DAMON ALBARN will put his popular group GORILLAZ on hiatus in 2011 to give him time to write a new stage show.
The Clint Eastwood hitmakers wrap up their world tour this month (Dec10) and the British rocker has confirmed they will be taking an extended break next year (11) to focus on other projects.
Albarn and his Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett will be busy writing a new U.K. stage production, which has been commission by the Manchester International Festival (MIF) and English National Opera organisations as part of the London 2012 Olympic celebrations.
The show will premiere at the MIF in 2011 and Albarn admits Gorillaz will have to wait until he’s finished work on the production.
He tells Australian radio station Triple J, "I’m putting it (Gorillaz) back in a box for a while. Just putting it back on the shelf. I’ve got other stuff. I’m doing a piece for the Manchester International Festival about Elizabethan occult philosophy. It kind of was the end of magic and the beginning of science." Albarn and Hewlett previously wrote an opera for the MIF, Monkey: Journey to the West, in 2007.

GLEE stars including MATTHEW MORRISON, CHRIS COLFER and CORY MONTEITH have thrown their support behind a campaign encouraging youngsters to take up music.
The actors, along with Mark Salling, Jenna Ushkowitz and Harry Shum, Jr., visited a school in Los Angeles earlier this month (07Dec10) to promote The Education Through Music organisation, which aims to introduce students to the arts.
The famous group spent time with the kids and helped them design and make their own instruments, including a guitar fashioned from a box and string.
Shum, Jr. is adamant studying music will encourage kids to embrace their education, saying, "Arts did help me, it got me really excited to go to school." Morrison adds, "We’re here building instruments this morning, it’s very exciting. This is a great organisation helping kids get into the music.
"Kids who get into music, their maths scores improve, their reading improves… music has been proved to be a great facilitator for education."

EDDIE CIBRIAN’s ex-wife BRANDI GLANVILLE has been charged with two drink-driving offences in relation to a DUI arrest back in October (10).
Glanville, whose marriage to the actor ended in divorce after his affair with singer/actress LeAnn Rimes, was driving through Los Angeles when cops pulled over her car, and she was detained after failing a field sobriety test.
She has now been charged with two misdemeanour offences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and driving with a blood alcohol level above 0.08 per cent, according to TMZ.com.
The make-up artist faces up to six months behind bars and a $1,000 (£667) fine if convicted.

A lawyer for shamed celebrity investor KENNETH STARR has been released on $1 million (£666,000) bail after he was charged with helping cover up the financial adviser’s crimes.
Starr is facing up to 20 years in prison after he admitted embezzling $30 million (£20 million) from clients such as Uma Thurman, Martin Scorsese, and Wesley Snipes.
He pleaded guilty in September (10) to charges including wire fraud and money laundering, and is due to be sentenced in February (11).
And Starr’s lawyer Jonathan Bristol is now caught up in the fallout from the case - he was arrested on Thursday (16Dec10) and accused of helping to conceal the Ponzi-style scheme by hiding money in secret accounts.
Bristol pleaded not guilty at a federal court in Manhattan, New York and has been freed on $1 million bond.

Broadway’s troubled SPIDER-MAN musical is facing yet another delay as producers scramble to re-write the script and add new music ahead of the 2011 opening, according to a U.S. report.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was initially scheduled to begin previews nearly a year ago in January 2010, but the launch has been pushed back numerous times as theatre bosses battled to get the curtain up amid rising costs and rigorous safety checks for the show’s aerial stunts.
Preview performances began in late November (10) but a number of onset accidents and a further round of inspections by safety officials saw the opening delayed until 11 January (11).
But the New York Times reports the official start date has now been postponed another month to allow producers to make a series of changes to the music, dialogue and choreography.
U2 rockers Bono and The Edge, who composed the score for the production, will reportedly go back to work on the show this month (Dec10) in a bid to re-work the closing sequence. The new start date is said to be in February, according to the newspaper.

The In Da Club hitmaker, who has launched his own fashion range, energy drinks and fragrance, wants to expand his business empire further with shares in optical company Gunnar Optiks, according to Allhiphop.com.

Bosses at America’s CNN network have vehemently denied they were to blame for a Twitter.com update alleging MORGAN FREEMAN had died - insisting the message was a "hoax".
U.S. TV chiefs allegedly released a message on the microblogging site on Thursday (16Dec10) stating, "Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home." The message was re-Tweeted around the world and prompted an outpouring of tributes to the star.
Freeman’s pal Peter Shankman quickly went online to insist the actor was still very much alive, and asked CNN bosses to retract their statement.
It was reported online that the news giant removed the update and said the breaking news was a "mistake".
However, editors subsequently undated CNN’s Twitter page insisting they have launched an investigation as the Tweet did not come from them.
On the network’s page, bosses write, "CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax."

DAVID ARQUETTE has backtracked over his comments suggesting his separation from wife COURTENEY COX has prompted a nervous breakdown - insisting it was "a joke".
The couple revealed in October (10) they had decided to take a break after 11 years of marriage.
The former Friends star has kept a dignified silence since their trial separation began, but Arquette went public to reveal their lack of bedroom action and how the actress grew tired of his immaturity - and he opened up further on Howard Stern’s radio show on Wednesday (15Dec10).
When asked by the shock jock if he’s "having a nervous breakdown", Arquette replied, "I believe so." He confessed he had been drinking heavily since his marriage revelation and had "embarrassed" himself at a Hollywood party after mistaking Tom Cruise for someone else.
But despite his own claims, Arquette has taken to his Twitter.com page to insist he is not experiencing a meltdown.
He writes, "It is being reported that I’m having a Nervous Breakdown. I assure you am not. This stemmed from a joke I made.
"I always speak my mind and I really don’t care what people that don’t know me may say. I’m a good person with a huge heart. I thank those that have been on my side during this rough time."

