SPALDING BRUSHES OFF GRAMMY CRITICISM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:14 pm

Jazz star ESPERANZA SPALDING has brushed off the harsh criticism she’s received after beating JUSTIN BIEBER to the Best New Artist Grammy Award at this year’s (11) ceremony, insisting she’s not making music to be popular.
The little-known bassist and singer was a surprise winner at the Grammys, triumphing over more mainstream acts like Bieber, Drake, Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons.
The Grammy upset sparked outrage among fans of teenage pop sensation Bieber, prompting them to post nasty messages on Spalding’s Wikipedia.com profile, which is edited by members of the public.
But Spalding is refusing to let the rude comments stop her from revelling in the limelight.
She tells People magazine, "It’s all good. People are always going to say something. You don’t do music to have people write nice things on your Facebook page." And Spalding reveals she met Bieber shortly after her victory and he came across as a "good dude".

RAPPER BOOSIE WANTS TO BE REMOVED FROM MURDER CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:14 pm

Incarcerated rapper LIL BOOSIE has stepped up his fight against his recent murder charge - the star has filed a court motion accusing prosecutors in Louisiana of targetting him in an act of revenge.
The hip-hop star, real name Torrence Hatch, is due to stand trial amid allegations he was involved in the shooting death of Terry Boyd, who was killed at his home in Louisiana in October, 2009.
Boosie pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder count last June (10) and is due to face a grand jury later this year (11). Two other suspects are also being held in conjunction with the killing.
But Boosie, who is currently serving a four-year sentence for violating his parole from a previous conviction, claims District Attorney Hillar Moore III only pursued legal action against the star after hearing "disparaging comments" he made on his song F**k ‘Em All.
On the track, Boosie spits: "F**k the D.A. and the lawyers/your racist a** is going to hell/You’ll probably be dead when I come out of jail ya old b**ch." Now the rapper’s lawyer, Jason Williams, has questioned Moore’s reasoning behind the prosecution and has asked a judge to remove his client from the murder case.
The legal papers read: "Mr. Moore learned of these disparaging comments and within 10 days of hearing these remarks, he prepared a case against Torrence Hatch to bring before a grand jury when the individuals actually responsible for this crime had been in custody for quite some time." The motion will be heard on 22 June (11), reports AllHipHop.com.

She tells Vanity Fair magazine, "I adored him! Before he cast me in North by Northwest, I met him with his wife, Alma, at his house in Bel Air. My agent set it up so we could have lunch together, and I was a little nervous.
"I called my mom, who was a schoolteacher, and she somehow knew that he liked beige. So I wore a beige dress. And Mom says, ‘And he likes ladies with white gloves.’ So I wore white gloves. He did (like blondes too). But Mom didn’t know that."

BUCK HAS ‘SMALL-SCALE’ OCD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

R.E.M. star PETER BUCK regrets watching OKLAHOMA! as a child - because the musical sparked off a compulsive obsession with counting.
The guitarist was 12 years old when he first saw the movie version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, and ever since he has sung the signature tune when he hears a four-syllable word.
He admits the condition qualifies as "small-scale" obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), but is convinced it’s genetic - because his daughter suffers the same affliction.
Buck tells Mojo magazine, "I’m kinda small-scale OCD-ish. I have this counting thing: I unfortunately watched the movie Oklahoma! when I was 12, and whenever I hear a four-syllable word, in my head I sing the song, ‘Ok-la-ho-ma…’. I told one of my daughters and she went, ‘Oh God, I do that too.’ It must be genetic."

CYRUS: ‘I NEED TO MEND MY FAMILY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

BILLY RAY CYRUS is trying his best to "mend" his relationship with his family after recently blaming fame for "destroying" their bond.
The country singer hit the headlines after revealing in an interview he was "scared" for his superstar daughter Miley following her rise to fame in the hit series Hannah Montana and a string of scandals.
He told GQ magazine, "The damn show destroyed my family… I hate to say it, but yes, I do (wish the show hadn’t happened). I’d take it back in a second… I’m scared for her (Miley). She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger." Cyrus now admits his comments were "explosive, and unintentionally so", and plans to focus on healing rifts with his loved ones.
He tells People.com, "It is very important to me to work on mending my family right now. My family is the most important thing I have, and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier.
"It is all a learning process, and we thank everyone for their support and respect of our privacy as we sort through very important family issues." The Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker filed for divorce from his wife Tish in October (10), but the couple has recently been spotted spending time together in Los Angeles with their youngest daughter Noah, 11.

SAINT GRATEFUL NOT TO BE A SUPERSTAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Veteran actress EVA MARIE SAINT is grateful she was never as well known as her NORTH BY NORTHWEST co-star CARY GRANT, insisting she "couldn’t have coped" with his level of fame.
Saint struggled to comprehend the attention Grant attracted when the pair went to see a show during a break in filming their 1959 Alfred Hitchcock thriller.
And the Oscar winner admits the outing made her feel fortunate to be able to live a normal life.
She tells Vanity Fair magazine, "A buzz went up in the audience the moment he (Grant) was recognised. It was like a wave of adulation rolling round the theater. I found it overwhelming and a little scary. I was thrown by it. And I asked him, ‘How do you handle this, because I know I couldn’t?’ It was almost as if he were talking about someone else when he said, ‘They’ll tell their friends tomorrow that they saw Cary Grant. It makes them happy!’ "I know I couldn’t have coped with that kind of fame. And I’ve never had it - thank the Lord! People recognise me, but I wanted a normal life. I remember when I was with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton on The Sandpiper - they were so famous they couldn’t go anywhere."

