BBC ISSUES APOLOGY OVER FRY’S BOMB JOKES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:29 pm

Bosses at Britain’s BBC have issued an apology after comedian STEPHEN FRY sparked a number of complaints by making jokes on TV about the atomic bombs dropped on Japan during World War II.
During an episode of comedy quiz show QI, which was broadcast in the U.K. last month (Dec10), the funnyman made a number of gags about Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who survived both the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
Fry called Yamaguchi "the unluckiest man in the world" for escaping the Hiroshima bombing with minor injuries and then returning to his native Nagasaki shortly before the city was also attacked.
BBC chiefs have received a letter of complaint from officials at the Japanese embassy and they have now apologised for Fry’s jokes.
A joint statement from the corporation and the show’s Talkback Thames production company, reads, "We are sorry for any offence caused. QI never sets out to cause offence with any of the people or subjects it covers. However, on this occasion, given the sensitivity of the subject matter for Japanese viewers, we understand why they did not feel it appropriate for inclusion in the programme." Fry adds in a post on Twitter.com, "I’m coming to Japan the week after next as it happens, and I’ll certainly let my regret (be) known (if they let me in!)." Yamaguchi is the only person to have been formally recognised by the Japanese government as having survived both atomic bombings, which killed more than 200,000 people. He died last year (10) at the age of 93.

SMITH SLAMS WILLIS OVER COP OUT ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:41 am

Director KEVIN SMITH has launched a scathing attack on BRUCE WILLIS, branding the actor "soul crushing" to work with.
The Die Hard star led the cast of Smith’s 2010 comedy Cop Out, but the film was panned by critics and the moviemaker subsequently compared the scathing reviews to "bullying".
Smith has now revealed he was unimpressed with the actor’s attitude on set and his alleged reluctance to promote the picture.
Speaking on American comedian Marc Maron’s podcast, Smith says, "It was difficult. I’ve never been involved in a situation like that where one component is not in the box at all. It was f**king soul crushing.
"I mean, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, you’re just trying to blame the movie on him’. I had no f**king help from this dude whatsoever." But Smith is full of praise for Willis’ co-star Tracy Morgan, adding: "He’s a f**king dream. Tracy Morgan, I would lay down in traffic for. Were it not for Tracy, I might’ve killed myself or someone else in the making of that movie."
