BARRINO BOYCOTTED GRAMMYS OVER FRANKLIN SNUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:38 pm

Singer FANTASIA BARRINO boycotted the Grammy Awards on Sunday (13Feb11) because she wasn’t asked to be part of the ARETHA FRANKLIN tribute that opened the show.
The former American Idol winner won her first Grammy for Best Female Vocal Performance but wasn’t there to pick up the honour.
Barrino called in to BET’s 106 & Park show on Monday (14Feb11) to explain her reasons for staying away from music’s big night.
She said, "They were honouring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favourite, so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage, so, I kind of did my own little thing last night." But she was thrilled to win a Grammy after 11 nominations: "Actually I scared my daughter because I just bust out and started crying, and she thought something was wrong with me. You know it’s been a long time coming." Christina Aguilera, Yolanda Adams and Jennifer Hudson were among the divas who saluted an absent Franklin at the Grammys.

HOUSE STAR EDELSTEIN PLAYS ABORTION VICTIM IN HARROWING NEW AD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:35 pm

HOUSE star LISA EDELSTEIN has filmed a harrowing new TV ad in which she acts out an abortion gone wrong.
The actress plays a 1950s woman staggering down a dark hallway in the new MoveOn commercial, which takes aim at U.S. Republican politicians, who are seeking to stamp out medical insurance coverage for abortions.
The ad illustrates the dangerous conditions women historically faced around reproductive choices.
Edelstein states, "Decades ago, women suffered through horrifying back alley abortions. Or, they used dangerous methods when they had no other recourse." The ad goes on to point out that the Republicans have recently launched an attack on a woman’s right to choose, referring to the fact that in the last several weeks they have introduced bills which, among other things, would effectively prevent women from using their own money to purchase insurance that includes abortion coverage, and that would allow hospitals to let a pregnant woman die rather than perform a life-saving abortion.
The actress, who plays a single mum on House, says, "I decided to do this ad because I believe that every woman needs to know the grave danger that women’s reproductive rights are facing in Congress right now. I hope that women across America tell Congress that these bills are an attack on women’s health and that they are unacceptable." The ad ends with a terrified Edelstein, dressed in modern day clothing, tearfully opening a closet door to reveal a wire clothes hanger, a scene symbolically associated with the dangerous situations women were forced into before they gained reproductive rights.

BILLY ELLIOT PRODUCERS SUED OVER PROP MISHAP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:32 pm

The producers of Broadway show BILLY ELLIOT: THE MUSICAL have been slapped with a $4 million (£2.67 million) lawsuit from two women who were hospitalised after they were allegedly struck by a stage prop in 2009.
Missouri natives Elaine Rosen and Cynthia Noblit, who had front row seats to the 23 November, 2009 show at the Imperial Theatre, were hospitalised after an object flew off the stage and reportedly hit them in the face during a song-and-dance routine towards the end of the first act.
The plaintiffs’ lawyer, Steven Halperin, claims Rosen, 54, has been left with a "permanent scar" on her face, while Noblit, 60, suffered concussion.
According to the New York Post, the incident prompted theatre bosses to make slight alterations to the Tony Award-winning play to avoid any future incidents, and they invited Rosen and Noblit back to attend another production of the musical.
In the legal papers, the producers are accused of "general negligence (for) arranging a hazardous and dangerous choreography" and "failing to give… any notice or warning" to members of the audience.

MUNIZ CAUGHT UP IN BIZARRE FIGHT STORY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:32 pm

