MELVINS CAUGHT UP IN NEW ZEALAND EARTHQUAKE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:29 am

Rocker BUZZ OSBORNE was left terrified after his band the MELVINS was caught up in New Zealand’s earthquake last week (22Feb11).
The group has been touring the country and was due to fly from Christchurch airport on Tuesday (22Feb11) when the quake struck.
Osborne admits he "ran" from the building after feeling the ground shake, and is relieved he escaped serious injury in the disaster, which has so far claimed at least 145 lives, with approximately 200 people still unaccounted for.
The star tells Spinner, "We were at the airport just seconds away from checking our bags when the first big rolling quake hit.
"If the building would have came down at that point we would have been crushed like dumb chickens. As soon as that one was over, we grabbed all of our bags and passports and ran for the door."

MCERLAINE FORGOT ABOUT TEXAS DURING BRAIN HAEMORRHAGE RECOVERY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:29 am

Rocker ALISTAIR MCERLAINE completely forgot he was part of chart-topping band TEXAS after suffering memory loss following his brain haemorrhage in 2009.
The guitarist endured a stint in an intensive care unit after he collapsed at his London home.
He spent months under doctors’ care and had to relearn several everyday tasks after his memory was affected by the haemorrhage - and McErlaine admits he even forgot his band exists.
He tells The Scottish Sun, "I had to learn to do everything again. The first thing I really remember was being told how to brush my teeth. I was propped up in my hospital bed, handed a toothbrush with toothpaste on it - and promptly stuck it in my ear. I had no idea what to do with it.
"It makes me laugh thinking about it now. I could remember things which had happened as a kid, but not being in Texas. I didn’t even know what a band was. I had a five second ‘goldfish’ memory at the time. They would say things like ‘You’re in hospital’, then they’d wait five seconds and ask where I was and I’d say ‘Norwich?’ I was saying some crazy things."

MORRISON TURNED OFF CAREER IN MEDICINE AFTER DELIVERY ROOM EXPERIENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:26 am

Actor MATTHEW MORRISON was turned off the idea of following his father into midwifery after witnessing a woman give birth.
The Glee star’s dad was a medic in the U.S. army and Morrison admits he always admired the pride his father took in his work.
But any chances of Morrison pursuing a similar career were dashed for good after shadowing his dad in a hospital delivery room.
He says, "I had this fascination with my dad, I was so proud of him… So my senior year of high school, it was like ‘Take your son to work day’, but there were no other kids there, it was just me.
"So I went into the delivery room and I had the surgical mask, a little visor so you could only see my eyes… But I saw the screaming and the blood and I was like, yeah, think I’m gonna keep singing and dancing for a living!"

OSCAR WINNER LEO APOLOGISES FOR OFFENDING WITH ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:23 am

Oscar winner MELISSA LEO has apologised for any offence caused by her Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech after letting slip the F-word during Sunday’s (27Feb11) live telecast.
The 50-year-old star was one of the first honorees of the night, claiming the prize for her gritty role as tough-talking Alice Ward, mother of Boston, Massachusetts boxing legends Micky Ward and Dick Ecklund, in The Fighter.
But the nervous actress, who admitted she was "shaking in my boots", accidentally turned the air blue as she marvelled at the packed audience at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre.
She gasped, "When I watched Kate (Winslet, 2008 Oscar winner) two (sic) years ago it looked so f**king easy!" Leo’s blunder prompted her fellow Oscar honouree and The Fighter co-star Christian Bale to joke about the mishap as he collected gold for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Referring to his infamous rant on the set of Terminator Salvation, he laughed, "Melissa, I’m not gonna drop the F-bomb, I’ve done that plenty before!" However, Leo made an effort to make amends for the slip-up after she came off stage at the prestigious ceremony.
Speaking to reporters backstage, she said, "Those words - I apologise to anyone if they offend. There’s a great deal of the English language that is in my vernacular. I really don’t mean to offend, and probably a very inappropriate place to use that particular word." Leo wasn’t the only The Fighter star celebrating at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards - Christian Bale walked away with the Best Supporting Actor accolade.