HEARD COMPLETED OWN STUNTS ON DRIVE ANGRY 3D

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

Actress AMBER HEARD refused to use safety wires while filming new movie DRIVE ANGRY 3D - to ensure her dangerous stunts look convincing.
Heard plays a coffee shop waitress, Piper, who teams up with Nicolas Cage to take on the leader of a satanic cult in the film.
The 24 year old admits she loved showing off her athletic abilities in action-packed scenes with Cage - and even completed stunts without a safety harness.
She says, "I jumped from an RV (recreational vehicle) full of satanic cultists on to the hood of a ‘69 Charger with its windshield shot out only to be pulled inside by Nicolas Cage as he was barrelling down the highway.
"It was up there. There were no wires. That was my job. I really took on Piper. She’s someone I related to, so it was easy to let her get under my skin. Piper is not scared of anything, so why should I be?" Now Heard admits she would love to sign up for more action parts, adding: "I loved it. I found a niche for myself and Piper has set the bar high for my next character. I would come home exhausted, bruised, cut, scraped with every muscle sore. But there was something quite nice about that."

FARRELLY BROTHERS LEAVING RHODE ISLAND BEHIND FOR STOOGES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

THE FARRELLY BROTHERS are ditching plans to film their upcoming THREE STOOGES movie in their native Rhode Island - because there’s better weather in Georgia.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly have put their home state on the map by making it the setting for their quirky comedies, including Dumb & Dumber and There’s Something About Mary.
But they’re hitting the road for their latest project, because they’ll save money and enjoy sunshine if they film in America’s Deep South.
Bobby tells the Boston Herald, "We need good weather, so we have to head south. And unfortunately… Georgia has a better tax incentive and that’s huge. We save millions by going down there and you just can’t talk the studio out of it."

THEATRE MUSICAL CRITICISM WAS ‘VINDICTIVE’, SAYS SIMON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

PAUL SIMON was devastated when his Broadway production THE CAPEMAN flopped - because the "vindictive" reviews attacked him personally.
The folk legend spent years writing and developing the musical about Salvador Agron, a Puerto Rican youth who killed two teens in a 1959 gang fight.
The show opened with Marc Anthony starring as a young Agron, but the play was mauled by critics and closed after just 10 weeks.
And Simon, who is said to have lost $11 million (£7.3 million) when The Capeman failed, admits he struggled to read the reviews - because they were so spiteful.
He tells Britain’s Uncut magazine, "That hurt a lot. Not because the play failed but the criticism of it was vindictive and it was personal. I was surprised that so many people thought I was such an a**hole. Maybe we’re all a**holes and we just don’t know it. I mean, yeah, it’s rough when they come at you personally." But the Graceland hitmaker is philosophical about his stage disaster, adding: "Six months later, it’s gone. In any career, you have to have failures. That’s how you learn. Success can be an enormous load to carry because people overpraise you and they want you to just go on doing the one thing."

FORMER HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER/DIRECTOR AMONG SOMALI PIRATE VICTIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:23 pm

A former Hollywood filmmaker-turned-missionary has been shot and killed after he was kidnapped by pirates off the coast of Somalia.
Scott Adam, who worked on hit 1980s TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, was one of four Americans captured last Friday (18Feb11) when their yacht was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden.
U.S. Navy SEALs had been in negotiation with the pirates to free the hostages, but discussions were halted on Tuesday (22Feb11) when one kidnapper fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the rescuers’ nearby warship, Sterett.
The pirates subsequently opened fire on the four Christian missionaries, including Adam and his wife Jean, leaving them dead or mortally wounded by the time special forces were able to board the ship, according to Navy Vice Admiral Mark Fox. The four victims are the first Americans killed by pirates in the area.
Adam, 70, worked in film and TV throughout the 1970s and ’80s and served as an assistant director on U.S. shows The Dukes of Hazzard, The Love Boat and McCloud. He was also a production manager on 1985 movie classic The Goonies.
He walked away from Hollywood to dedicate his life to missionary work and spent the last seven years sailing around the world with his 66-year-old wife, handing out Bibles wherever they travelled.
The Adams were parishioners at St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California - the same church frequented by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, veteran actor Martin Sheen, and model/actress Brooke Shields.

PERRY DEFENDS MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCT PLACEMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:23 pm

KATY PERRY has defended the use of product placement in music videos after she was accused of attacking BRITNEY SPEARS for advertising in her promos.
The singer recently took to her Twitter.com page to give her opinion on artists who feature branded goods in their videos, insisting it should be done "with style & grace".
Perry added: "You have to get creative with it. Some artists don’t care though, and you can tell." Her comments sparked speculation she was lashing out at Spears, who was recently reported to have earned $500,000 (£333,300) from endorsing products during her promo for new song Hold it Against Me.
But the I Kissed A Girl hitmaker is adamant she wasn’t targeting her pop peers, admitting she’s "happy" to take on corporate sponsors.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page, Perry writes, "Please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, their roles in vids & the art of them being complimenting or sticking out. Most, if not ALL popsters welcome deals w/products to offset costs of big budget vids in these recessional music industry times.
"I’ve used them in MY vids before & am happy to be able to make a better vid because of (product placement). Once AGAIN, stop pitting artists against artist for ur (your) sensational satisfaction."
