DE NIRO SETTLES NANNY LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:26 pm

ROBERT DE NIRO has settled a lawsuit with his son’s former nanny after she accused the actor of owing her more than $40,000 (£26,667) in overtime payments.
Alexis Barry was employed to look after the Goodfellas star’s son Elliot in 2006, with De Niro and his wife Grace Hightower allegedly agreeing to pay her $31.25 (£20.83) an hour and $46.88 (£31.25) per hour overtime.
Barry, who was dismissed by the actor in 2007, alleged in papers filed in 2009 that she had clocked up 750 hours of overtime in her 10 months working for the pair - but had not been paid for her extra service.
De Niro has now reportedly agreed to pay $30,000 (£20,000) to settle the suit, which he must hand over to Barry by Friday (21Jan11), reports the New York Daily News.
A stipulation filed at Manhattan Supreme Court reads, "The parties will keep the terms of the settlement confidential."

SINGER JOHNSON CLEARED OVER SOCCER STAR DISPUTE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:25 pm

British singer MATTHEW JOHNSON has been ordered to make peace with his soccer star neighbour after a dispute over a fence left him facing criminal charges.
The One True Voice star, who rose to fame alongside Cheryl Cole on 2002 reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals, reportedly became engaged in a feud with Welsh sportsman Kevin Ratcliffe over a large fence which was built in between their two homes.
Johnson allegedly rang Ratcliffe "ranting and raving", while prosecutor Alun Humphries told Mold Crown Court in Wales that during the call, the singer threatened "I will get you shot".
The 25 year old denied one charge of making a menacing call and his lawyer claimed both men had been "trading insults", reports Britain’s The Sun.
The charge was dismissed on Thursday (20Jan11) but Johnson was hit with a good behaviour order - he was bound over to keep the peace with Ratcliffe, meaning they must put the feud behind them.
Speaking after the hearing, the singer told reporters, "I am extremely pleased with the outcome."

LIAM GALLAGHER WANTS NOEL’S SOLO CAREER TO BE ‘GREAT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:25 pm

OASIS rocker LIAM GALLAGHER has taken the first step towards making peace with his estranged brother NOEL - insisting they will one day "be sweet" again and he hopes his sibling will go on to "make great records" without him.
The British band split in 2009 following a furious bust-up between the siblings backstage at a gig in Paris, France.
Since departing the group, the brothers have engaged in a bitter war of words, and earlier this month (Jan11), Liam accused Noel of allegedly stealing material they worked on together in Oasis for his upcoming solo record.
Liam, said, "I haven’t spoken to him, I haven’t seen him… I’ve heard his f**cking new record ‘cos I f**king sung on half of it… It’s not better and it won’t get any f**king better…" But now the singer, who fronts new group Beady Eye, has had a change of heart, insisting he’s convinced Noel will be a successful solo artist and they will one day make amends.
He tells Q magazine, "Listen, me and him will be sweet, man. Our little venture’s come to an end but I’ll never have a bad word about Oasis, it was f**kin’ amazing. It’s why I’m adored by millions. But it’s over and we’re buzzin’. And I hope our kid’s (my brother’s) buzzin’. I f**kin’ do actually. I hope he’s gonna make great records. And he probably will."

PINK DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL NEW VIDEO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:22 pm

PINK has defended her decision to include shocking images of self-harm, attempted suicide and anorexia in the video for her new single - insisting she wants to raise awareness of the controversial issues.
The pregnant pop star has debuted the promo for her new track F**kin’ Perfect, which sees Napoleon Dynamite actress Tina Marjorino playing a teenager struggling with bullying and self-esteem issues who turns to cutting herself.
Pink has now opened up about the controversial video, revealing she fully expected it to "ruffle some feathers", but hopes viewers will take a positive message from it.
In a post on her Pinkspage.com website, she writes, "I’m sure my newest video for F**kin’ Perfect will be much like some of my other videos, which basically means I expect it will ruffle some feathers… I want art to make me think. In order to do that, it may p**s me off, or make me uncomfortable. That promotes awareness and change, or at least some discussion. That is my intention…
"Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us… A lot of us have seen certain starlets showing off their latest scars on a red carpet somewhere, usually right before they head back to their favourite rehab.
"It’s a problem, and it’s something we should talk about. We can choose to ignore the problem, and therefore ignore this video, but that won’t make it go away. I don’t support or encourage suicide or cutting. I support the kids out there… I want them to know I’m aware. I have been there. I see them. Sometimes that’s all it takes." Pink also admits her pregnancy made the experience of filming the promo even more harrowing for her.
She adds, "Making this video was a very emotional experience for me, as was writing this song. I have a life inside of me, and I want her or him to know that I will accept him or her with open and loving and welcoming arms. And though I will prepare this little munchkin for a sometimes cruel world, I will also equip this kid to see all the beauty in it as well."

FISHBURNE’S PLEA DEAL REVOKED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

LAURENCE FISHBURNE’s daughter MONTANA is facing the prospect of a three-month stint in jail after prosecutors withdrew their offer of a plea deal.
The 19 year old is embroiled in an assault case following an incident last February (10), when she allegedly attacked her boyfriend’s ex-lover.
Montana initially pleaded not guilty to a battery charge, but reportedly agreed to change her plea to guilty after prosecutors offered her the chance to spend time in rehab in return for a lenient sentence without jail.
The teenage porn star entered a treatment clinic in September last year (10), but her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, claims prosecutors subsequently withdrew their offer and now want her to spend 120 days in jail.
Legal documents obtained by TMZ.com suggest Montana took too long to respond to the deal, and prosecutors retain their right to withdraw the offer if it is not accepted. Holley argues prosecutors should honour the original deal.

