THE KINKS legend RAY DAVIES is still suffering the after-effects of a shooting in 2004 - he was hospitalised last year (10) when bullet residue formed a clot in his leg.
The Waterloo Sunset hitmaker was blasted in the leg in January 2004 as he chased a thief who had snatched a purse in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He recovered from the attack after hospital treatment - but has now revealed his leg is still "pretty bad" and gunshot residue in the wound made him "quite ill" late last year.
Davies tells Q magazine, "It’s been pretty bad, actually. I got quite sick before Christmas from residue that is still in the leg and which formed a clot. It made me quite ill and I was hospitalised for a bit.
"To put it politely, I don’t think it was handled very well at the time: partly because the hospital was busy, and partly due to the nature of the gunshot wound. It was a zigzag bullet." In November (10), Davies axed four concerts in New York after doctors ordered him not to fly until his condition had stabilised.

Editors of a French fashion magazine have defended a controversial photoshoot featuring BEYONCE in dark make-up, insisting the singer’s face was "voluntarily darkened" for the spread.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker has come under fire for the African-themed shoot in L’Officiel Paris, which depicts the star in dark face paint and tribal-inspired clothing.
But editors of the publication have explained the styling and shot back at critics.
A statement from a L’Officiel Paris spokesperson reads, "Far from (Beyonce’s alter-ego) the glamorous Sasha Fierce, the beauty posed for the magazine with amazing fashion designers’ clothes, but also in a dress created by her mother.
"A return to her African roots, as you can see in the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened. All the pictures will be available in the collector edition, on sale at the end of this month."

ROSIE O’DONNELL has reached out to ASHLEY FINK after she was quoted criticising the plus-sized GLEE star’s character in the hit musical series.
The comedienne sparked fury among Glee fans after allegedly insisting Fink’s on-screen romance with handsome Mark Salling was implausible.
She was quoted as telling Access Hollywood, "It really, really strikes a chord with every overweight woman I know. Every woman I know who’s heavy has strong feelings about that storyline. They’re like, ‘Can you believe that? I think that’s horrible. That never happens in school. That character is so unlikable. Why didn’t they get a pretty heavy girl?’" But the A League of Their Own star has now praised Fink and apologised for her remarks - admitting she is "often misquoted".
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, O’Donnell writes, "Oh Ashley - I love your swagger - your acting - your face - your heart - as a famous fat person - I am often asked about the issue…
"I love the story line - I love the show - and if in any way something I said hurt u - I apologize MORE. You are so talented and I can’t wait to hear you belt it … as I know you can - the often misquoted Rosie."

Oscar-winning director DANNY BOYLE has been applauded for his return to the theatre with a stage version of FRANKENSTEIN.
The Slumdog Millionaire moviemaker’s production has opened at London’s National Theatre, marking the first time he has directed a live show in more than 20 years.
And Boyle has won praise for his latest project, which stars British actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his monster.
The Daily Telegraph’s Charles Spencer declares, "The Frankenstein story has become so familiar that it might seem an impossible task to make the old story seem fresh.
"Yet somehow Boyle does just that, constantly creating shocks, spectacular coups de theatre and scenes that tug at the heart." Libby Purves of The Times adds, "It is a hell of a production. This taut, thrilling play runs to its awful conclusion without an interval, indeed with hardly a moment for breath." Boyle began his career directing plays before moving into film with the crime thriller Shallow Grave in 1995.

RANDY QUAID is celebrating after his wife EVI was granted Canadian citizenship - paving the way for the BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN star to remain in the country.
The couple was arrested in Vancouver, British Columbia, in October (10) on outstanding U.S. warrants related to vandalism charges in California.
They requested refugee status after claiming they were being persecuted by "Hollywood star whackers" and that their lives were in danger.
Now their bid to stay in Canada permanently has been given a boost after officials granted Evi Quaid citizenship because her father is Canadian.
She has now applied to sponsor her husband’s residency request, and officials at the Canada Border Services Agency have dropped proceedings against him, according to Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail.
The Hollywood star says, "Today, we are here to say thank you to Canada. Thank you for your warm welcome, and thank you for giving us the opportunity to live in peace… I look forward to working on many exciting Canadian projects in the future."

Bosses at an epilepsy organisation are calling for KANYE WEST’s latest music video to be taken off the internet over fears it could cause seizures among sufferers.
The hip-hop star’s promo for All of the Lights, which features Rihanna, uses so much flashing imagery that regulators at the U.K.’s Ofcom authority have deemed the video unsuitable to be broadcasted on British television.
Experts at Cambridge Research Systems claim the video contains flashes that could trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
However, no broadcasting regulations regarding flashing imagery are in place online - so officials at Epilepsy Action are demanding that the clip be taken off YouTube.com, even though it has already racked up almost five million hits since its debut at the weekend (19-20Feb11).

