PANJABI HAS BRITISH SOAP STAR BERRY TO THANK FOR CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:22 pm

THE GOOD WIFE actress ARCHIE PANJABI has credited British soap opera actor NICK BERRY with kickstarting her career by responding to her fan mail and offering tips on how to start out in the industry.
The Emmy Award-winning Brit, who emigrated to the U.S. for her role in the hit drama, fell in love with acting after being drawn to longrunning U.K. soap EastEnders because it was the only primetime British TV series to feature an Indian family.
Panjabi wrote to the show’s star Berry asking for acting advice and he told her to find herself an agent, and she admits she’d love to meet the actor and thank him in person.
She tells Britain’s S magazine, "I was drawn to EastEnders because they had the first Indian family, so I thought, ‘OK, I can make it in TV.’ Then Nick Berry turned up and I went through a phase of writing to him. I said that I really wanted to make it as an actor and asked how to do it. He said to buy (industry magazine) The Stage and get an agent from that, so that’s exactly what I did. He was a huge influence on me - I’d love to meet him one day."

HENDRICKS LOSES DIAMOND BRACELET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:19 pm

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS flew into a panic at the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday (16Jan11) after losing an $850,000 (£566,667) diamond bracelet on the red carpet.
The Mad Men star borrowed gems from legendary jewellery company Chopard to wear to the star-studded event in Los Angeles.
But one of the matching diamond bangles slipped off Hendricks’ wrist as she made her way into the venue, and the actress turned to reporters for help locating the pricey piece, asking, "Have you seen a diamond bracelet? I’ve lost one that looks like this." Hendricks reportedly left the auditorium as the other guests were taking their seats to continue her search for the bracelet, which was eventually handed back to her by an event worker who found the item.
A representative for Chopard confirms a relieved Hendricks was able to return all of the pieces she borrowed, telling the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six, "Whoever put it on her wrist may have not closed the safety clasp correctly. But both bracelets and her earrings were returned in perfect condition today."

WINFREY: ‘I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY AS A TEACHER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:25 am

OPRAH WINFREY set out to become a fourth grade teacher - and insists she would have been very happy if her career had taken her into education.
During newsman Piers Morgan’s first CNN chat show, the multi-media queen revealed she never set out to become a superstar - she just wanted to teach. And then powerful forces took over.
Winfrey told the Brit, "If I had been what I thought I was gonna be and that is a great fourth grade teacher, I would have also liked that.
"At the core of me I am a teacher and I am happiest when I feel that people are getting something, learning something, enhancing themselves in a way that they never thought of before."

OPRAH OPENS UP ABOUT TEEN PREGNANCY, MISCARRIAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:23 am

OPRAH WINFREY has spoken candidly about her teenage miscarriage, revealing she had no connection to her baby.
The talk show queen was on the other end of searching questions when she agreed to be the first guest on British newsman Piers Morgan’s new CNN show, which aired on Monday (17Jan11) - and she agreed to talk openly about falling pregnant at 14 and then losing her child.
After confessing she has never regretted not having children, Winfrey told the host she knew that she only became pregnant because of "bad choices and not having boundaries and the abuse, sexual abuse, from the time I was nine", and she was relieved when she lost the child.
Oprah explained, "I knew then that when I lost that baby, for whom I had no connection to whatsoever… I was 14 years old and felt nothing but just, OK, relieved, because I thought before the baby was born, I’m gonna have to kill myself.
"My mother said you can’t stay here, so I had to move to live with my father in Nashville." But she told Morgan she kept her pregnancy from her traditionalist father, who never knew she was with child.
Winfrey recalled, "My father, as a part of his decree about what’s gonna go on in this house… said to me… ‘These are the rules of the house, you are gonna obey the rules; you have a 10 o’clock curfew and I would rather see a daughter of mine floating down the Cumberland River than to bring shame on this family and the indecency of an illegitimate child.
"He’s saying that to me and I know that I am pregnant." Oprah insisted she never really came close to taking her own life but revealed she once drank detergent "to try and get attention", but the whole experience has helped her relate to "young girls who are in that situation".
The talk show host never got to take her dead baby home from the hospital and she saw the miscarriage as her second chance to make something of her life.
She added, "I went back to school and nobody knew, because had anybody have known at that time I wouldn’t have been able to be head of the student council… I wouldn’t have been able to be Miss Fire Prevention, I wouldn’t have been chosen as one of the two teenagers from the state of Tennessee to go to the White House conference on youth.
"None of those things would have happened and the whole trajectory of my life would have been different."