ELIZABETH HURLEY is "bored" of the fuss surrounding her separation from husband ARUN NAYAR, and insists rumours she is preparing to file for divorce and move to Australia are untrue.
The pair’s relationship hit headlines in Britain on Sunday (12Dec10) when the News of the World reported the actress had spent two nights at a London hotel with cricket ace Shane Warne last week (begs06Dec10).
The actress has been at the centre of speculation that she is set to rush through a divorce and is planning to keep all of her own money. There have also been rumours the beauty is keen to move to Warne’s native Australia to be closer to her alleged new love interest.
But Hurley has taken to her Twitter.com page to blast the reports, revealing she has taken no steps towards divorce and is staying in the U.K.

And the gossip is obviously getting to Hurley - she had to abandon her favourite alcoholic beverage of vodka, lime and soda after running out of the citrus fruit because she’s too tired to shop.

Actress RUMER WILLIS is stepping into the fashion industry as the face of designer brand Badgley Mischka.
The daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore will front the label’s new spring 2011 campaign, following in the footsteps of Carrie Underwood and Eva Longoria Parker.

British rocker PETE DOHERTY is hoping to waltz into his first acting role - he’s taking dance lessons in preparation for filming his movie debut later this month (Dec10).
The Babyshambles and Libertines musician is set to star alongside actress Charlotte Gainsbourg in French production Confession d’un Enfant du Siecle, about the life of 19th century writer Alfred de Musset.
And to get himself into character, Doherty is learning how to dance.
On his blog, he writes, "My character must display natural grace and poise - as was expected of a young aristocrat and dandy of 1830’s French society.
"I was going to film the lesson, but it didn’t seem appropriate. The teacher was just as I had imagined - straight backed, horsewhip in hand, and a brutal perfectionist."

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE rocker GERARD WAY has vowed to watch his waistline for the sake of his career - because dropping more than 40 pounds (18.2 kilograms) has given him a confidence boost on stage.
Way admits he struggled with "severe body issues" growing up, and has been as heavy as 198 pounds (90 kilograms) during the past 10 years.
A new strict diet has brought the singer down to 156 pounds (70.9 kilograms), the lowest of his adult life - and Way insists shedding the extra weight has a big impact on his live shows, because he’s no longer trying to hide his bulging belly behind clothes.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It was about feeling free and moving and being a little more fearless onstage, that’s what this was about, so I just had to get in shape. I grew up with several body issues, and then basically used our wardrobe to shield those body issues for the entirety of the band’s career."

Rapper WACKA FLOCKA FLAME’s manager mother DEB ANTNEY is fuming after cops who raided the star’s home allegedly referred to her as a brothel madam.
Police entered the star’s Georgia home on Thursday morning (16Dec10) as part of an investigation stemming from allegations of drug and illegal weapons possession.
Rapper Gucci Mane, who was present and is also managed by Antney, was handcuffed during the raid but later released, although two other men at the property were arrested and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
During the raid, cops confiscated two guns and a number of prescription drugs from the house.
And Antney is furious cops caused a scene in her son’s upmarket neighbourhood and claims she was offended by officers who assumed she was running a prostitution ring.
She tells MTV.com, "Of course I’m not gonna sit back and be called ‘the Candy Lady’. There was no prostitution. And we’re not gang-affiliated.
"It had nothing to do with prostitution. The weapons they found were licensed weapons. There was under an ounce of marijuana, but it was nothing but a blunt. The other drugs were medication that was in Wacka’s room from when he got hurt.
"There’s nothing going on for you to kick a door in. We were really surprised, but the neighbours always watch. We live in a country club, so they always watch, they always assume."

Revered U.S. newsman LARRY KING shed a tear as he hung up his braces and stepped down from his renowned CNN talk show after 25 years on Thursday (16Dec10).
The 77 year old announced he was leaving his weeknight show in the summer (10) and his finale was one to remember with America’s former president Bill Clinton and current leader Barack Obama both appearing via videolink to congratulate King on his work.
He was also joined in the studio by actor-turned-California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who proclaimed Thursday ‘Larry King Day’.
King’s final show was bought to a close by crooner Tony Bennett who sang classic The Best Is Yet To Come on a live link from Louisiana.
As he said goodbye to his viewers, a teary King said, "It’s not very often in my life I’ve been lost for words. I want to thank everybody associated with this programme, everybody that makes it possible - even the suits at the top.
"When I started out 25 years ago in a little studio in Washington DC I never thought it would last as long as this." King will be replaced by America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan.

Fans of MORGAN FREEMAN were sent into a panic on Thursday (16Dec10) after a respected news organisation mistakenly tweeted that the Hollywood star had died.
America’s CNN released an update on Twitter.com stating, "Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home." The message prompted an outpouring of notes of condolences and tributes to the star and his family.
However, the legendary actor’s pal Peter Shankman put a stop to the shocking claims, replying to CNN’s message and insisting Freeman "was - and is - very much alive".
The news giant took down the message shortly afterwards and confirmed the tweet was a "mistake".
