CELEBRITY BEAUTY SALON BOSS ENTERS GUILTY PLEA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:47 pm

A beauty salon boss accused of scamming A-list clients including LIV TYLER and JENNIFER ANISTON out of thousands of dollars has pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud as part of a plea deal.
Maria Hashemipour was arrested in August (10) on federal fraud charges for allegedly stealing her clients’ credit card information and making fraudulent purchases on their behalf.
Hashemipour, owner of the exclusive Beverly Hills Chez Gabriela Studio, is said to have tallied $280,000 (£186,667) in unauthorised charges to clients including Aniston, Tyler, Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Cher and Melanie Griffith.
On Friday (21Jan11) she entered a guilty plea to one count of access device fraud at Los Angeles federal court on the condition another 40 charges against her would be dropped.
The 51 year old faces a fine of up to $240,000 (£160,000) and a maximum 10-year prison term when she is sentenced at a later date. She has been ordered to pay back her victims in full.
Hashemipour also faces possible deportation from the U.S. after admitting she hails from Mexico, not Spain as she originally claimed when entering the country.
Hollywood jewellery designer Loree Rodkin, who first notified police of Hashemipour’s scam when she reported that $63,000 (£42,000) was charged to her card without her authorisation, is glad justice has been served.
She says, "I’m happy it’s over and she’s going to jail. I’ve recovered the money from the credit card company. But it’s the fact someone can steal from you who is in a position of trust. It’s staggering."

Former AMERICAN IDOL hopeful NIKKI MCKIBBIN’s pop career was doomed early on when she rebuked SIMON COWELL for a comment he made about her eyes, according to a new book.

Richard Rushfield, the author of American Idol: The Untold Story, tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "There was a lot more interaction between judges and contestants and Nikki McKibbin, who ended up coming in third place that year, says that Simon Cowell approached her backstage and made a comment about her eyes that she found offensive and creepy.
"She is not one to hold her tongue and lashed out at him and, in no uncertain terms, she says she told him she thought he was a perv.
"Subsequently, because of this or not, she was Simon’s whipping post for the rest of the season and could do no right for the rest of the year after that."

GALLAGHER SUFFERS FROM SKIN DISEASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:40 pm

LIAM GALLAGHER suffers from skin disease psoriasis - and the condition is so bad, a fan once mistook flakes of skin on the rocker’s scalp for cocaine.
The former Oasis star has opened up about the disorder, revealing his entire body is covered in sensitive red patches.
And Gallagher credits the problem with causing one of his most bizarre fan incidents - after a devotee saw white flakes of skin shedding from his scalp and snorted his hair thinking it was cocaine.
Gallagher tells Q magazine, "I’ve got bad skin. I’ve got psoriasis all over my f**king body. Everywhere except me face. And every now and again on me head.
"Everyone’s backstage and this geezer (man) comes up to me off his t**s (intoxicated), going, ‘I ain’t seen Oasis for f**king years, f**king great.’ And I’m going, ‘Yeah, alright.’ And he goes to his mate: ‘Look Steve, he’s even got cocaine in his hair.’ And he pulls a bit of s**t out me hair and snorts it up both nostrils. On my f**king life, it’s true."

MARLEY’S FAMILY WIN IMAGE RIGHTS CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:38 pm

BOB MARLEY’s family has won a legal battle against the bosses of an apparel company, who were accused of unfairly selling products bearing the reggae legend’s image.
Marley’s heirs filed suit in January 2008, alleging Nevada-based AVELA and its owner Leo Valencia intentionally interfered with the family’s businesses, Fifty-Six Hope Road Music Ltd. and Zion Rootswear, which were formed by the singer’s widow Rita and nine of his 11 children.
According to court filings, AVELA executives first licenced Marley’s identity in 1986 and then in 1999, and granted Zion Rootswear bosses the exclusive worldwide licence to design, manufacture and sell T-shirts bearing Marley’s image.
But Valencia was accused of selling his own T-shirts and other products featuring Marley’s likeness across America.
A federal jury ruled in favour of the star’s family on Friday (21Jan11) and U.S. District Judge Philip Pro ordered Valencia to pay the Marleys $300,000 (£200,000) in damages.
Judge Pro is expected to award further damages for profits lost due to unfair competition.
Following the ruling, the icon’s son Rohan Marley said, "(The verdict) affirms what we’ve been saying all along: we are the rightful owners of all rights to our father’s identity and persona - not because we inherited it, but because we had to buy back those rights many years ago and have taken great care to protect his legacy, identity and persona since his passing almost 30 years ago." The defendants’ lawyers are now planning to appeal the ruling.
Marley died of cancer in 1981, aged 36.

MINAJ KICKED OUT OF LONDON HOTEL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:38 pm

Hip-hop sensation NICKI MINAJ was officially kicked out of a London hotel on Friday (21Jan11) after bosses became annoyed with the growing number of fans crowding the venue to catch a glimpse of the star.
Minaj is currently on the British leg of her European promotional tour and checked into The Dorchester earlier this week (begs17Jan11) for the duration of her stay in the U.K. capital.
Hotel executives allegedly threatened to boot the rap star out of her suite after sending fans into a frenzy and causing chaos whenever she stepped out to meet devotees and sign autographs.
And bosses had had enough by Friday, ordering Minaj and her entourage to leave the hotel.
In a post on Twitter.com, which has now been removed, Minaj wrote, "Long day of press only to find out we’ve officially been kicked out the hotel! …Rescue me barbz (fans)!!!! Pleeeeeeeasse… U can’t have me w/o (without) my barbz (fans)! We’re a packaged deal!!!!" Asked by one follower why she had been kicked out of The Dorchester, Minaj replied, "Cuz the barbz n paps (paparazzi) were camping out n they said my barbz r 2 "young". And they said yesterday while I was out doing press, a fight broke out and an ambulance was called for 1 of my barbz (sic)." Minaj has now checked into the nearby Landmark hotel.
The accommodation news wasn’t the only upset for the star this week - she was forced to axe a promotional appearance at London club Runway on Thursday night (20Jan11) when a brawl broke out in front of the venue.

