AGUILERA ANXIOUS OVER ACTING ‘HORROR STORIES’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:48 pm

CHRISTINA AGUILERA was wary of agreeing to her debut movie role in BURLESQUE - because she has heard so many "horror stories" about pop stars making unsuccessful crossovers to the big screen.
The Dirrty hitmaker stars alongside Cher and Kristen Bell in the new film, playing a wannabe dancer struggling to make it in Los Angeles.
Aguilera admits she has wanted to act for a long time, but was put off by seeing her pop star peers - including Britney Spears in Crossroads and Mariah Carey in Glitter - flop at the box office.
She tells the Los Angeles Times, "You’ve heard a lot of horror stories. And a lot of people don’t make successful crossovers. That’s why I think I also just really took my time in choosing the right thing and not just saying, ‘Hey, let me try this just to do it and say I did it’. If you don’t, I think the work would suffer and then you’d get written off as just another one trying to do something they can’t do."

PRODIGY SONG NAMED MOST CONTROVERSIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

A track by British dance act THE PRODIGY has been voted the most controversial song of all time.
The band’s 1997 offering, Smack My B**ch Up, was banned by the U.K.’s BBC network - the sex and drugs-filled video was not shown and the track was not played in chart rundowns.
It has now topped a poll by the Performing Right Society to find the most outrageous tune, ahead of the Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen at number two and Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood at three.
The top five is rounded out by Eminem’s Kim and Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine.

ROCKERS VOLBEAT AXE U.K. GIGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

Danish rockers VOLBEAT have cancelled a string of concerts on their upcoming U.K. tour after frontman MICHAEL POULSEN was taken ill.
The group was set to hit the road in Britain later this month (Nov10), but they’ve been forced to scrap all shows until 1 December (10) after doctors ordered Poulsen not to "fly or travel" until he had recovered from a mystery "medical condition".
A statement from the band reads, "After a strenuous sold-out tour across mainland Europe and Scandinavia, Volbeat are regrettably forced to cancel their first week of scheduled U.K. shows. The band did personally not want to cancel this tour, but unfortunately Michael Poulsen was ordered by doctors not to fly or travel until his medical condition is stabilised to their satisfaction.
"At this moment Michael Poulsen is under doctor’s supervision and a full recovery is expected within time to be able to pursue engagements from December 1 and onwards." Last year (09) the band was forced to axe a show in the Netherlands when Poulsen collapsed onstage midway through the gig, due to a bout of influenza.

GALLAGHER BEGINS WORK ON SOLO DEBUT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

NOEL GALLAGHER is moving on from OASIS by starting work on his first solo album, recruiting THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS star MILES KANE as a collaborator for his debut.
Gallagher stunned fans when he quit Oasis in August last year (09) following a fight with his singer brother Liam.
The band subsequently split and Liam recently returned to the music scene with a new group, Beady Eye, while Noel has now begun to record new material.
Kane reveals he played guitar on one of Noel’s new tracks as a favour after the rocker helped out by providing vocals for his own solo offering.
He says, "I was mixing the record and I was going to do these harmonies to give it a boost - it was a bit flat. I text him (Gallagher) saying, ‘I need some icing on this tune’ and he said, ‘Icing is what I do very well.’ "It’s only a really subtle thing on the middle eight and the chorus of this song called My Fantasy. It’s nice, I’m very honoured that he did it. It’s a nice little touch.
"(In return) I play guitar on one of his songs for his album. I was only in there (in the studio) for a couple of hours. I did my thing. That was in return for me going on his one."

But Ke$ha has now called time on their romance, as she’s grown tired of the drummer’s change in lifestyle.

PARTON ‘HURT’ BY 9 TO 5 REVIEWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

DOLLY PARTON was extremely "hurt" by the negative reviews of 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL, but the singer is adamant she was able to "learn" from the harsh criticism and she’s pleased the show is "still going".
The stage production, based on Parton’s hit 1980 movie Nine to Five, opened on Broadway in early 2009, but was slated by New York theatre critics.
Ben Brantley of the New York Times described the show as an "overinflated whoopee cushion" and a "gaudy, empty musical", while Variety’s David Rooney called it "an uneven cut-and-paste job".
Despite being nominated for four 2009 Tony Awards, 9 To 5: The Musical closed early after just 148 performances and headed out on a national tour of the U.S. instead.
Parton admits she was stung by the negative reaction to the show, but she’s glad the musical is still going.
She tells Larry King, "Well, it always hurts you when you don’t get… the good reviews but you try to learn from it. I learned years ago if you have to fall under that and just blame the critics or the person criticising you, you’re never going to learn and grow from that.
"So I’ve learned through the years to look and see what they say and to see if there is truth in it. And usually there is some truth. Sometimes they overdo it. They don’t have to be so honest. But anyway, I just try to learn from that and apply, you know, what I’ve learned from it to whatever the next project may be. Of course we want everything to be a hit but that’s just not how it goes, is it?" She adds, "I’m just glad to… have it still going. I don’t know how long it will go… It just keeps on going."

