Singer/songwriter JANELLE MONAE has followed CEE LO GREEN’s lead and pulled out of a festival in Australia to perform at the Grammy Awards next month (Feb11).
The 25 year old was set to appear at the Good Vibrations weekender in Sydney on 12 February (11) and Melbourne the following day (13Feb11), but Monae has axed the trip Down Under after being asked to sing at the music awards in Los Angeles.
A statement from the festival organisers reads, "We can confirm that Janelle Monae has just been added to the line up to perform at the Grammy Awards on February 13th. This last minute announcement from the Recording Academy unfortunately means that Janelle Monae will no longer be able to appear at the 2011 Good Vibrations Festival as planned." Green announced last month (Dec10) that he was pulling out of the line-up to take to the stage at the Grammys.

British rockers FOALS look set to dominate the 2011 Shockwaves NME Awards after landing five nominations.
The group has been tipped in the Best British Band category, against Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Kasabian and last year’s (10) winners Muse.
Foals will go up against Arcade Fire for the Best Album prize - their record Total Life Forever will compete with the Canadian group’s The Suburbs. The bands will face Crystal Castles (Crystal Castles II), My Chemical Romance (Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys) and Two Door Cinema Club (Tourist History) for the nod.
Florence Welch, Frank Turner, Kanye West, Laura Marling and Paul Weller will compete for Best Solo Artist, while Cee Lo Green (F**k You), Foals (Spanish Sahara), Gorillaz (Stylo), Janelle Monae featuring Big Boi (Tightrope) and Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. (Bang Bang Bang) are all named in the Best Track category.
The winners will be revealed at the prizegiving in London on 23 February (11).

Rocker BRET MICHAELS is recovering in an Arizona hospital after undergoing successful surgery to mend a hole in his heart.
Doctors discovered the problem last year (10) and the Poison star checked into St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix for the procedure on Monday (24Jan11).
The operation has been hailed a success, and Michaels is under the observation of doctors in the intensive care unit, according to the Associated Press.
Michaels cheated death last year (10) when he suffered a brain haemorrhage. Medics discovered the heart condition while they were treating him.

COLIN FIRTH is continuing his reign at the top of the box office in Britain - THE KING’S SPEECH is the nation’s number one movie for a third week.
The period film took in $6.3 million (£4.2 million) to keep newly-released Black Swan off the top spot.
Natalie Portman’s film opened with $4 million (£2.7 million).
Seth Rogen’s action movie The Green Hornet dropped a place to three, with takings of $1.77 million (£1.18 million), narrowly beating comedy The Dilemma, which opened with $1.65 million (£1.1 million). Jack Black’s Gulliver’s Travels rounds out the top five.

JULIETTE LEWIS surprised film students in Los Angeles on Monday (24Jan11) by turning up unannounced at a seminar to give them tips on how to make it in the movie industry.
The Natural Born Killers star headed to the Californian branch of the New York Film Academy to speak about her experiences as an actress - and she admits her appearance was a closely-guarded secret.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page before the talk, she writes, "I’m speaking at the New York Film Academy today! I love talking to film/acting students. Just arrived at NYFA in L.A. to do a Q and A! The class does not know I’m coming only teacher. I love suprises!" After the lecture had finished, she added, "All the students at NYFA were so incredible! Thanks for being intelegent (sic) and inspiring. U keep me on my toes! Great class! Smart bunch. Actor MACAULAY CULKIN has spoken out to silence reports he’s been dating a Spanish porn star since his split from MILA KUNIS.
The couple parted ways at the end of last year (10) after an eight-year relationship.
Culkin was linked to adult actress Irene Lopez last week (ends23Jan11) after they were pictured together, but the former child star has moved swiftly to dismiss the new romance rumours.
He tells E! News, "As I do with many fans, I briefly met and took a photo with Irene Lopez at her request. MIRANDA KERR had no qualms about sharing a snap of her breastfeeding newborn son FLYNN, and she hopes the picture will encourage other mothers to choose the natural option for their child.
The model and her husband Orlando Bloom welcomed the tot earlier this month (Jan11), and Kerr later uploaded an intimate photo of herself nursing the newborn on her Kora Organics website.
She’s now explained her decision to show off such a revealing picture - the beauty wants to encourage others to breastfeed.
In a post on her website, Kerr writes, "Our little man is now 17 days old and we are still pinching ourselves as to the reality of having had a baby and of having brought this beautiful little soul into the world… and a beautiful little soul he is…
"The photo was one of the first photos Orlando took. We both loved it and we wanted to share it. The pleasant surprise was that it also had the added benefit of promoting breastfeeding which to me is the most natural thing in the world and I love it and the bonding time we have during these precious and beautiful moments.
"Everyone has a right to choose what they feel is best for their own baby and some people cannot breastfeed and/or do not want to and I totally respect that each person has that right to choose… don’t abandon breast feeding because of any ’social’ stigma (perceived or real) that might be attached to breastfeeding in public. Honestly, I for one can say there are more breasts being shown on a daily basis around the world in swimwear and low-cut dresses and tops than there are from breastfeeding mums.
"I intend to breastfeed for as long as I can. My breast milk will give our little Flynn the nutrition he needs for his continued healthy development."

