WASHINGTON TACKLED DEATH-DEFYING UNSTOPPABLE STUNTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

DENZEL WASHINGTON took his life in his hands to film new action movie UNSTOPPABLE - the actor insisted on filming his own death-defying stunts.
The Training Day star appears alongside Chris Pine in the story of a runaway train, which the two men attempt to stop, and Washington is seen clambering on top of the fast-travelling carriage.
The 55 year old admits his decision to tackle the dangerous move is "the stupidest thing" he’s ever done for a film, but he wanted the shoot to look realistic for audiences.
He tells BBC Radio 1, "Being an idiot is what compelled me to do my own stunts.
"I think the audiences know when it’s green screen and when it’s fake and they can relax but a part of the stress that you feel… is knowing that myself and Chris Pine, we’re actually the one’s up there. It’s like, ‘Wow, it’s actually dangerous!’ I think that helps create some of the tension.
"Every time you see me on top of a train, that’s really me. We had a stunt man did (sic) most of it but I had to do it as well. A train going 50 miles per hour and I’m running across the top of the train. It was ridiculous, it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life."

SIMPSON DIDN’T EXPECT A PROPOSAL ‘SO SOON’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

JESSICA SIMPSON was completely blind-sided by her fiance’s proposal because she did not expect to become engaged "so soon".
The singer’s boyfriend Eric Johnson popped the question on 11 November (10) after just six months of dating.
Simpson admits they had talked about marriage in the future, but she never thought her partner would propose after such a short romance.
She tells Access Hollywood, "I was so shocked in that moment that I had to sit down on his knee and catch my cool. I did not expect it at all… I just didn’t expect that moment to happen so soon. We had talked about getting married, but I didn’t know that he’d already gone to my dad three weeks before that and to my mom. Everybody kept it a big secret in the Simpson family, which is not a normal thing." And Simpson has been so caught up in the engagement, she has yet to consider any plans for her big day.
She adds, "We just really haven’t talked much about it. We’ve really just been happy being engaged, so I don’t even know what kind of wedding I’ll have. We’ve both been married before, so you never know what can happen." The 30-year-old star was previously married to Nick Lachey.

BRAGG ANNOYED BY ONLINE CRITICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:31 pm

British folk rocker BILLY BRAGG is often subjected to online heckling - because fans refuse to believe the star logs in to social networking websites to chat to them.
The singer has assured devotees that updates made to his accounts on Twitter.com and Facebook.com are genuine, admitting he uses the internet to "spread the word" about his schedule since he’s so rarely in the spotlight.
He tells Britain’s Q magazine, "Someone recently wrote on my Facebook wall condemning other users for talking to me ‘as if this is the real Billy Bragg’ responding to their comments. This post was followed by another who argued: ‘I very much doubt Billy has time to run a Facebook account and tour, deal with charity, etc.’ "I can assure you that it was me, sitting alone in my hotel room in Glasgow, tapping out responses on my laptop. Is that sad? I don’t think so. For someone like myself, no longer played on radio nor covered by the weekly rock press, Facebook and Twitter offer an easy way to spread the word about my activities." But Bragg admits he’s learned to shrug off any negative comments aimed at him, adding: "While it is true that I do get my fair share of unsolicited invective via the internet, I accept that if you let people place you on a pedestal you have to put up with pigeons s**ting on your head."

WELLER SLAMS FACEBOOK AS ‘OPIUM OF THE MASSES’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

Rocker PAUL WELLER will not be joining Facebook any time soon - he’s blasted social networking websites as "distracting" and a waste of time.
The former The Jam frontman’s representatives have set up an account on the popular site to keep fans up-to-date with his album releases and tour dates.
But the singer/songwriter is adamant he avoids using networking websites himself, because he’s convinced they have a negative effect on society.
Weller takes aim at Facebook in a song on his latest album Wake Up The Nation, and he tells NME, "I do think that technology is good for certain things, but I do also think that the a**e end of that is there’s just a lot of time wasted, staring at a screen, talking to cyber-friends. And I don’t get that, really.
"I think it’s a way of distracting people from what’s really happening. I do think there’s an element of that. I think it’s the new opium of the masses, personally. All the things that I don’t like about that… I would have thought that would be enough for any new generation to kick against."