CRYER HAS NOT MADE SHEEN STATEMENT ON TWITTER, SAYS REP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:56 am

JON CRYER’s publicist has denied reports the actor has opened up about the scandal surrounding his hit sitcom TWO AND A HALF MEN and the show’s star CHARLIE SHEEN on Twitter.com, insisting he doesn’t even have an account.
The future of the TV comedy has been thrown into doubt after a public falling out between Charlie Sheen and writer Chuck Lorre after the troubled actor launched a vicious attack on the show creator through the press.
The rant prompted producers to pull the show for the rest of the season, and Cryer purportedly took his Twitter page to tell fans he was "too sad" about the news.
However, a spokesperson for Cryer insists he has made no such statement - because he has never been a user of the micro-blogging site.
The rep says, "Actually, Jon does not have a Facebook or Twitter account. I would love for you to let folks know this is all bogus."

MAJOR LEAGUE DIRECTOR DEFENDS SHEEN AS A CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:53 am

MAJOR LEAGUE director DAVID WARD has spoken out in defence of "professional" CHARLIE SHEEN, just days after a studio boss warned the embattled actor would be booted from the baseball film sequel if he doesn’t "straighten up".
Sheen’s troubles have mounted in recent weeks after he was hospitalised in January (11) following a wild night of partying with his porn star pals, before undergoing a rehab stint at his Los Angeles home.
A string of scandals have since put his future on TV sitcom Two and a Half Men in doubt - producers axed the show for the rest of the season after he launched a vicious verbal attack on programme creator Chuck Lorre.
Sheen is due to star in the upcoming third installment of the Major League franchise, but he received a stern warning from Morgan Creek Productions CEO James G. Robinson last week (ends27Feb11), demanding he clean up his act or risk losing his role in the picture.
Robinson told TMZ.com he did not want a repeat of the drama he went through with Lindsay Lohan on the set of Georgia Rule, when she failed to show up for work on several occasions.
But filmmaker Ward is confident of Sheen’s ability to keep his personal issues separate from his work commitments - and insists he’s never seen the actor appear anything but hardworking on set.
Ward tells the New York Post, "Charlie’s a rebel. Maybe he hasn’t seemed as likeable as he usually is, but it’s his persona and people know in their hearts that he’s not a mean guy.
"He has a high tolerance (for drugs and alcohol). I’m concerned anytime I feel like he’s drinking too much or doing drugs, but if there’s anyone who can handle it, it’s him. I’ve never seen him affected professionally by anything he’s done off the set.
"I remember one day when he threw 138 pitches. That’s more than a Major League pitcher throws. And he threw 84 miles an hour. His arm was sore for a week, but he never complained and never stopped.â€

SHAKIRA HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION AT HARVARD CEREMONY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:53 am

Colombian superstar SHAKIRA turned the spotlight on education in developing countries on Saturday (26Feb11) as she was honoured at Harvard University.
The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker, a former history student at the University of California, Los Angeles, was named Harvard Foundation’s 2011 Artist of the Year in recognition of her career achievements and humanitarian work, following in the footsteps of previous winners Will Smith, Sharon Stone and Jackie Chan.
Joking about the accolade, the 34 year old told the crowd at the Massachusetts ceremony, "As I entered the premises today, I had to call my mum and say, ‘Hey mum. Guess what? I got into Harvard!’" But Shakira’s acceptance speech then took a serious turn as she called on students at the prestigious school to do more to help improve education for poor kids around the world.
She said, "Not everyone can study at Harvard University. But everyone, wherever they live, whatever their background, deserves a chance to make the most of his or her potential.
"And as a child of the developing world, it is my duty to use this voice in every way I can to promote the message about the power of education to change lives." Shakira, a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, has been working to improve education and nutrition to kids from impoverished areas of her native Colombia since establishing the Barefoot Foundation when she was 18.

BECKHAM ‘HUGELY APOLOGETIC’ FOR DISABLED PARKING ERROR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:53 am

VICTORIA BECKHAM has been forced to apologise to a severely ill woman after the star’s driver occupied the last remaining disabled parking space at a toy store in Essex, England.
The pop star-turned-fashion designer visited the Toys R Us retailer last Sunday (20Feb11) in Harlow, Essex with her sister Louise to pick up balloons for her son Cruz’s birthday party.
Her chauffeur stopped her black Jaguar right outside the store, using a parking spot allocated for disabled users only.
Chantelle Hughes, who suffers from gentic disease Cystic Fibrosis, waited for the car to move out of the space so she could point out the error to the driver - but was shocked when she saw the famous star.
She tells Britain’s Mail on Sunday, "Victoria Beckham needs to realise that disabled people could have parked there. She needs to think about it next time." Beckham has now apologised for her driver’s actions through her spokesperson, who says, "This was a momentary lapse in judgement by Victoria’s driver, not something that Victoria was aware of or would ever condone.
"Victoria is of course, hugely apologetic for any inconvenience that may have been caused."

