GIBSON REDUCED LETHAL WEAPON CREW TO TEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:06 pm

MEL GIBSON was so intense during the filming of LETHAL WEAPON, he left crewmembers in tears with his portrayal of unhinged cop MARTIN RIGGS.
The actor surprised his co-stars and director Richard Donner with his emotional performance as the suicidal sergeant, and several of the crew wept during a scene where Riggs contemplated shooting himself following the death of his wife.
Donner tells Total Film magazine, "The camera was shaking because I’m crying, the operator’s crying. And I start to get worried about Mel. (He) hit (himself) with (the gun)! And this was after the take was over."

GRANT LAUNCHES WAR MUSEUM APPEAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

HUGH GRANT is backing an appeal for a $4.5 million (£3 million) refurbishment of a war museum in Scotland.
The Notting Hill star turned out at the Highlanders’ Museum in Fort George on Thursday (25Nov10) to launch the campaign, which aims to raise cash from public donations.
The actor recalled his long affiliation with the military during a speech at the launch, revealing how he was the first male member of the Grant family never to contemplate entering a regiment.
He tells The Scotsman, "We were always playing about in the fort, playing at war on the battlements with my brother and girl cousins.
"I always found it all fascinating as there were so many soldiers in my family. I’ve got it in my genes, it’s in my DNA. Weirdly, a military career never beckoned for me. I must be the first Grant to reach 17 or 18 without anyone saying ‘How about the army?’ "It feels personal. I wanted to do it for my father and grandfather. I feel a loyalty to the regiment; even though I was not a part of it myself, it feels like it’s family. I have always been fascinated by the history of the Seaforths and other regiments. It’s deep in my system and so anything I can do to raise the last bit of funds they need, then I’m delighted to help."

WILLIAMS HIRED ‘CULTURAL ADVISER’ FOR AUSSIE TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

Funnyman ROBIN WILLIAMS enlisted the help of an Australian comic to help him "translate" his stand-up show for audiences Down Under.
The Mrs. Doubtfire star headed to the country earlier this month (Nov10) for performances in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
But Williams feared jokes which went down well with American fans might have been lost on Aussie audiences - so he worked with local comic Glenn Robbins to make sure he was properly prepared.
Robbins was introduced to the Hollywood star through another American comedian, Jeff Stilson, and admits he was nervous about giving advice to such a well-known celebrity.
He says, "That was a weird conversation, telling Robin Williams what he should say on stage during his tour of Australia. (Stilson) rang me and said, ‘Can you give me a hand? I’m transposing Robin Williams’ act for Australia’. Robin rang Jeff and said ‘Here’s my act. Can you take out the American references and replace them with Australian ones?’." Robbins reveals he encouraged Williams to take a "risk" and trust his instincts when on stage in Australia.

MORIARTY THANKS DE NIRO FOR HER CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:25 pm

CATHY MORIARTY has credited ROBERT DE NIRO with helping her Hollywood career - she still employs the tips he gave her on the set of RAGING BULL 30 years ago.
Moriarty was an unknown 18 year old when Martin Scorsese cast her opposite De Niro in the boxing movie, which charts the life of ring king Jake LaMotta.
The teenager was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role, and went on to enjoy a successful film and TV career - and she’s adamant De Niro’s words of advice on set have helped her ever since.
She tells BlackBookMag.com, "I learned one thing from De Niro: He taught me to listen. Nobody says anything strictly from the script. It’s improvised. It was the best piece of advice I have ever gotten in my life. It has helped me through the past thirty years."

NON-DRIVER BOYLE BUYING NEW CAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Scottish singing sensation SUSAN BOYLE is investing a chunk of her fortune in a new car - and she’s even paying for a chauffeur to transport her around as she can’t drive.
The star shot to fame last year (09) on U.K. TV show Britain’s Got Talent and she has since earned more than $15 million (£10 million) from personal appearances and her successful debut album, I Dreamed A Dream.
Despite living on a meagre $450 (£300) weekly allowance handed to her by her management team, Boyle is planning to use some of her cash to buy a car - but she has no plans to take to the wheel herself.
She tells Britain’s The Sun. "Me on the road? Aaaargh no! I’d rather be driven. They’d be saying, ‘Get her off the road now!’ "A car is purely a necessity - I can’t drive and I’m not going on buses. When I go on buses there are always problems with people going, ‘Oh, there’s that lass (woman), she used to be on the telly’."