PARTON ‘PROUD’ OF DOLLYWOOD AWARD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

DOLLY PARTON is "proud" and "honoured" after Dollywood was named the world’s best-run theme park.
The singer, who set up the attraction in Tennessee in 1986, picked up the prestigious Applause Award at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo 2010 in Orlando, Florida last week (beg15Nov10).
Parton admits she’s thrilled with the honour and credits staff at the facility with helping maintain the high standards.
She tells Larry King, "It’s really kind of like winning an Oscar in showbusiness. But it really says that you are the number one park in the world. Not just the United States but all over the world…
"We have a wonderful park in Dollywood, wonderful people there that keep it running. They vote on it for cleanliness, beauty, the shows and everything that just kind of says this is a wonderful place for families and people to go. So we’re very proud and very honoured down here… It was a wonderful thing.
"I have surrounded myself with very smart people. I certainly wouldn’t claim to be able to do all that myself. But at least I’m smart enough to know I’ve got to get good, smart people to help with all of those things. And I have wonderful partners and wonderful people that help with all of that and make me look good."

LEMMY ‘MET HIS MATCH’ IN NOLAN SISTERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

MOTORHEAD star LEMMY has laughed off rumours he once enjoyed a fling with a member of THE NOLANS - insisting the singing siblings turned down his efforts to bed them.
The rocker was "in awe" of the all-female band after meeting them backstage at U.K. TV show Top of the Pops, and their encounter sparked gossip of an affair.
But Lemmy has confessed he never got to fulfil his wish of romancing one of the sisters - because they were too streetwise to fall for his charms.
He tells Britain’s Q magazine, "No (there was no fling), but it wasn’t for the want of trying. They are awesome chicks. People forget those girls were onstage with Frank Sinatra at the age of 12. They’ve seen most things twice.
"We were on Top of the Pops at the same time as them and our manager was trying to chat up Linda: the one with the bouffant hair and the nice boobs. He dropped his lighter and bent down to pick it up. Linda said to him, ‘While you’re down there, why don’t you give me a…’ It blew him away. We didn’t expect that from a Nolan sister. None of us did.
"We were supposed to be the smelliest, loudest motherf**kers in the building but we more than met our match. We were in awe. You couldn’t mess with the Nolan sisters."

PARTON ADMIRES ‘SMART, BEAUTIFUL, INCREDIBLE’ SWIFT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

DOLLY PARTON is full of praise for country music’s bright new star TAYLOR SWIFT, branding the young singer "smart, beautiful" and "incredible" and insisting she has a 40-year career ahead of her.
Swift has ruled the charts and dominated award shows over the last few years - in 2009 she became the youngest artist ever to win the Country Music Association Award for Entertainer Of The Year, she took home four Grammys at this year’s (10) ceremony, and was recently honoured as Songwriter of the Year at the BMI Country Awards.
And Parton is quick to compliment Swift and hails her as a "great role model" for kids.
She tells Larry King, "I think she is a smart, beautiful girl. I think she’s making all the right moves. She’s got a good head on her shoulders. She’s surrounded with wonderful people. Her songs are great. She keeps herself anchored. She knows who she is and she’s living and standing by that. And I just admire her. I think she is just incredible and a great role model for young people right now…" But Parton dismisses fears the 20 year old’s success will soon come to an end, insisting Swift has the potential to become a real music legend.
She adds, "When they talk about American Idol, they say, ‘Well, you know, they show up and then they’re gone before it happens’. And there is a danger in all of that.
"But with Taylor, I honestly think that she’s got the qualities that could last a long time… And I don’t know if there’s such a thing as having too much too soon. I mean if it’s your time, it’s your time… So I’m hoping that she’s just having a really, really hot streak that’s just going to last. I hope her 15 minutes of fame lasts for 40 years, and it very well might."

