BOY GEORGE LOST WEIGHT AFTER QUITTING DRUGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:34 am

BOY GEORGE lost a huge amount of weight after he gave up drugs - because he cut out sugary snacks along with illegal substances.
The former Culture Club singer vowed to tackle his drink and drug demons before he was jailed for four months in 2009 for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort at his London apartment.
The star will celebrate three years sober in 2011 and he’s adamant his new clean-living ways have helped him slim down.
He tells Britain’s The Times, "Two years ago I was four times the size I am now and I didn’t realise it. People would tell me I was fat, but I was in denial. I was happy! "It was the drugs that did it: I could go for three days without eating, then I’d eat sugary foods late at night. For the past eight months I’ve been exercising a lot." And Boy George insists his outlook on life has changed since he gave up drugs: "I’m more religious now. It’s only in the last two or three years that I’ve got me back. I wouldn’t call myself spiritual though. It’s about how you lead your life and what you do."

LYDON: ‘GRIEF IS KILLING MY FAMILY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:31 am

JOHN LYDON is still in mourning following the death of his singer step-daughter ARI UP in October (10), revealing the star’s passing is "killing" his family.
The rocker is married to the late The Slits frontwoman’s mother, Nora Foster, and the couple was devastated when Up lost her battle with cancer at the age of 48, following a course of expensive treatment.
Lydon reveals his brother Jimmy is also fighting the disease - and his family is struggling to deal with the ongoing health issues.
He tells Britain’s The Times, "We’re a little on the dismal side. It’s pain, pain, pain. Nora’s taking it (Up’s death) really bad. We had to pay for Ari’s treatment, which set us back a f**king sizeable chunk moneywise. The stress is killing us, the debris of family all around."

BROOK ENJOYING SINGLE LIFE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:31 am

British actress/model KELLY BROOK has vowed to remain single for a while following her summer (10) split from rugby hunk DANNY CIPRIANI - because she’s been in long-term relationships since she was a teenager.
The 31 year old and Cipriani broke up after two years together, and the beauty has since been linked with Glee star Matthew Morrison and another rugby player, Thom Evans.
But Brooke, who dated Jason Statham for seven years from the age of 17 and subsequently spent three years with Billy Zane, insists she is enjoying life as a single lady.
She tells Britain’s Hello! magazine, "I decided in the summer that it’s better for me to focus on myself for a bit, and do what I want to do.
"I met Jason Statham when I was 17 and went out with him for seven years. Then I went straight into a three-year relationship with Billy Zane. I was single for two months, and then I met Danny and I was with him for two years. So this is perfect.
"It’s not like I don’t want to be with people. I just needed a bit of time because I’ve never really been on my own."

JONES THOUGHT SESAME STREET WOULD BE A FLOP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:28 am

Hollywood actor JAMES EARL JONES was convinced longrunning children’s series SESAME STREET would be a big flop - because he feared the colourful puppets would be "too scary for kids".
The Star Wars legend joined pal Burt Lancaster to film pilots for the show in 1969, teaching tots how to count and recite the alphabet, but he was sure the then-groundbreaking format would fail to entice young viewers to learn with Jim Henson’s Muppets.
He tells the New York Post, "It was Burt Lancaster and I. He had the letters, and I had the numbers, or vice versa. I said to one of the producers, ‘You know, this is not gonna work. The Muppets are just too scary for kids.’" Sesame Street has since become the most widely-viewed children’s TV show in the world and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009.

NESBITT DELIGHTED WITH HAIR TRANSPLANTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:28 am

Northern Irish actor JAMES NESBITT has undergone two hair transplants over fears his balding head would hamper his career.
The Cold Feet star has long sported a receding hairline, and after years of worrying about his lack of follicles, he’s taken drastic action to improve his appearance.
Nesbitt showed off a full head of hair at a charity event in Manchester, England on Monday (29Nov10) and admits the cosmetic procedure has transformed his life.
He explains, "It’s horrible going bald. Anyone who says it isn’t is lying. Several years ago, I began losing my hair and like a lot of men it was a major concern to me. In fact it was practically an obsession.
"But, also I’m an actor so I’m in the public eye a lot and I really felt that my hair loss could affect my career prospects. So after many agonies and a great amount of thought, believe me it’s something I didn’t take lightly, I took the decision… I have had two hair transplants and I am very pleased with the results. In fact, I would go as far as to say they have changed my life."

