SNIPES ‘IN TRANSIT’ TO PRISON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:19 pm

WESLEY SNIPES has turned himself into authorities and is on his way to prison after a judge ordered him to surrender and begin serving his three-year sentence for tax evasion.
The Blade star, 48, has spent the past two years fighting his 2008 conviction, which found him guilty of failing to file returns or pay tax on earnings of $38 million (£25.3 million), dating back to 1999.
He lost an appeal in July (10), but U.S. District Court Judge Terrell Hodges granted him a sentence postponement pending a retrial hearing this month (Nov10).
In a Florida court last week (begs15Nov10), Snipes’ lawyer Daniel Meachum maintained jurors in the 2008 trial had been biased against the star, amid allegations three members of the jury had made up their minds about the case before the court battle began.
But Judge Hodges rejected the argument and on Friday (19Nov10) demanded Snipes report to Florida cops immediately to begin serving time behind bars.
And the Federal Bureau of Prisons website indicates Snipes surrendered to police on Monday (22Nov10) and is currently "in transit" to a detention centre.
Meachum revealed at the weekend (21Nov10) the actor was "disappointed" by the "shocking" judgement, but added, "Wesley is… staying strong and positive."

RODRIGUEZ HAVING A WHALE OF A TIME ON DEEP SEA MISSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ is battling through sea sickness on her deep sea mission with anti-whaling crusaders, but she’s determined to complete the trip as she’s convinced eco-campaigning will stop her "dying young".
The Avatar actress is currently onboard a boat as part of marine conservationist Paul Watson’s Operation No Compromises campaign, which aims to stamp out the killing of whales.
Rodriguez has been learning the ropes and training to drive small motorised vessels, which will be used to get close to the Japanese whaling boats.
The star admits she spent several days feeling sick after they set sail last week (ends21Nov10), but she is determined to see through her mission because she’s convinced the anti-whaling campaign will help save her from the pressures of Hollywood.
She tells News.com.au, "I got to drive a tender yesterday which is the little motor ships that they drive to get in close proximity of the Shonan Maru (Japanese whaling ship).
"I will dedicate a lot of my sweat and my time and devote a big percentage of it to this, to the preservation of life because I can’t sit back and not do anything knowing how wrong it is, not to care about tomorrow. If anything it’s not a selfless act, I’m getting as much as I’m giving out of this.
"I really believe in balance. I really think that’s the only way I’ll stop myself from dying young, from being a burnt out star. That’s how stars die young, you put too much energy and effort into one thing."

ANDERSON FILING POLICE COMPLAINT AGAINST SHEEN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:37 pm

An actress/model who was with CHARLIE SHEEN the night he reportedly trashed a New York hotel room will file a criminal complaint against the star on Monday (22Nov10) accusing him of battery and false imprisonment.
The Two and a Half Men actor hit headlines last month (Oct10) over reports he ransacked his suite during a night of passion with Capri Anderson, who spoke publicly about the incident for the first time in a U.S. TV interview on Monday.
Appearing on Good Morning America, the 22 year old became tearful as she described the events that led her to lock herself in a bathroom in Sheen’s hotel room, which was found trashed when police arrived at the scene.
Anderson accused the actor of screaming insults at her, throwing a lamp, grabbing her by the throat and threatening her with a shiny object she suspects was a knife.
She said: "I saw him pick something up. I’m not sure if it was an envelope opener, maybe - a knife. I wasn’t at that point paying so much attention as much as I was trying to (get to the bathroom)." Anderson’s attorney also confirmed his client plans to file a criminal report with New York police, alleging battery and false imprisonment.
He added: "She (is) going (to) police today. She’s filing a police report against Mr. Sheen today - a criminal report. She’s going to the NYPD (New York Police Department) to report the action." During the interview, Anderson also denied allegations she was to be paid for sex, insisting she had only been hired to escort Sheen to dinner earlier that night.
And she claims Sheen has been in touch since the alleged incident to offer her a financial settlement: "He offered me a sum of money for my silence… He apologised for his behaviour and the entire evening." Sheen, who was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after the incident, has denied the allegations, and his lawyers have vowed to "vigorously" defend any legal action resulting from Anderson’s claims.

