Officials at GEORGE CLOONEY’s anti-genocide awareness organisation Not On Our Watch have joined forces with Google boffins to launch a satellite border watch of the area that splits north and south Sudan ahead of the nation’s vote for separation next month (Jan10).
Following a recent trip to the war-torn African nation, Clooney warned of civil war after the south votes in a secession referendum.
He lobbied U.S. politicians to do what they could to prevent unrest in Sudan, but the movie star fears the worst as the big vote approaches.
However, his Not On Our Watch partners are keen for the world to see what’s going on at the border in the coming weeks and they’ve teamed up with Google for the Satellite Sentinel Project, which will collect imagery and help campaigners further fight for Sudan support.
Clooney says, "We want to let potential perpetrators of genocide and other war crimes know that we’re watching, the world is watching. War criminals thrive in the dark. It’s a lot harder to commit mass atrocities in the glare of the media spotlight." Southern Sudan’s independence referendum takes place on 9 January (11).

The writer/producer of upcoming film DOGS IN POCKETBOOKS is backtracking over statements he made suggesting the movie is based on the colourful life of LINDSAY LOHAN - after the actress’ mother threatened to take legal action.
Lydia Hearst and Joan Collins have signed up for roles in the gritty drama, about a troubled young star making her way in Hollywood.
Screenwriter Charles Casillo riled Lohan’s parents after admitting Hearst’s part is "obviously based on Lindsay Lohan" earlier this week (begs27Dec10).
He told the New York Post, "(The movie) is in no way mean-spirited towards Lindsay. It’s the kind of thing she has spoofed about herself in the past. It’s more of a satire about the crazy people around her." But the writer/producer is rethinking his pitch after the Mean Girls star’s mum Dina threatened legal action in a bid to scrap the movie.
Casillo tells TMZ.com his comments have been "totally blown out of proportion", and insists the character was inspired by several young starlets, including Lindsay, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, and Hollywood icons including Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow.

Country music icon MERLE HAGGARD has been given the all-clear after a two-year battle with cancer.
The Okie From Muskogee singer/songwriter had surgery to remove part of his lung in 2008 and admits it has been a struggle to get his health back.
Haggard, 73, scrapped a series of shows in September (10), prompting fans to worry his cancer had returned - but he was given a big health boost just before he was feted at the Kennedy Center Honors earlier this month (Dec10).
He tells RollingStone.com, "It took a long time to get over that surgery. It took the best part of two years and I’m just now feeling like I might be able to reach over and pick up a garbage can with the right arm. They removed an upper lobe of my right lung, and they had to go in underneath my arm. It’s quite painful and irritating to have that. You know how tender that is underneath your arm.
"To have that heal up, it takes a couple of good years. I think I’m all right now. I went down and had a check-up just prior to going back for this little gig (Kennedy Center Honors) and I was clear. I didn’t have anything, and that’s an awful good sign."

Ivan Cobenk is a pudgy superfan of the Footloose star, who first appeared online at the beginning of the month (Dec10) as part of the odd new ad campaign.

Lawyers in the new Iraq have been instructed to watch classic movie TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD in a bid to get to grips with social injustice in their country.
Bosses at U.S. legal firm Mayer Brown have created a school for budding legal eagles in Iraq and they’re instructing wannabe attorneys to watch the Oscar-winning film adaptation of Harper Lee’s tale of racism and injustice, so they can better serve future clients.
Mayer Brown partner Matt Rooney tells MSNBC, "I took movie clips from To Kill A Mockingbird in order to show what (Gregory Peck’s character) Atticus Finch was doing… and then I critiqued Atticus’ performance in terms of the lawyering skills.
"I was convinced that it was a really good teaching tool to use, because, when I thought about who these people were, these are lawyers that are very similar to Atticus Finch - they represent women who are battered women in the justice system, juveniles, people caught up in sexual trafficking… That was what was going on with Atticus representing (character) Tom Robinson.
"They appear in front of hostile forums just like Atticus Finch did, they’re in front of an all-white jury, the community they’re in is not necessarily supporting of them. A lot of these lawyers are women in an all-male judicial system… in front of hostile judges. They’re sometimes scorned for representing the people that they represent."

