourself. Otherwise, the trip and the ceremony were fabulous and such a joy for everyone."

ROBERTS SURPRISES RUDD TO PRESENT HONORARY IRISHMAN AWARD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:38 am

JULIA ROBERTS poked fun at her pal PAUL RUDD’s lack of Irish ancestry on Thursday (24Feb11) as she presented the actor with an award from the U.S.-Irish Alliance.
The I Love You, Man star was named as the recipient of the organisation’s 2011 Honorary Irishman title and he was feted at the Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film event in Los Angeles.
Roberts made a surprise appearance at the prizegiving to pay tribute to Rudd, her co-star in a 2006 Broadway production of Three Days of Rain, and she made the audience chuckle by joking about the actor’s heritage.
Pointing out that Rudd was actually born to Jewish immigrants from England, she told the crowd, "This is so crazy, really, Paul Rudd - Paul McRudd - is Jewish, not Irish! "Maybe I can become Irish. My middle name is Fiona, which is a step closer to being Irish than Paul Rudd was five minutes ago."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:36 am

ANGELINA JOLIE has gifted her partner BRAD PITT with a symbol of her love after hiring a top London jeweller to design a unique diamond pendant for her beau.
The Hollywood actress commissioned Robert Procop to design the piece, which is based on Ancient Egyptian amulets that contained hidden messages and is believed to have cost Jolie a six-figure sum.
And she’s had a special message engraved on the pendant for Pitt.
Procop tells DailyMail.co.uk, "The hidden message is lasered on. I can’t tell you what it says, and you would need a microscope to read it!" It’s not the first time Jolie has worked with Procop - she teamed up with the designer last year (10) to create her own line of jewellery, The Style of Jolie.

FIASCO IS JAPANESE CARTOON FRONTMAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:35 am

Rapper LUPE FIASCO has confirmed he’s the brains behind punk band JAPANESE CARTOON - two years after insisting he was simply an admirer of the group.
The Superstar MC was rumoured to have teamed up with the new act in 2009 to provide vocals for two tracks posted on their MySpace.com page, under the alias Percival Fats.
Members of Japanese Cartoon denied the claims in a post online and U.S. rapper Fiasco also spoke out to dismiss the rumours after fans became convinced he could be heard singing on the songs.
But Fiasco has now come clean - revealing he formed Japanese Cartoon and adopted a British accent to front the group after coming up with a song idea that didn’t fit his image.
He tells Nylon magazine, "I had a riff in my head and I had a friend who played bass in the studio… and another guy who played drums and another guy on guitar, and I put some distortion on my voice and sang in a British accent and… you got punk.
"It was just something I had to do… Those are the songs I’ll sing when I’m in the shower or driving in a car."