SIMPSON’S TEARS OVER PROPOSAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

JESSICA SIMPSON burst into tears when her fiance ERIC JOHNSON popped the question earlier this month (Nov10) because his marriage proposal came as "a total surprise".
The sports star asked for Simpson’s hand in marriage on 11 November (10) after six months of dating, and the singer admits she had no idea what her partner was planning.
Simpson reveals Johnson requested her parents’ permission before asking her to marry him, and she was so overwhelmed by the romantic gesture she couldn’t stop crying.
She tells America’s The Early Show, "(He) had a plan a long time ago. He had a (talk) with my mom and dad about it… He was a gentleman about it.
"(It was) a total surprise. I had to sit on his knee. I was shocked. To really get what was happening… I said ‘Yes’ and we both definitely were teary-eyed. I didn’t even try the ring on until five minutes in. I just sat there and cried with him." Simpson was delighted with Johnson’s decision to buy her a ruby ring instead of a traditional diamond, because the gem symbolises her birth stone, and she also wants their wedding ceremony to be "different" because she has already walked down the aisle once before.
She adds, "I’ve already done the traditional thing. I wanted to do something that was different." Simpson was previously wed to Nick Lachey. They divorced in 2006 after three years of marriage.

SLASH: ‘JACKSON WAS THE EMBODIMENT OF MUSIC’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

Rocker SLASH has heaped praise on MICHAEL JACKSON, branding the late King of Pop "the embodiment of music".
The guitarist teamed up with Jackson throughout the 1990s and contributed to many tracks on the Thriller legend’s 1991 album Dangerous.
And he has only fond memories of working with the star, who passed away last year (09).
Slash tells Britain’s The Observer, "Working with Michael Jackson was great, He wasn’t a dictator or one of those idiosyncratic a**holes that feel like they can get away with being an a**hole because they’re so great.
"Michael was the embodiment of music."

LAUGHING GRINT DISRUPTED POTTER SHOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:34 pm

RUPERT GRINT was ordered to leave the set of the new HARRY POTTER movie - because his laughter at seeing co-stars DANIEL RADCLIFFE and EMMA WATSON kiss was disrupting the shoot.
Watson and Radcliffe pucker up for a scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One - but Grint could not contain his amusement as he watched his pals lock lips.
Radcliffe explains, "You’ve seen the film, it’s a pretty violent kiss. I was trying to keep up! Rupert was actually laughing so much off camera he was asked to leave the set because we were looking at him with his eyes watering as he was trying not to laugh at us.
"It was very weird but we went for it and quite enjoyed it. Many men around the world would have killed to be in that position!"

BURKE PLEASED X FACTOR FAME CAME LATE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

ALEXANDRA BURKE is pleased she was booted off SIMON COWELL’s THE X FACTOR in 2005 - because she wasn’t "mature or responsible enough" to handle the inevitable instant fame.
The Bad Boys hitmaker auditioned for the show five years ago, but was axed during the early stages of the competition.
She went on to win the contest in 2008 - and Burke admits it was a blessing she didn’t triumph in the show the first time she tried out.
Burke tells Britain’s You magazine, "I couldn’t have coped then with the pressures heaped on me now, because I wasn’t nearly mature or responsible enough to deal with the punishing work regime or the media interest."

WESTLIFE HIDING PARTY ANIMAL SECRET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

Irish band WESTLIFE love their clean-cut image - because they are secret party animals who can "lead a double life" away from the paparazzi.
The four-piece has steered clear of controversy since finding fame in the 1990s, and they are rarely tailed by photographers as a result.
Singer Kian Egan admits this works in the band’s favour - because they are never caught on boozy nights out.
He tells Britain’s Fabulous magazine, "We can put the drink away, b**ody sure we can. Come on, we’re Irishmen! We’ve been at parties where we’ve got away with murder because everyone assumes we’re boring. The paparazzi never hang around for us, so we can almost lead a double life.
"Mark and I are probably the worst. We’ve done 40 nights on the trot before and I guess some people would be called alcoholics for that." But despite their hard partying, the group takes a strictly anti-drugs policy. Egan adds, "We’ve never gone down that road. I’ve never been offered hard drugs and if we’ve been at parties where it’s going on we’ve left immediately. I don’t want to be around it. And anyone who works with us knows that if there’s even a whiff of drugs they’ll be sacked."