THE PRINCESS DIARIES stars ANNE HATHAWAY and JULIE ANDREWS are in negotiations to reteam for an upcoming episode of GLEE, according to U.K. reports.
Dame Julie is in talks to play the grandmother of Chris Colfer’s gay character Kurt Hummel, while 2011 Oscars co-host Hathaway is reportedly close to signing on to play his aunt, according to the Daily Express.
It’s a dream come true for Hathaway, who recently revealed she’s desperate to land a guest role on the show.
The Devil Wears Prada had even worked out the whole storyline and the song she’d love to sing.
Hathaway said, "In my head, I’ve cast myself in Glee and I know what song I’m going to sing! I would wanna play Kurt’s long-lost aunt’s mother’s sister who is also gay, (who) comes back to help him deal with his sexuality, and I would sing You Are Not Alone from Steven Sondheim’s epic show Into the Woods."

Former FRIENDS star MATT LEBLANC is on the verge of a major TV comeback after taking a break from Hollywood to nurse his daughter through a brain disorder and concentrate on a punky hairdo.
The actor, who made his millions as clueless Joey in the hit sitcom, dropped out of the spotlight in 2006 when his spin-off show Joey was cancelled.
But Le Blanc, who is the star of critically acclaimed new U.S. cable show Episodes, insists he hasn’t been idle.
He tells TV Guide magazine, "When Joey ended, it was a weird time in my life. I’d gotten divorced (from actress Melissa McKnight), and my daughter had been diagnosed with this weird brain thing. Now she’s out of the woods with all that stuff. But it was a really stressful time.
"I just didn’t want to have to be anywhere, do anything - just be a dad and ride my dirt bikes. For a little while, I had a full-on Mohawk (hairstyle)." And now he’s back sporting a new grey look: "I started going grey very young, and I started dyeing my hair during Friends. But, after taking five years off, I was like, ‘What’s the point?’"

A celebrity feud is brewing after actress CHLOE SEVIGNY branded British socialite PEACHES GELDOF "a girl who doesn’t do anything" in a recent Playboy interview.
The Boys Don’t Cry star told the January, 2011 issue of the men’s magazine that she believes the phrase ‘It’ girl is used "too loosely", and she took aim at Geldof in particular.
She stated, "Today the term is used to describe, say, Peaches Geldof - a girl who doesn’t do anything but is just sort of around." Outspoken Geldof has read the article and she has taken to her Twitter.com page to respond.
Hinting at a little-known longstanding feud between the pair, she writes, "Dear Chloe Sevigny. I noticed you made some catty remarks about me in the press. You and I both know the real reasons behind this, don’t we? "I now know you’re still not over it, which makes me feel sad for you. Don’t use public snide comments as a platform for your anger over MM.
"People hold grudges over the silliest things for a long time, sometimes almost two years, apparently." It is unclear who ‘MM’ is, but Sevigny broke off her eight-year romance with A.R.E. Weapons star Matt McAuley in 2008.

VAL KILMER is facing financial woes amid reports he owes nearly $500,000 (GBP333,330) in unpaid U.S. federal taxes.
According to DetNews.com, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) filed a $498,165 (GBP330,110) lien against Kilmer on 30 November (10) in New Mexico, where he owns a multi-million dollar ranch he put up for sale last year (09).
It’s not the first time the Top Gun star has had issues with taxes.
The IRS filed a lien against him for $538,000 (GBP358,670) in 2009. He reportedly settled that debt earlier this year (10).
Kilmer’s publicist has failed to respond to requests for a comment.

