BROWN REP DENIES RESTRAINING ORDER REQUEST IS FOR THE GRAMMYS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:38 pm

CHRIS BROWN’s representative has dismissed reports the star’s lawyer asked a judge to relax a restraining order against him so he can attend the upcoming Grammy Awards at the same time as his ex-girlfriend RIHANNA.
Brown has been working on rebuilding his reputation since a violent 2009 bust up with the Bajan beauty, his then-girlfriend, following a pre-Grammys party.
The altercation left him with an assault conviction and he was handed five years probation, six months of community service and ordered to take a series of domestic violence counselling classes. He was also told to stay away from Rihanna.
He has now completed the 52-week domestic violence programme and no longer has to undergo progress reports every three months.
On Friday (28Jan11), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg congratulated Brown on his progress, and took into consideration his lawyer’s request to have the rules of a protective order to stay away from Rihanna relaxed. A decision was not made as a legal representative for the Umbrella beauty could not be reached in time, according to TMZ.com.
But Brown’s publicist has moved swiftly to deny claims the singer wanted the ban relaxed so he can go to the Grammys in February (11) without running the risk of breaking the restraining order.
The spokesperson tells TMZ.com, "This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys." Brown is up for three awards at the annual prizegiving.

DAVIS SLAMS FAMILY IN ANGRY POST-ARREST STATEMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:32 pm

Troubled U.S. oil heir JASON DAVIS has slammed his relatives in a bitter statement following his recent drugs bust, suggesting a member of his own family planted narcotics in his home.
The grandson of billionaire businessman Marvin Davis was arrested in Newport Beach, California on Thursday night (27Jan11). He is now facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance and has been released on $20,000 (£13,330) bail, reports TMZ.com.
According to the website, Davis fired off a statement after his release in which he accuses his family of calling cops and releasing details of his arrest to the press in a bid to boost their own public image.
Davis says, "I am shocked that my family would once again alert the police, and media, about a personal family matter simply to promote their own public image. You don’t see Charlie Sheen’s family calling the cops on him." And he believes the drugs found by cops may have been part of a cruel set up, adding, "Authorities are investigating whether a certain family member planted the drugs in my home." Davis’ arrest came a day after he appeared on a live reunion episode of Celebrity Rehab, on which he starred last year (10) in a bid to get professional help for his addictions. On the show, which aired in the U.S. on Wednesday (26Jan11), he insisted he had been clean since completing treatment.

THE KING’S SPEECH continues to reign supreme over awards season - filmmaker TOM HOOPER was honoured with the top prize at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) awards on Saturday (29Jan11).
Hooper was presented with the outstanding directorial achievement by his peers for his story of stuttering British monarch King George VI.

Accepting the accolade, Hooper paid tribute to his mother, who sparked his interest in the king.
He told the audience, "She came home and she rang me up and she said, ‘I think I found your next movie’. The moral of the story is, listen to your mother." Hooper beat out competition from The Social Network’s David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Christopher Nolan (Inception), and David O. Russell (The Fighter).
The King’s Speech is nominated for a staggering 12 trophies at the Oscars in February (11), including Best Picture.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:23 pm

Actress JAIME PRESSLY has filed for divorce to officially end her marriage to entertainment lawyer SIMRAN SINGH.
Reports earlier this week (begs24Jan11) claimed the My Name Is Earl star had split from Singh and it’s now emerged she filed for divorce on 21 January (11).

She is seeking to deny Singh spousal support.
The couple wed in September, 2009 after just months of dating. They have no children together, although the actress is mother to three-year-old son Dezi, from her relationship with former fiance Eric Cubiche.

BONHAM CARTER ‘SPED-READ’ THROUGH HISTORY BOOKS FOR THE KING’S SPEECH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:20 pm

HELENA BONHAM CARTER cheated as she researched her role as QUEEN ELIZABETH in THE KING’S SPEECH - she "sped-read" through history books because there was so much material on the royal.
The Planet of the Apes star portrays King George VI’s wife Elizabeth in the Oscar-nominated drama, opposite Colin Firth as the stammering monarch.
But Bonham Carter confesses she took a short cut through Elizabeth’s early years up until 1939 because she didn’t have enough time to properly learn all about Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, who died in 2002 at the grand old age of 101.
She says, "I just pretended to research. No, the thing is, I’m actually a swot (geek). But the thing about playing the Queen mum is, she did last for a hell of a long time… All the books are really, really thick, and I only had three weeks to prepare.
"At least I only got up to 1939, so I just sped read. I did not play her in her mid-60s." But the star’s lack of research didn’t harm her performance - she’s earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for next month’s (Feb11) ceremony.