Another former child star is in trouble with the law - FRANKIE MUNIZ is named in a police report about a fiery domestic dispute, during which he reportedly held a loaded gun to his head.
The former Malcolm in the Middle star also allegedly punched his girlfriend during an argument on Friday night (11Feb11).
Phoenix, Arizona police officials were called to the actor’s home after an altercation between Muniz and his girlfriend, Elycia Turnbow, escalated. Turnbow told cops that her boyfriend "grabbed a gun and held it to his head, possibly with the intent of committing suicide".
His actions prompted her to call a friend and ask him to take the actor to hospital.
Muniz insists he went to hospital after banging his head in a fall.
In his report, the actor insists he never put a gun to his head, but did grab the case holding the unloaded pistol.
Cops did find the gun - and it was loaded, according to TMZ.com.
Muniz and Turnbow continued to fight after he returned home following his release from hospital and his girlfriend claims the actor punched her and threw her into a wall.
The former child star has denied assaulting his girlfriend, telling police, "I love her too much. She is the woman I want to marry." He added that the drama began when Turnbow started yelling at him and hitting him in the face as he tried to sleep.
Reports suggest the fight was over ex-lovers. The couple has been warned another altercation like Friday night’s will result in a jail spell.
A statement from a representative for Muniz reads, "Frankie and Elycia had an argument a few days ago. The police were called to the residence. A gun played no part in the argument and was voluntarily given to the police for safekeeping. There were no bruises and neither left the residence. He was not suicidal. She was not assaulted." And it seems the drama is over - the rep adds, "They are moving forward with their lives and with their relationship."

SHOW CREATOR BLASTS SHEEN WITH TV MESSAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:26 pm

The creator of CHARLIE SHEEN’s hit sitcom TWO AND A HALF MEN has risked the wrath of the show’s star after poking fun at his personal troubles in a brief message tagged onto the end of Monday night’s (14Feb11) episode.
TV bosses at CBS suspended filming on the Chuck Lorre comedy at the end of January (11) to allow Sheen time to undergo rehab treatment, but the actor stunned fans on Monday (14Feb11) when he phoned into a U.S. radio show and told presenter Dan Patrick he was ready and willing to work - and blamed CBS executives for holding up production.
Sheen, 45, said, "We’re on forced hiatus. They said, ‘You get ready, we’ll get ready’, and I got ready and went back and… no one’s there. I’m here and I’m ready. They’re not. Bring it!" Representatives for CBS and 58-year-old Lorre have yet to formally respond to Sheen’s claims, but the Two and a Half Men creator decided to air his grievances with the star’s alleged drinking, drug taking and sexual exploits in a post which ran on U.S. TV for just a few seconds on Monday night.
Part of the message read: "I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. I don’t do drugs. I don’t have crazy, reckless sex with strangers. If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I’m gonna be really p**sed." It’s not the first time Lorre has used the end credits of the programme to express his views - he ran a similar message earlier this year (11) after Sheen hit the headlines for some of his other off-camera antics.
Sheen hit the headlines last month (Jan11) after a wild night of partying with porn stars and pals at his Hollywood home ended with a hospital visit. The actor was reportedly treated for a hernia. Upon his release from hospital, Sheen signed up for an at-home rehab stint.

MIKA LOGS ONLINE FOR LOVE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:23 pm

British pop star MIKA is a big fan of online dating - because the internet allows him to approach suitors he would never have the courage to ask out in person.
The Grace Kelly hitmaker admits the first virtual date he organised via MySpace.com five years ago was a disaster - but it hasn’t kept him from logging on to look for love.
In a column for La Repubblica, Mika writes, "MySpace, the Facebook of yesterday. Where our pictures were always better than the reality and our words typed always more entertaining than the ones spoken. Since then internet dating has become so much the norm…
"Isn’t that the best thing about the internet? You can approach someone that you would never be brave enough to, or even have time to in real life." And the singer reveals he even uses his computer to research people he meets in the real world.
He adds, "Let’s face it, anyone with an internet connection does it in some way. Even if you meet someone for the first time in the flesh, if you’re interested you go online and see what you can dig up. We find ourselves piecing together their life, from holiday snaps with drunk friends, to whether they have children or if the pictures of them alone seem too egocentric or staged. At the end of all the online digging you might as well had met online. Perhaps there really isn’t a difference any more."

She says, "I’d been thinking about it for a long, long time, but mostly because of my daughter. I didn’t want her to think education wasn’t important… You really need an education, especially in this day and age." However, Wilson reveals she’s been attempting to go back to school for some time: "The last time I tried to go back and get my GED, they told me I couldn’t because I wasn’t at the age that I would have graduated at."
