AUSSIE SINGER’S VIDEO SHOOT DISRUPTED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:47 pm

Australian pop star ZOE BADWI narrowly escaped injury during the filming of her latest music video after an angry resident allegedly fired a catapult at her and tipped water over the production crew.
The singer was shooting the promo for new song Accidents Happen on a street in Sydney last week (ends23Jan11) when the disturbance took place.
Badwi claims someone took a shot at her from an overlooking window, and the missile narrowly missed a crew member working on the shoot.
She tells the AAP, "I don’t know what was in the slingshot but it was something because it flew past one of the guys’ heads and he heard it hit the wall, so it was pretty serious. I don’t know if the person was angry with life but it was on; i was ready to go buy a carton of eggs and pelt his window… Cars drive down that road all the time which are way louder than me and anyway it was a Friday night." No arrests were made and the video shoot was completed a few days later.

BOYLE VOTED SCOT OF THE YEAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:44 pm

Singing sensation SUSAN BOYLE has seen off competition from actor EWAN MCGREGOR to be named Scot of the Year.
Boyle enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame after footage of her audition on U.K. TV show Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 spread across the internet and made her an overnight star.
She has since enjoyed two number one records in both Britain and the U.S., and was named Sony’s highest-selling international artist earlier this week (begs24Jan11).
The unlikely pop idol has now earned a much more personal honour - she’s been voted Scotland’s star of the year for 2010.
She received a 95 per cent share of the public vote, ahead of disgraced Scottish politician Tommy Sheridan, who is facing a jail term for perjury, in second place with three per cent.
McGregor was third with two per cent in the ScotsCare survey.

BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE IS BACK WITH A BANG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:44 pm

British rocker MICK JONES is hoping to treat fans to new material when he reunites his 1980s band BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE this year (11).
Jones, who founded the punk rock reggae group in 1984 after leaving The Clash, has convinced the original line-up to get back together after 20 years apart.
The band will kick off a U.K. tour in March (11) and Jones is already making plans to debut new tracks after their long hiatus.
He tells the BBC, "It is all the original guys, so thank God we’re all still alive. It’s very nice to reacquaint ourselves fully… We’re going to have to practice. First we’re going to do a couple of weeks of pre-production, try to find the old tapes and get the old samples.
"I’m hoping to use a lot of the old gear (instruments) as well because it sounded very different. The old songs have matured with age and there’s a possibility we may be able to do some new stuff, who knows? We’re going to try and recreate some of the old feelings and look for some new ones." Big Audio Dynamite has also scored a coveted slot at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in California in April (11).

KE$HA’S EX-MANAGERS DEMAND END TO LEGAL TUSSLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:41 pm

KE$HA’s former managers are pushing for a resolution to their ongoing legal battle with the pop star - in case she squanders her fortune and can’t afford a pay-out.
The TiK ToK hitmaker is facing legal action from her former representatives at DAS Communications, who are suing for $14 million (£9.3 million) over allegations she owes them commission for unlawfully terminating her contract before she signed a major music deal.
In new papers filed at New York’s Manhattan Supreme Court, DAS bosses suggest the star may be delaying the case - and they fear she may be broke by the time the matter is resolved.
The documents, obtained by the New York Post, state: "(Ke$ha) is a very young and inexperienced artist whose ’star’ may not continue to rise.
"Although she has made an incredible amount of money in a very short period of time, in large part due to DAS’ efforts on her behalf, she could just as easily lose money if not properly guided." Ke$ha is countersuing, claiming bosses at DAS Communications acted unlawfully during her time at the firm because they allegedly booked her a string of jobs in California without the proper paperwork.

JONES WORRIES ABOUT TOUGH-GUY IMAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:41 pm

Actor VINNIE JONES is keen to move into comedy roles - but fears he will be stuck playing tough guys for the rest of his career.
The former soccer ace found fame in Hollywood with his gritty role in Guy Ritchie’s 1998 gangster movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and has since taken on a string of similar hard man parts.
But Jones is worried about being type-cast, and fears moviegoers only buy tickets to his films to see him in violent scenes.
He tells Recognise magazine, "I’d like to get into comedy, but no one will take the chance. I’m not known for my comedy. A lot of my roles are tongue-in-cheek but people don’t see it.
"The trouble is you go and do a nice piece, like a film I shot with Derek Jacobi and Vanessa Redgrave (2007’s The Riddle) a few years ago where I had the lead role. All the critics said it was a great little film, a great story and great acting but audiences just want to see Vinnie bashing people up."

