FRANCO SCARRED BY 127 HOURS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:13 pm

JAMES FRANCO was so battered and bruised after playing an adventurer in 127 HOURS, his doctor assumed the scars on his arms were from heavy drug use.
In the drama, the actor plays a climber who is forced to amputate his own arm with a penknife after becoming trapped under a boulder during a hike in Utah.
Franco suffered a number of injuries throughout the challenging shoot in a canyon fissure, leaving him with marks resembling drug injection scars.
He tells Britain’s Total Film, "I had a lot of scars. I guess they weren’t as bad as I thought… I guess it just proves that Danny (Boyle, director) knows what he’s doing because it didn’t scar me for life.
"I went to a doctor for insurance purposes for another movie and he saw these scars and he was like, ‘Errr…?’ He soon assessed that they were not track marks."

JAMES BOND GUN IS A HIT AT AUCTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:25 pm

A pistol held by SIR SEAN CONNERY in a poster for FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE has sold for $415,875 (£277,250) at auction, setting a world record for a JAMES BOND gun.
An anonymous bidder paid more than 10 times the estimated $22,500-$30,000 (£15,000-£20,000) which the Walther air pistol was expected to fetch at Christie’s in London on Thursday (25Nov10).
Connery only held the gun as 007 for the publicity shots for the 1963 film after a crew member forgot to bring the secret agent’s weapon of choice - a Walther PPK semi-automatic. The gun actually belonged to the photographer.
A spokesperson for the auction house says, "The Bond franchise has stood the test of time."

WATTS SHRUGS OFF PENN/LIMAN FEUD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

NAOMI WATTS has dismissed rumours SEAN PENN is boycotting the promotional tour for their new movie FAIR GAME because he fell out with director DOUG LIMAN on set - insisting she didn’t see any "spats" during the shoot.
Watts and Penn both star in the new political thriller, which is based on the memoirs of real life former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent Valerie Plame.
The actress is currently promoting the new movie without her co-star, as Penn is said to be too busy with his charity work to take part. The Oscar-winner’s absence has sparked rumours he refused to join the promotional trail because of a feud with director Liman, but Watts is adamant she wasn’t aware of any problems between the pair during filming.
She tells the Hollywood Reporter, "On set they got on absolutely fine. Sean and I had three weeks together - there were no spats on the set then. But yes, we were all very passionate about the film." And Watts is adamant she got along with Liman as well, adding, "Doug and I got on very well. You expect to go through a few wrestling matches…"

REEVES RANTS ABOUT MODERN MUSIC

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:16 pm

Motown legend MARTHA REEVES refuses to listen to any modern music because of offensive lyrics, which she blames for promoting "lawlessness" among young people.
The Dancing In The Street hitmaker, who enjoyed a string of hits with the Vandellas in the 1960s, is convinced negative content in songs causes problems among today’s youth.
She says, "As musicians we have concerns about social factors and involve ourselves in community. There’s lawlessness in society now because of the content of lyrics - they have somehow slipped past the net.
"We didn’t have to send our children out of the room when we were with Motown. Our songs have always been about love, happiness, joy and partying." And Reeves is adamant the current crop of chart-topping tracks lack soul because they rely too much on production.
She adds, "I’m not listening to any new music because it’s not made by musicians. Songs now are all technically made but back then we had a band that was used for everybody’s recording - they could play to anyone’s style so everybody’s sound was distinct. They had learned their profession and could make the music stand out."

MTV BOSSES WILL FIGHT JERSEY SHORE SUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:13 pm

Bosses at MTV have vowed to fight a potential lawsuit from a writer who alleges he came up with the idea for hit reality show JERSEY SHORE, branding his claims "utterly without merit".
Christopher Gambale has threatened to sue officials at the network, accusing them of using his outline for a project entitled Guidos: A Reality Series as the basis for their popular programme, about a group of young people living in New Jersey.
But Heather Windt, Vice President of Intellectual Property & Litigation at MTV, insists the theme has been portrayed numerous times in popular culture.
In a letter to Gambale’s lawyer, Windt states: "Jersey Shore was not the first work to focus on young Italian Americans. By way of example only, this theme has been explored in works such as Saturday Night Fever, My Cousin Vinny, Kiss Me, Guido, and Growing Up Gotti… The general idea of a show ‘exploring the lifestyle of the Brooklyn/New Jersey Guido’ is not copyrightable." MTV executives also plan to take on Gambale in court if he proceeds with a lawsuit.
Windt adds: "MTV believes that your client’s claim is utterly without merit. Should your client opt to pursue this matter, please be advised that MTV will vigorously defend the action and when dismissed will pursue all available sanctions, including attorney fees."

DINGO DEPRESSED OVER ASSAULT CHARGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:10 pm

Australian actor ERNIE DINGO has been suffering from bouts of depression since he was accused of slapping a young boy during a school visit over the summer (10) - because the assault charge has left him unable to work.
The Crocodile Dundee II star was charged with aggravated common assault after allegedly striking an 11-year-old pupil at a primary school in Carnarvon, Western Australia in July (10).
He pleaded not guilty in October (10) and is due to stand trial in February (11).
Dingo reveals he has been banned from working with children since the incident, and he’s devastated because he has always loved performing for youngsters.
He says, "I haven’t worked because (the Department of) Education deem me unfit, as a threat… I can’t do any work with children, and I have done that all my life. (I’m dealing with) a lot of negatives, mental anguishes, inserts of depression, not being able to work… I’ve worked all my life and all of a sudden I was told to take a holiday. And that hurts.
"Mainly because of the fact of the disrespect of who I am. I have worked with kids. Kids jump all over me 24/7 when I work with kids… I do it because I love kids, and I love to try and work out a positive way for them…" Dingo faces a possible jail sentence if convicted.

BREA ADMITS ‘SLASHING’ MUM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:09 pm

Actor MICHAEL L. BREA has confessed to brutally hacking his mother with a sword, insisting he was "doing the work of God".
Brea was arrested on Tuesday (23Nov10) and charged with murder after his mum Yannick was found stabbed to death at her New York City apartment.
In an interview from the prison ward at the Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan, Brea claims voices in his head ordered him to attack his mum with a sword after a "demon" took over her soul.
Recounting the gruesome scene, he tells the New York Daily News, "I didn’t kill her. I killed the demon inside her. So be it. It was the work of God." The 31 year old claims he heard his mum speaking with a different voice when she summoned him to the kitchen to help her cook chicken.
He recalls, "I looked at these chickens lying dead in the pot and a voice told me it was a sacrifice. It was black magic… She had the voice of a demon. I opened the door with the dagger at my side and the sword.
"I asked, ‘Do you believe in God?’ She said, ‘No, Michael, no’ and began screaming. I began slashing her. I didn’t want to kill her right away. I wanted to give her time to get right with God." Brea, who has had small roles in Ugly Betty and Step Up 3D, adds: "I was slashing my mom and I heard the police knocking on the door… but I knew they wouldn’t open the door and stop me because the spirits were protecting me. I just kept cutting her. No one could stop me. I was doing the work of God."