MYSTIQUE MAKE-UP PROMPTED ALLERGIC REACTION FOR LAWRENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

WINTER’S BONE star JENNIFER LAWRENCE suffered for her art on the set of the new X-MEN prequel FIRST CLASS - she had an allergic reaction to the body paint that turned her into mutant MYSTIQUE.
A skin doctor was called to the set when the pretty star broke out in rashes and boils when the blue paint was applied to her skin.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I got a couple of things from the paint, like weird boils, rashes and blisters… and a doctor had to pop them." But once that scare was taken care of, Lawrence really began to realise what she had signed up for - months of daily make-up misery.
She explains she spent up to eight hours in the make-up chair every day.
She adds, "Nothing’s sacred anymore. Those girls (make-up assistants) and I got so close. They were painting me naked every day for months. It was kind of like going to a really bizarre sleepover."

REDFORD WILL NEVER HEAL FROM ‘SCAR’ OF LOSING SON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

ROBERT REDFORD doubts he will ever fully recover from the tragedy of losing his infant son more than 50 years ago.
The Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid star was just 23 when he and his then-wife Lola’s first child, Scott, died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at two-and-a-half months old.
Redford, now 74, has rarely spoken out about the heartbreak, but admits in a new magazine interview that the young couple blamed itself for the tot’s untimely demise - a "scar" he will bear for the rest of his life.
He tells AARP, "It was really hard. We were very young. I had my first theatre job, which didn’t pay much.
"We didn’t know anything about SIDS, so the only thing you think is that you’ve done something wrong. As a parent, you tend to blame yourself. That creates a scar that probably never completely heals." Redford went on to have three more children with Lola, before they divorced in 1985 after 27 years of marriage.
He wed his longtime girlfriend Sibylle Szaggars in 2009.

ROMERO AGREES TO PLEAD GUILTY IN MARRIAGE SHAM CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

Mexican actress FERNANDA ROMERO will plead guilty to lying on immigration documents to avoid a retrial over allegations of marriage fraud.
The 28 year old, who landed a small role in 2009 horror Drag Me To Hell, is accused of marrying American musician Kent Ross in 2005 so she could obtain permanent residency in the U.S.
During the original trial last year (10), the jury at Los Angeles Federal Court heard how Romero reportedly began an affair with celebrity photographer Markus Klinko in 2007, despite being married to Kent, and told the snapper she only wed for immigration purposes.
Prosecutors claimed Romero and Kent never lived together and alleged the musician was paid $5,000 (£3,330) to marry the actress.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to counts of marriage fraud and making false statements in September (10), but jury members failed to reach a unanimous verdict and it was declared a mistrial.
The case was due to be tried again this year (11), but now Romero has reportedly agreed to acknowledge she made a false statement on an immigration form in 2007, according to court records filed in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Ross has also agreed to plead guilty to falsely stating on papers that he and Romero were living together in both 2005 and 2006, reports the Associated Press.
Romero and Ross are due in court on 28 January (11) to formally enter their guilty pleas.

JEWEL MENTORS KIDS AS DYLAN MENTORED HER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:20 am

Pop star JEWEL jumped at the chance to mentor wannabe singers on new TV talent search PLATINUM HIT - because it gives her the chance to do what BOB DYLAN did for her.
The Still Standing hitmaker will join former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi on the new U.S. show and she admits that helping budding stars realise their true potential brought back memories of how Dylan took her under his wing when she was starting out.
She recalls, "I was really lucky when I was 20; my first album was flopping and my record label wanted me to make a second album and Bob Dylan took me under his wing.
"He mentored me every night after the shows. I would have all my lyrics with me and he gave me books to read and music to listen to. I would be like, ‘I don’t have a hit’.
"I was homeless before this and I didn’t want to go back to living in my car. I was scared. He was adamant about me being who I am and being authentic and go the hard route, insisting, ‘It will pay off in the long run’." And Dylan wasn’t the only icon to come to her rescue: "Then, after that, Neil Young took me under his wing. I was lucky to have these mentors - they helped me tow that line of having art and commerce mix; you can have both."

KATHERINE JACKSON CHALLENGES PROMOTERS’ LAWSUIT DISMISSAL REQUEST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:19 am

MICHAEL JACKSON’s mother has launched a legal battle with the King of Pop’s concert promoters, insisting they ignored life-threatening activities that were going on behind closed doors at the star’s rented mansion - and resulted in his death.
Katherine Jackson is suing executives at AEG, the company behind the Thriller hitmaker’s doomed comeback shows in London, for fraud and negligence.
The late pop superstar’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has been ordered to stand trial on involuntary manslaughter charges, relating to the June, 2009 tragedy - and the singer’s mum feels sure promoters knew what he was doing.
Katherine is challenging AEG’s motion to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit against the company, according to TMZ.com.
In her documents, she alleges AEG retained Dr. Murray for an "exorbitant salary of $150,000 monthly," and in return Murray agreed to "get Jackson to attend rehearsals and perform".
Her legal team claims, "AEG should have known that the course of treatment being administered by Dr. Murray was unorthodox and unsafe." Dr. Murray is accused of administering the dose of anaesthetic Propofol, which killed Jackson.