WEBBIE’S AXED SHOW SPARKS VIOLENCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Rapper WEBBIE sparked riots after he failed to show up for his planned gig in Texas on Saturday (20Nov10) - one fan was arrested and two police officers were injured during the chaos.
The hip-hop star was scheduled to take to the stage at The Ranch venue in Waco but he never arrived for the show, leaving fans fuming.
The city’s entire police department was called to control the crowds after reports of fighting and gunfire, and the incident resulted in one officer sustaining a broken rib and another spraining his wrist.
A 20-year-old man was charged with assault and resisting arrest following the night’s drama, according to AllHipHop.com.
Reports suggest Webbie - real name Webster Gradney Jr. - had suffered a seizure prior to the concert and has since offered to return to Waco at a later date to put on another concert.
It’s not the first time Webbie’s gigs have been linked to trouble - in 2008, a woman was left in a critical condition after being fatally shot in the head as she left the rapper’s gig in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The same year (08), a man was admitted to hospital suffering from stab wounds sustained at a Webbie show in Florida.

BONO CONFIDENT SPIDER-MAN MUSICAL WILL SUCCEED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

U2 frontman BONO is convinced his SPIDER-MAN musical will be a success despite months of delays and safety fears, but he is prepared for failure if audiences don’t warm to the blockbuster stage show.
The Irish singer wrote the music for Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark with his bandmate The Edge, but the production’s opening has been pushed back several times amid rising costs and rigorous safety checks for the show’s aerial stunts.
Bono admits the last few months have been a testing time for bosses behind the multi-million dollar spectacular, but he hopes the show will win over the public when it is finally launched in January (11).
He tells the Associated Press, "Is there jeopardy? Yes. Because it’s technically very difficult. It has never been achieved before… The expense of it? A lot of it was the delays… If the rabbit comes out of the hat, we will be, I think, rewarded. If the rabbit comes out of the leg of the trousers, we could be figures of fun for a few days. Or worse. Maybe looking for a job…
"I think even though it looks like there’s a lot of ill will against us, I think it’ll turn around. If it’s just spectacle, we will have failed. But if you can be moved, and if you believe these characters, and if Spider-Man outlives his fabulism and you really buy into the myth, it’s a great American story."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

British rockers THE FALL were targeted by protesters at their London show on Tuesday night (23Nov10) over their plans to play in Israel next year (11).
The post-punk band took to the stage at the Electric Ballroom but their performance was marred by a group of activists who gathered outside the venue waving banners and placards.
The protesters are angry about the band’s decision to schedule a concert in Tel Aviv in January (11) and they are urging the group to scrap the show and boycott the country over unrest in the Gaza Strip.
The band’s gig went ahead uninterrupted, according to NME.com.

JONAS AND GREENE’S AIRPORT DRAMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

JOE JONAS and his girlfriend ASHLEY GREENE were stopped by security teams at an airport in Abu Dhabi after the pop star accidentally packed a set of knives in his carry-on luggage.
The new couple was booked on a flight from the United Arab Emirates state to New York and after finding they had too many bags to check in, they opted to take another with them on the plane.
But the Jonas Brothers star forgot he had put a set of cheese knives in the bag, and they were soon stopped by airport officials.
Greene feared they would be arrested for attempting to take blades on a plane, but the guards eventually let them go.
She tells U.S. TV host George Lopez, "We had too many bags to check so we took one as a carry-on instead of checking it through security. We were going from the Middle East to New York so (there was) tons of security, tons of screening.
"We got through one actually, surprisingly enough, but at the second one they all of a sudden stopped and looked at us with these really stern faces and said, ‘What is in your bag?’ "I look at him and get flashbacks of this knife set we got; they were like cheese cutting knives. I look at Joe and said (sic), ‘Did you leave those knives in your bag?’. He said, ‘Whoopsies!’ I said, ‘Whoopsies doesn’t cut it! We’re going to get arrested!’" Greene jokingly blamed the incident on Jonas, because the keen cook had bought the knives as a gift, adding, "This is all his fault!"