MANSON BANS FANS FROM SENDING HER AUDITION CDS

GARBAGE rocker SHIRLEY MANSON is refusing to accept any recorded material from fans eager to make it in the music industry - in case she accidentally copies their work.
The singer/actress is bombarded by wannabe rockers’ audition CDs in a bid for the star to help them land a record contract.
But Manson has urged fans to stop sending in the recordings for their own good - insisting the ban is in place to protect their work from plagiarism and herself from any potential lawsuits.
She says, "I am so sorry but I am no longer able to listen to all the amazing songs you are writing. It’s a formality that in place to protect you in case I steal your ideas and use them for myself. I am so sad about it but it’s the way it has to be."

OSBOURNE BURIES MINOGUE FEUD AND WANTS X FACTOR RETURN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:50 am

SHARON OSBOURNE is ready to bury her longrunning feud with Aussie pop star DANNII MINOGUE and return to Britain’s THE X FACTOR - insisting "it’s time for me to come home".
The two famously fell out while working on Simon Cowell’s U.K. talent show, and their dispute prompted the rock matriarch to quit her role as a judge on the highly popular programme in 2007.
The pair has continued its war of words off camera in the years since - Osbourne launching several foul-mouthed rants in the Aussie star’s direction, while Minogue hit back in her autobiography, insisting the former music manager made her cry and even shouted at her when she first joined the TV show.
But Osbourne insists she has moved past the feud and grown to respect Minogue - and she is now vying for her old judging spot on the X Factor panel.
She tells Britain’s Sunday Mirror, "It’s fair enough to say we didn’t get on for a long time. But that’s all in the past. Dannii used to just be an old Eighties disco queen to me but now she’s blossomed into a true woman and I have respect for her.
"I would love to return to The X Factor and sit alongside Louis (Walsh, fellow judge) and Dannii. It’s time for me to come home." However, the star is convinced Cowell will put up a fight to prevent her return - because he won’t be able to control her when he leaves the panel to launch the show Stateside. Reports suggest he will be joined on the U.S. version with current U.K. judge Cheryl Cole.
Osbourne adds, "Simon doesn’t want me back. He’s definitely keeping Dannii and Louis on the show when he and Cheryl Cole go to the U.S. but he’s not even asked me about returning. I think he’s scared about not being able to control me if he’s away in America! But they’re good judges. I’d keep Dannii any day - I really would."

MCERLAINE ‘ALMOST DIED’ DURING BRAIN HAEMORRHAGE BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:47 am

TEXAS star ALISTAIR MCERLAINE has opened up about his fight for life after a brain haemorrhage, revealing he was "pretty much dead" several times during his health battle.
The guitarist collapsed in September 2009 and spent a month in an intensive care unit following an operation in London.
McErlaine has now revealed all about his health crisis, explaining how his songwriter wife Shelly discovered him collapsed in their living room one morning.
He tells The Scottish Sun newspaper, "To all intents and purposes I was dead… Fortunately the ambulance crew got there in seven minutes and whisked me to hospital where I was undergoing brain surgery within the hour. The medics’ speedy response and the doctors’ quick actions undoubtedly saved my life.
"I had suffered a ‘grade five’ aneurysm, which is the worst sort you can have… it covered my whole brain. My surgeon told Shelly that 80 per cent of grade fives never made it to hospital; they usually drop dead on the spot. And the ones who do make it into intensive care usually die there. So the chances of me surviving were less than one per cent. I was pretty much dead on more than one occasion." The rocker reveals he suffered several complications during his time under doctors’ care - and required several extra procedures as a result.
He adds, "I had lots of setbacks too with brain infections, which would mean being rushed in for another emergency operation. The problem was I spent so long in intensive care - a month in total - that it leaves you prone to other infections. I also caught pneumonia too and had around eight or nine operations it total. It was grim." McErlaine has since been given a clean bill of health - and he’s planning to take part in the Great Scottish Run for charity later this year (11). He adds, "After three months in a coma and two months in a wheelchair, running has given me a tremendous amount of freedom."