A representative for ADAM SANDLER has slammed internet gossip suggesting the star died on Tuesday (28Dec10).
The funnyman passed away after suffering fatal injuries during a Christmas skiing trip in Switzerland, according to the crazy online story, but Sandler’s spokesperson has moved swiftly to dismiss the shock speculation.
The rep tells GossipCop.com, "It’s completely not true and such irresponsible journalism." ASHTON KUTCHER is getting toned and tough - so he can fend for himself and look after his family following an Armageddon-type crisis.
The movie star and producer, who is married to health nut Demi Moore, fears a major U.S. energy meltdown is nigh and he’s trying to get superfit so he can deal with the chaos that will follow a blackout or worse.
Kutcher discovered combat training Krav Maga last year (09) as he prepared to tone up for his role in Killers and now he’s obsessed with running, Bikram yoga and Muay Thai fighting with the French national champion - and he insists he’s committed to his extreme workouts, so he can dominate in desperate times.
The 32 year old tells Men’s Fitness magazine, "It will not take much for people to hit the panic button. The amount of convenience that people rely on based on electricity alone. You start taking out electricity and satellites, and people are going to lose their noodle.
"And people are going to go, ‘That land’s not yours, prove that it’s yours,’ and the only thing you have to prove it’s yours is on an electronic file… People’s alarm systems at their homes will no longer work, Neither will our heating, our garbage disposals, hot-water heaters that run on gas but depend on electricity.
"What happens when all our modern conveniences fail? I’m going to be ready to take myself and my family to a safe place where they don’t have to worry… All of my physical fitness regimen is completely tailored around the end… I stay fit for no other reason than to save the people I care about." And he admits he tasted what life could be like after a major national or international calamity when he, Moore and her kids were left without power for 14 hours at their mountain cabin last Christmas (09).
He adds, "I got my guns out. We made a fire. We went to the grocery store… People were rolling in and out, clearing out all the shelves… It was like a preview."

And she warns bigots who may question whether two gay men can give a child everything he or she needs to keep their thoughts to themselves - because in her experience more and more kids are being brought up by gay or lesbian parents.
She adds, "Each classroom where I have expert consulted in private schools has at least one family where the constellation consists of a gay couple, male or female, and their child or children.
"Research suggests that they turn out about the same, no better, no worse and no more likely to be gay than other kids. My professional clinical experience is that gay parents have the same challenges that heterosexual parents do. They must balance loving and nurturing their child with setting and following-through on clear boundaries."

Americans want to see less of MILEY CYRUS in 2011 and they’re longing for a M*A*S*H TV remake and a TAYLOR SWIFT and JAKE GYLLENHAAL engagement, according to a new end-of-year online poll.
Parade.com polled over 1,000 Americans during December (10) and the results are about to be posted online.
Thirteen per cent of respondents wanted a media blackout of Cyrus, 32 per cent would like to see M*A*S*H back on TV, and 36 per cent of those polled want to see Swift and Gyllenhaal take their new romance to the next level and plan a wedding.
Americans also think newlyweds Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher will announce a pregnancy next year, with 27 per cent hoping the country star will become pregnant. Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tied with 21 per cent each, and 20 per cent of people felt sure there would be a big baby announcement for newlyweds Katy Perry and Russell Brand.
A whopping 50 per cent of respondents hoped Sandra Bullock would find true love in 2011; 42 per cent wanted the same for Jennifer Aniston.
Meanwhile, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the film that tops the must-see list in 2011, ahead of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Hangover 2 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

JUSTIN BIEBER’s romance with SELENA GOMEZ is heating up if a new U.S. report suggesting the young couple spent the night together at Miami, Florida’s swanky Gansevoort hotel are to be believed.

Pregnant pop star PINK and husband CAREY HART have spent a whopping $11.5 million (£7.6 million) on a new family home in California ahead of their new arrival next year (11).
The So What hitmaker announced last month (Nov10) she is due to give birth to her first baby in the spring (11) and the couple has been on the hunt for a bigger property.