KARDASHIANS END CREDIT CARD DEAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:25 am

KIM KARDASHIAN and her sisters have distanced themselves from a controversial credit card scheme aimed at kids following outrage over extra costs.
Kim, along with her siblings Khloe and Kourtney, lent their name to the Kardashian Prepaid MasterCard, which lets parents give their children a small amount of credit so they can keep track of their finances.
The scheme costs every user $7.95 (£5.30) a month to run and also includes a $1 (66 pence) fee to add money to the card as well as $2 (£1.30) per transaction to pay the bill automatically.
The attorney general of Connecticut launched a scathing attack on the siblings earlier this month (Nov10) for promoting the card, accusing the stars of peddling a "dangerous financial fantasy".
Lawyers for the stars’ corporation, Dash Dolls, LLC, have now issued a "notice of termination" to the companies behind the card and ended the endorsement deal, according to GossipCop.com.
The legal letter, sent on Monday afternoon (29Nov10), states the Kardashians "have worked extremely long and hard to create a positive public persona", and are recognised as "honest, ethical, and fun-loving individuals who are kind and caring to others." According to the document, they’ve decided to terminate "the agreement in its entirety, effective immediately" because the card "might violate" certain laws.

DIRECTOR MONICELLI DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:25 am

Italian director MARIO MONICELLI has died after reportedly jumping from a hospital window on Monday (29Nov10).
The 95-year-old moviemaker allegedly committed suicide at the San Giovanni hospital in Rome, where he was being treated for a prostate tumour, according to the ANSA news agency.
Monicelli’s career began in the 1930s, when he produced numerous screenplays and worked as an assistant director.
He made his directorial debut in 1949 with Toto Cerca Casa and went on to become a critically acclaimed moviemaker, most notably for 1959’s La Grande Guerra, which landed him the Leone d’Oro honour at the Venice Film Festival, and an Academy Award nomination for the Best Foreign Film.
Monicelli picked up a string of other awards throughout his career; he was handed the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany on three separate occasions and was honoured with the Golden Lion trophy for his career at the 1991 Venice Film Festival in Italy.
In recent years Monicelli scaled back his workload, but at the age of 91 he directed 2006’s The Roses of the Desert.
After learning of his death, Rome’s former Mayor Walter Veltroni paid tribute to the director, saying, "We feel profoundly and humanly hurt by his death, which we know is a loss that weighs and will continue to weigh heavily on us."

WINTER’S BONE WINS BIG AT GOTHAM AWARDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:28 am

Tough drama WINTER’S BONE is fast emerging as an Oscar favourite after landing the Best Feature title at the 2010 Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York on Monday (29Nov10).
Director Debra Granik’s acclaimed new movie stars Jennifer Lawrence as an impoverished teen who goes in search of her drug dealer father after learning he’s put the family home up as a bail bond.
The chilling tale proved to be a hit with judges at the Gotham event, which is considered by many to open the awards season, taking home the best picture award ahead of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and Annette Bening and Julianne Moore’s family drama The Kids Are All Right. Blue Valentine and Let Me In were also nominated in the category.
Winter’s Tale went on to claim the Best Ensemble Performance for its cast, which also includes John Hawkes, Dale Dickey and Lauren Sweetser, although Lawrence lost out on the Breakthrough Actor title to Daddy Longlegs star Ronald Bronstein.
Speaking about her film’s win, Granik tells the Hollywood Reporter, "The year started with getting recognition at Sundance, so that was a very intense night. It doesn’t get any easier, though, to win awards." Kevin Asch was named Breakthrough Director for Holy Rollers, a drama about an Orthodox Jew who embarks on a career as a drug pusher, while Laura Poitras’ study on the war on terrorism in The Oath was hailed as Best Documentary.
Education system documentary Waiting For Superman earned the Festival Genius Audience Award, which was determined by online voting, and Mike Ott’s Littlerock scored the prize for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You.
In addition to the competitive awards, Hilary Swank, Robert Duvall, Aronofsky and movie mogul James Schamus were each presented with a career tribute.
Honouring his Get Low co-star Duvall, Bill Murray told the crowd, "He is better than all of you… He is better than me, too." Black Swan star Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Leighton Meester and Anthony Mackie were also among the guests at the 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, hosted by Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci and held at Manhattan’s Cipriani Wall Street restaurant.
Last year’s (09) Best Feature winner, The Hurt Locker, went on to win the Oscar’s Best Picture prize.

PENN RALLIES WORLD’S DOCTORS TO HELP HAITI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