GERVAIS REFUSING TO APOLOGISE FOR GLOBES GAGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

RICKY GERVAIS is adamant he didn’t do "anything wrong" during his stint as Golden Globes host and is refusing to apologise for his risque gags.
The British comedian sparked outrage at the glitzy show last weekend (16Jan11) with his jokes, which poked fun at the star-studded crowd.
Phillip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group behind the awards, called Gervais’ jibes "totally unacceptable", while the funnyman was forced to deny he was pulled offstage during the ceremony and chastised for his remarks.
He has now confronted the controversy in an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, and insisted he doesn’t need to apologise for his jokes, as he was just doing his job.
Gervais says, "I don’t think I did anything wrong. I honestly, you know those were like jibes at these people and I’m sure they’ve got a sense of humour… I’m not going to apologise for being true to myself. My strategy is to make me laugh. If there’s anyone in the world like me, that’s a bonus…. I’m sorry if they were offended but I’m not sorry for anything I said. They hired me for a job and if they didn’t want me, they shouldn’t have hired me. Just because you’re offended does not mean you’re in the right…
"I’m not judging them (the stars) for what they did… I’m confronting the elephant in the room. Like, I’m going to go out there and not talk about the issues in their industry.
"Don’t forget, I’ve got to be an outsider there. I mustn’t come out there as everyone’s mate and schmooze - that’s nauseating. I’ve got to come out there, and I’ve got to roast them."

RIHANNA’S DAD ‘FEELS SORRY’ FOR BROWN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:31 am

RIHANNA’s father admits he "feels sorry" for his daughter’s ex-lover CHRIS BROWN despite his brutal attack on the pop star two years ago (09).
The Umbrella singer fell out with her father Ronald Fenty in 2009 after he spoke to the media on her behalf in the wake of her infamous fight with her then-boyfriend.
Fenty, who reconciled with Rihanna over the Christmas period (Dec10), has now risked his daughter’s wrath again by admitting he is sympathetic towards the Kiss Kiss singer - because a "stupid mistake" has had a negative effect on his career.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "It was really tough seeing the pictures of her beaten up.
"But I have forgiven him. He has lost so much from one stupid mistake. So me making him feel even worse makes no sense. I feel sorry for him now."

MANN SLAMS ‘DICTATORS’ BEHIND JACKSON ESTATE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:28 am

KATHERINE JACKSON’s business partner HOWARD MANN has criticised the administrators of MICHAEL JACKSON’s estate after they filed suit over allegations he is cashing in on the late superstar’s image without proper permission.
Estate bosses are suing Mann, claiming he has made millions from Jackson’s music, photos and drawings illegally.
According to court papers, they believe Mann hauled in more than $1.5 million (£1 million) from Katherine Jackson’s coffee table book, Never Can Say Goodbye, in its first two days on sale - and they want to recoup all the revenues, as well as damages.
Mann is furious the lawyers behind the estate are chasing him to garner more profits, and has labelled them a "fraudulently obtained dictatorship" in a rant to TMZ.com.
He adds, "These lawyers have absolutely no interest in the preservation of Michael Jackson’s legacy and less interest in generating revenues for his beneficiaries.
"The Estate will fall as a result of these draconian tactics and it is my hope that Miss Jackson regains control of that which was stolen from her." Jackson’s estate is managed by executors John Branca and John McClain.

BARLOW DUETS WITH MARTIN AT 40TH BIRTHDAY CONCERT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:28 am

TAKE THAT star GARY BARLOW enjoyed a memorable 40th birthday on Thursday (20Jan11) - he performed with CHRIS MARTIN for a star-studded audience and received a special message from SIR ELTON JOHN.
The singer/songwriter took to the stage for a special charity gig in London to mark the milestone.
A nervous Barlow admitted before the concert - his first solo show in over a decade - that he was worried the birthday bash seemed egotistical, but his fans weren’t concerned as he played all of his most popular hits.
Barlow was joined by the Coldplay frontman for a rendition of his band’s classic track Back For Good, before the Rocket Man gave a birthday message via videolink wishing him many happy returns. Robbie Williams, who recently rejoined Take That for the first time since quitting the group in 1995, wished his pal all the best in another video. British singer Ellie Goulding, who recently recorded a version of Elton John’s Your Song, also sang a duet with Barlow.
His bandmates Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange then joined him on-stage for the show’s finale, and made Barlow close his eyes while they and the all of the 2,000-strong audience slipped on masks of his face. The sea of Barlows then sang the group’s hit Shine before serenading the singer with Happy Birthday.
The gig attracted a host of celebrities, including Lulu, David Walliams, Kimberley Walsh and James Corden.

COHEN TO PLAY HUSSEIN CHARACTER IN NEW COMEDY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:26 am

Funnyman SACHA BARON COHEN is set to play a ruthless leader inspired by late Iraqi president SADDAM HUSSEIN in new comedy THE DICTATOR.
The Borat creator has signed up to play the tyrannic former president in a film based on a romantic novel, thought to be written by the dictator in 2000.
Zabibah and the King, which was released in Iraq under the late leader’s supposed pseudonym The Author, told the story of a king who falls in love with a married commoner. It was a bestseller.
Baron Cohen is planning to bring a touch of humour to the much-hated politician’s tale in a film Paramount Pictures describes as "the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed".
Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm writers Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel will pen the script.
The movie is set for a spring 2012 release.
