AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s NIGHTMARE has been named the best heavy rock album of 2010 in music magazine Revolver’s end-of-year round-up.
The group, who lost drummer Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan at the end of last year (09), beat the Deftones, Fear Factory and Triptykon to the top of the rock pile in the new issue of the publication.
The Deftones’ Diamond Eyes came in second, while Mechanize by Fear Factory was third.
Volbeat’s Beyond Heaven/Above Hell, Option Paralysis by The Dillinger Escape Plan, Iron Maiden’s The Final Frontier and Absolute Dissent by Killing Joke also made the top 10.

The wife of tragic SLIPKNOT star PAUL GRAY has paid tribute to the rocker, insisting he was so much more than a drug addict and died because of a mistake.
The bass player was found dead in an Iowa hotel room in May (10) after suffering a drug overdose, but his wife Brenna wants fans to start 2011 remembering Gray as a great husband and musician - not as a drug user.
As part of a tribute piece in rock magazine Revolver, Brenna Gray joins Gray’s bandmates and his brother to remember the dead star.
Brenna, who gave birth to the rocker’s daughter shortly after his death, tells the publication, "I don’t want people to judge him for the mistake that he made. He wasn’t just a drug addict. That was a little part of his life that he couldn’t overcome.
"He was a great guy, a great musician, a great husband, a great friend, a great brother, a great son. And I just want people to know that." The new mum is now hoping that by talking about her husband’s death, she can save a life.
She explains, "I’ve been working with the organisation MusiCares, and if they can get my story out there, as hard as it is to tell… if one person can save their life with my husband losing his, that’s what matters."

A planned big screen adaption of STARGATE ATLANTIS has been shelved "indefinitely" following the cancellation of sci-fi TV show STARGATE UNIVERSE earlier this month (Dec10).
The series, a spin-off from popular 1994 film Stargate, will come to an end in the spring (11), and the axing of the show appears to have put plans for a movie on hold.
TV show Stargate Atlantis aired from 2004 to 2009.
In a post on his blog, executive producer Joe Mallozzi reveals, "I’m sorry to say, but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the SGA movie had made in the past month.
"Contrary to what some may think, the cancellation of SGU is very bad news for those looking forward to an Atlantis movie."

Actress ELIZA DUSHKU spent her 30th birthday on Thursday (30Dec10) celebrating after raising $30,000 (£20,000) for charity.
The Bring it On star is spearheading efforts to build a recovery centre for former child soldiers in Uganda, and she asked friends and family to make donations to the cause instead of buying her expensive presents.
Her loved ones and fans rallied round to help her reach her goal - and she was left overwhelmed when the target was reached in just a few days.

ASHLEY GREENE’s publicist has dismissed reports boyfriend JOE JONAS proposed to the TWILIGHT star over Christmas (10).
The couple has been dating since the summer (10) and they spent the festive season with Greene’s family in Florida.

RUPERT EVERETT has become the latest gay star to speak openly about the downside of ‘coming out’, revealing he was shunned by Hollywood after he declared he was a homosexual.
The My Best Friend’s Wedding star, 51, admits he had to flee Hollywood after his big reveal two decades ago - because no one would hire him.
He tells the BBC, "I just never got a job there (in Hollywood), and I never got a job here (in Britain), after (coming out)… I never had another job here for 10 years, probably, and I moved to Europe." His comments come just days after veteran Richard Chamberlain went public with his regrets about ‘coming out’ as a gay man.
The Thorn Birds star has urged gay actors not to follow in his footsteps - insisting his homosexual admission has damaged his career.
The 76-year-old star revealed his homosexuality in his autobiography, Shattered Love, published in 2003 and he recently told gay publication The Advocate the confession wasn’t a good career move.
He said, "There’s still a tremendous amount of homophobia in our culture. For an actor to be working (at all) is a kind of miracle, because most actors aren’t. So it’s just silly for a working actor to say, ‘Oh, I don’t care if anybody knows I’m gay’ - especially if you’re a leading man.
"Personally, I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man-type actor to come out… Despite all the wonderful advances that have been made, it’s still dangerous for an actor to talk about that in our extremely misguided culture."