BEYONCE TEARS UP IN NEW DOCUMENTARY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:37 pm

Singing superstar BEYONCE showed the lonelier side of fame while filming her new documentary, breaking down in tears as she asked: "Why did God give me this life?" The former Destiny’s Child star turned the camera on herself during her last global trek, the I Am… Tour, to document her time on the road.
In the footage, the emotional pop star can be seen tearing up as she admits she sometimes feels "overwhelmed" by her success.
Speaking in I Am… World Tour, she says, "Why did God give me this life?… Sometimes it’s overwhelming. Why did God give me my talent, my gift, my family? But I know you’re not supposed to question God. Only God knows. And I don’t take it for granted." The Crazy In Love hitmaker, who produced and directed the film, debated whether to include the emotional scenes but decided she wanted to show fans the real Beyonce.
She adds, "I wanted the fans to be able to see what I see. It’s a lot of things I reveal about myself that I could never give to a director.
"There was one moment I was in China and I was in this huge suite and I looked out the window and there were just thousands of people walking and I couldn’t believe my life. I guess I was a bit lonely and I wanted to talk to someone so I opened up my computer and I just talked."

PARTON’S FEARS FOR CYRUS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:37 pm

DOLLY PARTON is not a fan of MILEY CYRUS’ raunchy new image and fears the young star is "surrounded" by advisers who are steering her career in the wrong direction.
The country legend has known Cyrus since she was a baby and has previously labelled the 18-year-old singer/actress her "honorary goddaughter".
The Hannah Montana star has shed her clean-cut image in recent months, wearing increasingly saucy outfits and shocking fans with provocative stage performances.
Parton is adamant she hasn’t "encouraged" the youngster to flash the flesh, and fears Cyrus may be getting bad advice from her managers.
She tells Larry King, "Hopefully she didn’t get that from me because I certainly never encouraged her to do any of that… I think she’s just in a cross - she’s just kind of in a crosswinds trying to overcome the Hannah Montana little girl, and trying to become a young woman… I don’t know if she’s surrounded by people that are helping (her to) not make the wise decisions…" And Parton is worried showbusiness is becoming increasing tough on young girls like Cyrus, adding: "I think this day and time life is hard for young people, certainly young girls… The world is just… you just can’t flaunt enough. You can’t just do enough. You can’t just talk trashy enough or dress trashy enough. It seems to be like if you don’t do that you’re not in the in crowd. So I think that there’s a lot of pressure just on young people in general and I think they put a lot of pressure on themselves…" But the 9 To 5 hitmaker remains hopeful the former Disney star will grow out of her rebellious ways: "I’m hoping that Miley is going to be just fine. I know she’s very gifted and I love her dearly and if she ever needs me I’ll do everything I can to help her in any way that I can. So I think we should just let her grow up."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:34 pm

Original BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER KRISTY SWANSON wants a bite of the franchise’s next revamp - despite creator JOSS WHEDON publicly denouncing the project as "a sad, sad reflection on our times".
The actress is best known for playing Buffy Summers in Whedon’s 1992 film which spawned the hit TV franchise, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role.
Whedon has blasted plans for a new big screen installment, criticising studio bosses for failing to come up with fresh ideas.

She tells Entertainment Weekly, "Let Buffy live; why not? If they wanted me to be a part of it, I think that would be fantastic and that it would be a blast.
"There are die-hard Joss Whedon fans who absolutely love him to death, and rightly so. He’s a brilliant man, no doubt. I love everything Buffy. I don’t care who’s doing it."

ARQUETTE’S TV BASKETBALL GAME TREAT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:31 pm

DAVID ARQUETTE was treated to a one-on-one game with his basketball hero on U.S. TV on Tuesday night (23Nov10) - but lost a shoot-out with the super-size player.
The Scream star was a guest on Lopez Tonight and host George Lopez announced a challenge to "cheer up" the actor following his recent split from wife Courteney Cox.
Lopez welcomed four actors dressed as Oompa Loompas onto the TV set and they presented Arquette with a cake, which the star guest happily thrust his face into.
Dripping with gooey sponge, Arquette was stunned to learn Lopez had also invited former NBA Los Angeles Lakers star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to play a quick basketball game with the actor.
Arquette was thrilled with the challenge - but he failed to net a hoop past Abdul-Jabbar, who stands at seven foot, two inches (2.18 metres) tall.
Lopez then completed a trio of attempts to cheer up Arquette by welcoming the Lakers’ cheerleaders, who perched on a Santa’s sleigh with the star.
After the stunts, Arquette declared: "I’m very happy!"

NICKELODEON BOSSES HAD ‘NO IDEA’ ABOUT ICARLY SMOKING SHIRT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:31 pm

NICKELODEON bosses have distanced themselves from controversy after a character on teen show ICARLY wore a smoking-related shirt, insisting they had "no idea" what the design represented.
Bambu Apparel spokesperson Sarah Saiger was stunned when she spotted actor Jerry Trainor in a shirt from the clothing brand, which also produces cigarette rolling papers.
Saiger tells the New York Post’s Page Six gossip column, "It was unbelievable to me that they (Nickelodeon) didn’t do any due diligence (sic). I always made sure not to put advertisements for my clothes near kids. I don’t want kids buying my shirts. My nieces and nephews are not allowed to wear the clothing. They can look at the artwork, but they do not wear the clothing." Bosses at the children’s network insist the costume choice was not deliberate.
A representative tells Page Six, "The shirt was randomly selected from a national department store by a customer, and we had no idea what the design represented."