DORFF FOND OF CO-STAR FANNING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:21 pm

STEPHEN DORFF grew so fond of ELLE FANNING on the set of their new movie SOMEWHERE, he collected the child star from school and even attended one of her volleyball games.
The pair teamed up to play father and daughter in the Sofia Coppola-directed drama and 12-year-old Fanning admits Dorff’s paternal portrayal spilled over into real-life.
She tells America’s Vanity Fair magazine, "We had a big rehearsal period. Stephen picked me up from my school, and he came to one of my volleyball games. He had these long (hair) extensions in for a movie he was doing, so all my friends were looking at this guy, like: ‘Who is that?’" The film is set for release next month (Dec10).

GREY’S ANATOMY CREATORS PLANNING MUSICAL EPISODE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

GREY’S ANATOMY is to be turned into a musical for a one-off episode which will test the cast’s singing skills.
The medical drama, which stars Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, will follow in the footsteps of hit teen series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which produced a popular all-singing-all-dancing installment in 2001.
Executive producer Shonda Rhimes is adamant the musical episode will be done tastefully, and insists fans will be surprised by some of the stars’ talent.
She tells TVGuide.com, "Nobody is going to be dancing and singing down the halls; that’s not our show. Our show is known for its music. I very much wanted to do something that was musical without being a musical…
"You will be very surprised to discover that some people sing quite well. That’s sort of a little gift to the fans, to discover that people who are not necessarily known for singing have pretty great voices. Also, some people won’t be singing because it doesn’t go with the story.
"We keep saying that season six and seven are seasons to try anything and everything that we’ve always wanted to do. I’ve wanted to do a musical episode since the first day we started shooting season one. Now, we’re in that place that we have the space to try it."

DIRECTOR CARUSO DROPS OUT OF Y: THE LAST MAN PROJECT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

Director DANIEL JOHN ‘D.J.’ CARUSO has quit work on Y: THE LAST MAN following a disagreement with film studio executives.
The Disturbia moviemaker had signed up to bring the popular comic book series to the big screen in a new blockbuster, but he has now pulled out of the project after clashing with bosses at New Line Cinema.
Caruso admits he was keen to make three films to document the stories, while studio chiefs aimed to condense the series into a single movie - and he stepped down after failing to resolve the dispute.
He tells the Latino Review, "I love, love, love that project. I think the biggest problem for me was I saw it as a trilogy. I didn’t think that you could take (character) Yorick’s story and put it in to a two-hour movie and do it justice.
"It’s a tough screenplay to lick and we had some very good writers. But it was like you had to convince the studio that this movie could stand alone on its own. But at the same time there would be unresolved issues ultimately with what happens to Yorick and how it all ties together.
"It’s really tough. If someone came back to me today and said they would love for me to jump in and do this the way I wanted to do it, I would. But I just feel like it’s too much for one screenplay. I’m not involved with that now."

SNIPES ASKS FOR BAIL EXTENSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

WESLEY SNIPES is hoping to stay out of jail by asking for a bail extension as his lawyers attempt to lodge another appeal against his conviction.
The Blade star has spent two years fighting a guilty verdict on tax evasion charges, and last week (ends21Nov20) he was ordered to turn himself over to authorities to begin serving his three-year sentence after losing a previous appeal and a battle for a retrial.
Snipes is currently still a free man as his lawyer claims no date has been set for the star’s surrender, and his legal team is hoping to keep the actor out of jail for the foreseeable future by asking a judge in Florida to extend his bail while they prepare to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The request was filed on Tuesday (23Nov10), according to the Orlando Sentinel.
A statement from Snipes’ lawyer Daniel Meachum reveals the legal team is "determined to exhaust all plausible avenues in this matter".