TAKE THAT MARK CHART-TOPPING ALBUM WITH SHOTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:31 pm

British boyband TAKE THAT celebrated topping the U.K. chart with their record-breaking album PROGRESS on Sunday (21Nov10) by enjoying a boozy night out.
The group shifted 522,000 copies of the album, the biggest first-week opening since Be Here Now by Oasis in 1997, and even outsold the rest of the top ten put together.
And frontman Gary Barlow led the celebrations by "taking shots round the room" for all his bandmates except teetotal Robbie Williams - and he ended up nursing a sore head the next day.
Speaking on Britain’s Radio 1 on Monday (22Nov10), Barlow explained, "We had a little celebration last night. We had a group hug last night. It doesn’t happen very often to me but I started taking the shots round the room and stuff like that. I was going, ‘Rob, you’re not going to drink them are you?’ I’m a cheap date!" Bandmate Mark Owen adds, "You turned up saying you were going to take it easy and as the night went on you went the other way!"

PARADIS BULLIED BY SCHOOLMATES AFTER FINDING FAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

VANESSA PARADIS struggled to fit in after she found fame as a teenager and was bullied by girls at her school who "hated" her music.
The French singer/actress released her debut song Joe Le Taxi in 1988 at the age of 14, and it became a worldwide success, topping the charts in her native country for 11 weeks.
But Paradis’ school peers reacted badly to her sudden rise to stardom.
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, "It was the worst time of my life, in a way. I recorded Joe Le Taxi and then when I went back to school after summer vacation suddenly I was a celebrity and my face was on the cover of every magazine.
"Many people loved the song and were great fans, but there were many people who hated it and hated me. It was a torture for me. Some girls spat at me on the street. I never understood that kind of hatred."

JAY-Z HAD ‘FUN’ DEALING DRUGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

JAY-Z has fond memories of his years as a drug dealer on the streets of New York - insisting he had "fun" selling crack cocaine.
The 99 Problems hitmaker started peddling illegal substances at the age of 12 as he grew up in a tough area of Brooklyn, but finally turned his back on the trade when his rap career took off.
And he is adamant supplying crack on street corners was "usually" enjoyable, comparing it to socialising with colleagues around an office watercooler.
In his memoirs, Jay-Z Decoded, the rapper writes, "It may sound strange, but it was usually a fun way to spend time. I got to hang out on the block with my crew, talking, cracking jokes. You know how people in office jobs talk at the watercooler? This job was almost all watercooler.
"But when you weren’t having fun, it was hell. I got out just in time. Some of my best friends weren’t so lucky."

FEEHILY: ‘SUICIDE IS NOT THE ANSWER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

MARK FEEHILY struggled to recover from the depression he suffered at the height of his fame with WESTLIFE, but insists he’s "living proof" why suicide is never the answer.
The Irish singer shot to fame with the boy band in 1998 but fell into a downward spiral and became "very unbalanced" after his bandmates teased him about his weight.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail Weekend magazine, "Back then, all I wanted to do was go home for a long, long time. It wasn’t all bad, but there were a lot of feelings that started to creep into my mind. I didn’t want to be there getting picked apart by everyone.
"My weight’s always fluctuated from chubby to above normal and I didn’t like my bad points being pointed out. I didn’t think anyone had the right. There was a time I was very unbalanced." The pop star is relieved he didn’t take any drastic measures during his low points, because his life eventually improved - and he’s now thrown himself into charity work to help others who are suffering.
He adds: "I’m involved in charities in Ireland now. One is called Aware and it is based around suicide, particularly in young kids. It’s something that’s very close to my heart. I’m not saying I ever planned anything, but you go to quite a deep, dark place and there’s no one to turn to.
"I’m lucky. I’m living proof it’s better to not choose (suicide), and fight your way through it. But it wasn’t easy. I buried my feelings of unhappiness deep inside myself."

ELSON: ‘MEG WHITE IS LIKE FAMILY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

KAREN ELSON was delighted to have her partner JACK WHITE’s ex-wife MEG in her wedding party - because she insists the drummer is like a member of her family.
The British model-turned-singer married the White Stripes frontman in Brazil in 2005 and they invited the rocker’s bandmate and former wife to be the maid of honour.
But Elson insists the ceremony was far from awkward - because Meg has become a dear friend over the years.
She tells Britain’s Sunday Telegraph Stella magazine, "I love Meg, she’s one of my very closest friends. She’s brilliant, I love her. Her husband plays in my band. I see Meg all the time. I probably see Meg more than I see Jack at the moment. It’s family."