SKINS CREATOR ADDRESSES CONTROVERSY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:38 pm

SKINS creator BRYAN ELSLEY has responded to the controversy surrounding the drama, insisting the series "tells the truth" about teenagers’ lives.
The American adaptation of the British TV show, which premiered in the U.S. last week (17Jan11), has been met with outrage from viewers and a parenting campaign group over its risque storylines involving sex and drugs.
Elsley, who wrote Skins with his young son Jamie Brittain, has defended the programme, describing it as an honest depiction of modern youth.
In a statement posted on MTV.com, he explains, "Skins is a very simple and in fact rather old fashioned television series. It’s about the lives and loves of teenagers, how they get through high school, how they deal with their friends, and also how they circumnavigate some of the complications of sex, relationships, educations, parents, drugs and alcohol.
"The show is written from the perspective of teenagers, reflects their world view, and this has caused a degree of controversy both in the U.K. and the U.S.A… It tries to tell the truth. Sometimes that truth can be a little painful to adults and parents." Elsley’s statement comes as a string of major corporations, including Subway and Taco Bell, pulled their promotion from Skins’ ad breaks.

FRANCO MADE SEX TAPE AS A TEEN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:38 pm

JAMES FRANCO gained a newfound respect for professional porn stars after he tried and failed to make his own saucy sex tape at the age of 19.
The Spider-Man star admits he filmed his raunchy bedroom antics as a teenager but was less than impressed when he watched back the footage.
Franco, who has dated actress Ahna O’Reilly since 2006, now admits he commends adult movie stars for managing to look attractive and "really selling" sex.
Speaking at Newsweek magazine’s Oscar roundtable discussion, Franco says, "I think (as) anybody who has made a home sex tape knows, what feels best doesn’t always look best. I remember when I was 19 doing that, and then watching it back and thinking, ‘Oh, that looks horrible.’ "You have a lot of respect for those actors in pornography, because they are really not just doing it, they’re really selling it. You understand what it’s like to be intimate with someone, so you just kind of let yourself go over to that situation."

KENNEDY, JR. BRANDS MINISERIES ‘INACCURATE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:38 pm

ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR. is relieved a miniseries about his famous family was axed from U.S. TV - because he feared THE KENNEDYS was "historically inaccurate".
Kennedy, Jr., the son of late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, admits he has yet to see the drama, which was pulled earlier this month (Jan11), but he has his doubts over the creators’ intentions.
And the 57-year-old attorney insists he wouldn’t want Americans to watch a series that is "not true".
He tells Access Hollywood, "You know, I don’t know much about it… My understanding of it was that it was historically inaccurate, that it was created by a group of people who had an extreme and ingrained hostility towards my family and that they, you know, they twisted history.
"I don’t think that - in any case, whoever it’s about - that we should be teaching history to Americans that is not true." The Kennedys, which starred Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as his wife Jackie, was dropped by executives at America’s History Channel after they decided it was "not a fit" for the network.

CUMMING FELT ‘AWKWARD’ AROUND TAYMOR ON TEMPEST SET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:35 pm

Scottish actor ALAN CUMMING felt "awkward" when he first started shooting THE TEMPEST, because he feared director JULIE TAYMOR was still angry with him for quitting her beleaguered SPIDER-MAN musical.
Cumming walked away from his role as the Green Goblin in lavish Broadway stage production Spider-Man:Turn Off the Dark last April (10) after a series of set-backs.
The show, directed by Taymor, has since been further delayed following a string of on-set accidents, including the hospitalisation of seriously injured stuntman Christopher Tierney, who underwent spinal surgery after falling from a ledge during a performance last month (Dec10).
Cumming is relieved he escaped the ill-fated production in time, but admits he was scared his relationship with Taymor would be tainted when filming began on her big screen re-imagining of the Shakespeare play.
He tells Britain’s The Guardian, "My God, that was a lucky escape. Jesus Christ! Talk about dodging a bullet there! It just f**ked me about. It kept getting delayed and delayed, and so I was like, ‘OK, time to move on.’ "It was a bit awkward (with Taymor). She wasn’t best pleased when I quit. But the thing about Julie is that she’s very blinkered about her work, and then things go into the ether. So the next time I saw her for The Tempest, it was like it never happened."

He tells news show Entertainment Tonight, "They’ve asked but when I do musicals I train for six to nine months… and a show like that is an on-demand thing.