KIDMAN & URBAN PROUD OF FELLOW AUSSIES’ FIGHTING SPIRIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:23 am

New parents NICOLE KIDMAN and KEITH URBAN have paid tribute to the "spirit" of their fellow Australians following the devastating floods in Queensland earlier this month (Jan11).
The state was plunged into a state of emergency as heavy rain caused massive flooding throughout the region - at least 25 people have died and thousands of residents have been forced to flee their homes.
Kidman and Urban, who welcomed new daughter Faith Margaret via surrogate last month (Dec10), have family ties in the area and they have now spoken of their pride in their country’s reaction in the wake of the disaster.
The actress tells Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, "It’s the amazing spirit of people when something like this hits. Every day we followed it and we were seeking it out." While Urban adds, "I had people texting me from all over the States saying, ‘Is your family okay?’ They’re all alright, thank goodness. I was there for the 1974 floods and I remember it so vividly. It was surreal to see the same images again."

SIR ELTON JOHN has posed for his first public photograph with his newborn son for a U.K. magazine, and revealed he was present throughout the birth.
The Rocket Man and his partner David Furnish welcomed a son called Zachary on Christmas Day (25Dec10) via a surrogate mother, a year after they were denied the chance to adopt a tot from the Ukraine.
After a month of being new dads, the couple has now posed for a family portrait for Britain’s OK! magazine, showing off their tiny tot, who is seen wearing a miniature pair of dungarees.
The superstar also confirmed he was present at the birth, and couldn’t believe how fast his child arrived into the world.
He tells the magazine, "He shot out like a rocket. There just aren’t proper words to describe that feeling. It’s indescribable. It was just, ‘We have a son!’" And the singer admits he broke down in tears when they brought their baby home for the first time, he adds, "People ask, ‘Did you cry (during the birth)? You must have been so emotional?’ And I say no, because it was all so quick. When I cried was when we brought him home Monday morning at 8.30am. We hadn’t had time to celebrate Christmas yet. We had a big tree, all the presents, and I said to David, put on some carols… As soon as it started, and I was holding Zachary in my arms, I cried."

The former Culture Club star has been clearing out his London home and he’s kept followers on Twitter.com up to date with his discoveries, revealing he recently stumbled across a request for a signed cover of his band’s 1983 album Colour By Numbers.

JUDGE ALLOWS JAMES’ HUSBAND ACCESS TO $60,000 FOR MEDICAL CARE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:17 am

A California judge has granted ETTA JAMES’ husband access to $60,000 (£40,000) of the ailing star’s money to cover medical costs until next month (Feb11).
Last week (ends16Jan11), fans of the music legend were stunned to discover she is battling leukaemia as well as Alzheimer’s disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2009.
The cancer revelation came to light in legal documents filed by her husband of 41 years, Artis Mills, who asked a judge to grant him control of $1 million (£666,666) of the star’s finances, claiming the 72 year old had become too ill to oversee her own affairs.
The request was challenged by James’ son, Donto, who claims his mother handed him power of attorney, along with his wife Christy and brother Sametto, back in 2008 to be used if she becomes incapacitated.
Although Donto won’t contest the use of the star’s cash to cover medical expenses, he insisted a third party should be put in charge "to avoid present and future family conflict and discrepancies".
The matter went before a judge at a Riverside County court on Friday (14Jan11) and Mills won his case - although he was only granted access to $60,000 (£40,000) of his wife’s money to cover her medical care up until 24 February (11).