WAY STILL SMARTING OVER CYRUS CHART BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE rocker GERARD WAY still feels disappointed by the band’s 2006 chart battle with MILEY CYRUS - because they lost out to "a lip-syncing child".
The group’s popular concept album The Black Parade was released in September 2006, selling 240,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release.
But the band missed out on America’s coveted number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, coming in second behind Cyrus’ Hannah Montana soundtrack.
And Way admits losing out to a teenage pop star still hurts.
He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "We’ve never been number one. We got our a** kicked by Miley Cyrus last time, back when nobody knew who she was… (It was a disappointment) because I felt like we’d worked towards it and it felt like it was in the cards (sic). We expected it - like, who can beat us? A lip-syncing child, that’s who."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

Earlier this year (10), Chesney threw his cowboy hat in the ring for consideration as a performer for the big game in Arlington, Texas after fans created a Facebook page online, called Kenny Chesney for Super Bowl 2011.
He told reporters: "I would love to do half-time at the Super Bowl. That’d be fun." But it’s the Black Eyed Peas who will run the show at Super Bowl XLV on 6 February (11), National Football League (NFL) bosses announced on Friday (26Nov10).
The My Humps hitmakers will follow this year’s (10) featured act, The Who.
Prince, Sir Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band, The Rolling Stones and U2 have all previously performed at the annual event, which hit headlines in 2004 when Justin Timberlake partially exposed one of Janet Jackson’s breasts on stage during a duet.

ANDRE HOSPITALISED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

Australian singer PETER ANDRE was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Friday morning (26Nov10) after suffering "excruciating" stomach pains.
The Mysterious Girl singer was taken ill overnight and is being "monitored closely" by doctors at an undisclosed medical facility.
The star has also cancelled the opening date of his U.K. tour on Friday night in Plymouth, south-west England.
A statement from his management team, CAN Associates, reads, "Peter Andre was rushed to hospital in the early hours of this morning in excruciating pain. At present he is being monitored closely and being kept in for extensive tests and scans.
"Peter was due to play at Plymouth Pavilions tonight for the first night of his Arena Tour, however this has had to be postponed due to his current condition and will be re-scheduled for Tuesday 21st December 2010. We are hoping Peter will be able to perform at Minehead tomorrow (Saturday) as planned." His manager Claire Powell adds, "We are very worried about Peter and at present we do not know what is causing him to be in so much pain. Peter is terribly disappointed that he is unable to perform at tonight’s sold out opening night." Andre’s ex-wife Katie Price broke the news of the star’s hospitalisation on her Twitter.com page, writing, "I’m told CAN are going to release a statement saying Pete (has) been rushed to hospital with stomach pains! Hope Pete (is) ok." Earlier this month (Nov10), Andre sparked fears for his health by revealing he was battling a mystery illness and had been undergoing tests.
He said, "I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I’ve got some ongoing health problems, and I’ve been having lots of tests at the hospital. I also had an MRI scan last week, so hopefully the doctors will get to the bottom of it soon."

KUNIS CONTEMPLATED RETIREMENT AT 20

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

MILA KUNIS decided to quit acting when she was 20 - because she had earned enough money from THAT ‘70S SHOW to keep her financially "secure" for the rest of her life.
The star shot to fame playing ditsy Jackie Burkhart on the sitcom but contemplated stepping away from the spotlight in 2003 because she had sufficient funds to survive on after working as an actress and model for 11 years.
She tells Nylon magazine, "What a lot of people don’t realise is that you make more money in TV than you will in film; it’s a very steady salary. An obscene amount of money gets given to you for, like… what? So I was 20 and I looked at my bank account and realised that I was secure for the rest of my life. I was like, ‘I’m OK. I can go do other things now.’ "I wanted to rethink my life for a minute because I didn’t think acting could be a career. This is the worst industry you can put yourself in because there’s no security whatsoever… I was just like, ‘Can I really do this for the rest of my life?’" But the brunette beauty eventually came to the conclusion that acting is her true passion.
She adds, "I realised that acting is the one thing I love to do. I asked myself, ‘What else could I do that would make me happy? What else could I do where I wake up in the morning and think, I get to go to work and do something great and have fun?’ I couldn’t think of anything else."

MORIARTY WAS FRIENDS WITH REAL-LIFE LAMOTTA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

Actress CATHY MORIARTY is glad she was cast as the wife of boxer JAKE LAMOTTA in RAGING BULL - because she became lifelong friends with the real VIKKI LAMOTTA after filming wrapped.
Moriarty landed her first movie role in Martin Scorsese’s 1980 boxing epic, but the director insisted she was banned from speaking to the real-life boxer’s wife to avoid influencing her portrayal.
After the shoot ended, the actress was so desperate to find out if she had played the part correctly, she visited Vikki LaMotta in Florida - and they became best pals until LaMotta’s death five years ago (05).
Moriarty tells BlackBookMag.com, "We had sent each other letters back and forth, but (the Raging Bull producers) didn’t want us speaking because the movie was shot through Jake’s eyes and not hers. Since the movie wasn’t really about her, maybe they felt that I wasn’t ready to handle meeting her.
"If she came to the set, they made sure I wasn’t there. They definitely did not want me speaking with her or meeting her. Once the movie was over, I flew down to Florida and stayed with Vikki for a couple of days. We stayed great friends until she passed away a week or two before the twenty-fifth anniversary of Raging Bull. She did say to me, ‘I’m very proud. You did a good job. I liked me.’"