Actress SHENAE GRIMES has dismissed reports she’s dating rocker JOHN MAYER, insisting the romance rumours are "embarrassing".
Editors of a U.S. gossip magazine linked the 21-year-old 90210 actress to serial celebrity dater Mayer earlier this week (begs27Dec10), but Grimes logged on to Twitter.com on Wednesday (29Dec10) to blast the claims.

KANYE WEST has been targeted by hackers once again - the unfinished music video for his new track Monsters has leaked online.
A gory five-minute video, which features Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, hit the internet on Thursday (30Dec10), shocking viewers with graphic images of zombies feasting on flesh, as West raps about being "the best living or dead, hands down".
In one segment Jay-Z appears rapping in front of a dead naked woman draped face-down on a leather couch, while West later stands in another holding a woman’s severed head. A scantily clad Minaj interrogates her alter ego, who is strapped to an executioner’s chair, in another clip.
The fuller version is similar to the first graphic glimpses seen last month (Nov10), when a preview of the video leaked without West’s permission.
An official release date for the Monster music video has not been announced and West had not issued comment on the leak at press time.
He was left fuming earlier this year (10) when several of his unreleased songs, including all-star track All Of The Lights, featuring vocals from Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Sir Elton John, were leaked ahead of schedule.

BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE have jetted back from a Christmas break in Namibia to visit a hospital in the actor’s native Springfield, Missouri.
The celebrity couple joined Pitt’s parents Bill and Jane for a tour of the pediatric wing of St. John’s Hospital, which was renamed to St. John’s Jane Pitt Pediatric Center last year after the family donated $1 million (£666,600).
The sighting comes amid unconfirmed news reports suggesting Pitt and Jolie staged a "pretend wedding" in the Seychelles Islands a month before Christmas (10).
U.S. publication In Touch reports the pair exchanged vows that were not legally binding in front of their six children and select friends.
The top secret beach ceremony was held "mainly for the kids", according to an insider.

Bosses at hairloss firm Rogaine are courting balding royal PRINCE WILLIAM for a major new ad campaign.
The heads of the haircare company want the groom-to-be to become a spokesman for them - and they’re sending him a basket of goodies ahead of his 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton in the hope he’ll be suitably impressed.
A company spokesman tells Life & Style magazine, "We’ve been watching Prince William’s growing bald spot closely for years, and we believe Rogaine can help.
"We’d love to send him our new Unscented Men’s Rogaine Foam. William would be the perfect spokesman for Rogaine because whether you’re a prince or an average Joe, hereditary hair loss affects one in four men.

DAVID BECKHAM has further distanced himself from allegations he slept with a prostitute in 2007 by swearing under oath he has never even met her.
On Tuesday (28Dec10), Beckham filed a declaration in his $25 million (GBP16.6 million) lawsuit against hooker Irma Nici and the publishers of In Touch Weekly magazine, who ran her story earlier this year (10).
In his declaration, obtained by TMZ.com, the sporting hunk, who is married to former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham, insists Nici "fabricated" the facts of her expose, and goes on to list them.
He denies, "that in August 2007, I committed adultery with Nici and another prostitute by paying for sex with the two of them," and "that about a month later, I again committed adultery with Nici at the Claridges Hotel in London." He also states that Nici’s claims she slept with him "five times in total" are "unequivocally false." Beckham concludes, "I have never met Nici, let alone committed adultery or paid her for sex."

JOHN LENNON’s Imagine Peace Tower is lighting up the sky in Iceland.
The beam-of-light art installation on Vioey Island in Reykjavik launched on Thursday (30Dec10) to belatedly mark the 30th anniversary of the late Beatle’s death.
The tribute tower can be viewed by fans as part of a live feed on the official Imagine Peace Tower website.
The rocker’s widow, Yoko Ono, who is encouraging fans and well-wishers to send messages of peace and love to the site, says, "It (tower) emanates wisdom, healing and joy."