She tells British talk show host Graham Norton, "I never thought I would notice the difference but there’s a lot of differences! It’s just a different type of way. He’s very polite and kind and so sweet. He’s lovely! "I do notice that I do get corrected sometimes. I say ‘can’ - you know, ‘Can I have a…’ and (with) Matthew, it’s ‘Could I have? Would it be possible if I could, ma’am?’ I’ve been corrected, yeah! And then (the word) ‘like’. I have a girlfriend who lives here (in the U.K.), she likes to mimic me all the time, ‘Like, like.’ I say guys, and she always thinks that’s weird: ‘Why do Americans say guys all the time?’"

ADELE: ‘EMOTIONAL SONGS ARE DRAINING’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:17 pm

Soul singer ADELE forces herself to think about furniture when she performs live, insisting it’s too "emotionally draining" to sing about love every night.
The British star admits she struggled to relive the painful experiences that inspired her ballads while promoting her last album, 19, on the road.
So the Chasing Pavements hitmaker focuses on mundane topics onstage to ease her mind.
She tells Billboard, "That’s really f**king hard. Toward the end of touring on 19 there were a couple of shows where I’d be singing Make You Feel My Love and I’d just have to start thinking of (Swedish home furnishings store) Ikea or something. You have to switch off sometimes - otherwise it’s completely emotionally draining." But Adele, who is preparing to tour once again for her latest offering 21, loves when crowds are moved by her music.
She adds, "Anything I find difficult, though, is completely thrown in the bin when I see how people respond to my music. I love it when a wife drags her husband to a show and he’s standing there like a lemon. You spend the whole night trying to win him over, and by the end he’s kissing his wife. That’s amazing."

MORE WOMEN ACCUSE BROOKS OF ASSAULT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:17 pm

Beleaguered songwriter JOSEPH BROOKS is facing more legal woe - prosecutors are set to seek testimony from another 12 women accusing him of sexual assault.
The 72-year-old Oscar winner was arrested in 2009 over allegations he took advantage of 11 wannabe actresses, while another two women came forward last year (10) claiming they were molested by the You Light Up My Life composer.
Now prosecutors have found at least 12 more women they want to testify against Brooks, according to the Associated Press.
However, their cases will not be added to his indictment due to various legal reasons.
Brooks, who has pleaded not guilty to predatory sexual assault, allegedly invited the women to his New York City apartment after they answered his online advertisements for acting auditions.
A trial date has not yet been set.
Meanwhile, Brooks’ son Nicholas has also been embroiled in scandal, pleading not guilty to a second-degree murder charge following the death of his fashion designer girlfriend at a New York hotel.

COHEN CONCERT FOOTAGE UP FOR SALE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:17 pm

A lawyer has ended a dispute with LEONARD COHEN after agreeing to sell off footage of the legendary folk singer shot in the 1970s.
Showbiz attorney Steven Machat is handing over 294 film reels, which follow the Hallelujah singer on stage and behind-the-scenes of his 1972 European tour.
The tapes had been missing since 1980, but Machat rediscovered them in 2009 and they were used to create a documentary about the Canadian rocker, entitled Bird on a Wire.
Now Machat, who once represented Cohen, has settled his feud with the star by offering up the reels to fans for $1,500 (£1,000).
Machat tells London’s Hackney Gazette, "These reels are historical, and since Cohen himself didn’t put them into a museum, I feel the rightful place is with his fans who so adore his message.
"I am selling this for money. I am selling this so those who worship and adore the artist can have something to hold and own as their own." The reels are available to purchase on Machat’s website, www.leonardcohencafe.co.uk.

KNIGHT: ‘I NEVER HID MY SEXUALITY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:14 pm

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK star JONATHAN KNIGHT has spoken out following reports he was recently ‘outed’ as gay, insisting he has never hidden his sexuality.
The singer hit the headlines earlier this week (24Jan11) after 1980s pop star Tiffany revealed he was gay in a live U.S. TV interview, shocking fans who had no idea he was homosexual.
But Knight is adamant he wasn’t hurt by Tiffany’s ‘announcement’ - because he ‘came out’ to friends and family years ago.
In a post on the band’s official website, he writes, "To all my fans who have expressed concern: I have never been outed by anyone but myself. I did so almost twenty years ago. I never knew that I would have to do it all over again publicly just because I reunited with NKOTB! I have lived my life very openly and have never hidden the fact that I am gay. Apparently the prerequisite to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption, ‘I am gay’.
"I love living my life being open and honest, but at this time I choose not to discuss my private life any further! My fellow band members don’t discuss their private lives with their loved ones and I don’t feel that just because I am gay, I should have to discuss mine!"
