STEWART SUPPORTS ASSISTED DYING CAMPAIGN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:23 am

SIR PATRICK STEWART is backing a campaign calling for a change in U.K. law over the right to assisted dying.
The X-Men star wants those who are terminally ill but mentally competent to be legally allowed to die at their request.
Stewart has joined Atonement author Ian McEwan and England cricket ace Chris Broad as a patron for the Dignity In Dying cause.
He says, "We have no control over how we arrive in the world but at the end of a life we should have control over how we leave it." And McEwan, who began campaigning after his friend Dr Ann McPherson fell terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, adds, "People who have a definite terminal illness and who are mentally competent and who want to be able to die and to do so on their own terms should be able to do so without criminalising the people around them.
"There is a lot of unnecessary suffering caused by people either having to leave their homeland to go and die or people having to criminalise near family and friends. The case seems to be quite overwhelming.
"The issue is not really of death but of how you live out that last chapter, those last sentences. To do it calmly with all the people around you that have mattered and you love in familiar surroundings should be a wonderful thing - not to be writhing on a hospital bed or sitting glumly several hundred miles away from home."

DAMON CAN’T TALK SODERBERGH OUT OF SEMI-RETIREMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:53 am

MATT DAMON fears pal STEVEN SODERBERGH is deadly serious about his plans to quit moviemaking and devote his life to becoming an artist - even he can’t talk him out of his career switch.
The actor is worried the upcoming Liberace biopic, in which he’ll play the pianist’s gay lover, will be the last time he’ll get the chance to work with the director.
Damon, Soderbergh and Michael Douglas plan to make a start on the film next year (12) after a series of hold-ups - and it could be the moviemaker’s swansong.
Damon tells The Orlando Sentinel, "It’s his life to do with what he wants.
"I’ve talked at length with Steven about it. He is going away for a while, I think. He genuinely wants to paint. And he feels if he really dedicates himself he can be really good. He’s not yet 50. He will put in the hours. He has a work ethic like nobody I’ve ever seen. He feels if he puts a hard decade of work in, he could really be doing something.
"But I see it as a waste of this incredible depth of knowledge of filmmaking. But his thing is form. He says, ‘I’m only interested in what I can do with form. I’ve made almost every movie I want to. And if I see another over-the-shoulder shot, I’m going to kill myself.’ "I said to him, right after I did Invictus, ‘Steven, I just finished a movie with a guy in his 70s (Clint Eastwood) who still charges out of bed every morning because he can’t wait to get to the set. He has a blast and is really loving it and he’s been doing it a lot longer than either of us.’ "And without a blink, Steven says, ‘But Clint’s a storyteller. A great storyteller. I’m not interested in stories. I’m interested in form.’"

GELDOF SMASHED TARANTINO’S KILL BILL CAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:50 am

Socialite PEACHES GELDOF infuriated moviemaker QUENTIN TARANTINO when she was dating his pal ELI ROTH - she crashed into the ‘Pussy Wagon’ from KILL BILL.
The daughter of rocker Bob began dating Roth early last year (10) and spent much of her time with the actor in Los Angeles.
However, Geldof risked the wrath of Tarantino when a day out in the city ended in disaster.
She tells Britain’s Buzz magazine, "I can’t actually drive, but Eli let me take a spin in Quentin’s car down Mulholland Road in L.A., which is a crazy road anyway.
"Quentin was in front driving the actual Pussy Wagon pick-up truck that was in Kill Bill, and I took my eye off the road for a second and crashed into it. They were both not happy, and it was a very stressful situation. I just kept saying: ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry!’" The couple split in October (10).

FOXY BROWN THROWN OUT OF FASHION SHOW PARTY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:50 am

Hip-hop star FOXY BROWN was asked to leave a fashion show she was booked to perform at in New York last week (16Feb11).
TMZ.com reports the I’ll Be hitmaker allegedly turned up at the Indashio event late and intoxicated.
She was so late, the party was almost over when she arrived - and guests were leaving.
The website claims Foxy locked herself in a bathroom and refused to come out.
Event organisers aren’t the only ones questioning Brown’s attitude and behaviour - producer Daddy Digg$ recently slammed the hip-hop star for missing a number of studio sessions and is planning to take legal action over her "deceptive" antics.
Digg$ told the New York Daily News, "She can’t meet deadlines on anything… Very deceptive, and it hurts the credibility of our companies." Meanwhile, her former manager Bernadette Brennan has accused the star of indulging in "self-destructive behaviour" and is threatening legal action of her own to recoup money from missed studio time.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:47 am

TOM HARDY has finally received his British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) trophy, after snubbing the ceremony earlier this month (Feb11) to go on holiday.
The Inception actor landed the Rising Star Award ahead of fellow nominees Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Aaron Johnson and Gemma Arterton - but he was not at the ceremony to claim his prize.
Hardy admits he chose to miss the BAFTAs to go on holiday with fiancee Charlotte Riley and his son, Louis, from a previous relationship - because he never expected to land the prize.
He tells U.K. TV host Alan Carr, "I was about to go away to Georgia for six weeks and start a new film. I had a choice whether to go away before with my missus and my little boy or go to the BAFTAs.
"We watched it on TV and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ I never expected to win so thank you." Carr presented Hardy with the award during an interview, which is set to air in the U.K. on Monday (21Feb11).

AUDIENCE MEMBER UPSET, CAUSES DISTURBANCE DURING MAHER SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:44 am

U.S. comedian BILL MAHER’s live political debate show REAL TIME was interrupted by an angry audience member on Friday night (18Feb11).
The comic was talking to moviemaker Kevin Smith, broadcaster Tavis Smiley and two political pundits about the treatment of women in Muslim countries, like Egypt, when an unseen man started yelling from the audience.
Maher and his guests attempted to laugh off the interruption, but the protester started yelling at security staff as they tried to evict him from the studio, stating, "Do not touch me; that’s battery… I will leave of my own accord." But he continued shouting at Maher, apparently upset by comments the comic had made about the 9/11 terrorist attacks on a previous show.
The host joked, "That went better in rehearsals," and then added, "I once had to go into that crowd and throw a guy out myself - and I think I might have to do it again."

MOSS DESIGNING HER OWN WEDDING DRESS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:26 am

British supermodel KATE MOSS is planning to design her own wedding dress, according to fashion mogul VIVIENNE WESTWOOD.
The beauty is busy planning her summer (11) nuptials after longtime boyfriend Jamie Hince proposed last month (Jan11), but rather than turn to one of her designer friends and ask them to create her wedding dress, Moss is dreaming up her own one-of-a-kind perfect gown.
Westwood says, "I think she’s designing it herself. She has done her own fashion range and she knows about clothes. She knows what she is doing, she doesn’t need my help.
"Kate is a mate. I’ve known her for years and I’m really happy for her."