Humanitarian actor SEAN PENN has called on the world’s doctors to head to Haiti to help put a stop to a deadly outbreak of cholera sweeping across the country.
The Oscar-winning actor has been working closely with his JP Haitian Relief Organization, striving to help the devastated region in the wake of the January (10) earthquake, which left thousands of citizens homeless.
A cholera epidemic has hit the country’s homeless camps in recent weeks, and Penn is urging medics to fly to Haiti’s capital Port-Au-Prince to offer their services in the health crisis.
In a post on the charity’s website, he writes, "The current cholera epidemic in Haiti has affected over 7,000 Haitians and killed nearly 500 over the past few weeks. Dire sanitation conditions in camps throughout Port-Au-Prince make the dense population more vulnerable to this disease than ever before.
"J/P HRO NEEDS MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN THE FIGHT: We need at least 14 medics per week to support and continue our cholera-targeted medical operations. Licensed medical personnel who are flexible, resilient, resourceful, and comfortable working in an austere environment are encouraged to join our team.
"This work is first and foremost about saving lives… so we are looking for people who can manage these roles well in a high stress emergency environment. If you are a medical volunteer who can make this commitment, you WILL make a difference." Penn reveals Hurricane Tomas, which hit the country last week (ends29Nov10), has hampered aid efforts and he’s also calling for more donations from overseas to help the people of Haiti.
He adds, "Hurricane Tomas further exacerbated the challenges of accessing and accounting for cholera’s reach in rural areas, and the outlook is grim. Reports from volunteers and staff working around the clock to save lives in abysmal conditions suggest this epidemic is still far from stabilising.
"Clean water is essential. Immediate relief and emergency resources will be in demand until this disease is contained. However, we can’t effectively treat and eradicate this cholera epidemic if we don’t simultaneously improve the conditions that cause it. This deadly epidemic highlights the serious need to invest in long-term improvements for Haiti.
"Not able to volunteer? Make a contribution to J/P HRO… every dollar of your contribution goes directly to helping the people of Haiti. Start fundraising for J/P HRO (or) donate Supplies."

ROBERTS GUSHES ABOUT PORTMAN’S PERFORMANCE IN BLACK SWAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:55 am

JULIA ROBERTS has heaped praise on her pal NATALIE PORTMAN for her portrayal of a troubled ballet dancer in new drama BLACK SWAN, insisting the STAR WARS actress’ performance makes her want to "rub her weary feet".
The Pretty Woman star was among the Hollywood stars asked to write a commentary for industry publication Daily Variety on a selection of films tipped for success at next year’s (11) Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Roberts had nothing but good things to say about Portman in the Darren Aronofsky movie.
Roberts gushes, "Natalie Portman in the new film by Darren Aronofsky is a ballerina. I cannot think of anything more accurate and complimentary to say about her in this role: She is a ballerina! One is so lost in the aching beauty, the elegant moves and the quiet mania of her pursuits, she, Natalie, ceases to exist.
"It is an intense and at times brutal film to watch. There were times when I was watching through tiny cracks in my quaking fingers. But to see her in this role was worth the one night of tossing and turning…
"A performance like the one she delivers in Black Swan affirms that my professional admiration for her was well placed…
"I am simply beaming with pride for her and want only to have her over to our home to hug her, tell her all the wondrous things we think of her, rub her weary feet and make her the biggest, most delicious dinner she could ever eat!"

BONO’S SLOPPY SMOOCH KEPT DIVORCED CHER LAUGHING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:55 am

CHER struggled to stay mad at her ex-husband SONNY BONO for long even after their divorce - he planted a sloppy smooch on her lips moments after a judge made their split official.
The pair wed in 1964 and went on to become variety TV superstars, performing sketches on their hit show The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.
They had one child together, daughter Chastity, but the union broke down due to Bono’s dominance over Cher’s life and career.
Cher admits she was constantly won over by his humour and couldn’t help but laugh when their divorce was finalised in July 1975 - because Bono still insisted on one last kiss.
She tells Britain’s You magazine, "It was hero worship for me, and for most of our married life we were perfect together, and then it got not so perfect. It was like, ‘I gotta go, I’m not comfortable.’ It was still fun to work with him, though. He always made me laugh.
"The day we got our divorce, we were coming out of the courthouse and he bent me over backwards and stuck his tongue in my mouth and I just started laughing hysterically. It was impossible to stay angry at him."

WARREN G APPEALS FOR DONATIONS TO AID NATE DOGG’S RECOVERY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:52 am

Rapper WARREN G has appealed to generous fans to help hip-hop star NATE DOGG cover his medical bills as he continues to undergo physical therapy following his last stroke in 2008.
The Area Codes singer, real name Nathaniel Hale, was left partially paralysed after he was hospitalised in December 2007 and again in September 2008.
Close pal Warren G reveals he is making gradual progress but is still seeking therapy to regain the ability to walk and talk.
But the lengthy rehabilitation process has taken a toll on Hale’s finances and his friends and family have set up a website so caring fans can donate to his cause.
Warren G tells HipHollywood.com, "Nate is in a lot of therapy right now. We actually got a website coming out where people can send donations. That’s gonna help out with him, help him get back on his feet. Plus us in the industry, we’re gonna do a lot to help out with him." And Warren G has asked devotees to pray for Hale’s full recovery - because doctors are still unsure if he will ever be able to sing again.
He adds, "Everybody just gotta keep him in their prayers, cause he had two strokes and that’s real dangerous. And a lot of people don’t come back from that. Luther Vandross did it, so hopefully Nate can do it. Cause the game needs him, I need him."
