RAY CHARLES FOUNDATION SUES SON OVER BOOK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

Officials from the Ray Charles Foundation have filed suit against the late star’s eldest son for publishing a photograph of his father in his new book.
Ray Charles Robinson, Jr., the singer’s son with his second wife Della Robinson, released You Don’t Know Me: Reflections of My Father, Ray Charles in June (10).
But the publication has infuriated executives at the foundation, which was set up by the music legend to take charge of his copyrights and intellectual property rights upon his death in 2004.
Bosses at the organisation filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Wednesday (17Nov10), alleging Robinson, Jr. featured a copyrighted picture of the soul star in the book without permission and also included some of his father’s most famous lyrics in the work.
The suit seeks $150,000 (£100,000) for each copyright violation and also names publishing company Random House, as well as Robinson, Jr.’s co-author, Mary Jane Ross, as defendants, according to the Los Angeles Times.

KWANTEN’S DISASTROUS MEETING WITH SPIELBERG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

RYAN KWANTEN blew his chances of working with STEVEN SPIELBERG after a disastrous first meeting - by parking in the famed director’s spot.
The True Blood star was attempting to carve out a career in Hollywood after moving to Los Angeles from his native Australia in the early 2000s when he landed a coveted meeting with the legendary moviemaker.
The actor cycled to the offices of Spielberg’s DreamWorks production company, but the day went horribly wrong when he realised he had committed the embarrassing error of leaving his bike in the director’s parking space.
He tells the Sydney Morning Herald, "There were no poles at DreamWorks. It’s a very ergonomic place. I just remember wrapping this huge bike chain around this bamboo post, then I ran inside. Two seconds later, an assistant comes running in. ‘Someone’s parked in Mr Spielberg’s spot! Is it anyone here?’ And I’m looking around the room going, ‘Wow, somebody’s really in trouble.’ "Nobody owned up. Two seconds later he runs back in and yells, ‘Who’s got a bicycle?’ I said ‘It’s me.’ He grabbed me by the wrist, ushered me outside, and who should be sitting in his big SUV but Spielberg. I’ve actually wrapped the bike chain over the top of the ‘S’ on Spielberg’s name, which is plastered on the bamboo post. Needless to say, I did not get that audition with him."

And he is adamant the tragedy spurred him to success in his chosen career as a stand-up comedian - because he needed to replace the love he was missing in his home life.
Izzard tells Sky News, "After mum died I thought that the applause of the audience is something I (could) swap for a mother’s affection. That’s how I analyse it."

DE ROSSI URGES AUSSIE POLITICIANS TO SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

PORTIA DE ROSSI is urging politicians in her native Australia to support same-sex marriage - insisting she is "disappointed" in the country’s prime minister for failing to tackle the issue.
The Aussie actress married American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 2008 and has recently turned her attentions to campaigning for gay rights.
De Rossi has been back Down Under this month (Nov10) as part of a promotional tour for her new book Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain, and she took the opportunity to address the topic of same-sex marriage during a radio interview.
The Ally McBeal star admits she thought Australia would have been one of the first countries to legalise same-sex unions and she is adamant Prime Minister Julia Gillard has let down the public by failing to act on gay marriage.
She tells 702 ABC Sydney, "I always thought Australia would pass this equal rights law long before America would. I’m a little bit disappointed with the new Prime Minister. I’m hoping that Australia will be a leader on this."

FERRELL AND DAVID LOSE INVESTMENT BANKING CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

WILL FERRELL and fellow funnyman LARRY DAVID have lost a multi-million dollar legal battle with banking giant JPMorgan Chase.
The two comics, along with Ferrell’s wife Viveca Paulin and his business manager Matt Lichtenberg, filed a complaint against the company in 2008, alleging bankers made $18 million (£12 million)-worth of investments which were "unauthorised and unsuitable".
The group took the grievance to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, but a securities industry arbitration panel has now ruled against them.
The panel ordered the group to pay the banking firm $600,000 (£400,000) in costs and attorney fees, as well as a penalty of $22,500 (£15,000) for breaking legal rules while fighting the case, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

DEMI LOVATO is in "good spirits" and recovering well as she tackles her personal problems in rehab, according to her SONNY WITH A CHANCE co-star STERLING KNIGHT.
The actor recently reached out to Lovato, who entered a rehabilitation centre last month (Oct10) to seek professional help for undisclosed "emotional and physical issues".
Knight admits his pal has been "overworked" and is on the road to recovery after getting the rest she needs.
He tells EOnline.com, "She’s doing well. She’s in good spirits. I didn’t want to bother her too much because I want her to get her rest. I know she’s been overworked for a long time. I’m hoping she stays strong and gets through it.
"You’d rather nip it in the bud sooner than later. I know she’s been real busy - almost entirely too busy for any human being, let alone a 17-year-old girl. It’s nice that she’s handling her stuff." Lovato has been temporarily written out of her hit Disney show but is expected to return once she is fully fit.

