STOUTE BLASTS GRAMMY BOSSES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:29 pm

Hip-hop boss STEVE STOUTE has blasted Grammy organisers for snubbing EMINEM and JUSTIN BIEBER in favour of lesser-known artists at this year’s (11) awards.
Record executive Stoute, who is best known as rapper Nas’ manager, was stunned when Eminem lost the Album of the Year prize to cult act Arcade Fire, while little-known jazz performer Esperanza Spalding was named Best New Artist over Bieber.
And he admits the ceremony’s upsets prove that Grammy producers have "lost touch" with pop culture in a quest for high ratings.
Stoute took out a full-page advertisement in the New York Times on Sunday (20Feb11) to express his anger, writing: "Over the course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business… I have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost touch with contemporary popular culture… Where I think that the Grammys fail stems from two key sources: (1) over-zealousness to produce a popular show that is at odds with its own system of voting and (2) fundamental disrespect of cultural shifts as being viable and artistic…
"While artists that the public acknowledges as being worthy of their money and fandom are snubbed year after year at the Grammys, the awards show has absolutely no qualms in inviting these same artists to perform… Interesting that the Grammys understands cultural relevance when it comes to using Eminem’s, Kanye West’s or Justin Bieber’s name in the billing to ensure viewership and to deliver the all-too-important ratings for its advertisers."

DARROW SORRY FOR MOB PLOT SHAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:26 pm

Shamed GOODFELLAS actor TONY DARROW has apologised for his involvement in a real-life Mafia extortion plot - and vowed to make up for his downfall by steering youngsters away from crime.
Darrow, who also starred in 14 episodes of gangster-themed TV series The Sopranos, is facing a possible prison sentence after pleading guilty earlier this month (Feb11) to asking a mob boss to help him collect a debt as a "favour".
The unidentified debtor was later savagely beaten by two thugs linked to New York’s Gambino crime family, and suffered a broken jaw and ribs.
Now Darrow - real name Anthony Borgese - has told of his terror after he was thrown in a cell with hardened crooks, and has filmed a public service announcement in a bid to help troubled youngsters stay away from a life of crime.
He tells the New York Post, "I’m very sorry for what I did. The only way I can change it is by trying to help other people." Darrow reveals he decided to film a public service announcement to send a positive message to youngsters after a conversation about his conviction with his teenage son.
He says, "(My son) said, ‘The guy owed you money; you tried to collect it. You didn’t do anything.’ It made me feel worse. It was not the message I wanted to give him." And the actor is determined to put his past behind him after the trauma of his arrest.
He adds, "They threw me into a cage with 70… criminals. I was the only one who got arrested for the first time… I was so frightened I thought I was going to pee myself."

TAYMOR TO REMAIN IN CHARGE OF SPIDER-MAN MUSICAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:26 pm

A spokesperson for Broadway’s beleaguered SPIDER-MAN musical has dismissed reports producers plan to hire a co-director to assist JULIE TAYMOR.
A recent report in the New York Post suggested bosses were looking for another creative mind to help Taymor helm Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which has been plagued by delays, on-set accidents and negative reviews.
The show’s creators were said to have been eyeing The Boy From Oz director Phil McKinley to help get the controversial show back on track.
But producers have denied the speculation, insisting Taymor will remain in charge as the production’s sole director.
A statement from spokesman Rick Miramontez reads, "There is no truth to the rumor of a co-director. The production has not brought anyone on and the original creative team remains firmly in place, with Julie Taymor at the helm."

KUTCHER TRICKED INTO EATING WORMS ON TV

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:32 am

ASHTON KUTCHER ate fried worms on U.K. TV on Friday night (19Feb11) - after a celebrity chef tricked him into believing they were onions.
The Just Married star was appearing on Britain’s The Graham Norton Show alongside TV cook Heston Blumenthal, who is known for his controversial delicacies.
The chef was asked to cook an American dinner for the celebrity guests - and he unveiled a "chicken hot dog", which included tomato sauce inside the meat, complete with edible napkins emblazoned with a picture of the actor’s face.
But Kutcher was left suspicious when he noticed some curious crispy pieces on top of the sausage.
He asked, "What are these things on top? All of the things on this food looks like the things I fish with… Are we meant to eat the napkin with the dog?" Blumenthal told the baffled star they were fried onions, but as he chewed on his first mouthful he then revealed they were in fact "fried meal worms".
Kutcher then proceeded to try and spit out the food, before admitting, "That is good. Everything’s better when it’s fried."

