TRIBE STARS BOYCOTT DOCUMENTARY AT SUNDANCE
Members of rap supergroup A TRIBE CALLED QUEST boycotted the premiere of a new documentary about the band after falling out with director MICHAEL RAPAPORT.
The group was expected to put on a united front at the screening of Beats, Rhymes & Life at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Saturday (22Jan11), but leading members Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jarobi and Q-Tip were no-shows.
The boycott, announced in a statement, comes after rapper Q-Tip accused Rapaport of being insensitive to the group’s requests regarding certain scenes in the film.
The joint statement reads, "Thanks to our fans for their support through the years and for the enthusiasm around the documentary. We hope that the film’s perspective conveys our love of hip-hop culture.
"We could not attend Sundance, but we want to express our love and appreciation for the support that we have received in advance of the film’s premiere tonight. We hope that it is well received."