RYDER’S HEALTH HELL OVER COLLAPSED THYROID

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:33 am

HAPPY MONDAYS legend SHAUN RYDER was at risk of slipping into a dangerous coma before doctors discovered he was suffering from a collapsed thyroid earlier this year (10).
The British singer, who battled addictions to heroin and crack cocaine in the 1990s, struggled for months to find the energy to perform simple tasks, and spent days in bed while piling on the pounds.
Ryder underwent a series of medical tests earlier this year (10) to determine the cause of his ill health and the worrying result came through just as he was heading to a performance with British band Gorillaz.
His concerned wife Joanne immediately took Ryder to hospital to receive treatment, and he must now take medication for the rest of his life.
Joanne tells Britain’s The Sun, "I was on the (train station) platform and the doctor rang me, saying, ‘Bring Shaun in straight away - he’s got a collapsed thyroid.’ I’d just put him on the train but the doctor said, ‘He’s got to come in now, he shouldn’t even be walking.’ "He’ll be on these tablets every single day for the rest of his life. He suffered a collapsed thyroid earlier in the year - nobody knows about that.
"We got told that he could lapse into a coma in the worst-case scenario, if the condition hadn’t been diagnosed and treated. It was an awful worrying time for us. Shaun just couldn’t get out of bed for months.
"He’s normally such a bouncy character, but he became like a hamster in hibernation - all curled up and constantly shattered (tired). He couldn’t get out of bed for ages." But Ryder, who is currently in the Australian jungle on U.K. reality show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, is learning to live with his condition.
His wife adds, "It was a scary time. I was so concerned and just kept thinking, ‘Where’s my Shaun gone?’ But he’s on his way back to being normal now."

CHER LAUGHS OFF FEARSOME REPUTATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:30 am

CHER is baffled by her reputation as a demanding diva and can’t understand why she comes across as "menacing".
After five decades in showbusiness, the comeback queen has enjoyed success in all her endeavours and has built up a fearsome image, but the Believe hitmaker insists she’s far from scary - and reveals it is she who is sometimes intimidated by journalists and critics.
She tells movie website Collider.com, "I was doing an interview with someone who has interviewed everyone and I was nervous about him because of who he writes for, but he was nervous to talk to me. I said, ‘This is silliness. Don’t be ridiculous. Let’s get this thing together.’ "But, because I’ve been doing this for 45 years, my personality is my personality and, once someone spends time with me, you feel fine. I’m not doing anything. I can’t even imagine what it would be that someone would expect me to do that would be frightening or menacing."

DALTREY JOINS ROCKERS IN CRUSADE AGAINST COWELL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:30 am

ROGER DALTREY is the latest rocker to take aim at SIMON COWELL over his U.K. talent show THE X FACTOR - branding the hit show a "slump" the music industry must recover from.
The Who legend’s rant follows Sir Elton John’s recent outburst, in which he branded the talent show "a**e-paralysingly brain crippling". Madness star Suggs, Suede’s Brett Anderson and New Order rocker Bernard Sumner have also recently lined up to blast Cowell.
Daltrey claims Cowell has "belittled" music by manufacturing pop stars on his series - and he’s convinced rock icons the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and his own band would never have passed the audition stage of the contest.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "We really need to break away from The X Factor and American Idol - that Simon Cowell thing. I really think the music industry will beat this slump and come back stronger.
"Groups like The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles wouldn’t have made it past the audition stage, let alone be shown on TV. That’s the joke of it.
"The music they make on the shows is absolute tripe. He’s made a good industry out of it, but it’s belittled the power of music. He wouldn’t know what the ‘X Factor’ was if it bit him on the b**locks."

GRINT’S DRESSING ROOM TO BE TURNED INTO POTTER MUSEUM ATTRACTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:27 am

RUPERT GRINT hopes the HARRY POTTER producers follow through on a plan to recreate his dressing room in a new museum space - so he’ll have somewhere to visit when he needs a burst of nostalgia.
The young Brit, who plays Ron Weasley in the Potter movies, has a number of set keepsakes - including the number from the front door of the Dursley’s home, which he stole - but he really likes the idea of his private space being replicated for the public.
He says, "They said they were going to make replicas of our dressing rooms in the Harry Potter museum in London.
"It’s kind of a weird thought but it’s such a special place, because I spent more time there than in my own home and to know it’s going to live on is really great."

KWANTEN PRAISES GAY BROTHER FOR ‘COMING OUT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:24 am

TRUE BLOOD star RYAN KWANTEN wasn’t fazed when his younger brother ‘came out’ as gay - insisting his sibling was a "changed man for the better" when he accepted his sexuality.
The Australian hunk was speaking to gay magazine The Advocate when he revealed his own brother is homosexual.
And Kwanten is adamant his brother’s secret was keeping his real personality hidden - because his "sheer beauty" appeared when he was true to himself.
He tells the publication, "My youngest brother, Lloyd, is gay. He’s a doctor, so he got every ounce of intelligence in the family.
"He was probably about 18 when he came out, and I can wholeheartedly tell you that from the day that he did, he was a changed man for the better. The sheer beauty of who he is really came through." And the actor insists he’d have no problem with pretending to enjoy same-sex liasons if TV bosses took his character Jason down that route.
He adds, "Well, there are more seasons to come, so there’s still many an opportunity. I’m sure (True Blood creator) Alan Ball’s concocting some road to take Jason down that he’s never been down before."