Country star ALAN JACKSON has handed pal ZAC BROWN the keys to a classic car as a thanks for gifting him a number one record.
Jackson was invited to sing on the Zac Brown Band’s As She’s Walking Away, which has stormed to the top of America’s country music charts, and the singer showed his gratitude by giving Brown a 1966 white Cadillac El Dorado convertible prior to a concert in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday night (29Dec10).

The scores for TRUE GRIT and BLACK SWAN have been ruled out of the Oscar race - because they feature too much existing music.
Officials at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences have selected 77 film scores for members to vote on between now and 14 January (11), when the ballots are due - and there are some big omissions.
The Academy bosses have disqualified Clint Mansell’s Black Swan score and Carter Burwell’s True Grit music - because they feature themes from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and sections from 19th-century music, respectively.
Burwell’s The Kids Are Alright score has also been disqualified because the film was "diluted" by having too many songs on the soundtrack, according to EW.com.
Composer James Newton Howard leads the Best Score list with four eligible efforts for Salt, Love and Other Drugs, The Last Airbender and The Tourist, while another Oscars favourite, Alexandre Desplat, and David Arnold have three apiece. Clint Eastwood is also on the shortlist for his Hereafter music.
The nominations will be announced on 25 January (11).

CHRIS BROWN has moved to end his war of words with former B2K star RAZ-B by publicly apologising for reacting badly to the singer’s Twitter.com attack.
Brown came under fire for making homophobic comments in his angry response to Raz-B, who took aim at the Kiss Kiss singer over the way he treated ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown and Rihanna split in February, 2009 after he beat her up during a fight on the eve of the Grammy Awards.
The R&B star has since pleaded guilty to the brutal attack and is still serving community service for the abuse.
And Brown admits he used poor judgment when he took to his Twitter.com account to blast Raz-B on Wednesday (29Dec10).
He tells TMZ.com he’s sorry for making crass sexual references that many say were homophobic.
He says, "Yesterday was an unfortunate lack in judgment sparked by public Twitter attacks from Raz B, who was bent on getting attention. Words cannot begin to express how sorry and frustrated I am over what transpired publicly on Twitter.
"I have learned over the past few years to not condone or represent acts of violence against anyone. Molestation and victims of such acts are not to be taken lightly; and for my comments I apologise - from the bottom of my heart.
"I love all of my fans, gay and straight. I have friends from all walks of life and I am committed, with God’s help, to continue becoming a better person." Brown made offensive comments about Raz-B’s past - linked to the singer’s claims he was the victim of sexual assault during his time in B2K. The Kiss Kiss singer wrote, "Tell me this… Why when the money was coming in u won’t complaining (sic) about getting bu**plugged!"

HUGH HEFNER’s ex-girlfriend BRIDGET MARQUARDT has sent the Playboy boss and his new fiancee a sweet treat to mark the couple’s Christmas engagement.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS plans to watch BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN with her daughter by HEATH LEDGER - so her little girl can see the film which brought her parents together.
The actress met her late ex-fiance Ledger on the set of the cowboy drama in 2004 and they went on to welcome Matilda the following year (05).
The couple parted ways in 2007 and a year later (08), the actor died of an accidental overdose in his New York City apartment.
Williams has since raised Matilda on her own, but she hopes to share the film with her daughter so the youngster can see her parents together.
She tells Angeleno Magazine, "What does that movie (Brokeback Mountain) mean to me? That movie is many, many things… It is a piece of cinema history and I happen to be involved in it. There’ve been a few films that I have been so transported by the filmmaking that I couldn’t focus… I felt like I got really close to the thing that I wanted to do and I was very proud… to be associated with it.
"I was just an actor who happened to be lucky enough to be in the right place, and it was the place where I met Matilda’s father, and that is a lot. It was a lot. And it will be a lot for Matilda too, when she gets around to watching it.
"I will watch it with her, when she’s ready. It is hard to imagine what that would feel like, but one day, yes, we will watch it together."