WILLIAMS SNUBBED MARILYN BIOPIC

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:16 pm

MICHELLE WILLIAMS initially turned down the chance to play MARILYN MONROE on the big screen because she doubted whether she could successfully embody the blonde bombshell.
The actress snubbed director Simon Curtis when he asked her to play the screen icon in upcoming biopic My Week With Marilyn, but after eventually accepting, she admits the role proved to be more daunting than she’d imagined.
Williams tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist, eventually… Physically and vocally, everything about her is different from me.
"I’ve kind of gone to school and had teachers to help me understand Marilyn, so I could project an essence of her.
"When I first approached the part, I thought that there were three, even four parts to Marilyn. It rearranges you, it shifts your molecules, lifts you up, spins you around, puts you back down and you’re not quite the same, for better or for worse." And the blonde beauty insists her performance has brought her closer to the Some Like It Hot star, who died in 1962.
She adds, "I feel like we live together… At a certain point, something else does take over. I don’t quite feel myself these days."

SORVINO HELPS DIABETIC DAD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:16 pm

Actor PAUL SORVINO has his Oscar-winning daughter MIRA to thank for keeping his diabetes under control - she helps to cook his meals.
The Goodfellas star was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2006, and he quickly adapted his traditional Italian diet to include low-sugar, low-carbohydrate food.
And after witnessing her father suffer a terrifying hyperglycaemic attack, Mira decided to help him manage the condition by lending a hand in the kitchen.
She says, "After witnessing an episode of extremely high blood sugar and feeling like I didn’t know what to do, I quickly realised I needed to learn as much as possible about diabetes and what I could do to support him." Her father adds, "Living with diabetes, I know how important it is to have a support system in place. As part of our Italian family heritage, we love cooking meals together and Mira joins me in preparing low-carbohydrate pasta and salads full of diabetes-friendly ingredients, such as fresh vegetables and lean meats."

LEE’S FAMILY ‘VERY PLEASED’ WITH BIOPIC

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:15 pm

BRUCE LEE’s family is "very pleased" with a new biopic about the late martial arts star, according to director RAYMOND YIP.
Bruce Lee, My Brother tells the life story of the movie legend, who died at the age of 32 in 1973.
It has been put together with the authorisation of Lee’s relatives, including his siblings Phoebe, Agnes and Robert, who all contributed their memories and personal stories to help filmmaker Yip tell the truth about Lee’s early years.
And Yip reveals the family is very happy with the final result.
He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "The Lee family supplied us with all the details and the tidbits (sic) of their family life. So we took great care to be loyal to the truth and avoid anything that felt fake, which made it rather difficult for us in terms of creating the structure of the script. But the Lee family was very pleased with the result, especially with how close it was to what actually happened." The moviemaker also claims Robert was stunned by how much actor Aarif Rahman, who plays the lead role in the biopic, looks like his late brother.
Yip adds, "(Everybody) including Lee’s brother Robert… (was) quite amazed by how much Aarif resembles Bruce. No one can say for sure whether an actor really embodies Bruce’s spirit except for his family. So it was a go from then on." The film is released this month (Nov10) to mark what would have been Lee’s 70th birthday on Sunday (28Nov10).

A SERBIAN FILM CUT FOR BRITISH RELEASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:13 pm

Bosses behind controversial new horror movie A SERBIAN FILM have been forced back to the editing suite to remove a number of gory scenes in a bid to secure a release in Britain.
The dark new thriller, directed by Srdjan Spasojevic, tells the story of a washed-up porn star who is unwittingly drafted into a snuff movie, and it has already provoked outrage across Europe.
The picture was banned from a film festival in Spain earlier this month (Nov10), while U.K. officials stopped a planned screening at London’s recent Frightfest movie event.
Executives at the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) objected to the level of sex and violence shown onscreen and demanded a number of scenes be removed.
A BBFC spokeswoman says, "A number of cuts were required to remove elements of sexual violence that tend to eroticise or endorse sexual violence." Over four minutes of footage has been cut and the film is now set for a December (10) release.
A spokesman for the film’s distribution company, Revolver Entertainment, says, "Revolver remain committed to releasing the closest possible version of the film to the director’s original cut. The company recognises that the film is an uncompromising, artistic and political statement from a unique film-making vision and remains fully supportive to (sic) the director."

RYDER BAFFLED BY OUTCRY OVER ‘GAY’ LINE IN THE DILEMMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:13 pm

WINONA RYDER was stunned by the outcry over a ‘gay’ joke in new film THE DILEMMA, insisting she would not "be part" of a movie she thought was "offensive".
Officials at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) organisation demanded the axing of a scene from the upcoming movie after a preview clip showed Vince Vaughn’s character tell a room of people, "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars… are gay." Ron Howard opted to keep the scene in the final cut of the film, and Ryder is glad the director refused to bow to the group’s pressure as she can’t understand the fuss surrounding the line.
She tells Britain’s Total Film magazine, "It’s just crazy because I’m very sensitive to that issue and if I thought something was offensive I wouldn’t want to be part of it.
"Plus all my gay friends use that word all the time so (protesters will) have to go and give them a hard time too." The line has, however, been pulled from the movie’s trailer following complaints.