MOORE MOVED INTO KUTCHER’S HOME DAYS AFTER MEETING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:32 am

DEMI MOORE moved into ASHTON KUTCHER’s bachelor pad less than two weeks after they started dating - but female admirers continued to turn up to the house unaware he was a taken man.
The Hollywood pair started dating in 2003 during a whirlwind romance and they married two years later (05).
Reformed Lothario Kutcher fell straight into a serious relationship with Moore after asking the actress and her three daughters to move in with him just days after their first meeting - but his home was still targeted by keen fans turning up at his front door unannounced.
Now Kutcher reveals it was his stubborn roommate who helped drive the wanton women away.
He tells British TV host Graham Norton, "It was really quick. I was sort of going out and having my fun and being extremely single… and then I met Demi and within about two weeks she moved into my bachelor pad that I was living in with a buddy of mine and my buddy refused to move out.
"But (I) didn’t just move her in, she moved in (with) my three now stepdaughters… this was after about two weeks, a week and a half. She was moving to Los Angeles and she was going to rent a house so I was like, ‘Why would you rent a house? Just come stay with me.’ And then I didn’t really think about the fact, I mean my buddy and I had been living in this house for a while and he really refused to leave. But it was kind of a good thing because it would be the middle of the night… and there would be strangers coming up and ringing the doorbell to come have a visit and he would do a lot of intercepting for me that was very, very handy… It takes a while to slow that train down! "(I was) trying to keep my relationship with Demi private because we don’t want all the press and we managed to do it for a month but you know, in keeping it private I couldn’t like send out a memo to everyone. So my buddy would kind of curb people at the door and it kinda worked out. Eight years later (we’re still together). In Hollywood terms that’s like 81 (years)!"

VANILLA ICE’S NERVES OVER SKATING TO HIS SONG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:29 am

Rapper VANILLA ICE was wracked with nerves before skating on the U.K.’s DANCING ON ICE on Sunday (20Feb11) - because he didn’t want to "humiliate" himself by messing up a performance to his own smash hit.
The hip-hop star donned his figure skates to dance a choreographed routine set to his multi-million selling single Ice Ice Baby on the latest episode of the TV competition.
The hitmaker, real name Robert Van Winkle, admits he feared he would be mocked relentlessly if he fell flat on his face on the show.
After winning a high score from the show’s judges, he told host Philip Schofield, "I never thought I would be skating to Ice Ice Baby. You know, it’s my song so it’s been more pressure than I’ve ever had in this competition to date… You know, it’s my own song. If I humiliate myself on my own song I’ve got to go bury my head like an ostrich somewhere. It’s like, ‘Oh my God, this is the one I’m going to be YouTubed in and (the fans will be) tweeting about.’" But Van Winkle didn’t have to worry - former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, who is on the judging panel, told him, "I know this is about skating ability, but for me your performance - you can tell that you’ve performed to thousands of people all over the world. It got me excited. I want to buy a ticket. I’m a huge fan all over again."

CLEMONS THRILLED AND STUNNED BY GAGA COLLABORATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:29 am

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s longtime saxophonist CLARENCE CLEMONS was left stunned when he received a call from LADY GAGA asking him for his horny talents.
The revered sideman and E Street Band member was installing an exercise machine at his home in Florida when the call came in three weeks ago.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "They (Gaga’s aides) said to me, ‘Lady Gaga wants you to play on her album.’ This is on a Friday afternoon at 4pm. I said, ‘When do you want me to do it? I’m free Monday or Tuesday.’ "They go, ‘No, she needs you right now in New York City’." He immediately dropped everything and headed for the airport: "I almost got a ticket I drove so fast." But he’s glad he made the trip: "It was wild. I was so excited. I’m a Gaga-ite.
"She (Gaga) came running down the hall. She was like ‘Big Man!’ I was like, ‘Holy s**t, man. Damn!’" Clemons played saxophone on Gaga’s song Hair.
Before the sax man started work on the song, Lady Gaga explained the lyrics to him.
He adds, "It made so much sense. It’s a story about growing up. She said, ‘We’ll put the tape on and you just play.’ She said to me, ‘Play from your heart. Play what you feel.’ It was all very pure.
"I play sax through the whole song and I have a solo. I’m surprised I’m getting paid for this. I would have done it for free. I can never believe something that feels so good earns me money." And now he’s a huge fan: "She’s the real deal."