CHARLIE SHEEN’s estranged wife BROOKE MUELLER is still living in the actor’s home with their twin sons - but only while she waits for the star to buy her a house.
The former couple’s relationship began unravelling after a Christmas Day bust-up in 2009, which left the Two And A Half Men star facing criminal charges.
They subsequently split and Sheen began proceedings to officially end their two-year marriage in November (10), with the divorce set to be finalised in May (11).
Sheen has since moved on with a new mystery blonde - but Mueller still lives with him, according to her step-dad Jon Fiore.
Fiore explains it’s only a temporary arrangement, telling E! News, "He’s buying her and the kids a house. Brooke is temporarily staying with him until the house is ready for her and the boys to move into, which should be any day now. Brooke and Charlie are still friends. She is not living with him, but she is staying there until her house is ready."

LINDSAY LOHAN’s father MICHAEL has held his hands up and admitted he is "100 per cent" responsible for his daughter’s personal troubles.
The Mean Girls actress is currently facing a prison spell as she prepares to go to trial over a felony theft charge stemming from allegations she stole a necklace.
Lohan also spent time behind bars and in rehab last year (10) to tackle a substance abuse and alcohol problem.
Now her dad Michael has spoken out about her woes, confessing the Lohan family broke down after he lashed out and attacked his wife Dina’s brother for taking drugs.
And Michael believes the collapse of his marriage to Dina prompted Lindsay’s downfall.
Asked if he is to blame for Lindsay’s struggles, Michael tells CNN host Piers Morgan, "Justifiably, no doubt, 100 per cent. (Her mother) Dina and I are responsible - and I have to say myself more than Dina. Because if it wasn’t for the fight I had when I caught her brother smoking crack at my son’s party… I reacted the wrong way.
"I did not have to beat him up. I did not have to react the way I did - and inevitably that was the launch for our divorce… It was me or her (Dina’s) family, and she chose her family, and that broke Lindsay’s heart… It’s a wake-up call for me."

PAMELA ANDERSON almost missed out on an appearance on pal ELLEN DEGENERES’ chat show on Wednesday (23Jan11) because she was called to serve jury duty.
The actress/model was billed to tape a show, scheduled to air on Thursday (24Feb11), but was called to jury duty in Los Angeles at the last minute.
She says, "I had to call in and it’s very scary. I thought I was going to jail or something. I thought I was guilty… You have to call in the night before and I didn’t have to do it (jury duty) today." Anderson reveals she has never served on a jury before, and doesn’t think she’d make a very fair judge of character.
She adds, "I don’t think I’d be a very good juror. If you’re not a vegetarian - guilty!"

DAVID and VICTORIA BECKHAM swapped planes at the last minute on Wednesday (23Feb11) for "security reasons", sparking speculation they wanted to avoid a run-in with a glamour model passenger they’d previously had a spat with.
The former Spice Girl and her soccer star husband were due to fly from London to Los Angeles on a Virgin Atlantic flight, on the same plane as busty model Katie Price.
They refused to board the plane and switched to an Air New Zealand jet, prompting reports they wanted to distance themselves from Price, who Victoria publicly fell out with in 2000.
But the couple’s spokesperson has dismissed the reports, claiming the pair swapped jets for "security" purposes rather than for personal issues.
Price took to her Twitter.com page to confirm she was flying separately from her former nemesis, writing, "Taking off. People saying Victoria on flight. This is not true." The Beckhams flew out of Heathrow airport several hours later, reportedly catching the same flight as Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.

KELLY OSBOURNE has heaped praise on MADONNA for her parenting skills, insisting she has "done a fantastic job" to bring up such an "unaffected, well-mannered" daughter.
The reality TV star has signed up as the new face of the pop superstar’s Material Girl clothing line, which she designs with her 14-year-old daughter Lourdes.
Osbourne has struck up a friendship with the teenager and has been working closely with Madonna on the range.
And she admits she’s impressed with how well-rounded the youngster is compared to other celebrity children in the spotlight.
Osbourne tells Access Hollywood, "I think (Lourdes) is the sweetest girl. She’s the most unaffected, well-mannered, well-brought up, sweet, loving, caring, normal girl I’ve ever met in her situation.
"There (are) not many girls in the industry or whose family (is) in the industry that aren’t affected. It’s really refreshing to meet someone like Lola who is just so genuine and so herself and stays true to it in every sense and, you know, people don’t realise how rare that is.
"I’ve always been a huge, huge, huge fan of Madonna, but it completely changed my whole opinion of her - made me like her even more once I met Lola because she’s done a fantastic job with her. Madonna is one of my idols and my first single I ever released was a cover of Papa Don’t Preach.
"To have it come full circle - now I’m actually doing something with her and her daughter - it’s just kind of like… ahhh!"

