WEAVER ‘RELIEVED’ BY OSCAR NOD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:17 pm

JACKI WEAVER felt "relieved" when her Oscar nomination was announced on Tuesday (25Jan11) - because her fellow Australians would have been "so disappointed" if she hadn’t been recognised for her role in ANIMAL KINGDOM.
The Aussie was taken by surprise when she found out she will compete for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her star turn in the crime drama, against Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter, Melissa Leo and Hailee Steinfeld.
And Weaver admits her first thought was for fans Down Under who have been supporting her Oscar drive.
She tells the Los Angeles Times, "I’m just so relieved. Everyone in Australia would have been so disappointed if I hadn’t been nominated. I’m so thrilled… I feel honoured. It’s so unexpected at this stage in my career." Weaver also reveals she tried to stay awake for the early morning TV broadcast, but fell asleep shortly before the nominations were announced - and she only found out about the honour when she received a text message from her ex-husband.
She adds, "I nodded off just before they announced my nomination so I didn’t know until I got the text. That’s how I found out."
