BLACK SWAN PRODUCER LAWSUIT UNDERWAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:07 pm

Executives at a film production company in New York are locked in a legal battle with the company’s former president over who won the firm a credit on new movie BLACK SWAN.
Bosses at Overnight LLC, led by producer Rick Schwartz, have filed suit against Aaron Kaufman alleging his "gross lapses in judgment" cost the company millions of dollars in lost revenue.
The suit, filed at a court in Manhattan, claims Kaufman "misrepresented his knowledge, skill and experience (and) pretended to be knowledgeable about the financing of motion pictures when he was not." It accuses him of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and misappropriation of corporate opportunity.
Kaufman has slammed the claims and hit back, alleging Schwartz only received a credit as executive producer on Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, because of his help and has vowed to counter-sue over the matter.
He tells Reuters, "Literally every point is either baseless or shaded to the point of being a lie. Literally there is not almost a single factual thing in the lawsuit, and he goes after me personally, which is libellous."

SPIDER-MAN STAR ‘FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:07 pm

SPIDER-MAN musical stuntman CHRISTOPHER TIERNEY walked again on Christmas Eve (24Dec10) for the first time since an onstage accident which left him hospitalised over the holidays.
The daredevil fell from a platform during a performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark last week (20Dec10) and suffered numerous injuries including several broken ribs, a fractured elbow, a bruised lung, three fractured vertebrae and a cracked skull.
Tierney had to spend the festive season at a New York hospital after undergoing back surgery last Wednesday (22Dec10), but he delighted his family by struggling back to his feet on the day before Christmas.
His father Timothy admits the 31 year old is lucky to be alive and will be in the audience when the beleaguered show finally opens in February (11).
Timothy tells the New York Times, "My understanding is that Chris is fortunate to be alive. If they’d had to fuse Chris’ vertebrae during surgery, that would have just been very awkward for dancing, because his mobility would have been restricted.
"Fortunately, they did not have to fuse. The doctors have some pins in his body and rods in his body for now to hold everything together, but a great deal of this is about self-healing, and time.
"We just feel very blessed that Chris is alive and well, and thank goodness that he knew enough to roll onto his right side and land that way rather than land on his head or back. Some people fall from a lesser height than Chris and suffer more damage, even fatal damage…
"This was an accident, pure and simple. He’s just chomping at the bit to return to dancing, to go back to Spider-Man. He loves this production so much. I haven’t had a chance to see it, but we have tickets for opening night. It looks like Chris will be in the audience with us that night, and we’ll be glad to have him there."

ARNOLD & SCHWARZENEGGER REPRIMANDED BY SHRIVER OVER PHONE CHAT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:19 am

TRUE LIES co-stars and pals TOM ARNOLD and ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER were made to feel like naughty schoolboys by the action man’s tough wife MARIA SHRIVER after a candid phone chat about a sexy legislator became public.
Schwarzenegger had just become Governor of California when he and Arnold attended a charity function hosted by an unnamed leading lady - and he took a call at his office from his pal the next day.
The two stars joked about how hot the legislator was - but they didn’t realise all calls to the Governor are taped.
Arnold recalls, "He said, ‘She’s (legislator) so freakin’ hot; she’s, like, half black and half Latino…’ "The L.A. Times (newspaper) played it (taped call) on the TV and it made us look like buffoons." The Governor publicly apologised and the target of their bawdy chat insisted she wasn’t upset by their comments - but that didn’t appease Shriver, who called Arnold to her home for a chat.
He adds, "Maria is standing above us and she’s like, ‘How old are you two?’ She said, ‘Just don’t do it anymore… (and) if you’ve gotta do your stuff, use a cellphone. I know you guys have got to be 12 sometimes." Arnold admits the dressing down was like a meeting with the school principal but he has an awful lot of respect for the former news anchor, who is a member of America’s famous Kennedy family.
He adds, "She’s a very forgiving woman… I love her, I respect her… Do not cross her."

BATT PAYS ONLINE TRIBUTE TO WOMBLES CREATOR BERESFORD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:16 am

British musician MIKE BATT has written an online essay to pay tribute to the creator of the beloved U.K. children’s stories, which helped him achieve fame and fortune.
The Wombles creator Elisabeth Beresford, who was also a broadcaster, died on Christmas Eve (24Dec10), aged 84.
Batt helped put music to her litter-collecting Wombles stories when they became a TV staple in the mid-1970s.
Calling her "a lady who changed my life" in a post on his website, Batt writes, "Elisabeth changed my life dramatically and irrevocably when in the late sixties, long before I knew her - she dreamed up the Wombles while walking on Wimbledon Common with her children Marcus and Kate.
"They were just…Wombles. They lived underground and came up at times when they were unlikely to be spotted by humans, and would convert all the old rubbish left behind by us, into useful items to use in their daily life.
"The first book The Wombles that appeared caused quite a ripple of interest… After that the BBC commissioned a series of five minutes Wombles episodes which were aimed at a pre-school audience but which had the good fortune to be narrated by Bernard Cribbins…
"I was brought in to write the music. I was asked… if I could come up with a signature tune. I suggested that a song might be better, because I could sprinkle it with Womble names and make it sound intriguing. So I came up with The Wombling Song.
"Even though the Wombles took up only two years of my 42 year career to date, even to this day I am still referred to as ‘The Man Behind The Wombles’ - a fact which I would imagine must have irritated Liza (Beresford) as much or more than it irritated me (although she never showed it)." Batt reveals he kept in contact with Beresford long after The Wombles’ TV time ended, and once visited her on the island of Alderney, where she lived out her years.
He recalls, "She was her usual charming, maternal self and we had a very pleasant couple of days thinking about the impending remake of some Wombles material." Spurred on my Beresford’s death, Batt is now planning a major Wombles revival - as a tribute to the late writer.
"Recently, I’ve been talking to the even more grown up Marcus and Kate - the two children who had been walking on the Common with Liza on that fateful day - the day that changed their lives, their mother’s life, and mine. We’ve been talking about the possibility of a Wombles revival… Something Liza would be proud of.
"Liza has been ill for some time, but aware of our discussions. I know Marcus would particularly have liked his mum to have seen the new, high quality incarnation of the Wombles, and to have shared in the fun.
"Alas, that is not, now, to be. But I do think Marcus and Kate will have kept Elisabeth up to date with our progress, and now, all the more, I feel a duty to help to bring about a new awakening for the Wombles - in memory of the very special woman who created them."