A representative for actress GLENN CLOSE has dismissed British tabloid reports suggesting the FATAL ATTRACTION star has signed up to play Scottish singer SUSAN BOYLE in a new biopic.
Speculation about a Boyle movie and who would play the British talent show sensation has been rife for months - and recent reports have linked Close to the role.
But her rep has been quick to shoot down a story in The Sun which links the actress to a Boyle movie.
The spokesman tells BroadwayWorld.com, "This was a complete rumour from a tabloid paper in the U.K. It is not remotely true." Boyle became an overnight success in 2009 when her performance of I Dreamed A Dream on Britain’s Got Talent became the most watched YouTube.com video of the year.
She went on to top charts all over the world.

Country star TIM MCGRAW has become the latest celebrity to dismiss reports he’s planning a political career, suggesting he has too chequered a past to run for office.
The politically-minded singer/actor has hinted he would be interested in running for Governor of Tennessee, where he lives with his wife Faith Hill and their kids - but the time isn’t right for him.
During an appearance on CNN’s American Morning news show on Wednesday (23Feb11), McGraw said, "Somewhere down the line, if I feel I can give back, I certainly wouldn’t say no to it, but it would be a while, and my kids would have to be grown because I certainly don’t want my closet opened anytime soon." His remarks came a day after George Clooney dismissed a political run in a Newsweek magazine interview, stating, "I didn’t live my life in the right way for politics. I f**ked too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that’s the truth."

JUSTIN BIEBER is set to pay publishing mogul HUGH HEFNER a visit at his iconic Playboy Mansion - and he’s taking his father with him.

NEIL DIAMOND has been left devastated by the aftermath of the New Zealand earthquake after arriving in the country for three upcoming shows.
An estimated 75 residents have died in the earthquake and more than 300 are missing following Tuesday’s (22Feb11) Christchurch quake - and Sweet Caroline singer Diamond admits his visit for concerts in Auckland this weekend (26 & 28Feb11) has taken on a new purpose.
In a tweet to fans, he writes, "A tragic week here in NZ. Hoping to raise funds for earthquake relief and bring some comfort to people with our music in Auckland." He has posted a link to donate to the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal online.
Diamond will also perform in Wellington on 4 March (11).

LARRY KING faced off with his TV show replacement PIERS MORGAN on Wednesday evening (23Feb11) to defend comments he made accusing the Brit of "overselling" his new programme.
Morgan took over from the 77 year old after he announced plans to leave his nightly show last summer (10).
The British journalist dominated headlines ahead of the January (11) relaunch - but his interviews have failed to win over as many viewers as King’s chat show.
King praised Morgan for being a "fine broadcaster" last week (end20Feb11), but slammed him for talking up the format too much.
He said, "One of the problems they did was to oversell it - they said he was going to be dangerous, he was going to be water-cooler talk, it was ‘Wait till you see me, I’m different.’ Well, he’s good - but he’s not that dangerous." The two men went head-to-head on Wednesday as King returned to CNN to be interviewed by Morgan, who confronted him about the remarks.
But King stood by his statement, telling Morgan, "I haven’t seen you dangerous yet. I said you’re capable. This is what I think. Supposing we’re going to do four specials for CNN… first one’s in April, we’re still working on them. Supposing I said, ‘This first special will be the greatest special in the history of American television - the best - and dangerous.’ It can’t live up to that… Why can’t you just say, ‘Piers Morgan: I’m coming, watch me.’ ‘Piers Morgan starts next Monday.’ What’s wrong with that?" Morgan fought back, insisting he had no option but to boldly promote the show: "I suppose I’ve always oversold myself. I quite like doing that, it’s quite funny… What was I supposed to (do)? We couldn’t come in and undersell it, I’m following a legend. You can’t follow (Frank) Sinatra in Vegas and say, ‘By the way, I’m not very good and this is going to be useless.’" And the former America’s Got Talent judge was full of praise for King, telling the star he hopes he will one day live up to his "dangerous" request.
Morgan adds, "Every day I do this my admiration for what you’ve achieved grows, because I’ve done 22 shows. I feel like I’ve been in a war zone! And you did 7,000 shows in 25 years… Just the sheer stamina that you showed is awesome.
"I carry a great sense of responsibility to live up to the legacy you left for me. I want you to watch the show and feel that it gets better and feel that I’m dangerous."

Supermodel ELLE MACPHERSON broke down in tears during a fashion show in Australia on Wednesday (23Feb11) as she opened up about her dad’s illness.
The beauty travelled to her native country from her adopted Britain to take to the catwalk in Sydney, launching airline Virgin Blue’s new pilots’ uniform.
But she was so overcome being back Down Under near her family, she welled up as she talked about father Peter Gow, who had surgery two weeks ago to treat prostate cancer.
She told the crowd as her voice broke, "It’s wonderful to be home. I miss my family… I’m going to get a bit emotional… particularly (for) my dad, who is a bit unwell." Gow was given the all-clear following the operation, and he has put Macpherson’s emotions down to jet lag.
He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "I have been a bit unwell. I’m sorry Elle was upset. She is probably a bit tired after travelling a long way. We love each other very much and I draw incredible strength from my children. She is probably a bit tired after travelling a long way. I’m on the way back. They are confident they got it all. It has been a bit of a shock actually."