Actress DENISE RICHARDS has taken aim at MTV bosses over the U.S. adaptation of British TV hit SKINS, branding the show’s saucy content "disgusting".
The new series, which premiered in America last week (17Jan11), features controversial storylines involving sex and drugs, as well as foul language and nudity.
The first instalment caused a furore in the U.S. - a parents campaign group complained about the content and major advertisers have since pulled their support for the show.

AVATAR star SAM WORTHINGTON has donated $50,000 (£35,000) to the flood relief campaign in his native Australia, after bidding for the top lot at a Los Angeles gala auction on Saturday (22Jan11).
The actor was among the guests at the G’Day USA event, which honoured stars including Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb and actress Abbie Cornish.
The night also featured an auction, with a top prize of a luxury, all-expenses paid stay at an exclusive resort on Hamilton Island in Queensland.
Worthington, who grew up in Perth, was the winner of the lot after bidding a staggering $50,000, according to Australia’s Associated Press.
Floods devastated towns across the states of Queensland and Victoria this month (Jan11) - thousands have fled their homes and at least 25 people are feared to have died.

Memorabilia from HEATH LEDGER’s films, including THE DARK KNIGHT and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, will go on display as part of a tribute exhibition in Australia next year (12).
The late star’s family is working with bosses at the WA Museum in his native Perth to create a tour chronicling Ledger’s life.
Items featured in the exhibition will include his 2009 posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of The Joker in the Batman movie, as well as his costume from the film and a diary he kept while developing the twisted character.
Other memorabilia from A Knight’s Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You will also go on show, along with pieces from his interests outside acting, including chess, photography and directing music videos, according to Perth Now.
Ledger passed away after suffering an accidental drug overdose in 2008.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ boyfriend JASON TRAWICK has re-signed as her agent as the superstar prepares for another pop comeback.
The Toxic hitmaker began dating Trawick in early 2009 and he stepped down from his post as her representative last May (10) so they could concentrate on their romance.
He continued to work at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, looking after the interests of clients such as Paris Hilton, Taylor Swift and Hilary Duff, but he has now rejoined the team in charge of Spears’ career, a spokesperson has confirmed.
However, Trawick will not be helping with the singer’s return to the pop charts - he will focus on her acting endeavours.
A source tells UsMagazine.com, "Jason will be part of the team handling her career. He won’t be the only agent working with her." Spears is due to release a new album, the follow-up to 2008’s Circus, later this year (11). Her new single, Hold It Against Me, has already proved to be a big hit, breaking U.S. airplay records when it was distributed to radio stations earlier this month (Jan11).

The 1955 custom-built vehicle went under the hammer at a celebrity Barrett-Jackson car auction in Arizona at the weekend (23Jan11).

Music mogul SIMON COWELL has slammed producers who rely on market research to govern their decision making, insisting his TV talent shows would never have aired if the powers that be waited for feedback from the public.
The man who has enjoyed a string of TV hits with shows like Pop Idol, American Idol and The X Factor fears too many decisions about what gets recorded in the studio and what is put on TV are dictated by what the public thinks it wants.
He says, "I can’t bear research. Research just kills creativity because people lie in research or they say things they think the person wants to hear, or they overthink it.
"If they’d researched Idol before it went on air, it would not have gone on air - because people would have felt guilty about saying that they like it."

Rocker NICK CAVE has reportedly been offered the chance to undergo a "driver training" course to avoid prosecution for crashing his car last month (Dec10).
The Australian smashed into a speed camera in Hove, England. No other vehicles were involved in the collision and no one was harmed.
Cave, who was not arrested following the incident, has now been given the chance to enrol in a safety course for drivers and avoid charges.

Country superstar KENNY ROGERS has kicked off his tour of Australia by donating $10,000 (£6,700) to the nation’s flood relief fund.
The Coward of the County singer has been left shocked by the images of flood devastation, which hit the states of Queensland and Victoria earlier this month (Jan11). Thousands have fled their homes and it is feared that at least 25 people have died.
Before Rogers’ first show Down Under in Tamworth on Sunday (23Jan11), the singer handed over $10,000 to help victims of the environmental disaster.
He tells the Australian Associated Press, "The other day I was watching the news and I realised what a real tragedy this is for so many people.
"If you hear 5,000 people were killed, you can’t really relate to it, but if you hear one family has an incredibly touching story, you realise that could have been you. This is a devastating thing for your country and it doesn’t look like it’s over with yet.
"You see it on television, you see it in newspapers but until you actually witness it, I don’t think any of us can really appreciate what a terrible, terrible thing this is." Rogers also reveals he will be staging collections at each of his gigs in Australia and has urged his fans to give "change for change".

Rapper 40 GLOCC has been arrested in San Bernardino, California on weapons violation charges.
The G-Unit Records rap star, real name Lawrence White, was caught by police in possession of a nine-millimetre semiautomatic handgun on Sunday (23Jan11).
White was identified by police as a member of the Colton City Crips gang.
He was arrested close to an area he and other gang members are banned from congregating near under a 2008 court injunction.
Other gang members were with him.
White was arrested and booked on suspicion of various weapons violations. He previously denied being a member of the gang.