AIKEN ADDRESSES GAY BULLYING AT CAPITOL HILL HEARING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Former AMERICAN IDOL star CLAY AIKEN appeared at a hearing in Washington, D.C. last week (ends(21Nov10) to address the issue of gay bullying and relive his own terrifying experiences at school.
The openly homosexual singer was a speaker at the Capitol Hill briefing last Thursday (18Nov10) organised by officials at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to draw public attention to the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act.
The two pieces of legislation would require school officials across America to address bullying and harassment aimed at gay students, and Aiken made an impassioned plea for lawmakers to pass the bills.
And he used his own childhood experiences of bullying as an example of why homosexual youngsters need safeguarding.
He told the hearing, "Like many kids now in middle schools and high schools, I was bullied. I was picked on, I was called gay, I was called f**, I was called sissy, you name it. Fortunately, I was able to overcome it and live through it because of a number of friends who were supportive of me…
"We need federal leadership from Congress to encourage all states and districts and each and every school to create safe learning environments where all students can learn and succeed."

LYDON DELAYS PIL SESSIONS AFTER UP’S DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:25 pm

JOHN LYDON has postponed recording sessions with PUBLIC IMAGE LTD following the death of his singer step-daughter, ARI UP.
The rocker was due to begin working on new material but has decided instead to remain at home with his wife, Nora Foster, as she mourns Up’s passing. The Slits frontwoman lost her battle with cancer at the age of 48 last month (Oct10).
He explains, "We were going to go into the studio but in light of my step-daughter’s death, I really can’t be doing that at the moment.
"I don’t want to leave my wife alone for any length of time right now. So the music side has had to be held." And the former Sex Pistols star insists his bandmates have all supported his decision to postpone the project.
Lydon adds: "They all knew her anyway. So it’s a good thing that we’ve taken a breather. It would have been impossible and would have affected the outcome of the record."

T.I. BLAMES DRUG PROBLEMS ON DENTAL WORK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Rapper T.I. has revealed his drug problems started when he was prescribed painkillers after dental surgery earlier this year (10), and he enrolled in therapy sessions after his September (10) arrest to kick his addiction.
The hip-hop star was jailed earlier this month (Nov10) for parole violation after he and his wife Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle were detained by police officers who allegedly found drugs during a search of the couple’s car.
T.I. has now opened up about his demons in a new interview with Vibe magazine, which was conducted prior to his incarceration.
The rapper admits he became addicted to prescription pills following a series of painful dental procedures, but vowed to kick his bad habits for good after his arrest.
He says, "After the pain went away, I kept taking it. I had like five, six prescriptions. So, I had, like 80 pills. Everybody else might drink or smoke a blunt (joint); I took a pain pill… If you rationalise putting yourself in harm’s way, risking your well-being, your health, your freedom, your family’s well-being and livelihood in order to be high, that’s the rationale of an addict." T.I.’s wife recently pleaded not guilty to a charge of drug possession and is due to go on trial next year (11), but the star is adamant his partner has not suffered similar drug problems.
He adds, "She went with me to some meetings and counselling. She ain’t got no problems. Her thing is she smokes. Smoking weed is different than taking pain pills. You can smoke weed today and not smoke another blunt for another three months."

WENDT MISTAKEN FOR GOODMAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Former CHEERS star GEORGE WENDT is rarely recognised by fans of the hit TV show any more because he no longer looks like his character - insisting he is more often mistaken for JOHN GOODMAN instead.
Wendt played Norm Peterson in all 275 episodes of Cheers between 1982 and 1993, later reviving the role in spin-off show Frasier.
He has more recently been seen on Broadway and is currently playing Santa in the stage version of Elf, and Wendt reveals fans who see him on the street rarely remember his stint in Cheers.
He tells the New York Post, "It’s funny, but when I walk the streets in New York, which I love and where I have a corporate apartment, people scream out to me: ‘Hey… Norm…’ But, of course, that was mostly back when I looked more like Norm. My younger brother resembles the character better than I do these days.
"Sometimes fans yell out, ‘Hey… John…’ They think I’m John Goodman, Roseanne’s TV husband."
